Honestly, the fact they all got announced/came out within a year of each other tells me that this was like an initiative at Nintendo. Like back in 2020 or something someone said "no, we NEED Mario RPGs back and in full force." And thank GOD they listened. Heck, it might have even been Alphadream dying that convinced them. I still can hardly believe that TTYD was EVER remade so faithfully. I agree that some people definitely have been undermining the importance of the remake even existing. And with a totally new M&L game on the horizon, I’m almost positive that the next mainline Paper Mario is gonna be a “true” return to form for the series

The next paper Mario is going to be made for the Switch 2. It'll have gameplay & storytelling that evolves the style of TTYD with the theatrics of Origami King. It'll release in 2027, and it'll run at upscaled 1440p at 30fps.
@@Pyrple We could get that next Paper Mario game revealed to us in late 2027 for a trailer, but released that year? Seems more likely it will release in 2028 since that’ll be 4 years after the TTYD remake. And Origami King came out in 2020 which was also 4 years before the TTYD remake.

I would assume the next Paper Mario game for the switch 2 started development soon after the release of Origami king, and TTYD was a smaller side game before they unleash their new huge AAA game. But that's just me being optimistic.

It's honestly absolutely surreal that Nintendo brought back ALL THREE Mario rpg series. RPG remake, TTYD remake, and a new M&L... I still can't believe it's happened.
As much as I want all of these RPG experiences to be their own style and come out after one another, part of me wants the consolidation, the culmination of them all in a Legendary Saga. A Mario RPG that takes everything they learned from Classic RPG, Paper, M&L, and M+R. Stories that can be funny and meaningful, partners that can be swapped out in battle with Mario and Luigi as a consistent third party to both drive the narrative and aid with puzzle platforms. A skill tree equivalent to the badges that have flexibility to choose, but also to discover through world exploration. Tactical positioning in battle to allow variables to spice up encounters while still keeping the action commands. The ability to summon past partners through use of a star meter as nod to the older titles, but also, having assists from mainstay cast members like Daisy, Waluigi, etc… All of it as an all star, best of the best, Legendary Saga of Mario’s RPG past, present, and future.
I don’t think they would be able to capture that classic storybook aesthetic if they were to remake Paper Mario 64, but I’d love to be wrong but, it’s already on NSO anyway.
@@brandonwilliams6119 if they made it work with the TTYD remake, then they can certainly make it work on PM64. I’m well aware that we will have to wait until the next console generation. It also appears that the TTYD remake is teasing us of a potential remake of the first game in the near future
The thing with remaking TTYD, is that they are setting new expectations. They cannot go back to the style from post TTYD’s first release. It would tank the new confidence in the fan base. The backlash would be outrageous.
Unrelated, but I'm surprised there has yet to be a Kirby RPG. The franchise is iconic enough to draw in both new and old fans, there's plenty of pre-existing characters to make into party members and enemies, the franchise has grown a lot in the last few years and Kirby has gone on to be one of Nintendo's most popular.
The new boss fights in SMRPG and TTYD give me a lot of hope for the future of those series’. That Arte Piazza and IntSys were able to push the established battle systems so far with new and interesting takes on their mechanics speaks volumes about the potential for future games.
Honestly, in the same vein that Echoes of Wisdom will be to Link's Awakening, a Yoshi style Super Mario RPG (yes I really wanted a sequel with Yoshi) would probably sell just as well given proper marketing and content. Again, there is a lot of hype for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Paper jam went with only mario roster probably because there wasnt much room for many original characters when you have a doubled mario character roster already sadly 😔 but hey i loved paper jam and partners in time so what do i know lol btw im 40 and my first rpg was smrpg in 96
A year ago, I wouldn't have expected Mario RPGs to come back full force. And while I'm enjoying things now, I still have some doubts in the back of my mind that things will stay this way. I just hope they can be put to rest, because outside of the 2D and 3D games, the RPGs are my favorite sub-genre of Mario
I always felt that Mario and Luigi was the slept on one out of the Mario RPG serieses, so Brothership's reveal may as well have been a family reunion for me and many others that I now see rejoicing Also Finally experiencing the GOAT TTYD was fantabulous as well
I personally think SMRPG returning is a bigger news because of what we know about the Square/Nintendo relationship before although I get why it's a shock to see TTYD being remade after all the infamous Tanabe interviews said in Origami King. It is interesting although I'm not sure if ideal that they're releasing all 3 main RPG sub-series within a year as fatigue can be a thing. I guess the caveat here is that SMRPG and PM are both remakes, but for new players they do feel new so I wonder if not at least spacing them to 1 per year could be better. Anyway I am glad that the Mario RPGs got good spotlight at the Switch finally and hopefully we do go back to full form in the next console. At the very least I feel M&L has a good future now, seeing a fresh development team probably that has the foundation to keep going. It will be interesting if SMRPG does get a sequel although at least chances now are between 10%-20%, non-0 chance IMO. And if they continue on from TTYD I actually hope they remake 64 and Super first (64 hasn't been updated to the TTYD artstyle yet which IMO has been mostly the artstyle for the rest of the sub-series) then make a turn-based RPG sequel to Super.
The fact that Mario and Luigi is a new game not a remake is going to be very helpful so long as it sells well. People complaining about both remakes likely just don't get the history behind both. Mario Rpg especially was like getting Marvel vs capcom 2 for fighting game fans, that game had so many rights issues going on that I never once thought it would get remade. While Square did'nt work on the remake themselves they still had to sign off on Nintendo doing it, and the remakes selling well will mean big things FOR actual new games. And the fact that this is all happening before the new console has come out has me very excited for the Mario Rpg series going forward.

