  • I'm not a huge Valentine's Day fan... I'm far too grumpy! But I am happy to play some romantic music on my recorders, of course!
For this little Valentine's Day special I chose 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Giacomo Puccini's opera 'Gianni Schicchi'.
I've added a harmony line for tenor recorder to the melody. There's lots of things I would change about my 'composition'... but hopefully it is a good starting point to have a play around with! Please feel free to screen shot the sheet music, if you'd like to play it.
    The recorders I used are:
Soprano: Aulos Haka, plastic: amzn.to/3JgRk2e (this is an Amazon Affiliate link; I may earn a small commission if you decide to purchase this recorder through the link. It all helps support the channel!)
Tenor: Mollenhauer Denner comfort tenor, boxwood: earlymusicshop...

I like the melody on the soprano, its nearly right but not quite. But I just cant get on with more than one recorder or whistle being played together, it grates on my nerves like fingernails on a blackboard. To me they sound like a fairground organ. I would prefer to hear it as a soprano solo piece, but thats just me. I will take a screen shot though and have a go at it on my C whistle.

I love that you play as duet. I like the high and depth of the low notes

Doing these duets has been the thing I’ve found most useful for helping to improve my timing. More obvious when something is wrong than just with the metronome 🤪

as always, great movie. I recognized you only by your voice with this fringe and makeup you look amazing, almost like a dream. it's a pity that we are separated by a distance and you probably have a husband. Either way you look so beautiful I can't find words to describe it. happy Valentine's Day .

My favourite opera piece, especially when sung by Maria Callas. I was impressed by your performance.

Grand. Sounded great, impressive arrangement. Would have sounded really great in a massive Cathedral with organ overtones. Happy Valentines Day :-)

I don't like to say, on my phone thru Bluetooth speakers (decent), the tenor was booming & the highs were thin with the lower soprano notes washing out against the tenor.
Just thought I would report it. I have no idea how you may be recording, or if you can do anything at all about balance.
Nice arrangement, though. Musically, you're an amazingly quick study.

Thanks for the feedback- it’s helpful to know how it sounds on other devices! I listened on three of my devices and it sounds completely different on all three 🤪
I’m trying to up my recording/ mixing game but being generally technologically useless, it will take a while!

@@ClaythorpeMusic I am far from well versed, but watch your budget. If you want really good fidelity and even balance, it can run some serious shekels.

@@ClaythorpeMusic I just listened again, same speakers, which do bring out the low end, because that's the whole purpose of them, to replace a tinny speaker on your phone.
I can't balance them. I use them for movies or music or volume. I'm telling you all this so you'll know the circumstances. The results are still loud lows from the tenor and thin trebles.
It could possibly be you want to soft-pedal the boomier instruments when you want duets, etc.

@@JESL_TheOnlyOne I had a sound engineer friend bring round a wide selection of his equipment for me to try out the other day. Mind slightly blown, as could easily be the money! But I think he’s helped me begin to pick out some better recording gear within a sensible price.

@@JESL_TheOnlyOne I think it didn’t help that I used a different editing program to usual. I’ve since reverted back! Appreciate the feedback, it’s helpful, thanks.
