Can you please react to 2024 Eurovision Portugal🇵🇹?
Grito is Scream in English, and Grito not appear in the lyrics..
Grito is the scream in the climax of the song, when she liberates from the demons represented by the dancers.
      It is not commercial.
      A masterpiece.
No one in the Eurovision compares to this.🇵🇹
"Ainda arde".. means "still burns", the flame that she still has inside of her.
I suggest seeing this specialist in UA-cam that did a deep analysis of the song: his name Eurovision Histories. 😊

This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is gabber music - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, and the sub genre is called happy hardcore. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.

    • @tjitse3916

Great way to explain it! I'm Dutch, and although I haven't lost my parents (yet) I can strongly relate to the things he put in this video: pain, loss, getting to know about life around you, about what your parents taught you, finding yourself in it all, in all that is or is not part of your culture. You learn just as much about yourself by finding stuff that isn't like you than you do in finding stuff you do like (and such). It is a deep message packed in a humorous, funny, yet also serious at the end kind of tone. This is indeed a piece of art!

The Dutch culture??? With the EU borders open and all the immigrants pouring in by the thoudands each day, the Dutch culture is deteriorating rapidly. It all holds a connection to the elimination of our farmers (The Netherlands being the #2 of food production en distributor worldwide!). This is all according to the NWO plans that The Netherlands as a whole (!!!!) will be the CAPITAL OF EUROPE. This song is not an ode to Europe, it is a tool te get the people get used to the idea that the Dutch culture will be destroyed and make place for a mixture of many cultires far outside the Netherlands including many other religions that do not at all match the Dutch living standards. It is asking for trouble. Why do you think the Dutch have been protesting the past years? As has the rest of the world. It is one big elite-scam to hold their power and songs like these are used to make their statement and to steer people in a certain direction.
There is nothing fun about it. The symbolism in the song is uncanny!!!!

  • @robthecryptosnob8548
    @robthecryptosnob8548 2 місяці тому +14

The entire song (while sounding happy) actually has a depressive undertone, relating to the fact that people with severe depression might act very happy to put on a mask.
Lines like "I lost everything, except for time", "I'm in Germany but I'm so alone, even when I'm in Italy I still feel the pain" underscoring the fact that since the death of his parents he's felt deep pain and lonelyness no matter where he goes.
And the bit that says "I'm running from myself, all day long I call for help, I even give people money but there's nobody who really helps me", highlighting his battles with his depressions, PTSD and eating disorder, and that even doctors (the people he pays) can't really help him.
So yeah, it's actually a very sad song in a very happy shell. Like Joost himself is very sad but puts up this happy mask for the world.
And all this as a hyme to his parents, packed in a song that represents the unification of Europe, and the importance of it, especially now with the big red angry giant from the east lurking over us Western Europeans. It's not a great song, it's a masterpiece.

It's kinda nostalgic to me, DJ Paul Elstak was making songs in the 90's and i remember sitting in the back of our crappy car listening to a mixtape with him on it. It's Europe centric, yet extremely dutch.

    The unshortened outro goes like:
"On a crusade in my jeans, walking through the fields
My dad and my mom are forever my heroes
At the end of the day, we are all human
My father once told me: "It's a world without borders"
Rain against the dormer, while I stood at the window crying.
Darkness far too early, it is winter in the spring time.
“I miss you every day,” is what I secretly whisper
See now, Dad? I listened to you"

The song is a letter to his parents who died when Joost was still young. His father told him that since humans invented the borders, he could invent the world, his own world. And so he did! The end with the burning picture and house means that it's time to stop grieving about his parents and step into a new phase in his life.

Joost lost his dad when he was 12years old and his mum 1 year later. The song is an ode to his parents, especially his dad - the song is called 'Europapa' -> papa means dad in Dutch and he refers also to a song from the Belgian singer Stromae called papaoutai, which in French means ''dad, where are you?''

