AC Odyssey's map is such an accurate representation of what Greece would have looked like back then that there is a UK university that uses exploration mode as part of their ancient history course.
Totally agree 👍. Student of Ancient Greece myself, RPG gamer of 21 years experience as an adult, AC Odyssey & Ubisoft’s accuracy in the history they researched is awesome, AC Odyssey is my Go To Game whenever I desire to experience the rich lushness of the Greek Odyssey Island culture & people.
Yeah totally agree here. It’s probably one of the few games that I actually enjoyed exploring in the past few years despite all the hate that game received
Skyrim is biggest game I've ever played not only in terms of open world but also the amount contents, quests all , everything like aspects of a open world game, it delivered far more than enough.
Skyrim is another one of those games with more than a decade longevity, with both local multiple worlds, as well as expanded user-created worlds in a library of nearly 60,000 mods.
Another elder scrolls game, Daggerfall came out in 1996 is not a new game but the map is an INSANE 161,000km² which is bigger than the COUNTRY of Bangladesh
The planets remain the same when you return to them and generate when it’s your first time going to that planet me and my brother played long enough to see how to planets that you’ve visited already remain the same. Many other map comparisons include no mans sky so I see why not have it in this video or part 2.
Damn bro, I didn't even know that final fantasy nowadays isn't turn based combat anymore. Definitely have to look into that game, looks good and without turn based combat, it might be something for me 😍
Bro literally you're outstanding above all the youtubers who make videos like this.... Because you don't mess around with time.... I will agree, Elden Ring definately has its difficult moments. Especially the final 3rd of the game. However, it also gave me that skyrim feel. Just exploring the world, wondering what I will find. Skyrim, (Oblivian) Tears of the Kingdom, and Elden Ring just have that sense of wonder to them. (Also Elden Ring has a couple mechanics to the game that make it slightly more forgiving than previous Fromsoft games) Anyway, Elden Ring is a game in which its best qualities, it's difficulty and exploration, (You can literally miss a lot of things in the game) are also the reason people may not enjoy the game.
well I too am not a fan of very hard games and want something more like to enjoy an open world with a fair combat and exploration but I gave elden ring a chance and played it with mods so it would be easier and man it was worth every damn minute, now i got over 300 hours in and I'm patiently waiting for the DLC. You should give it a chance with just a difficulty mod
Another worth a mention would have been The Hunter: Call of the Wild The base game "only" includes 50 sq miles, but add on the DLC reserves and you have over 300 square miles in which to hunt more than 100 species of animals and birds. And you nearly always want to be on foot, because the ATVs scare off the prey, so crossing a map takes a while.
Keep up the good content new sub here! Ignore the negative comments, there will always those types of people lol Constructive criticism is fine and helps you add new content and fine-tune some things. As for other games not mentioned that other commenters mentioned, I'm sure that has given you some new content to dwell on for future vids.
All games you mentioned are great some are masterpiece. But I am very sad you haven't included RDR 2 , the attention to detail and quality of RDR 2 is out of the world.
This! Always amazes me that ED rarely gets a mention in lists like this - 65,000 light years from one side to the other - billions of planets to explore (admittedly not much to find beyond interesting rock formations!) - you can't get much bigger than a 1:1 scale replica of our galaxy!
Probably because while its huge, it's 100% empty and void of anything, and is barely a game. Anyone can make a procedural generated system, then let it run until its the size of the galaxy. That's not impressive anymore. Actually having content is important. This is why the "game" that literally generates entire galaxies, and thousands of them for you to explore, is never listed... because there's nothing there, and its barren and empty.
Great recap of games. I may need to check a few out. I know it is 'in development', but Star Citizen dwarfs all of these for shear vastness of FULLY explorable space. Yes, some undeveloped cities are off limits, but pretty much everywhere else is accessible. It is also 'mostly' realistic. If you have not seen it recently or ever, you need to.
I'd personally argue that Elite Dangerous should've been on that list, I'd once gotten so lost in game I had to physically make a new account cause I fucked up so much of my progress trying to make it way back to Sol System after losing my path on the outer rim of the Milky Way
What I love about soulsgame in the general is the joy of getting lost and explore the surprises by yourself. Was late playing ds 1 so although most bosses are mid compared to today's standard, exploration is still so fun. Any other game like this you guys can reccomend? Something that has no objectives in map and very little cutscenes where you just play your own story.
