Q, you’re a legend. This dissection and deconstruction of the Motion Processing in the Sony A95L is simply a masterpiece. No one else is doing this, or even coming close to providing any type of real insight to this problem. I own the 55” version, and use it primarily for gaming, but I can easily tell the difference when I’m playing 4K UHD Blu-ray’s. This is why you’re easily the #1 brand in honesty…
Not sure if it’s different from the A95K but I use Motionflow Custom, Smoothness 1 and it looks fantastic. Never had any issues like the ones shown here.
Thank you for doing this! I thought I was crazy as everyone says how good the motion and up scaling is on the Sony. I didn’t agree and was really bothering me… my lg b7 oled I thought looked better. I ended up returning the Sony.
Which motion settings are you using? I originally had the Samsung S95C but exchanged it for the Sony A95l. The Samsung was wonderful with motion on 4K hdr material but I watch alot of low bit rate material (streaming tv) and none of the motion interpolation settings could fully eradicate motion problems that I could figure out. On the Sony A95l i have cinemotion set to low and motion flow settings of (film) to min and (camera) max and clearness to low. With these settings I don't notice any motion issues with low bit rate material or 4K HDR movies that i could see.
How is the motion on the new Bravia 9? I am shortlisting the Bravia 9 and the a95L for great picture and the option to use them as a center speaker but now I’m concerned about motion issues.
These are great points, I hope in future TV tests, we can add these camera pan shots to evaluate motion. Seems like demo reels are made to minimize camera movement and “hide” this issue. Great catch and I hope Sony can resolve
Subscribed, great to see someone with different perspective here on YT. Instead of following common trend and being a Yes man. Sony being TV king dogma here on YT been pretty hardcore couple last years.
Has this been fixed with. a update? I'm looking at grabbing the A95L as Samsung TVs don't suppor Dolby Vision only Atmos sound but Atmos and Vision go hand in hand. the motion looks very bad i see what you are saying, the samsung does look better but its only HDR10 but Dolby Vision . Are the Sony Mini-LEDs any better at soothing motion? X93L? or the LCD X90L? I need a new TV with Dolby Atmos + Vision but this is insane for the A95L price!
Hi quantum, i got a new CU7000 and i am using to watch anime. I am wondering if i should keep the motion smoothing set to auto or turn it off. A lot of people in the internet are saying tv motion smoothing ruins anime and give them a soap opera effect. But im not really sure about that as when i turn it off and a panning scene appears the judder is extremely irittating. What would you recommend?
If people wanna hate on you for holding Sony and it’s “Sony tax” accountable let’em. Yet the same people need to ask why Sony lost so badly in that “BLIND SHOOTOUT” in Germany.
wow its like motion max is set to off, it did nothing. there is not even a soap opera. other youtubers also complaint about other picture settings that nearly have no impact to picture "FOMO". something is just not right with these sets....
I have a Samsung s90c and I find blu rays and motion bad. In your opinion do you think lg is a better tv for motion and watching films. Also would you say the lg g4 is better than the s90c.
Thank you Q you are a absolute legend I purchased the s95c a few months ago and I’m blown away by it but when the Sony a95l got released people were praising it like it was the perfect tv and I thought I made the wrong choice for a little while but after seeing this video you’ve proven to me that I made the right choice thanks bro 👍
Good stuff thanks for breaking it down and reporting the facts, obviously those who picked the the Sony to win that shootout likes that kind of poor motion quality
This guy is waiting all year, only to attack the Sony Flagship Model at the end of it. Same procedure as every year. Doesn't matter if the TV is good or bad, it WILL be bad on QTV, because this is what his channel is build around. Pure Sony Hating, nothing else. Get a life, bro.
So showing sony issues nobody else is willing to makes you feel they are attacked? How sad. Its constructive criticism. Watch the full video. I gave them credit where warranted.
Oh my goodness...I thought I was crazy for thinking that this TV is not as insanely good as all the reviewers are making it out to be. It's a solid TV but I definitely do not think it's worth the price. Even for all there claims of "Processing" being the best in SONY...I turned on 1080P content on UA-cam and ran a few other tests...it's nothing spectacular. Maybe mild differences can be spotted when having 2 TV's next to each other. But I dont feel it's all that differnet. Bought a A95L 65" for $2750 on Greentoe, but man it's not punching the way I anticipated this TV to do. Beautiful picture but buggy menu's when watching content, LED indicator issues even when you turn them off, and sub par motion handling in streaming content has made me feel like I want something more....but ofc, this is the "Best TV of 2023" 😔
After having my Samsung (2016 LCD) finally give up on me. I was considering the A80L until I came across one of your videos showing how bad the motion is on the Sony. I understand no TV is perfect. That being said, better motion is important to some people(I'm people). I'm going with the LG C3 my first OLED. Apparently OLED is a different beast can't wait to find out!
