Just a quick word Richard about your video in that it was pin sharp. I watch all vloggers on my old Kindle and some just don't come across very well but yours are very clear with no bluring whatsoever. Being brought up many moons ago i was always taught to only buy something when/if you can afford it and apart from my mortgage, now paid off, I've never bought anything on the tick.

me neither, paying my hard earned to money lenders or whatever they call themselves these days would hurt too much lol. Credit cards are always paid off when i get the statement, i get their rewards for free so they work for me :), the credit score adverts you see on telly with smilling idiots making out they have actually had a result make me laugh at how easily people are duped coz they obviously must work. Hi Ian. It’s very easy to get caught up in debt today. I understand that abouts 60% or more people in the uk can survive only 1 month before repossession starts and it’s even higher in the US. Terrible situation leading to wage slavery. If one can’t afford it, then don’t buy 👍👍

As a pensioner myself, I resent contributing to a dealer's profits, so I haven't bought a bike from a dealer for over 30 years. The only advantages to buying from a dealer is if you need to part exchange or get finance, and you will certainly pay for the privilege. A lot of the warranties they offer have so much small print that they are not worth the paper they are written on.
As a retired mechanic, I prefer to rely on my own judgment, and never accept what the owner tells me unless I can verify it for myself. My last purchase was from Ebay 3 years ago, a 1980 Suzuki GS550L. Although there is always some risk, because it was too far away to view in person, there were plenty of photos, the seller sent me a video of it starting and running, and it had a new MOT, so I decided how much I was prepared to bid, and I was successful. I knew I would need to spend some time and money getting it to my satisfaction, but the price was low enough to make it worthwhile, and it's been my everyday bike ever since.

Hi Rick. Now that’s how to do it. It’s great to know there are other riders out there who can use their head and a screw driver. Sadly, this is becoming a rarer thing. And it’s great to hear an older ride is still on the road 👍

Yep, Cash only, save up for it, do not live beyond your means. When you loose your job you will then have an asset not a liability.

Lol if you can't afford a few payments between jobs, you shouldn't be buying anything

@@logangodofcandy Absolutely agree, if I can’t afford a few payments between jobs, I would ‘t be buying anything “ On Credit” The only credit I ever had was a mortgage, managed to pay that off 14 years early by running around in paid for for ‘rat’ cars and bikes. The freedom of owning my home outright and not feeling trapped in a particular job/occupation certainly beat the freedom of riding a shiny new bike keeping me trapped in a financial situation I could not manoeuvre from. Each to his/her own. I guess this whole credit thing keeps the economy afloat……. Until the next financial crisis and foreclosures.

Hi Richard, I have bought from private sales and dealers in the past and both have been good in most instances. My question is, would you buy a bike off say eBay from a dealer that you have not seen, purely based on the photo shots? I enjoyed the ride out on the Bonneville and the footage came out great. 👍

I did exactly that (for the very first time) with the BSA Gold Star. And the end result was as expected. It was as it was in the photos. A very small problem with the service history not being with the bike, but that was resolved within a few days from the dealer - by post. Would I do this again? Based on my first experience, yes I would. Hope this helps somewhat 😆

Cash only. save up, shop around, read reviews, a penny saved is a penny earned, dont get drawn into advertising hype & think it's only £xxx per month. GL

@@logangodofcandy for most of us it's impossible to buy a house without a mortgage, that's an exception, however as far as luxury goods go (and i class a car as one of those) the one and only time i ever had a loan or any kind of credit was when i was a poor apprentice engineer in the 70's lol and borrowed £200 from barclays for my 2nd car. Ever since i have saved up and paid cash for everything or done without & it's served me well. for many years i did without many things people take for granted these days, i cycled everywhere, and put most of what i earned into paying my mortgage off early. as the years passed and the mortgage payments became less of a percentage of my wage i put the money into savings and eventually was totally debt free, then made some wise investments. i hated the thought of someone else having a hand into my pay packet so didn't do it. I don't think i'm anything special, just brought up old school as many of us boomers are. GL
