Nice camp Ray👍 The Ochil Hills look like a great place for a camp. I always enjoy looking at other hills from a distance too and I’m lucky enough to see Ben Vorlich and Ben Lomond as well from my local hill. I’m quite jealous these hills are close to you. I still need to visit the Ochil Hills for a camp. Nice tent as well it looks quite big. Congratulations on hitting 10K as well👍 ATB Gaz.
I’m rather envious of your wild camps....I’m currently in Skye wishing I could have a nice simple low level walk and wild night out. I’m here, my gear is here sadly so is the wind and rain so I’m holed up for a day or two. Many years ago when I used to walk I’d have a copy of a Stephen King book in my rucksack, just the thing to keep you awake all night. Would also like to say, (I haven’t noticed it before but) it’s refreshing to have a vlog without a lot of music. Great vlog as always, keep them coming!
Love watching your films Ray, and a great area for walking and camping, over there frequently as on my doorstep. The morning footage looked so peaceful with all the low mist hanging on the hills at the reservoirs, cracking stuff mate, thank you 👍 A.T.B.
Lovely place, thank you for sharing. Hope the dog got saved OK! He was just a little bit too wary if you, but I think was hanging on faithfully for his owner to show up. Chocolate coffee is great 👍
Nice one Ray - must admit I’ve never really explored the Lochills (see what I did there 😂) looks a pretty decent wild camping location 👌 great vid - hope the dog got re United with its owners :) Catch up soon M

Nice and simple solo in the hills. Grass roots camp. I like the way you highlighted the hills you mentioned. That’s a cool effect. I’ve been to the ochills spent a pretty crazy night on a campsite got dragged into karaoke 🎤 😂 still not sure what went on. Good to see you getting oot Ray. Atb. 👍
Heading out without looking at weather, just knowing you're going to enjoy it no matter what. Very cool. This was quite an enjoyable overnighter you filmed for us.

Thanks for the video, Ray! I still remember one of your first videos on your channel. In the Ochil Hills as well. Above a reservoir and the lights of Edinburgh in the distance. Still one of my favorites, to be honest! It's a pitty that it isn't online anymore. Atb
That was my first ever camp up there until now. Many old films taken down as the quality is shocking. Trying to get image good for 4K tv in living room and my last 3 films or so have been done with my full frame camera rather than a GoPro. Think it adds more depth and clarity to the image. Atb
Great to see you in the Ochils. I lived at the foot of them until a couple of years ago. Tarmangie was my favourite peak and the best veiw point in the whole range (IMHO) and Colsnaur a close second. Try what's known as the round of 9 and wild camp half way. There plenty of peaks to choose from.
Great video as ever. I lived in Menstrie for a while backing straight on to the Ochils and was always surprised by how quiet they were despite some fabulous 360 views. Fabulous choice of camp spot Ray, makes me wonder how many other places are in our own back yards and we overlook because we are attracted by things further afield!
It is a great area which is very underrated, even by myself which I am changing now ;) Looking on the maps there is so many walks amongst the hills and areas to camp is surprising. Atb