So far, that's why use my HTPC as a Videoprocessor to correct some of the motion issues. MPV/MadVR+SVP4 Pro running RIFE AI Engine can do all kinds of magic, and drastically affect the motions of these panels (best if used in PC mode + XR Enhancements). An A80J with a HTPC as Videoprocessor (running RIFE AI Engine+120Hz BFI(Clearness on 1 or 2) makes it best TV for motion/clarity/detail so far, and I'm using my A80J (the last Sony WOLED to have 120hz BFI) till it dies.
Got this tv at release and thought it was just me with this motion. What am i gonna do now its been more than 15 days to return tv. Wonder how i play this to get a refund from sony not from store. Any recommendations on what to say..or am i too late... its a 65" anyone what my tv lol
To be honest, I knew the professionals under A95L's crowning were biased since they only push specific TVs. How come no one is promoting LG's QNEDs? How come no one wants to show how these TVs show 720p content? Its all sony sony sony, tcl, hisense.
Hey quantum, I've watched a few videos on the x90l and noticed when people compared the motion settings off vs on, and then off again, it would cause a bug that made the "off" setting look completely broken compared to when they started the test.
Thanks for the content. I’d like to know if the Sony produced artifacts with the low and medium motion settings settings. I noticed only off and high options were tested here. I’m debating purchasing one of these. Thanks.
Shills won't like it! "A95 !$ dA KiN£ 0F @Ll Tv$" This is really becoming annoying. Like G3 or even S95C being fully 1500cad lesser than that 55A95L are no brainer.
Quantum might actually make Sony a champion again being that he’s the only one who points out the truth and calls out these brands for underachieving. I wonder what those unbelievers say now after watching this 🫢🫢🫢 Hopefully someone from Sony checks out this video.
I just want to say thanks again for making this video. I am actually a little shocked at how bad this motion processing is on this Sony TV. We're so late into 2023 now, I'm going to wait for CES to see what's on the horizon for 2024 before committing to a new purchase. These straightforward no-nonsense videos with clear examples is what I value most from you. You have influenced my purchasing decisions enough with this content that I am no longer going to buy a TV from this year. I hope 2024 delivers us something more special and worth the investment.
I just can’t understand why Sony can’t even get away with sending out the TV. That’s this bad for something as important as motion and why so many people think it’s OK just to get paid off to lie about how bad it is!
Well probably you are the only UA-camr talking about this issue and thanks for do it. Everybody said that Sony motion is the Best but in my experience it is not. I have a Sony oled 80j and notice the problem in many panoramic scenes and is really annoying. My previous Samsung qled never had that kind of issue. Recently I bought the x90l led and have the same problem again. Unless you set the soap opera effect the flickering in some panoramic or fast scenes is really bad. On top of that the tv antenna reception is the worst and quality of image in low content resolution is bad also. I probably returning the tv.
Wait, does this mean no calibrated settings in the near future for this A95L.. I have both this tv and the s95c in 65".. the settings that you gave 6 months ago on the s95c that I now use ... still waiting on a magical one like the one you did for the s95b. With the wow just wow reel you did Lol for the s95b.. But as for the a95l .. hope your still attempting to work on something.. cause I just know it's gonna be great...
Thanks for the comparison. I agree that movies look worse on the Sony. The panning shots and especially people walking is quite noticeable. I disagree about the gaming, actually, though. The Sony is keeping peripheral objects intact where the Samsung starts to blur them. Watch at 0.25 in YT.
Thank you for the video. Up until now i wanted to buy a A95L. Seeing this ruined it. I do not understand how many reviews celebrate the motion of this TV and you do not. I do not anymore either. I think i have to see the effect live for myself to decide if what you are showing is the whole picture or only sometimes with (maybe) bad input or compressed input. I will definitely delay my purchase.