That's why it's irritating to see people nitpick it especially if you know that this is the best shot we have of getting the traditional Paper Mario format back. I never realized the creative differences that you highlighted here. Why I stopped liking Mario RPG’s. My first Mario RPG was paper Mario 64 followed by superstar Saga. And I honestly fell in love with the bean being kingdom. I realize now what drew me to those games was how willing they were to go outside the normal scope of Mario’s galaxy. In a way, even as a little kid, the reason I liked Mario was because of all the fantastic worlds. Super Mario 64 had a new painting around every corner and that was wondrous to my little brain. What world would we find next? But nowadays, it is very true that the majority of Mario games, at least RPG titles, seem to have very firm walls. We kind of know what we will get. Which is fine, but it does lack that wonder.
Yo, that reminds me. You've never streamed any of the mario or luigi games. It would be fun to see you stream one of them or Brothership when it releases.
So I just think RPG was a gift, the story is very self contained and wraps up nicely, I’m skeptical in a sequel (since maybe SE may also need to be approved, idk how the ownership of that works) I am only counting on Paper Mario & M&L (I guess maybe Mario & Rabbids could be something too but I am prepared for that being done) and I think they tested Thousand Year Door for that style and hopefully it’s more successful. M&L will probably need to sell well too for them to move forward
The best part about all of these Mario RPGs is it's fun to imagine the future, due to the popularity. In both new and old fans. Like this video and other videos say, the future of not only Mario RPGs, but Super Mario as a whole are bright. Imagine a Super Luigi RPG. And/Or a sequel to Super Mario RPG. Imagine a Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass. Or a Super Paper Mario remake. Imagine a Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time remake. Or a Mario & Luigi game with Wario & Waluigi. Or one with Donkey Kong. Or one with Peach playable. The best part about all of this is NONE of the ideas here can happen: And I would still be happy! As long as they hold the same charm and creativity as TTYD HD, SMRPG HD, Mario X Rabbids and the upcoming Brothership, than I'll be happy.
if they do a paper luigi and the marvelous compass i hope they recreate the story luigi told, not his partners, or at least a middle ground. a whole game shitting on luigi as the major prptagonist would not be fun at all

