    Had the same problem with mine. I called S&W and the guy I talked to was great. He told me once you load the mag smack it against something hard to seat the rounds. Just like you would on your metal AR mags. Never had a problem after seating the rounds in the mags.

      100% that is always my argument. Shouldn't say a gun can hold a certain amount if we have to shoot 500 rounds before it can actually do it. Investing in a machine that flexes springs can't be that complicated.

      I really wanted a 5.7 too and I have had a very difficult time even getting the mag into the gun itself. I have to literally slam it inside because it does not want to go in and each time I do that it slightly damages the round. Like small dents and things... So I am not certain if it is supposed to be like that or not.

    With mine I left both mags fully loaded with fn blue box(ss197sr) for about 2-3 days before going to range and had no issues, currently on my 4th range trip and tried some fiochi,american eagle, and aac offerings all ran fine, the American eagle didn't seem to have the coating in the case that the others do

    I had the same problem, but I run my guns through 1000s of rounds and after doing so with the 5.7, it runs like better now. Even loading the mag is no longer a pain in the ass where as when it was new it was a BEAR to get all 22 in it. For mine the breakin period was about 150 rounds. It's my favorite handgun and I own a LOT of them. It's literally replaced my 9mm EDC after the breakin worked out all the kinks. No more having to really slap the mag, hard loading mags, nor OOB issues. It's a tackdriver to boot.

    I want to like the S&W, but I have had two FNH’s for about 8 or 10 years now and I have never had to force a mag in and have NEVER had any fail to feeds or ejects. Nothing. It just runs. My only gripe is that I’m not crazy about the safety location and the barrel isn’t threaded. Other than that, they just work reliably and are very accurate. I believe the FN’s are the better guns overall, but people want to hate them because they cost way more

    • @Bristecom
      @Bristecom Рік тому +1

      I also have an FN FiveseveN Mk2 and only had one malfunction with 27 grain FN blue box. However, with the rental, it would often FTE after the first round with every type of ammo. I've heard they need to be cleaned well from the factory due to grease. But as long as you keep it fairly clean and maybe avoid the lower power FN 27 grain blue box stuff, it should be reliable enough. I personally just like the look and feel and quality of the FN FiveseveN vs the others but for sure, the PSA and S&W have some advantages for a lower price. I haven't shot those yet but I shot the Ruger and definitely didn't like it as much as the FN.

      I think the quality of FN’s 57 is tested, decades long use in military and is on like it’s third generation. However you must admit M&Ps also have a good track record and their 5.7 offers much more at a much cheaper price.

    • @Colonel1Bravo
      @Colonel1Bravo 9 місяців тому +1

      @@BLINC606 I do agree with you that the price point/ value for the money is very good for the S&W, plus I think the model has a lot of very good innovation in it. It just appears to have a few quirks that has turned me off for now. I will also say that as much as I like FNH products, their customer service has never impressed me (I really never needed it but just the same they should be better). I would pick the FN if money wasn’t the issue, but if all I had was the smith, I’m sure I would like it to.

    One other thing is the red. You chose the CYLEE read. You chose I believe weighs 1.4 Oz. They talk about not using red dots the way over 1 oz and if you do you're going to expect to have cycling issues/out of battery issues because the slide is cut for a certain weight and again if you read the fine print it says specifically not to use any red. The ways over one oz. That's also true for the Ruger 57 is to not use a red. That weighs over one oz or 28 G 29 G somewhere in that range. Now the company that makes the red. You used have a 1-oz sized red. But I don't know that yours is the Pro cat version. The hollow sun 507 k X2 is a 1 oz Red Dot Green Dot that has a 2 MOA reticle with a ring around that. That I think is 32 MOA which is sometimes referred to as the ring of death but having that fine point that 2 MOA Red Dot gives you a very precise point of impact which gives you a lot further range an accuracy out of the gun assuming you don't have old man eyes. LOL. But you got to watch the weight of your red. It does make a real and noticeable difference if you run one that's too heavy and I've made that mistake before so I can speak from experience.

