Honestly, Wukong and System Shock remake should be number 1 and 2 IMO. The other games were either indie games that LOOKED like an indy game, or made by a massive studio who has done big things before. While FF7 remake seemed unlikely...it's Square Enix, they have done this before. But Wukong looked way too good to be true, the graphics, storyline, artwork, combat, all looked too good to be done by a unknown Chinese developer. Same with SS, while it was done by a decent studio, they haven't made something like that before and both games turned out amazing.
People at Game Science were originally working with Tencent. They were the core dev for a Journey to the West related title. Tencent pulled the money on them but people were really in love with that game. So these guys came out and made their own stuff.

Black Myth: Wukong GOTY by far. And i dont even play these type of games. Was pretty fun watching a Swedish streamer (Miss Mikkaa) getting flooded by Chinese and Asian viewers the first days thanks to someone uploading her Wukong videos on bilibili and added fansubs..
It's the perfect game for people who complain that real life keeps them away from gaming. Only have half an hour a day? That's just about how much a run takes, and if you really have to quit and walk away before finishing it's not like you're losing progress and have to do it all again since the game is all about repeated runs. Nordic Ashes is another game I recommend for the same reasons.
@@ThomasVvV A quick internet search will prove him right. Just look for the before and after. Granted that they weren't altered in a full school marm/nun habit/hijab kind of way. Much more subtle. But, the point that an M-rated game had these changes made was the sticking point.
@@ThomasVvV It's not a lie. Day 1 patch censored some outfits and even before the day 1 patch the game came pre-emptively censored, since you can see item icons/drop pop-ups that look very different from what you actually get. The fact the censorship isn't "big" doesn't change squat. The game was advertised as having ZERO censorship, but it was censored at least two times before anybody even got a chance to play it.
Baldur's Gate 3 should be on this list TBH. A lot of people seem to forget how buggy & unpolished the demo/beta in 2022 was. The dice were would roll under 10 about 80% of rolls, even with weighted dice on, tone of dialogue & extures were missing. Maps, models, cutscenes unfinished for a sample form an early part of the game. Everybody I saw play it said "THIS is supposed to be done by Q3 2023? It's gonna be a trainwreck!" I was so surprised when people were actually enjoying the final game!
Larian was hardly unknown before the release of bg3. Maybe it was true for ds:o but most of us after playing ds we had plenty of faith in larian to deliver a good product.
Kingdoms of Amular still deserves spiritual successor at least. R.A. Salvatore is an amazing writer and world builder in his own right. Would love to see him utilized in gaming more.
Hi Falcon & Gameranx. Great video. Can you do one that lists successful games made by micro-developer teams, like 1 person. Space Bourne, Braid, Minecraft (originally), Stardew, Undertale. Those people are legends.
I was overjoyed when I first heard about a game about the monkey king. But just like everyone, I too, thought it was too good to be true. so I took the news with a bit of salt. Never have I ever been so happy to be proven wrong. Black Myth: Wukong has now become on of my most favourite games. The way it continues wukong's story was absolutely amazing. Hats off to the developers. Real Chads right there.
Fact WUkong is it's own legendary game out of nowhere was pretty insane, the thing sold like 10 million on the 1st day or something, and it deserved to.o.
Sold 10 mil in three days, over 18 mil in two weeks, consistently had over 1 mil concurrent players at peak daily since it launched for the past 20 days, well deserved but still insanely exceeded all expectation I would say, considering it's not some big old well-known titles like GTA, RDR and Witcher.
@@cheungchingtong sorry but.. the story of sun wukong is known by FAR more people then the story of GTA, RDR or The Witcher xD even if you take the fan bases from ALL beloved games all over the world... you probably still end up with more people who know sun wukong then you have on the other side xD

