Fun fact, Civ III's Ancient Greek music is _actually_ Ancient Greek music. It's a piece called "The First Delphic Hymn to Apollo", which was engraved in the wall of the treasury of Delphi in 128BC by (or on behalf of) a composer named Athenaios. It's the oldest piece of music whose composer's name is known.
You deserve many more subscribers, the amount of time you spend making these videos, and I admire your dedication to Civ 3. My personal favorite was Civ 4
I really forgot how nice this game is I played it like 8y ago and now after 8y I first time enterd industrial era ahh how good music music is best part of the game XD
Great video suede! I love playing as sumeria as it makes the early game much easier in comparison to others and you get the benefit of having a great trait in agricultural.
12;47 I had that happen on Warlord difficulty which is the second easiest setting. Essentially the Incas or Iroquois sent most of their force to die against a barbarian settlement. Barbarians had horses. None of us had horses yet - I just researched them. Iroquois/Incas had enough units to completely roll over my civ if they let the barbarians attack me on one side and came at me from the other (which was closest and most convenient for them). Instead they went all around my territory wasting all time and stringing their troops along in groups of 3, some times single units which won battles but also lost. The barbarian settlement was healing and [ building new units - because I left their village in fog of war) fast enough that they killed close to 20 units... I took the opportunity to get a huge scientific lead and the game was easy. I was just doing a space race for fun :) When the AI goes to attack me on that difficulty they stack every unit together and only travel as one with a minimum of 8 soldiers in a stack. This and many other things were never polished up in CIV3 ..
The Gold Per Turn trading takes into account your current +Gold per turn. If you try to trade and would put yourself into a negative Gold Per Turn, the AI will automatically say no. If you turn your slider the whole way down, you can use your GPT more freely if you wanted to.
Woah man, a statue of Zeus! If you build it, the Mayan's are in biig trouble! Btw, you don't have a single horse? Anyway, sword + cats with ancient cavalry should wipe Mayans. Or even sword+archers. I've read recently that they are good match, because you got archer defense bombardment, and swords are like spears., so attack is always 3, and defense is 2+1(bombard). Are you sue it's not easier to just put reasearch to 10% or 0%, and just buy techs, or even better, steal (from far away nation (Babylons in this case)? These are just my random thoughts, not advices, because I am a much worse player. Good luck, looking forward for next part. :)
I said I wouldn't rely on early conquest for this game, and I'm sticking to it. Swordsmen and archers do have synergy for that reason. And I don't have anything better to spend my gold on, since I'm not pursuing any upgrade strat. It may look like additional gold from 100% tech speed doesn't do much, but the effect just isn't visible, due to the way minimum tech speed works.
Hey Suede, love your content! Sorry for the mundane question, but I notice you're running a few mods ; is there some sort of mod or patch to fix or improve graphical rendering of the game? Some of it might be down to how I run the game (I'm on Linux) but I can't see the peace/war lines on the diplo advisor for example... Thanks in advance :-) feel free to otherwise recommend some good QoL mods you're using, too!
There's only two mods on my game. The first is the minimap grid (it's a multiplayer thing). The second is popheads, which makes it clear which citizens are happy or unhappy. Everything else, like the diplomacy lines, is an option that you can activate. That specific option you can turn on in the foreign advisor. ua-cam.com/video/X1M4Piblfg0/v-deo.html See this video for details.
32:35 That's very interesting! You described the selection pattern as a spiral in another video, but does this mean it's more of a BFC like a city? EDIT: Oh, it's determined according to the BFC of each city?
Everyone's allowed their own rules, but no, I wouldn't. This actually happened in reverse on my stream earlier today. The AI is programmed to fortify their units on choke points, so I couldn't contact two civs who were beyond that choke. So if the AI does it, I think it's fair game.
@@suedeciviii7142 Ah yes I see it now, thank you. It's been so many years since I last played this game. The best I ever could do was a world conquest win on Emperor on a huge world with 7 enemy civs with rampaging barbarians - my standard 1 player setup for Civ1 and 2.
@@suedeciviii7142 Yeah...I have a wild republic woolly mammoth named Ellie May...suspect she's actually half mammoth/half elephant because of how she looks...we are both Civilization fans; I've considered making her a costume like a war elephant from Civ. I usually edit Civ when I play so that I can have war elephants in more empires, (Rome, Persia and Egypt under the Ptolemies had them) often wondered though why ivory wasn't a required resource in the game for war elephants like horses were for horsemen.
Ugh I cant get over how much I love the ancient era soundtrack

Same :) but tbh i remember how good it was and it always stayed as my favourite game even thought i didn't have it
Nothing more Cathartic than having a worker swarm connect your cities with railroads
I love Civ logic. "I'm Agricultural. Therefore I put mines everywhere. Who needs farms?"

Yeah thanks. I've been using that this playthrough and it's massively helpful

I'll post part 2 :)

Dude... this series is awesome.
One vid after the other, you're pumping them out!
we all need to spam 2k for a civ 3 remaster
@Shadow King it is the same game HD or not
Why so few workers? I guess I'm doing the worn thing by spamming them and covering the map with roads?

EDIT: Oh, it's determined according to the BFC of each city?
It goes in a spiral, but it has to be within the BFC otherwise you won't ever get the shields. I was just confused as to the positioning of the tiles.
At 56:00 would you consider an exploit to block the mayan settler with your units?

14:13 you say the "the lack of the river slowed you down" . What do u mean by that?
Rivers give bonus commerce, so without a river you tech slower.
How can you tell if the diplomatic deals are going to work?
Not sure what you mean by this sorry. The foreign advisor says "They'll probably accept this deal". Is that what you mean?

@@suedeciviii7142 thanks a lot. Btw I've really enjoyed your videos and I've learnt a lot. You're a good UA-camr!
Oiyeeeeeeeey!
What's the point of putting another city inside borders that you already own? I see you do it a lot but I don't recall you explaining why.
The simple reason is that they can grow, and produce shields and commerce.
If you mention a particular city, I can go into more detail.
Get the elephants to the west by your warrior!
You really like elephants hahah :)
