I bought and installed the cup holder, it's quite useful though the overhanging bmw radio does get in the road a little but I'm happy i bought it. Skipping 5th gear in a manual and going 4th to 6th (which i frequently do anyway) makes life easier.
Now if they could expand and make a magsafe pluck holder that'd be great. A flush design with the rest of the console, should allow enough space to plug a charger in the 12v, hold the cable and mount the magsafe pluck. I then can let my phone charge in a place where the GPS (for carplay) has no interferances (unlike the center console) and see it when I exit the car (so that hopefully I don't forget it). The plastic of 3D printing isn't great, but I am sure some stickers could help
Interesting idea, I've already looked at various ways using existing components, but to design something specific would increase the cost by quite some margin. I put my phone in the centre console, as I have a dock (self made) that is connected to my MMI box for the iDrive. With this set-up I have no issues with any GPS signal, although I have forgotten it on occasion! As for the 3D print, I'm very happy with the finish, certainly the front face you see all the time, but I appreciate it's a personal thing.
Hey, buddy! I can't express how helpful you've been with retrofitting basic parts of my e89 Z4 to upgraded/aftermarket installation videos! You're an absolute godsend! I've officially subscribed :) Besides that, I saw on the Bimmerpost forums that you upgraded your stock head unit to a different one that looks and fits exactly like the one I have which gives the car much better amplification. I can't seem to find this park anywhere and I'm doing my best to identify one but I simply can't.. Is there any chance you can help me out with this? The stock head unit I have really sucks when it comes to speaker performance and I'd highly appreciate your assistance! Thanks again for all of your amazing installation videos!
Glad you like the videos, there are more to come just as soon as I can get back onto them. As for the headunit I upgraded to... Firstly I had the really basic version to start with, ie; no Bluetooth (calls) or USB input, just AUX. So the mod I did was to fit the later spec headunit that had Bluetooth built-in along with USB control. Now there are various part numbers (these will probably be country/region specific) but you can tell them apart from the standard ones by looking on the label and the rear of the unit. The label has "Bluetooth written on it along with the Bluetooth symbol and on the rear there is an additional white socket (bigger then the Black for the antenna) which is for the USB input. Alas it's not just a straight swap over as you'll need some coding. Also if you already have either Bluetooth or USB control via another module then this could potentially be a problem as this is a retrofit for the base version really.
I subscribed and don't even have an e89 yet! Thinking of getting one without the head unit - would like to install a custom aftermarket one (with android auto etc...) What are your thoughts?

@randomnik70 I always really wanted the idrive as I like the OE. I also found I was only ever using Android Auto on the touchscreen, so when I found they did the mmi boxes for Android Auto and CarPlay, I decided to change it. There was nothing wrong with the Android screen as it was spot on, but it also gave me more content for the channel 👍
I'd prefer one to be made to fit in the centre armrest to be honest. I do like it but will it hold coffee cups, as that is what my wife will want to put in it.
Each hole is 68mm, so a coffee cup that has a reduced base may fit depending on how big it is overall. When you say one to fit the centre armrest, did you know that BMW had that as an option? Instead of the full width tray, it was split 50/50 with one side having two cup holders. The downside tothisis that you have to leave the lid up, and you'd hit the cups every time you changed gear. So it's not a very practical location.
@@BMWZ4Mods Wouldn't be an issue for me David as my Z4 is an Auto. Also like most people I don't have a phone which fits into the charger supplied in the console. I can live without but my wife loves her coffee. Tony.
Another very informative video. But i have to say what is the obsession with folk and cup holders to store a cold coffee or flat can of pop. Surely you buy the drink and pull over and enjoy it there and then. Looking at this video on it can compromise the gear changing with youre hand hitting tge bottles or cans..is it really worth compromising the driving just to store a can or bottle ..seriously
Well, I appreciate where you're coming from,but with a standard can, I can assure you there are minimal issues. Although I don't often have a drink in the car, I have had a couple in at the same time on a few occasions. I just adjust my grip on the gear knob, no problem to me, and on a long motorway journey you're not changing gear often. For the lack of the ashtray (I don't smoke anyway) it works for me 👍
Got one. Fitted. Works well. It's a bit of a pain not being able to take a can of pop on a journey; this solves the problem.

I need one too but a bit pricey for a non BMW product that someone’s knocked up on their 3d printer. Will persevere with the centre console one.

Yeah..me too. There is a company that do interior wrapping…but I want alcantara and they will only wrap vinyl unfortunately.