I knew System Shock Redux was going to get finished and be at least pretty good because Nightdive never stopped communicating with backers. The real KS scams (and I've fallen for a couple) are the ones that send out updates less and less frequently and eventually stop communicating altogether. In this case, they always kept us in the loop, so I never lost faith.
China and Japan gonna take over gaming back. But it all depends on the Japanese whether they will succumb to literal mad men/women (wokist) pressure or stood by their own values. Otherwise….. bye2 gaming industry 😢
1 thing I've always heard about China: They underpromise and overdeliver And I've always found it to be true. They get everything done earlier than promised and under budget. Workaholics, the lot of them.
@@Elwaves2925 I heard there was one pizza, but the guy was walking by when he filmed the video. So, it was only because they caught him immediately after the words left his lips.
The difference of Days Gone and Black Myth Wulong is that the latter’s first trailer was full of animation while the first’s trailer had a limited amount; it just contained beautiful static assets, something which is a given when using modern engines like Unreal Engine 5. Animations are maybe the most expensive part of video game development.
As soon as I saw the title, I knew Omori was gonna be in here. Though I must add, Omori was first conceptualized in 2011, and the kickstarter started in 2014, both before Undertale released.
What I really appreciate about Gameranx is they don’t swear in every sentence and are really mature in all there videos thanks Gameranx for these wonderful years and beyond.

Black myth wukong is GOTY no arguments, it not only deliverd but delivered hard. The bosses, the cinematic and anime style of telling stories, skill system and tree, graphics and last but not least badass mc( kinda i mean we are basically wukong) top tier. MASTERPIECE
It would be the game of the year if it was a popularity contest. Since it’s not it’s going to Rebirth or Astro Bot which have much higher critical acclaim. Probably Astro Bot, it has 40+ 10/10s from critics, perfect score. Wukong on the other hand only has 5 10/10s.

Great list! I was a kickstarter backer for Eiyuden Chronicle. Hundred Heroes and I have to say: while it has some rough edges and things that could and should be better, it is pretty much what I hoped for overall and I am so happy I supported the game from the very beginning.
I've been enjoying the game myself (I never played its ancestral games), but there's almost too much to do in the game. In the kinda guy who loves to play a game blind on the first run through, but this game is just so full of things to do that I'm honestly thinking of looking up guides for some of the side stuff, like the Beigoma (and I've also heard rumors of a racing mini game?). I had to put it down for the past two months just to decompress, lmao
@@SuperiorPosterior Absolutely fair! I honestly believe the Beigoma game is not handled very well. For one it is introduced very early but can only really be tackled later on unless you are dedicated to it and it is a strange mix of button mashing and luck as well. Plus it is one side activitiy you to progress pretty far if you want the best ending. Most people disliked it, I think, I personally think it was simply too much but a funny distraction overall. In general, I think the mini games are fun, unless you aim to get the achievement/trophy because then it becomes a time consuming task. Like, the racing game is fun. You breed egg monsters for races and they have stats and obstacles they are better and worse at, so you have to choose the right monster, which has a maximum amount of races. That is where breeding comes into play. If you do it for fun, it is actually pretty decent, but if you aim to finish it, it takes time. I think I had a bit over 300 races in the end becasue the last few races need to have monsters bred in a specific way. or the card game. Kinda simple, but very fun! but winning against every single character in your party is too much. By the way, if you liked the game itself, the story and characters, I highly recommend takinmg a look at Suikoden 2. It is my favorite game ever. Nowadays it is not that expensive anymore thanks to a rerelease and in about half a year it will finally get a remaster, which might be worth waiting for, especially since it will be 1 and 2 in a package.
Buying unfinished products is becoming a common trend, then hiding behind “Updating “ is becoming increasingly difficult for me to understand. So wait, I’m not only buying the game, but also paying for the updates as well which will come after you have collected everyone’s money , so with that logic, our names should be put on the production credits. The game isn’t complete and we just helped to complete it.