The fact that all of these games (specifically, RPG, Thousand Year Door, and Brotherhood) were made within a year of each other (and if we count Sparks of Hope, that's technically a year and a half) is nothing short of wild! Nintendo is at the top of their game with the Mario RPGs at the moment, and it would be suicidal to even CONSIDER going back to Sticker Star's style of gameplay after this.
One thing I'll say though: For as much as I would love to have Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi, Paper Mario and Mario + Rabbids all kept alive and have at least a game per generation, it does seem to be too much MARIO RPG for a single system. Even if they are different from each other, they are not radically so, so by supporting all of these at the same time, Nintendo runs the risk of either cannabilization of each other, or just commitment of their own manpower in making those titles, even if they heavily rely on outside help. Honestly, I think the realistic best case scenario here would be if Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario are kept alive, while the other two are given up, by the simple fact that Nintendo would own 100% of everything in that game, and approving and developing them would be far easier. I hope I'm wrong though!
I've played Super Mario RPG, every single Paper Mario game (although I didn't beat every Paper Mario game), and only Superstar Saga in the Mario and Luigi series. I'm so happy that all three game series are back and in such a big way. I personally favor Super Mario RPG out of them all, so I would absolutely LOVE to have a direct sequel to it. Also, I very much like the unique and varied partners of Thousand Year Door. One of my favorite game tropes is when an antagonist joins your side and they absolutely nailed that with Vivian. I would kill to see her appear in more games, but of course, that doesn't mean that I don't want to see new partners too! As for Mario and Luigi, well, I didn't get much into the series, like I stated before, but I really did enjoy Superstar Saga. With Brothership on the horizon, it's high time I jump back into the series and see what I've been missing out on all this time.
I never got to play the first two paper Mario games since I wasn’t born or way too young. But I do wish I got to play super power Mario for Wii but I was a Lego game kid. And when the 3DS Mario and Luigi games came out I never played since every one kept saying it’s not as good so I just never bothered I wish I never listened cuz I probably would’ve enjoyed them. But now I played Paper TTYD switch remake and it’s pretty good, now I’m play Mario RPG and I’m having a blast. So I’m excited for more Mario rpgs. I always loved rpgs but for whatever reason the Mario one never interested me since people online always complained. I definitely need to play paper Mario 64 and Mario and Luigi gba on NSO.
I hope for a new type of RPG in the future. Turn Based RPG with four characters party Mario,Luigi,wario,Waluigi something like a dungeon crawler or somthing like that. Also i think there is room for a Mario card game.
The only way Papwr Mario turns back into the old school style and not continue with the modern style is if the remake outsells origami king and that's very very unlikely to happen, that's just a fact
The amount of people I’m seeing claim the remake’s sales are undeniably objectively factually worse than TOK’s based on absolutely nothing & when we have literally 0 actual numbers yet is disturbing. Ignoring it’s a Switch release, the most celebrated Paper Mario release by a wide margin, TTYD’s pedigree, every reason & more reasons as a whole why the older style would go back than the opposite, sales would help but aren’t all there is to it.
I'd like to mention that while AlphaDream went under because the remakes didn't sell (though it is speculated that the issues began far back in Dream Team's time), the remakes themselves are really good. Superstar Saga's is much better than Bowser's Inside Story's, as the former modernizes the original GBA title with mechanics added as early as PiT and as late as Paper Jam and great graphics, while the former struggled to find anything worth adding as an improvement, so it's rather an alternative way to experience the game, similarly to a romhack that changed stats around. The thing that people who think the remakes don't mean anything is that it isn't JUST the remakes. It's the fact that the remakes kept their original designs and characters, something the M&L remakes were NOT allowed to do. It's the fact that they announce the remake of RPG alongside the next mainline Mario, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and said mainline title HAS new, original characters and species. It's the fact that in the spawn of a SINGLE YEAR, all 3 RPGs were brought back into the spotlight and not just with ports, but with made-from-the-ground-up projects, be it remakes or new games. The fact that Nintendo both ENDED and STARTED a direct with a Mario RPG because they were that confident and sure of the project, which is a huge contrast to Color Splash's "oh yeah this exists. Next announcement please!" reveal, and Origami King's "just drop it on twitter" reveal. And lastly, the fact that Thousand Year Door, the big no-no for Miyamoto, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo, the big scary bad title that can't ever be referenced nor brought back in any way in the modern Paper Marios (and as Miyamoto was involved, not even Paper Jam either), the fact that THAT game got remade, means a lot towards how Nintendo sees Mario, the RPGs, and the importance of having original characters, original stories, and good gameplay (unlike Sticker Star and Color Splash. Fuck those games).
Well, PDSMBE was a very different kind of game than the other Mario RPGs in that it’s just a straightforward gameplay-focused romp with no real story or narrative to it, and it was also a one-off that I wouldn’t expect to see become a big series…but nonetheless, I respect and appreciate you for shouting it out, as it is one of the most forgotten gems in Mario’s history.
might just be me, would've been more interesting if Dream Team just had some kind of Dark World mechanic with the dream world. not just a series of dungeon areas where you have to wake up some character or progress the plot. maybe take mild mechanic ideas from Minish Cap where you do smaller series of quests by talking to NPCs, or resolving situations inside the dream world. while major story beats occurs inside both overworld dungeons and within the dream world. maybe you'd affect the consciousness of the dreamworld by doing something for the overworld. or maybe there's a sleeping NPC that's causing roadblocks. Also, everyone knows that other than the Universal Theme park IP-awareness in DK, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD kinda feels like a sacrificial cow since Mario & Luigi and Echoes of Wisdom are before it. heck, DKCRHD is after Christmas which would hamper its sales. there's also a risk that Legends Z-A might have info announced or even potentially release before Pokemon Day 2025. find it kinda hard to expect people might go for DKCRHD post-christmas, when Tropical Freeze has been out for years. the game itself has already been mechanically enhanced both in gameplay mechanics and playable characters. To a lesser extent, i'd even dare say that Luigi's Mansion 2 was a questionmark even before the HD monkier was slapped on after its release date reveal during MAR10. luigi's sound bytes might have been reused to avoid reanimating assets. think audience reception might have hampered Princess Peach Showtime. i'm kind of surprised that Nintendo even gave Nintendo World Championship another poke during the Direct, despite all the features, games (there's 13) and the release date was known for months, also gave it a physical edition with feelies, guess that's marginally more than Everybody 1-2-Switch. or maybe it's an ashcan way of making use of lower capacity Switch cart chips?
Dear Reader Somebody must have said this to you before with the Super Mario RPG Remake , the Paper Mario TTYD Remake and now I will say it with M&L Brothership B-U-Y T-H-I-S G-A-M-E Pleaseeeeee...... let Nintendo know that we want our Mario RPGs back the way they were with an interesting story , fun and unique characters with cool designs , with a backstory and giving them names , worlds that make the Mario Universe so rich and alive And tell them that those are the kinds of stuff we want to see in their RPGs set in the Mario Universe
i just hope that they stick with it! lord knows i want a ttyd styled story/battle system/world/characters and a great visual style like TOK or the TTYD remake also more mario & luigi! how i've missed that series. i hope brothership is great!
I'm glad Mario RPGs are back on the right track since Paper Mario the Origami King was a spark of hope for me, after that we got Super Mario RPG Remake, Paper Mario the Thousand-Year Door remastered and now Mario and Luigi Brothership (I don't want to include Mario + Rabbids because I think that series is dead thanks to Ubisoft and how toxic the work environment is and that company is sinking faster than the titanic, even with the first game I didn't want to buy it because Ubisoft sucks) I know people want to see a Mario and Sonic platformer but I think the next step for a Mario RPG is a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog done by ATLUS because I think a Mario and Sonic RPG would make more sense than a platformer if Nintendo and SegaSammy comes to some agreement with that idea.
If we got a new Mario and Luigi/Paper Mario crossover with a cooler name than Paper Jam. I would call it Mario and Luigi: Paperverse and have some crossover with the indie games as well.

