Great to see you back. I look forward to seeing you and the wife travel the cape wrath (assuming she wants to be on camera). I am glad you were able to convince Murray not to wear his banana colored trousers.
Ah...two of my favourite UA-camrs. I nearly bought a Hexpeak, but bottled it and went for a abisko lite 1 instead. Perhaps I should reconsider. Nice spot to pitch!
Good to see you out again Ray and all the better to see you with Murray. I’m a Perth born lad and live in the midlands these days. You and Murray fairly make me think it’s time to come back up the road. Keep up the good work!

Great to have you back, good wee video with superb photography. wish I could have had a tent like that back in my backpacking days. Many thanks for sharing ATB
Good to see you back Ray I gave you a mention to Murray when I met him and his son heading up etive mor glencoe great channel brilliant tips top man 👏👍🙌
Glad to see you taking this tent out Ray - I rate my V4A highly. Don't worry about seam-sealing, I still haven't 6 years on and it's never leaked. I'm told this is because the seams are 'rolled' and not 'butted'. The Luxe inner works fine, but its 600g weight isn't that clever. I use a 400g Ali inner instead. Alcohol tip: Forget the heavy tins of beer and take a cask-strength malt (typically 55%-60% alcohol bv). This means you carry a third less weight than regular (40%) whisky. It's not meant to be consumed neat - just dilute with water to your preferred drinking strength at camp. Carry it in a lightweight drinks pouch - mine weighs 10g and will hold 35cl which is half a bottle, equivalent to three-quarters of a bottle at normal drinking strength. Liquid alcohol weighs less by volume than water, so the carried weight of the full flask is 316g - not bad for the equivalent of three-quarters of a bottle of Scotch and less than a single can of beer. Plus less getting up to pee through the night. Thank me later.
Just found your channel Ray, courtesy of watching you and Murray on your adventures. Superb content and have even bought myself one of the Optimus windshields that I saw you using. Looks ideal for my set up. I also live local to the Ochils and like yourself have kind of ignored them in search of bigger hills. Your vlogs have inspired me to get the backpack on and start exploring them. As you say, 20 mins from your front door beats a 2hrs drive, especially if you are just out for the night. Thanks for sharing your adventures 👌
Hi Ray, it's great to see you out wild camping. It was fab catching up with you in person at Beinglas campsite in July. It's fab chatting about gear, especially tents with yourself and my two brothers. We had the custom made Trekkertents and were absolutely shattered after a long day. Take care and keep up the great vids. Pete
Always thought that looked a good shelter Ray. Jimmy used it when we did the Rob Roy Way. I'm very happy with me scarp 1.Great stuff as usual regards to Dawn.
Hi Ray.. Great video. I absolutely love my V4A and have used it many times. Unfortunately, i damaged the door 😢 cant seen to find a replacement outer anywhere. I remember you used to be able to buy them separately. Atb Mike
Great video (as always) and that sunrise was some intense orange action, brilliant! I almost went for the HexPeak after seeing how well it held up in Scott's wind test but opted for the Sierra Designs High Route for the height it offered. Seeing your last shot on this one I now understand where the cairn with the plaque is. I saw one as you crest over towards Glencoe Ski centre when I did the WHW recently and wrongly thought it was the one with the plaque. It did get me a bit higher to have a great view over Rannoch Moor. Excellent stuff as always and looking forward to seeing how the HexPeaks do in winter.
Beautiful video Ray...always look forward to what you put out as your filming is so good your attitude to camping blends in well with the amazing relaxing surroundings that you go to...cheers 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Still use my V4 after many years, though it does need re seam sealing. Your right in what you say about pyramid tents though I have my reservations as to how well the inner would cope with fine spindrift
Great vid ray, your my fav youtuber mate love your videos and hikes, bought a mld duomid because of yourself ha, like the took of that tent and especially the weight of it keep up the good work 👍👍
Great review, impressed enough to just buy one even though i am loving my Duomid with my Pretents soloist inner...My Duomid is Orange so this will allow me to be a bit more discreet. Cheers Ray :)
Lovely and accessible place to go but it also feels remote. Good to see you out. If you get the chance try the xmid solid. I've been using it and love the room I have now. It is like 2 tipis joined together. .