    Unboxed my new S&W 5.7 for initial inspection, cleaning and lubricating. Was shocked to find serious corrosion around the barrel in the area of the gas port and first flute !! Not only was there corrosion but the protective outer finish was removed/missing!I used standard cleaning methods using gun cleaner and a nylon brush. Also used an inspection magnifying loupe and sure enough it was significant corrosion! I never fired it because of the reported higher barrel pressures of the 5.7! Returned the gun to FFL where I purchased it to send in T Smith & Wesson. Has anyone who purchased a new S&W 5.7 experienced this!

      Indeed. Had the same exact issue. Came home, unboxed it, filled up the magazine, and it was having chambering problems / issues with fully closing the tempo twist barrel. Figured, ah, it just needs cleaned and lubed up a little. Broke it down, and immediately noticed that the inside of the barrel was pretty damn dirty, and in the exact some spot on the barrel that you noted, near the gas port, was dirty and corroded as well. So much so that I showed my girlfriend, which I know she doesn’t give 2 shits about.

      I noticed this same thing on mine, but it was after a couple of trips to the range. I had field stripped it, cleaned it, lubed it before I took it to the range. Barrel was fine. After the Two trips, I noticed corrosion around the gas port. That said, I have never had a single failure to feed on mine. That's firing multiple types of ammo, including sub and supersonic from my rugged oculus 22 can. There are definitely seat issues with the mags, though. Really have to slap that thing in there on a closed slide!

  • @lawrencemay8726
    @lawrencemay8726 Рік тому +1

    One other comment is, as I look at your gun and where the cam pieces where the barrel shroud in the barrel meet, you do know you were supposed to completely strip that is to field strip it to clean it but you're supposed to strip it and clean it before you ever fire it because they add a almost like a grease like a Vaseline type stuff smeared and took some of the cam parts on the barrel and barrel shroud so in shipping it doesn't have any chance of any corrosion or moisture and might even shipped with a oil paper saturated wax paper stuff that a lot of machine tool stuff comes wrapped up in for the same reason because it's got oil and pregnate it in this paper and it helped preserve metal even metal that's got a oxide finish and shouldn't be rusting anyway you'll still see this kind of paper used to pack metal stuff. But it looks like in the close-up of your gun when you showed us your site that you put on it your red dot, it looks like you can still see that donkey or thicker oil / grease that came on the gun and that very well could be slowing your action and operation of the gun down. It actually says do not pull the gun out and use it right away you must break it down to field strip it and clean every bit of that crap off and it emphasizes to lightly oil this gun. Because it's gas operated you cannot use lots of oil on this gun. Please check to make sure you cleaned it and be honest with everybody here because if you didn't clean it exactly as they say you'll have problems. It talks about you do not want that lubricant they put on the gun for packing and shipping and all that to end up being used when you shoot it cuz it'll dunk up and get even more dirty and nasty if you don't clean that s*** out of there and put in some really nice oil-like ballistol or some other cleaner pops or whatever you choose CLP, or something like slip 2000 is a decent product. Also Lucas makes a mil-spec synthetic oil lubricant for handguns well all guns. But you need to use a very light light oil and not a ton of it

    Following up on my comments after the first video on the 5.7, after finally getting to put a few hundred rounds through mine. I did not experience any issues while firing full magazines but I suspect this is likely because of the loading/unloading tests that I did when discovering this issue initially.
    That said, I have one magazine that can be fully loaded by hand without issue. The other magazine (the one that exhibited the initial problems when loading more than 16 rounds) remained very hard to hand load to full capacity... increase in resistance occurring around 14 rounds and becoming very hard to load by 18 rounds without the loader. That said, if I load that magazine to full capacity, I can fire all 22 rounds without issue.

    There has been ongoing issues with all platforms cycling the American Eagle ammo and AAC ammo. The FN ammo is in general better when cycling through the pistols. The problem that you could be having is with the gun coming from the manufacturer being pretty dirty. At least mine was when I first got it. The pistols do need frequent cleaning especially with range time.