Wildlands has one of the best maps.. the biomes are incredibly well designed.. one playthrough and you will easily recognize the area youre in just by looking at a screenshot.. biomes are well executed and are perfectly joined
Elite Dangerous is the biggest. Got the whole known Universe in it to scale. Awesome video though, didnt realise GR Breakpoint was right up there with the largest.
I know, right? It might not have the content, but for fully explorable sq miles of ground, it is pretty HUGE. If 4.0 releases this year, that will more than double with Pyro. In the next few years, who knows!?!? They have some...hurdles...to overcome. 🙂
How is Forza Horizon 5 here, but The Crew isn't? The Crew had a map that spanned the entire USA, with major cities like NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, Detroit, San Francisco, St Louis, Seattle, Washington, Dallas, New Orleans, all with their landmarks....it also had smaller places, and basically biggest road network I've ever seen in a game. And you can also explore cross country. I played The Crew for years and still haven't explored every bit of road. I played Forza for a few hours and knew the map pretty well.
I love the first Crew and I don't understand why Forza is on their but not The Crew isn't but The Crew is also a compressed version of the United States
Sure, do not forget about Eve Online and Star Citizen, also games like Tower of Fantasy, or Black Desert Online, maybe The Crew 2 and many more have very big maps to go consider..
This is what you needa check out. Guy breaks down all the maps by size. Some of the maps you thought were huge aren't as big as you think compared to others.
Steep is also a pretty big place. The Alps map alone is huge, if you combined the three maps it would probably be bigger than some of the games mentioned here.
Only game I was truly lost in was Minecraft. Literally lost my home and had to start a new home far far away. I eventually made it back and ended up making a fast travel through the nether because I didn’t want to leave my new tools behind
The map of Ghost Recon Wildlands is absolutely fabulous. This was Ubi at its peak. They have created this massive compressed representation of Bolivia without a loading screen in sight. Their research team took tons of video and photos and its paid off. It looks and feels like the real Bolivia. You just need to watch a YT vid and then play the game and you'll see this. You can fly at height speed at treetop height in a helicopter from one end to the other and no load screens. The draw distances are awesome. The immersion is total. Truly one of gamings best ever maps. I love open world games the bigger the better. Heres to more gigantic maps!! Ubi has its issues but they are one of the masters at creating awesome looking open worlds.
Many open world games are just empty. Ac odyssey is probably biggest "rpg" map to play with a lot of content to do, like a lot (played over year and still i can play forever). And i played tom Clancy Breakpoint - probably biggest open world 3rd person shooting game with such a huge map, lots of content to do, and lots of outpost to conquer. Those 2 may be my favorite. I hate when map is just empty af or they give u few different monsters to kill and that's it.
It's a crime to not talk about The Elder Scrolls Online when it comes to open world. And No Man's Sky as I heard from my friends and every gaming magazine put it among the tops. :D
Elden Ring is absolutely N-O-T a good game for exploration. It forces you to constantly melee combat enemies and uses unclimbable mountains or sheer cliffs to force you through narrow funnels, filled with enemies.
Star Wars: Galaxies was like that, especially Space itself. Once you were out there in the Dark, if you didnt have the Map and HUD, you could very easily get lost out there. Moons, asteroids and asteroid belts, Space Stations, There was so much out there, and also so much just blank nothingness too. It took a good 30 minutes realtime to find the edge and get turned around and go the far opposite side of the map and get turned around again. It may not be as big as modern games, but just that expanse of nothingness makes it very easy to get lost. Not to mention out there was PvP gankers and also PvE ships just waiting for you to fly by to target and blow your ship into dust. Repairs could be pretty hefty if you have a bad night of getting ganked.
What I love about these games is that while they are massive in size and diverse with the different biomes, you don't have diversity in characters, they are pretty much all the same race so they don't offend certain people because they successfully eradicated or made to a major minimum most unpopular races.
