    The part that's missing:
At the end of the day
    We're all people
    My father once told me
    It's a world without borders
    I miss you every day
    Is what I secretly whisper
    See dad,
    I've listened.
This relates to Joost losing his father (papa) to cancer at an early age (and his mother a year later), which is the second motif of the song.

The song is all about his dad, who told him that the world has no borders (hence EU references) if you want. Your mind itself is limitless if you want, you can even sing at the ESC if you want (dad you see I listened to you).
It could have been a sad song, but as his only goal was to indeed sing at the ESC and prove his dad right, why not make it happy?

This song is about grief but he transforms this and leaves it behind by burning the past symbolic.
You see Joost lost his parents at a very young age first his father one year later his mother
He missed them very much, so much that he had anger problems and had to have therapy because anger is also an emotion.
He also had a youtube channel and he wanted to become an artist
This was difficult because his first label wanted 92 procent so he was smart and started his own label.
This ofcourse is difficult for a young boy but he succeeded.
He also wrote a book and poetry.
His father was a writer also.
He performed on festivals like Pukkelpop, Lowlands and Pinkpop.
He wrote songs and became a great word artist rapper.
He got lots of fans because youngsters could relate to his lyrics and felt it was ok not to be ok sometimes.
He was selected out of 600 to represent the Netherlands.
His work is personal and layered like literature.
    Double meanings.
He is a real performer with a great charisma and energy.
This song is not political it is about him travelling through Europe taking his grief with him.
The end is very touching where he says his father learned him
that borders are made by people so refering to the fact we are all one.
Thank you for your interesting analyse of this song.
    🇳🇱🙏♥️

Happy Hardcore and Gabber are essential Dutch musical innovations from the 1990s. A very recognizable ¨Dutch" sound, courtesy of Paul Elstak, who's in the video too.

Innovation is the right word here, because it's not the same as inventing something from ground up.
Then again, most music genres are somehow derived from or inspired and influenced by other genres. Many artists, musicians and composers have others as their inspiration or example, even the musicians you suggest whould be turning in their grave have them.

Thank you for taking this emotional rollercoaster. My recap: You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.

The tribute to his parents (both died when he was young) at the end of the song was also triggered in the middle of the song where he referred to Stromae's song "Papa outai" . "Outai" is French slang for "où t'es" which means where are you, indicating he misses his father. Quite some layers in this song.

It is three versions of himself in his childhood bedroom. Stuck in grief, hanging on to a time that has gone forever. Heartbreaking nostalgia. He is freeing himself of that now with an impressive bonfire. But that last part will probably be left out for the live act.
Thank you, I enjoyed your reaction.

Joost's last name "Klein" is the Dutch (and German) translation of the English word "Small". Hence, his life motto is "Joost Klein, droom groot", which can be translated as "Joost Small, dream big"

The translation of the bit at the end:
'At the end of the day, we're all humans
My father once told me it's a world without borders.
"I miss you every day, is what I secretly whisper"
Do you see dad? I did listen to you'
The original outro is longer than the bit included in the music video though.
    The full outro;
On crusade in my jeans, walking through the fields.
My daddy and my mommy will forever be my heroes.
At the end of the day, we are all human beings.
My father once told me: "It is a world without borders"
Rain on the window and I stood crying by the windowpane.
Darkness comes too early, it is winter in the spring.
"I miss you every day" is what I secretly whisper
Do you see, dad? I did listen to you'

The music and music video format is made in 90s style. The music is 90's Eurodance with Happy Hardcore elements.
Happy Hardcore was very popular in the 90s in the Netherlands
At the beginning of the song there is a shout.
"Europe" ""lets come together" "is now or never" etc. That is a reference to Scooter
The piano melody in the chorus when he sings Euro pa pa pa pa pa hey. Is a reference to Charly lownoise Mental Theo who made Happy Hardcore in the 90s.
    e.g
Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - Your Smile
Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days
The hard last part of the music is Made by DJ Paul Elstak Who also made Happy Hardcore in the 90's.
    e.g
Dj Paul Elstak - Luv You More
Dj Paul Elstak - Rainbow In The Sky
He is also in the car in the video. DJ Paul also made Gabber (Hardcore) music.
GabberHouse was very big in the Netherlands in the 90s. It was a youth culture that originated in the Netherlands.
1 in 3 young people was Gabber (age 14 - 24). Those young people dancing (Hakkuh) in the video they look like the 90 Gabbers. Bald head or very short hair, Australian (Aussie) training suit, Nike Air Max shoes.
    Forgot to say.
The birds in the beginning of the music video are a reference to "Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days". The original music video for that song also starts with birds in the sky
Conclusion the music can't be more Dutch than this

It's a pity that you chose to skip the preliminary investigation for this particular song. Several themes intertwine in this piece: Firstly, the nostalgia for the 'happy hardcore' that dominated the Dutch music scene in the nineties and is now undergoing a revival. Secondly, the connection between countries and people enabled by Europe. However, the main theme is the loss of both of Joost's parents. He had promised his father that he would participate in the EVS, and now he is keeping that promise. The main theme escapes many casual listeners because the cheerful beat masks the tragic words. This contrast is characteristic of Joost's work

The whole song is a gaint easteregg
It has easter eggs within eastereggs.
Ive never heard something like this before.
The Title ´´Europapa´´ has 6 different meanings on its own.
Europa = EU (The only politcal refference)
    Europa = a continent.
    Europa means Evening land
Europa = a name in the greek mythology
    Euro=money
    Papa/pa= dad
    The lyrics are no different.
You can interpert the song in so many ways
i really like the refference to Stromae-papaoutai
id say this is true art

The song is a letter to his parents who died when Joost was still young. His father told him that since humans invented the borders, he could invent the world, his own world. And so he did! The end with the burning picture and house means that it's time to stop grieving about his parents and step into a new phase in his life.