      @@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 Be careful "slamming" a full magazine into the gun with the slide closed you may be damaging some of the internals and causing the slide battery problem. On some guns this procedure can break things such as the ejector. When you have emptied a magazine the slide stays open and you don't have any problems loading the next magazine, why don't you start off the same way - slide open?

      @@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 Sorry, no offense intended. I too have the M&P 5.7 and had problems loading the magazines, but a quick mag. disassembly and a fine layer of oil smeared on the inside mag. walls solved the loading problems. I have yet to shoot the gun so I can't comment on other issues. The S&W manual of arms page 19 does say this about loading the magazine into the gun though. "Do not use excessive upward force when inserting a loaded magazine into the pistol. Excessive upward force could cause the slide to move forward chambering a round and making the pistol ready to fire". This suggests that the slide should be open when inserting the magazine. Just passing this on in the hope that it will help others who may read my comments. Thanks, and I enjoy your videos.

    The M&P will never be reliable with 22 rounds in the mag. The M&P 57 magazine is .25" shorter than the Ruger 57 20 round mag and .24" shorter than the FN57 20 round mag but the S&W holds TWO MORE ROUNDS! S&W achieves this by a much shorter follower and much weaker mag spring

    The problem with every single 57 pistol oh, and I don't mean non-host Rubble pistols I mean like a pistol that looks like a pistol you put in a holster not like a banshee or a diamondback or one of those technical pistols but looks more like a PDW. But as far as pistols go they all have a problem with using too heavy or Red Dot. Even Ruger flat-out says do not use a red. That weighs over one oz or you'll have cycling problems due to the weight of the slide and the spring strength. You have a big red dot on that gun. I guarantee if you switched over to a lighter red. Like a hollison 507k X to Green Dot or red, you will have a lot less of those slightly out of battery issues you're having. I own the p50 by Celtic I own a Ruger 57 and I just picked up my Smith & Wesson 57 and I tried the f n before the newest one came out and honestly it was not reliable at all compared to the Ruger. The Ruger has a magazine problem it's worse than any of them except for maybe the Palmetto State Armory 57 but I won't swear to that. But the problem with the Ruger magazines is when they're made they're not quite the right profile and what I mean by that is if you put it on a machinist level, you would notice that from side-to-side it actually bulges a tiny bit when it needs to be put in a vise and cranked where there is no play for the bullets when they're being stacked to move any left or right because if they do it causes the stacking to get loose when you put in the last two or three rounds. But I've taken my Ruger 57 mags in a machinist Vise with a special job that I machine so that you can in a very controlled way, you can actually change the shape slightly by putting the mag in the vice and just putting some pressure to kind of squeeze the bags flatter than they are but you want it to be super subtle you don't want to crank the crap out of it and really destroyed the shape you just need a little bit more of a squeeze to get it to retain the right shape. I know this seems silly but if you try it you'll be amazed how much better it works. I don't know if you've noticed that problem with the 57 but that may be what's going on with your Smith & Wesson although I'm guessing with your Smith & Wesson it's the weight of your red.and not the magazines. In fact the magazines in the Smith & Wesson seem to be made really well. Now I'm not the master of all things guns but I have lots of experience being the I've been a machinist for 32 years. Give me a good background to comment on mechanical issues with guns. When I work with kennametal we work with things a lot higher tolerance than what's found inside of a handgun I promise. So I'm just sharing my experience I'm not saying it's 100% applicable to your situation or anyone reading this. But I've seen no videos except yours about the feeding issues with the Smith & Wesson but there are several videos of the Ruger magazines giving people problems

      Did you make sure it was cleaned b4 you did your 1st box or 2 of ammo through it? Again.. just an observation. As to the Ruger 57, the slight mis-shapen magazine was a real thing. I've stopped the issues in my Ruger by tweaking the shape of the magazines.
      I'll definitely go see your 1st video on that topic. I'm always glad to know of others experiences. It might help me trouble shooting down the road.
      I'm having good luck with my m&p 57 and I feel your frustration with a basically great gun but having 1 annoying issue that can be a deal breaker if you can't sort it out.
      If I have any issues down the road with my m&p 57, I'll share that with you.
