This makes sense. I often feel like INTJs shouldn't have a big problem with procrastination, and yet I do. Although, if an INTJ gives their self multiple options, aren't they likely to already know which one they'll pick? 😊. My problem is I tend to procrastinate things that I honestly don't want to do...ever...at all. Things that aren't part of my vision but I must do them or consequences will follow. So it's hard to get psyched up or come to terms with doing them, because I don't feel accomplished after I do them anyway- those stupid repetitive things in life. BTW when you gave the popcorn example it reminded me of some things you said in one of your vegan videos- I see a connection there 😉
Sometimes it is not procrastination...it is the inevitable calculation of infinite possibilities on how to solve a simple problem. 🤦♂️ If I could use, which I am learning, a fraction of that calculation time and power...I am unstoppable.
I think my main problem is getting past that "I don't feel like it" phase. Ok I'll do that. Tomorrow I'm going to practice the piano. I'll do it even if I don't feel like it.
I'd say that a good way to start implementing this concept would be to make your desired path ("popcorn and water") as convenient for yourself as possible. If you want to start a running habit, put your running clothes and shoes either in a place where you'd be likely to want to put them on (or a place where they'd be impossible to avoid -- I put mine on my closed toilet seat overnight so I have to look at them, pick them up, and move them over if I want to go to the bathroom in the morning). If you want to curb impulsive spending, ditch your cards and start carrying cash everywhere. If you want to eat healthy, stop buying junk food and do whatever prep work necessary to have pre-cleaned and chopped veggies in your fridge. If you're someone who's more likely to give into the more comfortable or available option, work with that part of yourself and not against it by doing the work to make sure your convenient options are the most in alignment with your desired path.
I’m an ENFP, I’ve struggled with this probably my whole life. Although I already know what I should do, I love hearing an INTJ’s perspective. I appreciate this ! Thank you!!!
This method definitely works for main NI users. In one of your previous videos you actually briefly mentioned something like "To focus on 'my Thing' i just give myself no other options" and when i heard that, i have decided to consciously implement this and it really works for me! :) (so thanks). But for main NE users... i am not sure this will actually work (also not saying it will not work - just unsure). I have ENTP friend and what i noticed about him is that when he hears (or self realises) something like "You have no more options..." there is 50/50 chance he will enter "panic mode" that will lead him either/and to: - artificially focusing on generating more options, - avoiding the only few options he has, - make excuses why he is not picking any of the limited options, - postponing finding the solution with approach "this is problem for myself of tomorrow" - or do other random chaos thing. Instead it seems that best system for him to "focus on something and make progress" is simulating something like this: you have infinite(!) number of options for today: 1. Focus on Main Thing 2. Do a random thing A 3. Focus on Main Thing 4. Do a random thing B 5. Focus on Main Thing 6. Do a random thing C ... Now pick a random number and do it today. This way he is still putting a lot of time and effort to make progress in something he wants to accomplish but is not limiting his options at all :). I wonder if few ENTPs or ENFPs could give feedback on this method...
This is a really good way to look at it. Challenging with ADHD, that really messes with this- there's always something more immediately rewarding or stimulating to do than the predetermined task.
I've learned a lot this past year about how your general unconscious behavior affects your thinking patterns a lot more than you realize. Your everyday thoughts and patterns are what truly program your subconscious mind. Learning to calm your mind when you're angry, frustrated, or overthinking literally rewires your neurons for your body to be more calm and collected in stressful situations. When you're distressed about something you shouldnt be, say to yourself there's no logical reason to be upset and you will begin to calm down.
I'm an INFJ and I offer myself too many possibilities and my behavior shows a lack of punctuality. However, tonight I tackled organizing my fabric cubes into more sensible categories; I obsess about streamlined organization and yet tend to put it off. I said "no" to two offers from friends and my mind wanting to play and immerse myself in the game Assassin's Creed. I knew I'd be working 32 hours over the weekend and recalled how much I longed for the organization the past month. And how I wouldn't even be able to enjoy my game with the nagging in the back of my mind. So I tell myself, yes, there's other things to do, but it basically can burn lol. This is the thing to do now and I want it the most right now, ultimately. It is done and was also a good stress relief. Also, I have been smart enough to use grocery store pick up options. Just want to say that I wouldn't have found this video if I wasn't procrastinating 🤭 Now as to my thoughts, I think it would be very difficult for me to follow this method. The problem with the prison analogy is that there's no choice: you eat or you die. In real life its not that simple...there's no harsh consequences for not sticking to the plan, and you're not taking into account potential distractions that can derail you from your plan.