Also, the audience excuse goes for Paper Jam, too: You'd be surprised how many people want the potential of that game's premise to be fully realized without any of the bullshit that game introduced.
lets look at it this way, with the 3 great playable paper mario's, 2 mario and luigi's 1 new one coming soon, a remake of the classic that started it all, some rabbids crossovers and even some additional sports games on switch online. marios selection of RPG-likes is immaculate
I hope that after all of this, Nintendo decides to continue the SMRPG series by making SMRPG 2 and continue the OG Paper Mario series by making a new game in the same style as TTYD to go alongside the Mario & Luigi series rather than just going back to having Mario & Luigi as the only Mario RPG series (well, aside from the Rabbids games, but I personally don’t care for those games). If Mario can have multiple sports series, then he should also be allowed to have multiple RPG series as well.
we need a remaster of bowsers inside story- as a kid i had the game but i always got stuck on the FIRST LEVEL (im still not good at platforming) and i got very discouraged very quickly- now that im older id love to play it but i lost my DS and finding one online is pretty expensive (im not a snitch but im personally not a big fan of playing emulators)
I know tactics rpg are a bit different and people don't like rabbids but I wish people would stop hating on them when both games were so good. I've played paper mario, ttyd, superstar saga and I still think M+R is great for what it is. I've also played X-com 1 and 2 and Phoenix point in the past and I think that M+R puts such a great spin on the genre. I can see it in the comments and its so stupid 😒
Not to sound cynical, but i think Nintendo is just testing the waters to see which series is going to continue while the others gets the axe. One of the main reasons why quality of the RPGs declining was inside competition especially now that Nintendo merged their home console and handheld divisions with the Switch. Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi vs Mario+Rabbids is too many Mario role playing games happening at the same time and that'll lead to brand confusion to the average consumer OR them becoming less interested. I know each series is vastly different in gameplay/tone but your everyday consumer wont view it as such. They just see "Oh, another Mario game" just like how a lot of people dismiss the modern Mario Party games. Only one of these series of games is going to get the green light to continue

