keep these cold case mysteries coming!!
Seen it several times
Gotta love the cold cases. Always intriguing! Rather they’re solved or not. I like some of the continued mysteries as well that’s yet to be solved. But it’s nice getting an explanation as well, so.. looks like a strong edition. I’ll be Peacockin’ today. 😎
OK, I can’t find anywhere in the Podcasts to leave a comment or message on Dateline NBC podcast channel. I don’t think this will go anywhere, but I just have to say, I’ve almost given up on listening to the podcast because you give away what’s going to happen right before you say what’s going to happen; before the commercials. I just found out the ending, yet again to what I’m listening to, long before it gets to it. I’m able to quickly mute my TV when I’m watching it, but it sneaks up on you on the Podcasts. I almost threw my phone today. 😅
When did this happen?
Is this an old episode? This case has been covered on SO many shows.
We have never told this story before, it’s an all-new Dateline.
Not helpful to have a trailer with no link to the YT full length video
👩🏽🦱🇺🇸 I watched the full 2 hour episode, and Fran's sister is a great investigator. She's also a great communicator. This was one of the best Dateline shows that I've watched.
However, the judge who allowed the jury not to know about Fran's death made a seriously bad decision. John David Smith is a serial killer, so the jury should have known that. Then he would have gotten a life sentence.
I find the NJ prosecutor's decision to accept his "confession/admission" as well as their subsequent justification of the terms unacceptable and inexplicable. The crime may have happened 3 decades ago, but there's no way they should have accepted his fictional tale, no questions asked and call that justice for Fran's family. The terms should have required that he provide his version of what happened to Agent Hilland or others who would be willing to investigate to corroborate or refute his account. The man is a convicted killer, established manipulator, proven habitual liar and the prosecutor decided, 'sure, let's just take his word, no questions asked and wrap things up.' Shame on them for rolling over and continuing to give him control.
Yes it's an old story but poorly retold. Had to listen over and over. Still so many unanswered questions.