Do u know why the split up motion setting to 2? As they know it will have weird artifact idf they don’t split.U shouldnt put both on max, did u read description for each setting
I can't figure out what I'm supposed to be seeing in these comparisons, 0.25x or not. Guess I'm spending too much money on a tv if I can't tell the difference.
hmmmm, I have to mention...... I have the Sony A95k.... and use an Oppo 205..... I wonder if fomo, digital trends, tech therapy, etc watched this. Now that you told us where to look and i was able to slow it down to x.25 I saw the unsmoothness but honestly in the thick of watching a movie i wouldnt have noticed that much. I went to BB and watches something on S90C and fast paced action looked like garbage, even worse than what you showed on Sony today. I could see the jerkiness without x.25 speed. I don’t think any of them do a stellar job at motion.
Just use auto and it fixes everything - looks better than any combination of manual settings, better than my c1 too. Kind of stupid to make the point that 0 or maximum are the wrong choices
How come you haven't responded to the accurate comments saying the A95L has no motion issues when Cinemotion set to low and Motion Flow (film) is set to Min, Motion Flow (camera) set to Max, and Clearness to Low? I noticed no issues on these settings either. Since the A95L is a more advanced and complex product than the Samsung, it may require the user to make more adjustments for the best results. This is the norm with more advanced products. Also, the A95L will always reveal a few more flaws in an image because it is a more nuanced and more revealing display than the Samsung.
Go record the specific examples i gave next to an s95b, s90c, or s95c. I addressed this and proved that it doesn't matter what you select. I even gave timestamps of the media used to replicate it. Feel free to record and post your results for your audience.
Sony’s motion has been trash since the X900E. I still haven’t found a tv with x900E level of motion yet! Once you tell me an OLED that has that level of motion or better Q then I’ll go check it out💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Honestly, it is probably just UA-cam or I'm just a casual tv person but i can't see any difference. But then again, i wouldn't buy a sony OLED anyway, since i don't think it's noticeably better than lg or Samsung and worth that premium.
Sorry this isn’t related but could you please do a quick vid comparing the latest updated s95b vs the non updated tv if you can please 🙏🏻 guessing it’s still not worth risking connecting it to wifi ?

Day and night better
Thank you for doing this! I thought I was crazy as everyone says how good the motion and up scaling is on the Sony. I didn’t agree and was really bothering me… my lg b7 oled I thought looked better. I ended up returning the Sony.
Can you please try testing with motionflow set to 1 or 2? I think Sony struggles when that setting is set to max.

The last two updates have made motion and sound better.
Hoping everything is good with you and everyone you love. Can you please provide your settings for my lg oledb3. And where do I pay. Happy holidays…
Sorry i don't have b3 settings
Happy holidays
How is the motion on the new Bravia 9? I am shortlisting the Bravia 9 and the a95L for great picture and the option to use them as a center speaker but now I’m concerned about motion issues.
Can this motion flow processing be fixed with software update, or is motion decoding hard wired into the chip/screen? Thanks
Can sony fix this with a future software update?
Can you give us the opinion of the g3? Is it better or worse than the s95c? People have been asking for your take on the G3 in most of your videos.
Yes
These are great points, I hope in future TV tests, we can add these camera pan shots to evaluate motion. Seems like demo reels are made to minimize camera movement and “hide” this issue. Great catch and I hope Sony can resolve
Subscribed, great to see someone with different perspective here on YT.
Instead of following common trend and being a Yes man.
Sony being TV king dogma here on YT been pretty hardcore couple last years.
how’s the uniformity on the A95L..pink tint..vertical banding..color banding..near black?
I never noticed motion issues till moved on from my panasonic plasma tv..
Sorry to say this Sony used to be better. Remember the made in Japan days. Samsung thanks for finally doing oled.
Has this been fixed with. a update? Idk why anyone wouldnt use motion smoothing
Same. Especially on sony
If people wanna hate on you for holding Sony and it’s “Sony tax” accountable let’em. Yet the same people need to ask why Sony lost so badly in that “BLIND SHOOTOUT” in Germany.
They don't ask questions. They crap on people asking.
wow its like motion max is set to off, it did nothing. there is not even a soap opera. other youtubers also complaint about other picture settings that nearly have no impact to picture "FOMO". something is just not right with these sets....
Told you bro. Something isn't right here. Especially with value electronics ignoring this, handing sony annual awards.
I have a Samsung s90c and I find blu rays and motion bad. In your opinion do you think lg is a better tv for motion and watching films. Also would you say the lg g4 is better than the s90c.
Lg has better motion but awful picture quality
Use external players
I have had nothing with problems with Samsung motion. Will never buy a Samsung again
Great work. Can we see how the S95B compares to the A95L for regular TV content (e.g., UA-camTV)?