The gamecube version of TTYD is better because the script changes are whack and changing a single word in a lot of places is totally unnecessary and ruins the comedy

nature is healing i somehow foresaw this happening. back when origami king released, i was genuinely happy with the game despite it not being *exactly* what i wanted in paper mario and part of me hoped this sort of goodwill and momentum kept going. flash forward nearly 4 years, we not only got a remake of the fan favorite paper mario entry but we also got a remake of the rpg that started it all AND a new game for the sub-series that we thought was in purgatory due to its developer’s bankruptcy. we love to see it, dude. 🫡🩵

The next paper Mario is going to be made for the Switch 2. It'll have gameplay & storytelling that evolves the style of TTYD with the theatrics of Origami King. It'll release in 2027, and it'll run at upscaled 1440p at 30fps.
@@Pyrple We could get that next Paper Mario game revealed to us in late 2027 for a trailer, but released that year? Seems more likely it will release in 2028 since that’ll be 4 years after the TTYD remake. And Origami King came out in 2020 which was also 4 years before the TTYD remake.

I would assume the next Paper Mario game for the switch 2 started development soon after the release of Origami king, and TTYD was a smaller side game before they unleash their new huge AAA game. But that's just me being optimistic.

Can’t you believe it’s already been a year since the SMRPG Remake was announced? It still feels unreal to see it get remade, still hope we get a true SMRPG 2, I’d welcome back the developers ArtePiazza with open arms.
It's honestly absolutely surreal that Nintendo brought back ALL THREE Mario rpg series. RPG remake, TTYD remake, and a new M&L... I still can't believe it's happened.

As much as I want all of these RPG experiences to be their own style and come out after one another, part of me wants the consolidation, the culmination of them all in a Legendary Saga.
A Mario RPG that takes everything they learned from Classic RPG, Paper, M&L, and M+R. Stories that can be funny and meaningful, partners that can be swapped out in battle with Mario and Luigi as a consistent third party to both drive the narrative and aid with puzzle platforms. A skill tree equivalent to the badges that have flexibility to choose, but also to discover through world exploration. Tactical positioning in battle to allow variables to spice up encounters while still keeping the action commands. The ability to summon past partners through use of a star meter as nod to the older titles, but also, having assists from mainstay cast members like Daisy, Waluigi, etc…
All of it as an all star, best of the best, Legendary Saga of Mario’s RPG past, present, and future.

The thing with remaking TTYD, is that they are setting new expectations. They cannot go back to the style from post TTYD’s first release. It would tank the new confidence in the fan base. The backlash would be outrageous.

Unrelated, but I'm surprised there has yet to be a Kirby RPG.
The franchise is iconic enough to draw in both new and old fans, there's plenty of pre-existing characters to make into party members and enemies, the franchise has grown a lot in the last few years and Kirby has gone on to be one of Nintendo's most popular.

The new boss fights in SMRPG and TTYD give me a lot of hope for the future of those series’. That Arte Piazza and IntSys were able to push the established battle systems so far with new and interesting takes on their mechanics speaks volumes about the potential for future games.
Honestly, in the same vein that Echoes of Wisdom will be to Link's Awakening, a Yoshi style Super Mario RPG (yes I really wanted a sequel with Yoshi) would probably sell just as well given proper marketing and content. Again, there is a lot of hype for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Paper jam went with only mario roster probably because there wasnt much room for many original characters when you have a doubled mario character roster already sadly 😔 but hey i loved paper jam and partners in time so what do i know lol btw im 40 and my first rpg was smrpg in 96
A year ago, I wouldn't have expected Mario RPGs to come back full force. And while I'm enjoying things now, I still have some doubts in the back of my mind that things will stay this way. I just hope they can be put to rest, because outside of the 2D and 3D games, the RPGs are my favorite sub-genre of Mario
I always felt that Mario and Luigi was the slept on one out of the Mario RPG serieses, so Brothership's reveal may as well have been a family reunion for me and many others that I now see rejoicing

