I just received my Easterly Winds a few days ago. Fantastic! I did not notice anything off with the left channel, although I had to listen at a lower volume. I'll be listening to it at about 80db this weekend, though, and I'll definitely keep an ear out for any issues.
@@Jackgrahamphotograph it was a great episode I really liked the albums you pulled out, I put that Kenny Drew one on my want list! Bob Berg is a killer player and I love his early stuff!
Great video again Man. Clarence Johnston was, most of time, misspelled as Clarence Johnson ! It's the same drummer. He was a very great drummer. In 1971, he decided to move to LA and be a mentor a thousands of students at Grant's Music School. He was revered by his pairs and musicians as a fantastic one and Master professor. It's a big shame that he didn't record that much but played a lot on thousands of gigs. He was born in 1925 and died very old in 2019 !! I met him a few times in the 90's in LA, great gret guy, great teacher, great story teller too ! About Jack Wilson Easterly Winds, I have the original and the 1984 japanese reissue, this last one sounds fantastic, as the original sounds good but very far away not on the same level as the japanese one. My favourite album of Jack is "Something Personal" (that was his too by the way), much better than this one, to my taste. Great pianist. Kenny Drew did dozens of great albums in Japan, almost not known by most of the people, a lot of great trios, with NHOP, Ed Thigpen and then with Alvin Queen ! Killer Trio, from 1980 to 1993, he did about 40 albums !!! Another great of course is Roger Kellaway, almost never mentionned but what a TOP player and a great arranger - composer too !
Again…thanks for the additional info…soooooooo many great under appreciated players…There’s a great Zoot video onYT that I think he plays on…so good!,, JG
At 10:50, Joey Baron! When I was going to see live jazz a lot during the 90s and 2000s Joey Baron was my number one favorite drummer. He’s mostly known for playing with people like John Zorn (especially the Masada quartet albums), Bill Frisell, Dave Douglas, Steve Kuhn, etc. Joey can do super high energy exciting playing as easily as sensitive delicate playing. His drumming always reminded me of Shelly Manne in a way. That 1979 Jack Wilson date would have been a pretty early date in Joey’s career. I hope this helps!
Great to see you back in action Jack! Sorry that you had to pause your breakdancing career, but with your health back on track, I expect a dance off in your future, sir! Bad jokes aside, glad to hear you are on the mend. ✌🏻
So glad you're getting better. I can't believe MoFi is even allowed by Sony/CBS/Columbia to add reverb to a classic Miles Davis record! What kind of "audiophile" mentality is that? I seem to have more copies of "Seven Steps" than any other record in my collection. How did I accumulate five copies??? I guess I just really like it, so I keep buying it whenever I come across a copy. I have several early (two-eye, stereo & mono) and 1970s pressings (orange lettering) in pretty good shape, but I agree with you about the Acoustic Sounds. It has all the clarity, warmth and presence I could ever want!
Jack, that Kenny Drew album is fantastic. This group is smoking. Such a great mix of older players like Drew and Thad with youngsters like Bob Berg. I've got to get that. Thanks for sharing.
I just came down with the same muscle control situation. I have an appointment with Neurology. I hope it wasnt from the Covid shot. Hope you are feeling better!!!
Robbie, What a drag.. I have www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/myasthenia-gravis/symptoms-causes/syc-20352036 I am on an medication now until I get to the Neurologist in a week or so. I know a few people who have this and with proper treatment, its under control. I didn't even know they had it... I hope your Dr is a good one... I am told that you need someone who understands this condition well.... best of luck---at least we have our music!--Keep me posted--I'll do the same ( email is Jack@jackgrahamphoto.com) --JG
Why are MoFi’s not liked very much. Are they digitally sourced?😮I love Easterly Winds I have a good original. I have to get that Trend record. I have the one with the blue cover. I love his Jack Wilson Quartet on Atlantic when he had Roy Ayers with him. At that time he really loved the sound of George Shearings group with unison vibes and piano! Jack Wilson’s album tribute to Henry Mancini is also nice and understated. I have all his albums except for that Trend album you have. On my want list! Love your channel and appreciate your knowledge!
Thanks for watching… some MoFIs are quite good.. my Sinatra at the Sands is great…and Most of the Mikes Davis reissues are quite good…This one t😊youth has added reverb that differs from the OG… and for me doesn’t represent the music. Some will like it I am sure but why mess with the great music and sound that has been enjoyed over the years. Again it’s just my feelings and may not represent others. Thanks again for the comment and for watching…JG
First vid of yours I've seen and I found it interesting and informative. I've never seen that Miles Seven Steps....never come across it but I will keep my eyes open for it. Oh and awesome T-shirt, where did u find it? 👍
Glad you're feeling better! Do you have views on particular instruments in jazz that you don't like? For example, for some reason the flute gets on my nerves. I bought Wynton Kelly's Kelly Blue album, because I like him as a pianist, but Bobby Jaspar's flute rather ruins some of the tracks for me.
I like Lateef and even James Moody ( with Dizzy's quintet) on Flute, but I agree ..some can get on my nerves---There some jazz oboe that is in the same category too (Lateef played a little)... just not swinging... never was a Herbie Mann guy...Did you know that Mitch Miller played the oboe in the orchestra that back up Bird on his Strings album? Thanks for watching! JG
Welcome back Jack. I Missed you. Hope for your full recovery and i wish you the best
Greetings from Good Old Europe. You‘re such a great guy.

Great to see you, Jack. Excellent episode. Would love to see a Sweets video.
Might do my top 10 ( will be tough) sweets records!--JG
Prez and Sweets! 1955 or 56. So good!
Ben and Sweets is amazing!!! Beautiful playing, George Duvivier on bass is the unsung hero on that album
Georges resume is amazing---more folks should know how great of a player he is. Thanks for watching and for the comment!!--JG

You have a lot of time left, just found you. Keep it up. Go Vols
Gotcha--I akm an Indiana U grad( do they even have a FB team)..but have adopted the Vols!!!!
That Ben Webster & "Sweets" Edison album was released on CD as ''Ben And Sweets''.

My copy of the Tone Poet Easterly Winds sounds great on both sides, no muffling on either side or channel. Rare poor RTI pressing perhaps?
what I am thinking--I'll return it
Bob berg and miles davis .
I would assume they do not add reverb to 7 Steps, it might be more detail. They might work on the EQ, but not such things as reverb.
what ever it is its audile and not like the original!--horrible!--JG