Just interested to know if you've had any quality issues with yours.
I bought it second hand from a person on the MLD owners group on Facebook so didn't need to import from US. Worth joining and keeping an eye out for things coming up for sale. So far had it up to 25-30mph winds fine but looking to test higher over the coming months to really push it. Atb
Amazes me how you pack all that gear in. Went to Cambeltown a few months back. Have you done that area? Regards and thanks for the great vids. Regards AL
It was the Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid in DCF. The inner tent was from Aliexpress and tweaked to fit. Have videos on my channel all about it. However it has been passed on and now back to one of my favourites the MSr Access 2. Only reason for change was the camo colour of the tent was murder for photography. It is good but needs to be very cold weather as hiking in it such as in this video I was melting. Depending on if it is super cold I still need to supplement it with a down jacket when sitting about camp. Note that it is not waterproof so only use it when dry, light drizzle weather. It is meant to get wet and still keep you warm but never tried it yet to see if it works. Atb
Hi Ray, Happy new year. Just wondered which shelter you preferred between this duomid and the notch li? Looking at a new shelter for a couple of multi day treks this year and I’m torn 💆🏽
To be honest the Duomid was best tent I have ever owned. However would only get it in the DCF Cuben material as it is strong and light for stormy weather. Silnylon stretches when wet meaning having to retention guylines that you dont need to do with DCF. Downside is to get the best inner you need to purchase from Ali Express and do a few mods. If you watch my review films on the tent you will understand. Gives great space in bad weather as 4 pegs and pole in and your under the worst of the weather in a few minutes. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors really appreciate the help, I’m guessing not much difference in total weight, main concern with duomid is the area required to pitch compared to the notch li
@@johnsonpt2 Never really had a problem. Although Notch is smaller you can't swing a cat in it. Missed duomid when packing up gear from the Notch as you can only do it from outside really. So if raining....would rather be under Duomid and pack everything up. You then just drop pole, roll up and your off.
I envy you having these hills near to you, it's as flat as a pancake here in Essex. Mostly marshland & woodland camps unless I go away for a few days. What tent is that?
Cracking video Ray its a cracking area you live in I look forward to seeing more camps up there hope you managed to get the dog sorted out mate what is the jacket and trousers your wearing atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
It is the Montane Extreme Smock and the trousers are a Forclaz 600 or 900 winter version from Decathlon. Done a video on the smock a little while ago. Atb
Ray I just bought the mld duomid and the 3ful inner havnt pitched it together yet but what's your pole height and did u use a carabiner to hang the inner? And also I see you have red bunjeecord on the corners of the inner connecting to the duomid did u do that yourself to make the inner bigger thanks Nicholas 👍
In regards to hanging up the inner I think I had a small plastic hook from another old tent. The two inner patches are self adhesive dcf linlocs which i bought from link below. I had just put a small loop on end of cord which i could slip over toggles on inner nest mid points which would pull out inner. As for height I cant remeber off the top of my head but my Komperdell C3 poles where enough just past the max line to get good height. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313200328333?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3D262e6b44d26340d2809b8b8951951921%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D313200342206%26itm%3D313200328333%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseWebMskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeedKnnRecallV1BERT&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A313200328333262e6b44d26340d2809b8b8951951921%7Cenc%3AAQAHAAABIEro4ql1SUJ1li87bKftud%252BHNR6f%252BZqZvMWaqvYIq1S%252FWkIBqj9FQDQRu6mAcNzuioXWUR932%252F68tDooavd6O6Qw%252Bn3g48h%252FJWJJOh7%252BbiZXmkSJMA65OZRCGPhG%252FLpWzvz%252FyldV6Ig7zxan47ytbxS11NLgDdSvU3eTnnJUWLZagfaXjJQYLLSlMzajAwyhX3lTt0x7nG3qN9AB37UIbS1AJ3mRqTax%252FeC2VY3LklWa9WSbUMSIBBoKPW%252BZW%252Bc1%252FmXh18xN7HX6wL4HhUPV3Us95nv27QuAp1TrNlhDMSfYiz0hN36JltSLH2LrdblX3fm%252FGr%252BN82qaL93tYOzaGK1SSQTMFjTKxrzGtj1gfv3ouh3hj5r12XBDhwFWjNSK0w%253D%253D%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675

I read those books in my teens.. 1st one, Rats, kinda freaked me out a little at the camping scene lol we were getting organised to head off on a family camping trip in the trossachs & I almost didn't want to go 😅. What a gorgeous place you have to head to for a spontaneous camp. I often head a few miles up the road from us to a moorland for a nice chilled out camp, if im really lucky ill catch a glimpse of a pair of sea eagles, if not the resident red kites never let you down.
i recently bought the same winshield for a stove, it does make base of the stove and gas canister hot, which makes me feel it's unsafe.. do i have any reasons to worry abt it exploding? thank you.
@@RS.Outdoors hm... I mean top of the canister. bcs it s in direct contact with this aluminium windscreen, and offcourse some heat will spread to canister. I use it with msr pocket rocket 2.
I do! Do seem to have that happen often :) Ain't no dog whisperer though. Oh and along with weird spooky things going on when out with Murray for a colab. Atb
I use the Rode wireless Go, or on most occasions I have a Sony LCD-UX570 with Rode lav microphone that I record audio separate with and then change over in post production.
@@stevesdaysoff2759 Neither are totally waterproof. The Rode Wireless may take a little moisture but wouldn't recommend it. I clip under a jacket to protect them and it still works but you need to be aware of lots of movement may get picked up on the audio.
I had a scary moment in the Ochil Hills. With me it wasn't a jogger, it was a black panther! 😮 Other than that, I thought the Ochils were a bit moundy and samey. They did the job in letting me test some new equipment for the big hills...
The rats trilogy isn't really a good choice to read or listen to on a solo camp if you're got an active imagination, would I take them? Gnaw I wouldn't!. The hill highlighting is an excellent addition Ray. Sadly winter's coming along with another lockdown.
Thanks Alistair and hope you are keeping well. Thought I would try the highlighting to see if it made the video any better and seems to be popular with folks so may keep in future relevant films. Atb
Please can someone list a good set of requirements for a place to camp in England for my first overnighter. I'm embarrassed to go to a campsite on my own, my garden is all paved. So if I go to the woods it'll be illegal. Do people walk round and report you? Will I get a criminal record if I'm camping in the woods too?