Thing is there was no real reason for people to think games like Black Myth, Palworld and cup head etc were scams except for peoples preconceptions or personal agenda.
How does everyone keep up with games? Aside from my decades long backlog, I’m backlogged in the past few weeks alone with Black Myth, Visions of Mana, and now Astro Butt.
Stop buying them. There is no other way. You know when you move your hand and you're just about to click "buy"? Yeah don't do that part. Watching gaming videos makes you want to buy and play more too. I had to get that under control.
Trick is to buy one at a time play it to completion and then pick the next one you feel you need to play. Give up the fear of missing out if the game isn't good enough to still be on the market when you finally get around to it then it most likely wasn't that good at this point.
I stopped buying games after I bought persona 345 and the yakuza collection that'll probably keep my busy for a fat minute despite me wanting to play wukong since it got announced
@@Jjonnnnnn Last one I bought was palworld but that's because PS+ added a bunch of classic ps2 games I wanted to replay such as all three time splitters games.
Supposedly the lawsuit is over the mechanic of throwing an object at a creature in order to capture it, a patent which they applied for after Palworld came out. It has nothing to do with character assets.
I dropped playing Vampire Survivors because it's too uncomfortable. I got so used to watching ads and scams while playing that when I finally downloaded Vampire Survivors I realized how much time I really spend on games and decided to quit.

People got to stop calling black myth a boss rush, it's not. You're not required to fight half the bosses and can go exploring. The whole 38 Studios thing is such a shame. I was lucky enough to be at the midnight release for KoA. The whole dev team was there, and they were all so stoked to see their game released, and they all seemed really passionate about the project. Imagine taking a game' "remaking it" and splitting into three full triple-a-priced games. Talk about milking your fan base... and people don't seem to care >
BMW and SM2 did something alright, but something completley different. Black Myth dev were "right people at wrong place and wrong time", they worked for Tencent, but Tencent been Tencent, killed their project and pulled the fund, so they left and found GS.
1 thing I'll say: I don't care anymore if a team is made out of "industry veterans", whether they've worked together before. I don't care what games they've worked on. It's meaningless. They could be talented as fuck, but without someone with an actual vision and someone managing the team, let alone the company ... that just means nothing.
I've had that belief for years I start to roll my eyes when I hear "so and so is starting a new company and is compromised of vet devs of x games" like that's cool and all but that doesn't mean much if you still come out of the gate broken
@@antoniojosetorrente559To be fair, they were forced to rush development due to publisher pressure. I think there was a great game there that simply didn’t have the time or money to properly iterate the design into something less awkward and unfun.

Especially the part where Stellar Blade was marketed as "zero censorship" and the game ended up getting censored at least once before it was even released and then once more with the Day 1 patch.
Thanks to Asian devs bringing back my favorite genre (single player action adventure). There’s Stellar Blade, Black Myth, and Phantom Blade Zero is also looking dope.
I'm always SO happy when I see Amalur mentioned in a positive way. I found it randomly by looking for "Games like Fable and Skyrim" and that's literally feels. Now I can only dream of a sequel and that it's just as good or even better.

To be fair while the Final Fantasy VII game is real, IT IS NOT a remake of the game but like an alternative timeline thing. It is like if you are playing Chrono Trigger and a third of the game in it turns into Chrono Cross.

Now where the heck is SILKSONG?!?
Dude black myth wukong is so good, I was upset when I did everything because i didn't want it to end
Black Myth and Space Marine 2 felt too good to be true, and they actually turned out outstanding... And like always, Love you Falcon and Gameranx..
They don't love you that's forsure. They love your views and that's where it stops.
@ramrodbldm9876 Oh wow do you work with Gameranx? Do you work with Falcon? ARE you Falcon? Because those are the only ways you can know how they feel about their viewers. Stop ruining the vibes

Honestly, Havent gotten to play Black myth myself (yet) but watching lets plays and friends play the game...
The trailers were really underselling Black Myth
Black Myth: Wukong GOTY by far. And i dont even play these type of games. Was pretty fun watching a Swedish streamer (Miss Mikkaa) getting flooded by Chinese and Asian viewers the first days thanks to someone uploading her Wukong videos on bilibili and added fansubs..
Vampire Survivors was such a fun game. Definitely recommend if anyone is looking for a good, chill time
Just bought it on sale from PlayStation store, now I'm completely hooked 😅
It's the perfect game for people who complain that real life keeps them away from gaming. Only have half an hour a day? That's just about how much a run takes, and if you really have to quit and walk away before finishing it's not like you're losing progress and have to do it all again since the game is all about repeated runs. Nordic Ashes is another game I recommend for the same reasons.
Stellar Blade and Black Myth Wukong really lived up the hype and proved us all wrong
Until the dev for stellar blade caved in and nerfed most of the outfits.

kind of way.
This was a fun video and BMW is epic. You guys should do a video on 10 games we thought were gonna be awesome but turned out to be scams.
The other games mentioned here not only had issues, but they also were announced and long time ago and then people thought they would never come out
Larian was hardly unknown before the release of bg3.

