We personally haven't had any issues with them getting hot and causing issues. We used them snorkeling underwater for the full battery life without a break until they died on a recent trip and they're still functioning well.
These ones seems to be the best alternative out there based on the reviews. Most of the negative ones seems to be from faulty ones that don't work from the start (affiliate): amzn.to/3DG0N3J

The battery you linked to says it is not compatible with hero 8 to hero 12. I can't even find a hero8 battery on their amazon page.