@@RS.Outdoors completely understand, really appreciate your help with this. Thanks for your time 👍
I envy you having these hills near to you, it's as flat as a pancake here in Essex. Mostly marshland & woodland camps unless I go away for a few days. What tent is that?
It is the MLD Duomid and have done film about it and the inner for it in other videos. Atb
Atb
@@RS.Outdoors thanks Ray 👍👍
So you'll be on Ben Shee then ?, excellent keep up the vids :)
Yes I was. Atb
Beautiful Scenery sir, a shame about those windmills they built.
Tell me about it. Thanks for watching and Atb.
Great video but like Aggy was appalled by those turbines.Strange as the manmade reservoir looked like it belonged.
As for height I cant remeber off the top of my head but my Komperdell C3 poles where enough just past the max line to get good height. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313200328333?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3D262e6b44d26340d2809b8b8951951921%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D313200342206%26itm%3D313200328333%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseWebMskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeedKnnRecallV1BERT&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A313200328333262e6b44d26340d2809b8b8951951921%7Cenc%3AAQAHAAABIEro4ql1SUJ1li87bKftud%252BHNR6f%252BZqZvMWaqvYIq1S%252FWkIBqj9FQDQRu6mAcNzuioXWUR932%252F68tDooavd6O6Qw%252Bn3g48h%252FJWJJOh7%252BbiZXmkSJMA65OZRCGPhG%252FLpWzvz%252FyldV6Ig7zxan47ytbxS11NLgDdSvU3eTnnJUWLZagfaXjJQYLLSlMzajAwyhX3lTt0x7nG3qN9AB37UIbS1AJ3mRqTax%252FeC2VY3LklWa9WSbUMSIBBoKPW%252BZW%252Bc1%252FmXh18xN7HX6wL4HhUPV3Us95nv27QuAp1TrNlhDMSfYiz0hN36JltSLH2LrdblX3fm%252FGr%252BN82qaL93tYOzaGK1SSQTMFjTKxrzGtj1gfv3ouh3hj5r12XBDhwFWjNSK0w%253D%253D%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675
@@RS.Outdoors cheers Ray thanks for the help 👍
How you finding the montane extreme smock I'm considering getting one ?
It is good but needs to be very cold weather as hiking in it such as in this video I was melting. Depending on if it is super cold I still need to supplement it with a down jacket when sitting about camp. Note that it is not waterproof so only use it when dry, light drizzle weather. It is meant to get wet and still keep you warm but never tried it yet to see if it works. Atb
Thanks for watching and nice you have somewhere local to visit like myself. Atb
i recently bought the same winshield for a stove, it does make base of the stove and gas canister hot, which makes me feel it's unsafe.. do i have any reasons to worry abt it exploding?
thank you.
Wouldn't use it as my canister doesn't get hot at all. Maybe contact manufacturer for advice. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors hm... I mean top of the canister. bcs it s in direct contact with this aluminium windscreen, and offcourse some heat will spread to canister.
I use it with msr pocket rocket 2.
Hi like the vlogs I live local too mate Alloa
Nice one!
Hi. Could you share with us what the music is that you're playing at the start of the video, please?
It is purchased from Epidemic Sounds, Atb.
@@RS.Outdoors, thanks for the reply. Could you share the title so that I can find it and purchase it too, please?
what tripod do you use for the camera
I use a Benro Slim TSL08C.
I was looking at the astro one night you did fancy trying that but haven't got a clue what settings to use
I'm curious which tent you used is that a Zpacks?? I really like it looks to be ultra light!! Stay safe&happy!!(=
It is a MLD Duomid and have done videos about it on my channel. Atb
Another great video..you do seem to run into lost dogs on your camps.
I do! Do seem to have that happen often :) Ain't no dog whisperer though. Oh and along with weird spooky things going on when out with Murray for a colab. Atb
This is good
Thank you. Atb
Hello Ray. What wireless mic system do you use and is it water proof. It's for my Gopro. 👍
I use the Rode wireless Go, or on most occasions I have a Sony LCD-UX570 with Rode lav microphone that I record audio separate with and then change over in post production.
Is it water proof
@@stevesdaysoff2759 Neither are totally waterproof. The Rode Wireless may take a little moisture but wouldn't recommend it. I clip under a jacket to protect them and it still works but you need to be aware of lots of movement may get picked up on the audio.
Thanks Ray 👍
Atb
The start of the video made me think you were trying to escape from a dog 🤣
Shame the dog was trying to escape from us. Not sure about the dog yet as not been able to contact the fishery but sure it is fine. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors Yeah hope the pooch is ok mate.
Hi Ray. Which hill is that out of interest? Burnfoot?
Hi Richard, it is Ben Shee. Atb
Renegade Scot Thanks Ray got a new winter bag on its way next week and fancy a short trip out. Looked like a nice pitch.
As I am not from that neck of the woods I would recommend checking out Paul Messners channel and see if he can help you. Atb
Someone lost a dog on Andrew Parks video week or so back.
Been a few cases over the last wee while sadly. Atb