If there are infinite parallel universes and timelines, picture the best timeline out of all of them, set that as your goal and only give yourself one option: make your timeline the best timeline possible. Which includes stopping procrastinating :P
I just finished watching two of your videos and as a INTJ I am very impressed by your accuracy I actually laughed multiple times because it was so accurate. I have never really heard from any one else with my personality type and how they see the world and people. I find it reassuring I am not alone in my personality and way of thinking. So thank you for your work I appreciate it. Please continue to update your work as It is informative to understanding my self and how others see me and how I can grow to over come my weaknesses in my personality.
I will, and thank you Trevor. When I found typology I had the same exact reaction. Now the true INTJs who make it to my channel also all have the same response. It’s so crazy to see from my end. But knowing that somebody else out there understands us, knows what our mind is like, and to hear our own language spoken by them, is so valuable.
This video is really helpful, the way I am approaching procrastination is always the stress from school. Like deadlines. Which is pretty passive. Also, it is really great to have people like you to share the strategy to cope with procrastination so that I am not alone in this. I have a question for you. I understand you saying Ti and Fi are introverted deciders. I resonate with that a lot because i am Ni and Fi. But what is your opinion about introverted sensing as dominating function. Are they also introverted deciders and procrastinate a lot? Because my uncle is one and he is really different from me.
The main reason for procrastination is you are redefining the system to be perfect. You should be thinking in binary. whether you show up or not. That's it. Even if you are creating files on your system it seems like a huge task. Folders shouldn't have to be perfect. The system must organically evolve.
So many times I've wanted to smash my phone because of how much it distracts me from doing.... anything. The constant easy access to all kinds of information and stupid stupid stupidity. 😬😬I love/hate my phone 😬😬...emotions🤔🤔🤔
This is the way! However, watch out for individuals in your life, often important to you, who want to disrupt your one option for their interests, especially if they strongly provide your second best or weakness options. Sometimes the only option is to remove them from your life, sometimes that isn't a realistic (but always possible!) option for you presently.
But how do we know what we are doing consistently is the right thing to be doing if we don't explore the options! (gut reaction from NeTi) In truth we need to find times to reflect on our options and take it seriously in those moments, rather than doing it constantly in the moment. I find this kind of thing very difficult though because as soon as I've discovered a new pattern I want to put it into practice to test it out. Establishing a recurring period to consider these ideas or building up discipline to at least put it aside when you are trying to move into action seems the best route.
Thanks for making this video, I think it is a unique and helpful take on how to approach it. I had a question, do you think INTJ's procrastinate much (at least given that they would be naturally inclined to do the "one-option" strategy that you are suggesting), and if so, what does an INTJ that is procrastinating look like?
Great question! So I allow myself buffer time to procrastinate "doing" the sensory. I may have all the parts laid out, or for example, the framework of 2-4 videos planned/written. But now I have to actually move and film it?! Ughhhhh I don't want to move, and talk, and be exciting lol. So I give myself some time to be a little bitch about it, but once that time is passed, I have trained myself to move. As much as it kills me.
Great advice that I know I won't take to my detriment. p.s the peace or victory sign has the palm of your hand facing outwards. the reverse is an English sign a bit like your American middle finger.
I don't know if I'm an INTJ with a procrastination problem or an INTP. Also I have no goals lately: I had two some years ago, but one I accomplished it and the other seems so dead.
I seem to have an aversion to strict schedules, to maintain a sense of freedom, I also complain about wasting time doing chores, but watching youtube is not wasting time? :P If I really want to do something I'll do it through to completion, this is good advice, perhaps I can achieve more by starting more by giving myself less options.. rather than thinking of something and then not starting, if I get started then It may lead down a thread to completion... Thanks LiJo "Less really is more"

I like how you talk of training the brain. Do you have concern about the mind becoming too good at consistency and discipline, at the expense of becoming less and less able to entertain possibilities? Because there are definitely other times in life where that is super helpful and an ExxP may not be around lol.
" I hate Plan B...Because Plan B becomes a safety net it says that if I fail, I have something else there that will protect me. And that’s not good. Because people perform better when there is no safety net." Arnold Schwarzenegger
I'm consistent in getting up at the same time everyday, taking baths on certain days, and doing all chores early. I procrastinate when it comes to entertainment. For example I might say "I'm going to play a video game today" or "I'm going to draw a picture" but sometimes I just don't do it. I like drawing and playing video games but sometimes I just can't get myself to start.
@@dhisufiroafrozenseraphimdragon ahh okay that's a little more precise, I thought you were meaning you lack consistency on a daily basis. I usually procrastinate when I feel like I'm running out of time during certain situations, especially if I have to use Se during those moments. For example wanting to talk to friends more but I decide not to, I want to converse more with my friends but I take months to get back with them. I usually text them once a month or two and then ghost them for awhile, some people I ghost for 6 months or so. Also researching evidence to prove the theories I ponder about for months is true or not. Having my time wasted is much pretty a stressful feeling