I personally think SMRPG returning is a bigger news because of what we know about the Square/Nintendo relationship before although I get why it's a shock to see TTYD being remade after all the infamous Tanabe interviews said in Origami King.
It is interesting although I'm not sure if ideal that they're releasing all 3 main RPG sub-series within a year as fatigue can be a thing. I guess the caveat here is that SMRPG and PM are both remakes, but for new players they do feel new so I wonder if not at least spacing them to 1 per year could be better.
Anyway I am glad that the Mario RPGs got good spotlight at the Switch finally and hopefully we do go back to full form in the next console. At the very least I feel M&L has a good future now, seeing a fresh development team probably that has the foundation to keep going. It will be interesting if SMRPG does get a sequel although at least chances now are between 10%-20%, non-0 chance IMO. And if they continue on from TTYD I actually hope they remake 64 and Super first (64 hasn't been updated to the TTYD artstyle yet which IMO has been mostly the artstyle for the rest of the sub-series) then make a turn-based RPG sequel to Super.
The fact that Mario and Luigi is a new game not a remake is going to be very helpful so long as it sells well. People complaining about both remakes likely just don't get the history behind both. Mario Rpg especially was like getting Marvel vs capcom 2 for fighting game fans, that game had so many rights issues going on that I never once thought it would get remade. While Square did'nt work on the remake themselves they still had to sign off on Nintendo doing it, and the remakes selling well will mean big things FOR actual new games. And the fact that this is all happening before the new console has come out has me very excited for the Mario Rpg series going forward.

I never realized the creative differences that you highlighted here. Why I stopped liking Mario RPG’s. My first Mario RPG was paper Mario 64 followed by superstar Saga. And I honestly fell in love with the bean being kingdom. I realize now what drew me to those games was how willing they were to go outside the normal scope of Mario’s galaxy. In a way, even as a little kid, the reason I liked Mario was because of all the fantastic worlds. Super Mario 64 had a new painting around every corner and that was wondrous to my little brain. What world would we find next?
But nowadays, it is very true that the majority of Mario games, at least RPG titles, seem to have very firm walls. We kind of know what we will get. Which is fine, but it does lack that wonder.

So I just think RPG was a gift, the story is very self contained and wraps up nicely, I’m skeptical in a sequel (since maybe SE may also need to be approved, idk how the ownership of that works)
I am only counting on Paper Mario & M&L (I guess maybe Mario & Rabbids could be something too but I am prepared for that being done) and I think they tested Thousand Year Door for that style and hopefully it’s more successful. M&L will probably need to sell well too for them to move forward
The best part about all of these Mario RPGs is it's fun to imagine the future, due to the popularity. In both new and old fans.
Like this video and other videos say, the future of not only Mario RPGs, but Super Mario as a whole are bright.

The fact that all of these games (specifically, RPG, Thousand Year Door, and Brotherhood) were made within a year of each other (and if we count Sparks of Hope, that's technically a year and a half) is nothing short of wild! Nintendo is at the top of their game with the Mario RPGs at the moment, and it would be suicidal to even CONSIDER going back to Sticker Star's style of gameplay after this.
Doubtful most of these were made within a year; Brothership especially probably started development not long after Alphadream shut down.
One thing I'll say though:
For as much as I would love to have Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi, Paper Mario and Mario + Rabbids all kept alive and have at least a game per generation, it does seem to be too much MARIO RPG for a single system.
Even if they are different from each other, they are not radically so, so by supporting all of these at the same time, Nintendo runs the risk of either cannabilization of each other, or just commitment of their own manpower in making those titles, even if they heavily rely on outside help.
Honestly, I think the realistic best case scenario here would be if Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario are kept alive, while the other two are given up, by the simple fact that Nintendo would own 100% of everything in that game, and approving and developing them would be far easier.
I hope I'm wrong though!