Thank you Q you are a absolute legend I purchased the s95c a few months ago and I’m blown away by it but when the Sony a95l got released people were praising it like it was the perfect tv and I thought I made the wrong choice for a little while but after seeing this video you’ve proven to me that I made the right choice thanks bro 👍

So what TV has the best motion handling in your opinion??
Even Stevie Wonder can see it 🎉
Facts
Does A80L suffer from the same issues with motion?
You've become very good at deception, I must admit. Keep going, but your tricks do not go well with the slightly more experienced viewers.
🤣the jokes write themselves when you speak.

Samsung S95B
Thanks for the content. I’d like to know if the Sony produced artifacts with the low and medium motion settings settings. I noticed only off and high options were tested here. I’m debating purchasing one of these. Thanks.
All options saw bad motion from sony
Is the newest firmware for the s95b ok to update now?
Eh..i wouldn't
Sony need to step up there game. Even TCL out Proform Sony buy for come motion processing especially 2022 and 2023 tcl tv.
Facts
Hey I'm just after some advice, would you go for a 65inch Sony A95L or a 77inch LG G3 at the same price? Loving the content btw 👍🏻
G3 due to better contrast and motion
Shills won't like it!

Hi. May I ask if the A95K have the same issue? And will a software update be able to fix this?
The A95K is a bit worse
I just want to say thanks again for making this video. I am actually a little shocked at how bad this motion processing is on this Sony TV. Oh no brother. Sony A95L are definitely coming.
S90c for me
Thanks for the comparison. I agree that movies look worse on the Sony. The panning shots and especially people walking is quite noticeable. I disagree about the gaming, actually, though. The Sony is keeping peripheral objects intact where the Samsung starts to blur them. Watch at 0.25 in YT.
Sorry but both weren't in game mode. Both were out of game mode. Sony cannot compete with game motion plus
Truly appreciate your honesty, hard work. The things you are pointing out are important for people to know. There are no perfect products.
Well said! And thank you!
Remember what i told you. Horizontal panning with anything moving as it pans is how you replicate this. Goodluck
@QUANTUM TV What TV(s) would you be considering right now if money is not an issue? :)
S95B, S95C, S90C, G3, C3, A95L, QM8.
Will you post gaming settings for s90c? I will be joining your channel today
Sorry i don't have game mode settings. I game out of game mode so i didn't remember
It is very disappointing. I love nice smooth motion, but Sony's are just so choppy. How good is the motion on the G3 and S95C?
It's good on both
Do u know why the split up motion setting to 2? As they know it will have weird artifact idf they don’t split.U shouldnt put both on max, did u read description for each setting
Explain why off looked so bad then😅
I can't figure out what I'm supposed to be seeing in these comparisons, 0.25x or not. Guess I'm spending too much money on a tv if I can't tell the difference.

i did see this tv in store and even i think the s90c looked better, this stil looked to have a good looking image even its not on top
Another great video. This was very eye opening.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is the A80L as bad as the A95L ?
Yep
I wonder if fomo, digital trends, tech therapy, etc watched this. Now that you told us where to look and i was able to slow it down to x.25 I saw the unsmoothness but honestly in the thick of watching a movie i wouldnt have noticed that much. I went to BB and watches something on S90C and fast paced action looked like garbage, even worse than what you showed on Sony today. I could see the jerkiness without x.25 speed. I don’t think any of them do a stellar job at motion.
Your store didn't have the S90C set up correctly. Its way smoother than sony. Its really bad in the thick of a movie. Especially action scenes.
Is the motion comparable to U8K?
Yeah
Just use auto and it fixes everything - looks better than any combination of manual settings, better than my c1 too. Kind of stupid to make the point that 0 or maximum are the wrong choices
Which TV has the best motion interpolation with the least artefacts?
How come you haven't responded to the accurate comments saying the A95L has no motion issues when Cinemotion set to low and Motion Flow (film) is set to Min, Motion Flow (camera) set to Max, and Clearness to Low? I noticed no issues on these settings either. Since the A95L is a more advanced and complex product than the Samsung, it may require the user to make more adjustments for the best results. Sorry its not worth the risk
YES I AGREE WITH YOU 100%.
PQ is so much better on the Samsung, look at 5:30, the light source on the right is 10x better on the Samsung.
Thanks
No problem
i am returning my s90c 65t for bad motion. i am getting my first sony ever a80l 65t i hope i made the right choice 🙏
Why dont you use the same size tv? Pixel density is different.
Both are 55in
A95K best of 2023, 2024.
X90L is the best tv this year!!!!!!