Just want to say that I wouldn't have found this video if I wasn't procrastinating 🤭
Now as to my thoughts, I think it would be very difficult for me to follow this method. The problem with the prison analogy is that there's no choice: you eat or you die. In real life its not that simple...there's no harsh consequences for not sticking to the plan, and you're not taking into account potential distractions that can derail you from your plan.
I would be content with popcorn and water. It's my favorite snack.
But to what end Bryce.... to what end... lol
damn.... cant wait to watch this one as its SUPER relevant... been putting off getting my CDL for my job for months because im scared to take a test... but yet im perfectly fine with flying in a helicopter, couple feet away from the highest voltage powerlines that exist, below tree top level, on the side of a mountain... hahaha
OH MY GOODNESS HAHA ahhh
please fly safely, if not for you then for the helicopter
If there are infinite parallel universes and timelines, picture the best timeline out of all of them, set that as your goal and only give yourself one option: make your timeline the best timeline possible. Which includes stopping procrastinating :P
Thank you. This explanation really helped to wrap my mind around this :)
Exactly!
healthy habit building, more simply put.
Yup, whatever you want to call it 😉
I just finished watching two of your videos and as a INTJ I am very impressed by your accuracy I actually laughed multiple times because it was so accurate.
I procrastinate watching this video :)
im very consistent at Procrastinating, un matched
So many times I've wanted to smash my phone because of how much it distracts me from doing....
anything. The constant easy access to all kinds of information and stupid stupid stupidity.
😬😬I love/hate my phone 😬😬...emotions🤔🤔🤔
Hahah yes I get that
This is the way! However, watch out for individuals in your life, often important to you, who want to disrupt your one option for their interests, especially if they strongly provide your second best or weakness options. Sometimes the only option is to remove them from your life, sometimes that isn't a realistic (but always possible!) option for you presently.
Ahh yes the humans. Luckily I am pretty good at ignoring them.
But how do we know what we are doing consistently is the right thing to be doing if we don't explore the options! (gut reaction from NeTi)
In truth we need to find times to reflect on our options and take it seriously in those moments, rather than doing it constantly in the moment.
I find this kind of thing very difficult though because as soon as I've discovered a new pattern I want to put it into practice to test it out.
Establishing a recurring period to consider these ideas or building up discipline to at least put it aside when you are trying to move into action seems the best route.
I love your outtakes and you threw up the peace sign better the second time
Thanks for making this video, I think it is a unique and helpful take on how to approach it.
Lol, love the bloopers xD great video
Thank you!
But watching UA-cam videos about the thing I need to do is way more enjoyable!!
Hahah balance banana babe!
Great advice that I know I won't take to my detriment. p.s the peace or victory sign has the palm of your hand facing outwards. the reverse is an English sign a bit like your American middle finger.
Hahah oh wow!
I think i might ask for the Mediterranean food. 😬👀
Thanks LiJo "Less really is more"
They say it it the thought that counts, what they do not tell you though is which one. lol
I'm pretty sure forward and backward mean different things with the peace sign, but I don't know what they are in particular.
Lol we are both like “sensory whatever” on that one
@@InternetLiJo Pretty much XD
Okay new decision: I'll procrastinate to procrastinate.
Just gotta take another round of Escape from Tarkov... oh look at that! Oh why not run out and wrestle bears in the woods? Can take that meeting tomorrow after tomorrows morrow... - ENFP
I like how you talk of training the brain. Do you have concern about the mind becoming too good at consistency and discipline, at the expense of becoming less and less able to entertain possibilities? Because there are definitely other times in life where that is super helpful and an ExxP may not be around lol.
I am consistent by default, I have to practice chaos... to achieve balance. It’s all important!
@@InternetLiJo Ah I get it. Okay. I wonder if for me it's situational whether I should practice chaos or discipline because I see both in me.
Wow. No comments 👏👏
Btw, Is that... Lindsay making a new intro? 👀👌 I like it a lot :)
Thanks Valerie!! Yeah the intro I think I like but it feels a bit long idk 😬 I might have a variation or just keep it.
@@InternetLiJo I don't mind any of those 🤷
Idk Lindsey, promising to do X _tomorrow_ usually puts X off indefinitely. Because on the next day you make the same promise.
But then tomorrow becomes today and you have to do it every day :)

I have something else there that will protect me.
And that’s not good.
Because people perform better when there is no safety net."

More Stoicism... (not complaining, just noticing the commonality)
It does seem to be a trend for me...
I'm an INTJ and I fail at remaining consistent, I'm just fine without very detailed plans about my daily life.
Maybe you're intp
Do you finish your plans?
Are you sure you're an INTJ
Before watching this video I thought #greedy would appear at some point :)
Lmao 😂💯
Did LiJo just mastered stawless drinking this way? xD
I can consistently spill anything. Is that what you mean? 😉
@@InternetLiJo Yes, but if you didin't give yourself this "beverage-spilling-option" that day, it means that your method works!
Thank you Lijo, you understand me but this my Facebook and contact you Teguera Adams.
Hey adams I don't really use facebook. You can send me an email at cloudtogroundcreative@gmail.com
I see ti ta vido thank you, I'm here for you to.😉
your videos are over-exposed it hurts my eyes every time.
I’m sorry. I’m still new to this video stuff. I hope to have a better setup in the future.