I've played Super Mario RPG, every single Paper Mario game (although I didn't beat every Paper Mario game), and only Superstar Saga in the Mario and Luigi series.
I'm so happy that all three game series are back and in such a big way. I personally favor Super Mario RPG out of them all, so I would absolutely LOVE to have a direct sequel to it.
Also, I very much like the unique and varied partners of Thousand Year Door. One of my favorite game tropes is when an antagonist joins your side and they absolutely nailed that with Vivian. I would kill to see her appear in more games, but of course, that doesn't mean that I don't want to see new partners too!
As for Mario and Luigi, well, I didn't get much into the series, like I stated before, but I really did enjoy Superstar Saga. With Brothership on the horizon, it's high time I jump back into the series and see what I've been missing out on all this time.
I never got to play the first two paper Mario games since I wasn’t born or way too young. But I do wish I got to play super power Mario for Wii but I was a Lego game kid. And when the 3DS Mario and Luigi games came out I never played since every one kept saying it’s not as good so I just never bothered I wish I never listened cuz I probably would’ve enjoyed them. But now I played Paper TTYD switch remake and it’s pretty good, now I’m play Mario RPG and I’m having a blast. So I’m excited for more Mario rpgs. I always loved rpgs but for whatever reason the Mario one never interested me since people online always complained. I definitely need to play paper Mario 64 and Mario and Luigi gba on NSO.

I hope for a new type of RPG in the future. Turn Based RPG with four characters party Mario,Luigi,wario,Waluigi something like a dungeon crawler or somthing like that.

The only way Papwr Mario turns back into the old school style and not continue with the modern style is if the remake outsells origami king and that's very very unlikely to happen, that's just a fact
The amount of people I’m seeing claim the remake’s sales are undeniably objectively factually worse than TOK’s based on absolutely nothing & when we have literally 0 actual numbers yet is disturbing. Ignoring it’s a Switch release, the most celebrated Paper Mario release by a wide margin, TTYD’s pedigree, every reason & more reasons as a whole why the older style would go back than the opposite, sales would help but aren’t all there is to it.
After watching a lot of videos of this nature i do wonder what motivated nintendo to go back into the rpg games of old.

I'd like to mention that while AlphaDream went under because the remakes didn't sell (though it is speculated that the issues began far back in Dream Team's time), the remakes themselves are really good. Superstar Saga's is much better than Bowser's Inside Story's, as the former modernizes the original GBA title with mechanics added as early as PiT and as late as Paper Jam and great graphics, while the former struggled to find anything worth adding as an improvement, so it's rather an alternative way to experience the game, similarly to a romhack that changed stats around.
The thing that people who think the remakes don't mean anything is that it isn't JUST the remakes. It's the fact that the remakes kept their original designs and characters, something the M&L remakes were NOT allowed to do. It's the fact that they announce the remake of RPG alongside the next mainline Mario, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and said mainline title HAS new, original characters and species. It's the fact that in the spawn of a SINGLE YEAR, all 3 RPGs were brought back into the spotlight and not just with ports, but with made-from-the-ground-up projects, be it remakes or new games. The fact that Nintendo both ENDED and STARTED a direct with a Mario RPG because they were that confident and sure of the project, which is a huge contrast to Color Splash's "oh yeah this exists. Next announcement please!" reveal, and Origami King's "just drop it on twitter" reveal.
And lastly, the fact that Thousand Year Door, the big no-no for Miyamoto, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo, the big scary bad title that can't ever be referenced nor brought back in any way in the modern Paper Marios (and as Miyamoto was involved, not even Paper Jam either), the fact that THAT game got remade, means a lot towards how Nintendo sees Mario, the RPGs, and the importance of having original characters, original stories, and good gameplay (unlike Sticker Star and Color Splash. Fuck those games).

