the match between soulkey and snow was one of those that makes brood war eternal. It looked like soulkey was ahead all time and he was but he could have very easily still lost to snow's incredible patience. He overcomitted a few times and he was veryyy close to mine out
Well I just realized I had no idea how Defensive matrix worked. I thought it reduced damage to 1 for each hit for a full 60 seconds my entire life. Turns out it's a 250 HP shield that leaks 1hp every hit until it runs out or loses all its hp.
I don't think it's 250. more like 50. also it does leak more than 1 hp per hit, depending on the unit shooting it. 6-7 tanks will still one shot a unit defended with matrix

That's part of why we love this game, honestly. Every player is genuinely convinced his race is the weakest and the others have unfair advantages, and you can tell in a couple of seconds which caster plays which race.
What would Snow have had to do vs Soulkey? Snow messed up not mining gas, his storm drops were ineffective (no shuttle speed), what else though? Soulkey seems like such a monster in macro ZvP and ZvT.

This last game must have been frustrating for Yoon. He was in a good position, landed many good hits - especially with the Mutalisks sniping probes and templars… And he lost anyway. Sometimes, your opponent is just too strong. He probably should have quickly transitioned into defilers, while Snow was relatively contained due to lacking storms. On the other hand, I really liked Soulkey's performance. Good macro, decisive micro with the queens / defilers, impeccable decision-making… If he keeps playing like that, this may be Soulkey's year.
My conclusion for that game is that, even though his job cutting the templar count was amazing, his hydra splitting was pretty terrible (for that level). There are also minor details that add up pretty fast, like not leaving a scourge couple to try to deny shuttles or panicking for a 2 zealot drop. Soulkey in that regard was on point.
You can't just "transition into defilers", queen's nest + hive + mound + consume takes a long time. Once he sniped the templar, either going for the attack or taking a fourth was reasonable, I think.

I wish we'd see more interesting unit composition. I know these are pros and all but it would be more of a surprise. Like, when you're getting harassed by Mutas you could rip those things to shreds with Valkyrie but instead they'd rather do the little dance with the goliath. Any game that see's a Queen appearance is a thumbs up by me.
1-1-1 has pretty big issues. Valks dont protect you from ling floods and they are vulnerable to scourge, and they are buggy as well. It is a decently used build still. Szak also went 2 port wraith the first game but he lost quite hard
Artosis is tired of saying that valks need heavy micro to fire and walk, because it's the only way of keeping it alive from mutas. Also it costs a shit ton of money, so yeah, it will definetely not rip it to shreds.
Forces hydras without range to kill the buildings in front in order to hit the cannons (they can barely hit if they get up super close, but they won't all be able to fire). With range, the hydras have to stand in a more commited position to hit the cannons, making it easier to storm or hit them with scarabs.
Crazy games, specially the third one! I always wonder about carrier efectiveness vs ZvP in the Ultra late game. Tasteless always says that they are useless, but by that point you have reavers and storms to zone hydras as well as maelstrom and corsairs for the scourges. Maybe what really hold them back is that you should not need them for anything except attacking turtled bases, thus the support needed for them is not worth it.

carriers are way too expensive. you need 3 gases to pump 4 stargates at a time and if you do so you don't have templars to defend expos. If you pump only 2 stargates (like u see in pvt) you don't have critical mass and Z can easily take them down with scourges. This is why carriers are never seen in zvp at pro level
A 4 supply unit that comes out of the Robo Facility, you need Robo Bay to be able to make them. They are extremely slow but they shoot at lengthy range, high damage and splash. They use an ammo called Scarab. Scarabs costs 15 minerals and take 4 seconds to build. Because they are way too slow, players use Shuttles to move it around to harass worker lines and break Lurker lines. They are usable in the LotV campaign and in Co-op with commander Artanis, although they are way faster and you can replenish Scarabs automatically the sc2 versions.
yeah its a good time for zerg right now. the rotation ever turns. im hoping for a terran revival in the next few months but they were on top not to long ago.

On online games Flash has beaten Queen as Protoss, so I don't think he's too bad. And as Zerg, the best I've seen him is against Rain when he was playing.

They are hard countered by Defilers. A plague on the interceptors will make a carrier unable to attack.