Black Myth Wukong a promise delivered that's why it sells and peoples loving it.
@@SikoMCexactly. I’m sure majority of sales came from china, where Son Wukong originated
@@jockwithajoystickI don't think it should discount the game but something like 80% of the player base at peak concurrent was from China. Again doesn't mean the game is bad, it's definitely good.
@@jockwithajoystick jep, over 80% from china. and yes, it is a good game.. but as so many things from china its not new.. its nioh + sekiro + nier:automata in a pre-existing "universe". i defenetly enjoyd to 100% it on steam but.. in my opinion its a bit overhyped just because it is a normal game with no micro transaction BS or politics forced into our faces xD If it was not for Sun Wukong it would have been a pretty ordinary game (that i would probably still have preorderd and binged down!) 😅
I knew System Shock Redux was going to get finished and be at least pretty good because Nightdive never stopped communicating with backers. The real KS scams (and I've fallen for a couple) are the ones that send out updates less and less frequently and eventually stop communicating altogether. In this case, they always kept us in the loop, so I never lost faith.
Those Chinese dev with little or even 0 experience made a better 3A than ubisoft / sony
China and Japan gonna take over gaming back. But it all depends on the Japanese whether they will succumb to literal mad men/women (wokist) pressure or stood by their own values. Otherwise….. bye2 gaming industry 😢
1 thing I've always heard about China: They underpromise and overdeliver
And I've always found it to be true. They get everything done earlier than promised and under budget. Workaholics, the lot of them.
So, can I catch Falcon with a Pokéball? Asking for a friend.....
There's a higher chance of that against catching Jake paying for pizza. Nobody has done the latter yet.

Days Gone or The Day Before?
Black myth Wukong for the GOTY. That game was too fun man....
10 times we thought it wasn’t Falcon but it was… Theme for next video.
As soon as I saw the title, I knew Omori was gonna be in here.
Though I must add, Omori was first conceptualized in 2011, and the kickstarter started in 2014, both before Undertale released.
What I really appreciate about Gameranx is they don’t swear in every sentence and are really mature in all there videos
thanks Gameranx for these wonderful years and beyond.
Vampire survivor is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had in 40 years of gaming. The combination of the value for the price and how addictive it is is mind blowing 🤯 I hope they keep releasing add ons I am dying to support them more. I bought it on the Xbox switch and PS5 lol
Vampire Survivors is what happens when someone knows every single dirty trick casinos and gacha games use to get you hooked, uses them all without a shred of hesitation, and then just stops taking your money because he doesn't really *need* infinity dollars.

I was a kickstarter backer for Eiyuden Chronicle. Hundred Heroes and I have to say: while it has some rough edges and things that could and should be better, it is pretty much what I hoped for overall and I am so happy I supported the game from the very beginning.
Thanks for the tips!
That FF7R teaser (from 2015 I think) still gives me chills
If you played Rebirth now we have a stunning revelation that the guy talking in the first trailer was actually Gi Natak speaking about our characters journey, same VA on trailer is the same Gi’s VA
@@TheGabrielSevero123 David Lodge is the voice in the 2015 reveal trailer, who does sound similar to Bruce Thomas who plays Gi Nattak, but no relation or significance.

A current game to keep your eye on is The Killing Antidote. It was published already as a free playable playtest on steam and it has very fun gameplay and good graphics. It's going into early access next month with a larger update.

This is not Falcon... Convince me otherwise
I take that back after seeing his tweets