Well, PDSMBE was a very different kind of game than the other Mario RPGs in that it’s just a straightforward gameplay-focused romp with no real story or narrative to it, and it was also a one-off that I wouldn’t expect to see become a big series…but nonetheless, I respect and appreciate you for shouting it out, as it is one of the most forgotten gems in Mario’s history.
might just be me, would've been more interesting if Dream Team just had some kind of Dark World mechanic with the dream world. not just a series of dungeon areas where you have to wake up some character or progress the plot. maybe take mild mechanic ideas from Minish Cap where you do smaller series of quests by talking to NPCs, or resolving situations inside the dream world. while major story beats occurs inside both overworld dungeons and within the dream world. maybe you'd affect the consciousness of the dreamworld by doing something for the overworld. or maybe there's a sleeping NPC that's causing roadblocks.
Also, everyone knows that other than the Universal Theme park IP-awareness in DK, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD kinda feels like a sacrificial cow since Mario & Luigi and Echoes of Wisdom are before it. heck, DKCRHD is after Christmas which would hamper its sales. there's also a risk that Legends Z-A might have info announced or even potentially release before Pokemon Day 2025. find it kinda hard to expect people might go for DKCRHD post-christmas, when Tropical Freeze has been out for years. the game itself has already been mechanically enhanced both in gameplay mechanics and playable characters.
To a lesser extent, i'd even dare say that Luigi's Mansion 2 was a questionmark even before the HD monkier was slapped on after its release date reveal during MAR10. luigi's sound bytes might have been reused to avoid reanimating assets. think audience reception might have hampered Princess Peach Showtime. i'm kind of surprised that Nintendo even gave Nintendo World Championship another poke during the Direct, despite all the features, games (there's 13) and the release date was known for months, also gave it a physical edition with feelies, guess that's marginally more than Everybody 1-2-Switch. or maybe it's an ashcan way of making use of lower capacity Switch cart chips?

I'm glad Mario RPGs are back on the right track since Paper Mario the Origami King was a spark of hope for me, after that we got Super Mario RPG Remake, Paper Mario the Thousand-Year Door remastered and now Mario and Luigi Brothership (I don't want to include Mario + Rabbids because I think that series is dead thanks to Ubisoft and how toxic the work environment is and that company is sinking faster than the titanic, even with the first game I didn't want to buy it because Ubisoft sucks)
I know people want to see a Mario and Sonic platformer but I think the next step for a Mario RPG is a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog done by ATLUS because I think a Mario and Sonic RPG would make more sense than a platformer if Nintendo and SegaSammy comes to some agreement with that idea.
If we got a new Mario and Luigi/Paper Mario crossover with a cooler name than Paper Jam. I would call it Mario and Luigi: Paperverse and have some crossover with the indie games as well.

I hope that after all of this, Nintendo decides to continue the SMRPG series by making SMRPG 2 and continue the OG Paper Mario series by making a new game in the same style as TTYD to go alongside the Mario & Luigi series rather than just going back to having Mario & Luigi as the only Mario RPG series (well, aside from the Rabbids games, but I personally don’t care for those games). If Mario can have multiple sports series, then he should also be allowed to have multiple RPG series as well.
we need a remaster of bowsers inside story- as a kid i had the game but i always got stuck on the FIRST LEVEL (im still not good at platforming) and i got very discouraged very quickly- now that im older id love to play it but i lost my DS and finding one online is pretty expensive (im not a snitch but im personally not a big fan of playing emulators)

I know tactics rpg are a bit different and people don't like rabbids but I wish people would stop hating on them when both games were so good.
I've played paper mario, ttyd, superstar saga and I still think M+R is great for what it is. I've also played X-com 1 and 2 and Phoenix point in the past and I think that M+R puts such a great spin on the genre.

Not to sound cynical, but i think Nintendo is just testing the waters to see which series is going to continue while the others gets the axe.
One of the main reasons why quality of the RPGs declining was inside competition especially now that Nintendo merged their home console and handheld divisions with the Switch.
Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi vs Mario+Rabbids is too many Mario role playing games happening at the same time and that'll lead to brand confusion to the average consumer OR them becoming less interested.
I know each series is vastly different in gameplay/tone but your everyday consumer wont view it as such.
They just see "Oh, another Mario game" just like how a lot of people dismiss the modern Mario Party games.
Only one of these series of games is going to get the green light to continue

i somehow foresaw this happening. back when origami king released, i was genuinely happy with the game despite it not being *exactly* what i wanted in paper mario and part of me hoped this sort of goodwill and momentum kept going. flash forward nearly 4 years, we not only got a remake of the fan favorite paper mario entry but we also got a remake of the rpg that started it all AND a new game for the sub-series that we thought was in purgatory due to its developer’s bankruptcy. we love to see it, dude. 🫡🩵
