    My process has always been listening to the track and searching for the notes, note by note, pausing the song and then playing along with it over and over. This does result in me playing songs differently than the exactly correct way and I often learn multiple ways to play along in harmony. While not being as technical it has taught me how to quickly find notes and quickly find harmonies.

    • @shinzontheta
      @shinzontheta 2 місяці тому +2

      Same....I spent alot of time particularly as a teenager just trying to figure out how I could make what I was capable of doing technically fit into whatever music I was a fan of. This had a downside in regards to learning with structure but I can in most settings be musically right 95 percent of the time.

      @@shinzontheta Thanks. I was thinking I was wasting time not learning things methodically. I also just like to play things by ear. However I was afraid of playing harmonically by ear. You have given me hope.

    You are a joy to watch Sophie, and I have a great respect for players like you as I am one of the 90% of people who found out I don't have the focus or dedication it takes to learn. Like Zakk Wylde said " you either have it or you don't". Fortunately you do and I just like watching your guitar playing journey as you become better and better at it. 👍🎸😍

    Great video to show today's guitarists and other types of musicians a path to learn the instrument. What you do is pretty much how I learned guitar over the years and continue to do so today. Technology has been helpful with making it easier to learn songs as well. I too am not a big tab user and prefer learning by ear. What I have noticed since my early years is if I can hear the song inside my head, hum it, or pseudo-sing the tune, it is much easier for me to get it down on the guitar.

Diversity is so important i'm nowhere near the level I want to be but a lot better than i was 4 years ago getting serious again and still have a whole lifetime yet. 😂 I realised lately i need to change my learning style because my progress on several new songs are very slow, months 😅

    Having grown up in the age before the internet, I developed my ear to learn new music. Tabs were helpful but I really don’t use them. Nowadays I use UA-cam to learn chords or phrases quickly. I’ve had a few weeks to learn 20 songs I’ve never heard before when filling in for a gig. Only answer is to get the chord changes and just listen to the track. Ear training is probably one of the best skills you can learn.

    I think one of the really important parts of what Sophie did was changed how something was played to fit what she can physically do. Players with long and spider-like fingers make playing their work really difficult for me. At first I would just not do it because I couldn't physically do it like they do. It took experience to figure out that I had to adapt it to what I could do. Sometimes I just can't play it exact...and that's okay. I'm still aggressively mediocre but it's okay, I enjoy it.