Yass, thanks for the shout out! :D Great to see you out again and what can I say, the Hexpeak is a fantastic bit of kit! I look forward to both testing mine in winter conditions and seeing how you get on - I reckon with the size of them, those long winters nights will be a wee bit easier! It's great to hear that you and the Mrs are considering the CWT, that'd be an amazing experience for you both. Thanks again :)
Loved seeing you with Murray, Ray. Great video as always. Loads of people have gone for the MLD Duomid recently (not sure if you started the trend!). This tent looks like a nice alternative. I don’t have a trekking pole tent yet because at 6’3” I’ve always been put off because of inner space. Still, hoping to get one at some point. Cheers mate 🗻
Hi Ray just bought one of these myself second hand. Not had it out properly yet but practice pitched it yesterday and added the panel guys. Followed outlawed landscapes pitching tips actually which were very handy. Heading to fisherfield on Friday and looking forward to using it. Had a duomid years ago and can see the similarities.
@@outlawedlandscapes Have to agree with Richard - have your pitching tips on this saved to my youtube faves - watch whenever I take it out camping up in the mournes with my Collie dog :) Really enjoyed the storm pitch comparison with the wild winds too :)
@Austin Gavins Did someone say Collie!? :D That's fantastic to hear mate, I'm glad it's been a help to you! I'll be back on the mountains in the Hexpeak this weekend hopefully and I aim to do some further weather testing in the future as well. Next big storm and the Hex is getting pitched in the most exposed spot I can find... haha!

I don't usually like trekking pole tents because of my claustrophobia, but without the inner (I might just bring a groundsheet, to stay dry), the footprint of this one looks extremely generous. I just might be able to actually enjoy this.
Love this tent myself - have owned and used for a little over a year now. I use the ASTA Xinxue 2 Person Four Seasons Inner from ali-express in mine. Bit lighter weight - probably not as well made and leaves you with a small porch, but fits myself, Sam (a large collie dog) and wide Big Agnes AirCore Ultra with plenty of space in the inner itself. Requires a bit of footling to get it to fit right, but I am well impressed so far and looking forward to camping up on the tops and maybe as far as the Atlantic coast - come on the winter :)
Pleased to see you out and about Ray and Murray too an added bonus. looks a nice tent, never had a pyramid type tent so am liking that roomy vestibule, excuse my ignorance but why aren't the seams already sealed on some tents? Cheers Ray looking forward to your winter camps.
Hi RTK. The sealing doesnt get done as it needs to be done by hand and takes time which would add to costs. Thats why the likes of Tarptent charge for seam ssealing to be done at the factory as an optional extra. Atb
Great to have you back, always loved your informative videos. What do you think of the revolution race jacket you were wearing. I have recently bought a pair of trousers from revolution race and am very happy with them. That jacket looks good but would appreciate your opinion 😉
If you're after something lighter than beer to port along, but makes for a more leisurely cup than a flask of the brown stuff, then cask wine ("goon", as it call it here Down Under) freed of its box carries very well; the foil bladder weighs next to nothing, + is totally non-rigid in shape, so it's extremely pack-friendly. Of course, since that part of the world isn't exactly known for its wine regions, I don't know if you guys have access to _decent_ cask-wine alongside the bad stuff, as we do here (a winery called Banrock Station makes some very agreeable table-reds, which they do offer under cardboard for the smaller ecological footprint [dunno if this something they still do, but they used to impregnate a section of their boxes with wattle seeds, for planting in the ground once the you're done with it]), but on the off-chance that you do, I figured it was worth a mention. Great to see you back out Ray. Really interested to see how you get on with this shelter in the coming months! It does look like out of the box, it needs a few mods but you are already onto them. Will have to bring us back in a few months for a longer term review 👍
What do I NOT love about this tent? - It’s weight. I’m 6ft1in and the inner is really at the limit for my height. The inner feels space-wise comparable to a Lanshan 1 Pro. But now come all the things I love about it. Storms, massive downpours, winter summit camps. No other tent I would have wanted to be in. I can happily spend 15h in winter in the tent. Try that in an ultra-lightweight tent. Drop down the inner and it feels like a palace. Cooking, reading, getting changed. All fine. Downpour in the morning? No problem. You have enough space inside to roll up your mat and pack your entire rucksack in the dry. In the end, get out, take the outer down, shake it and attach it to the outer of your rucksack. I haven’t used mine since May but it will come out in a few weeks again. It’s overkill and too heavy on a long-distance summer hike. When the nights get longer, colder and wetter, I don’t want to miss the comfort and safety of this tent.
How does it go for wind resistance while an occupant is lying down? I confess that those high fabric panels on the inner there look very well designed to offset the natural draft coming up under the gap at the base of the outer walls.