  • @TheRemyLeBeau
    @TheRemyLeBeau 2 місяці тому

First of all, the lyric captions are _on point_ . So you don't have to worry about getting gibberish subtitles.
From what I gather it's firstly a personal message. The song conveys the grief and struggles Joost had after losing both of his parents (hence the "I gave people money, yet nobody helps me"), then touring Europe to get accustomed with other cultures in his quest to overcome his grief. Despite crossing borders, it didn't really help him with his grief (hence the "I don't need escargot or fish 'n chips"), but he did get a newfound appreciation for other cultures.
    *Tribute*
The second part is that it's a tribute to his father, because he and his family always watched Eurovision back when he was young, making him appreciate the festival. Even back then he had a musical ambition, making him announce to his parents that one day he would be standing on that same stage. Since they've both died, he decided to make it a tribute to his parents, often citing that the appreciation for Europe came from what his father told him. This is also indicated by the title's double meaning, blending 'Europa' and 'Papa' (dad) together into 'Europapa'.
This is also shown by the burning picture of his parents as the fire conveys that's how he felt when both of his parents passed away at respectively age 13 and 14 (iirc). It was a panic, like a house on fire. In his case, as a child, that was his whole world, which is depicted by that vision of Europe being on fire.
    *Europe*
The third part of the song depicts his love for Europe as a whole, referring to Germany, Poland, Italy, France and such.
    *Culture*
The fourth part shows his appreciation for The Netherlands, showing the Kinderdijk, the windmills, the culture, but also his musical influences and associations. In the clip you'll see (for instance the singer S10 that represented The Netherlands on Eurovision previously, but also other well-known Dutch people). The guy sitting in the car (when he himself sits on the roof) is DJ Paul Elstak (best known for his song "Rainbow in the sky"), which was a huge inspiration for his musical direction. Some people even claimed that this song is kind of an 'introduction into hardcore/gabber', as the song starts off as modern pop-music and eventually dissolves into pure hardcore/gabber by the end. In that sense it might even be advocating for more hardcore music.
Hardcore/Gabber is a music genre that The Netherlands 'exported' through their producers. It was immensely popular in numerous European countries if not entire Europe and it made way for spin-offs music genres like _trance_ and _hardstyle_ as hardcore/gabber lost its popularity. In both musical genres The Netherlands is a huge player, with the most popular ones being DJ Tiësto, Hardwell, Afrojack and so on. Last I heard 6 out of the top 10 DJs worldwide are Dutch.
    *Political*
Now, where it gets muddied is whether it's also a political statement. Because the house on fire can also be depicted as a statement for what's happening in Europe, with Ukraine being the most prominent example, but it can also refer to the constant political conflict in the EU. People also point out that one of the 'aussies' worn by the girl shows the colors of the Ukraine flag, which can be interpreted as a jab to Russia, but can also be interpreted as 'standing together'. After all, you can also make a statement that several of those 'aussies' represent different countries in Europe based on the color schemes.
Is this coincidential? I don't think so, but it's so subtle that you _can_ claim that it's not a political statement with valid reasoning, since the theme for the first three points is visible throughout the song's clip. Do keep in mind that Joost Klein started off his career as a UA-camr, making satiric comedy sketches before becoming an actual musician. His background in (and penchant for) satire makes it quite possible that the song is not only a happy-go-lucky song, but also a jab at the European Union as a whole, mental healthcare in The Netherlands (and Europe) and Russia's war against Ukraine. In that sense it's a very ... intelligent combination, without making it blatantly obvious.
I hope you can appreciate this breakdown. I don't comment that often, but I figured you might appreciate this explanation.
    *Eurovision*
And since you're not familiar with the Eurovision contest, why don't you check out "a beginners guide to the Eurovision song contest" by David Bennett Piano? It's a rather fun and simplified explanation of the culture and history of the contest throughout the years in Europe. May be an interesting thing to watch offline in your spare time, but it may also suit your channel since it's European related and The Netherlands is mentioned in there as well.

It doesn't matter you don't understand the song. Eurovision is a song competition with all European countries + Australia (and usually Israel, but it's controversial and unclear if they'll be allowed to compete this year). Many countries compete with songs in their native language. So we don't always understand each other's songs either 😅 That's kinda the charm of the competition tho. Getting together regardless of language barriers and cultural differences, but still having a good time together.
