I bought myself a set a year ago, for Christmas. I played with it for about an hour and then put it away, but now I somehow got into lockpicking again and after watching your video I followed your advice to "practice, practice, practice". Well, a few hours later and I can crack that transparent lock immediately and I understand how! Appreciate your guidance and also your patience in creating all these videos.
I tried to order this set based on your review. It was sold out on almost every website. I actually ordered it on Bonanza yesterday. They emailed me today saying they already sold the last one. There was one on eBay for $22 but I didn’t want to wait 3 weeks for shipping. I ended up ordering another nice beginner set, the Southord PXS-14 from the Southord website. After the 10% off coupon for my first order, it was around $25 plus shipping. The Southord comes with 1 more tension wrench and a couple more rakes compared to the Daniu 12pcs set. It also has a double ended tool and a nice leather case that is pocket sized. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase, even though the Daniu was my first choice. Thanks for the review!
I bought this set last year shortly after I started picking. Mine was branded "Honest", but, same set. Very good for the money. In fact, I still frequently use the half diamond from this kit and it's held up pretty well. If you can only spend $20, this is probably as good as it gets. That said, I think the Spirit or Tuxedo set from Sparrows are a better buy at around $40. More expensive, but the quality is much higher.
This was the first set I bought, and I agree with everything good you said about them. The one thing I didn't like about it as a beginner set is the lack of selection of rakes and tensioners. But something similar (especially the lack of top of the keyway tensioners) can be said about almost all cheap "beginner" sets, even those from high end manufacturers.
Thanks for your help, I always was interested in being a locksmith, when I was a kid, many years ago, I took a course at home from Belshaw way before the internet, like fifty years ago! I always install high quality locks in my homes especially that bumping is so easy. I just might buy this set to play around.
my first set from banggoods was decent enough to open most master locks and brinks, they started breaking on the abus 41 series. last i checked its $10 on banggoods and comes with the clear pastic lock, can't go wrong for $10
If I'd start over again I'd suggest a set of quality pics like petersons, perhaps just basic hooks (like standard and gem) in 18 and 25 thousands and a bogota style rake or Southord euro series basic kit. I don't have that many wide locks which makes thinner better for euro locks. However, as a beginner I was quite rough handed and some locks that had room for pics that take more abuse were really usefull. Higher quality picks really make a difference and with cheap picks that have huge rough/sharp edges everywhere it makes it just more difficult for a beginner. A couple hooks and a rake or two is a lot for a beginner trying to perhaps rake some locks and start learning single pin picking. I think most would add a small diamond that has uses in tight spaces but I rarely tend to use one.
Forgot about sparrows, they make nice starter kits of good quality too. After checking out those three one has also tried out all major handle types/sizes. Most other manufacturers are more or less similar to any of these although most I've run into have been similar to Southord. (and some rare ones without handles that I tend to avoid at all cost!) I think the most important thing is to avoid mega kits with all bells and whissles. For example, I rarely use most of my large Sparrows kit pics and tend to pick up very few of them. For advanced picker it is good to have just the right tool there in case you need it though.
My first set was a no name Chinese ebay purchase , as I didn't want to spend too much starting out, but as this hobby is kinda addictive everything new I want, love Peterson's stuff now
I have always liked the bosnianbill idea of don't buy cheap for your first set. Buy something about $30 from a name brand as they will generally have good steel that wont break easily with rough beginner use.
I started with a Southord C810 and added from Multipick a W04 and a BOG03 and a 19 EUR set from Amazon with 4 transparent locks and a lot of tentioners. I didn't care about the cheapo picks but the nylon case was OK, the tentioners a good addition and the only "pick" from that cheap set I have in my final assembly is the broken key extractor just in case if that would be once needed... So the amazon thing was just to have a bigger case, tentioners and the transparent locks.
For $10-15 there is not much to complain about in my opinion compared to everything else in that range. There is a reason why some picks sell for $5-8 per pick
I don't think I've ever seen you pick before. Nice job. I think that left handers start out at a disadvantage because it just doesn't look natural and I think it takes longer to perfect but you got it down pat. Congrats
Lol, it is interesting I don't pick much on a lock picking channel but I enjoy doing the content I do more. I did make a video a while back on left handed picking and it can be tough especially TOK lock in hand
That looks like a decent pick set a beginner. I reckon if I started over again and had the option I might very well go for this set. What about Pickoligy? They do decent picks that would be good for beginners. I guess the only other issue is having a couple of picks that go down as far as 18 thousands. Yes the risk is higher to snap it but it just might take out some of the frustration with keyways that need a slightly thinner pick. I guess it's swings and roundabouts as always. I have just started picking a few weeks ago and I have been buying various lockpick kits. The first set I got was Southord PX-5 then I ordered a cheaper set from Amazon called Badus, the HONST set and the 9 pieces Goso set and then a Sparrows expansion set. What I find odd is that I prefer the HONST and the Goso over the rest of the picks. It could be because I lack more hooks with the higher quality picks but it's like I get better feedback with the Honsts and Goso then with the Sparrows. I think I will also buy this kit the hooks look good and they are full tang. What security pins do you think are the most difficult out of these 3 the serrated, mushroom or spools?
@@HelpfulLockPicker Really? I saw BosnianBill did a review of them and he called them junk. ua-cam.com/video/eWzM9npBXqE/v-deo.html I just assumed like him everyone else considered them Junk but more often than not the Goso always open the lock for me, I believe I get really good feedback given that they are not full tang.
does anyone know if it's possible to pick a medeco xt t-handle cylinder this lock looks super hard and i don't know how you would go about tensioning it?
Yo I don’t know if you gonna answer a comment on a video that’s over a year old but I was wondering what exactly TOK tensioner you would recommend for a beginner
Average Picker is this a typo? I’ve been picking for about a decade and been a locksmith for 5 years. 015 picks?? A beginner will weeks the whole set in a few minutes. You really want the thickest pick that will fit the lock. Beginners shouldn’t be picking locks that the warding is so bad only .015 will fit. Also in my opinion and I own several sets from several companies. Peterson is far better than sparrows.
@@BoredLockpicker Yes you want the thickest pick that will fit, which the Tron or Attila will take care of being they are .025. The .015 short hook will get tighter keyways. And those two picks, with a selection of tensioners will get you through a heck of a lot of locks. You could pick your way up and down the subreddit list through at least the "blue" locks if not a few more. And...maybe Peterson is better. (I'll avoid the whole inscription/engraving/stamping issue) Sparrows I think is good bang for the buck. So if it is cheap beginner we are going for I'm not so sure about sending someone to Peterson.
I'm kinda lost. What makes this a 12 piece set? It has 11 picks, 2 tension wrenches, and a case. Are you saying it's 12 because it's 11 picks and a case? If you're gonna count the picks and case then why not count the wrenches too? Technically, it's a 14 piece set. Every set I've bought counts only the picks or they count everything included minus the handle sleeves. Ps. As a beginner set it's just okay. It's lacking, in my opinion. There are too many hooks. A beginner really doesn't need an extensive number of hooks. It needs less hooks, a couple rakes, and definitely needs a couple more tension wrenches. I think this is more of a amateur set (step above beginner) that should be used in conjunction with another set with different options.
It's not a bad set but for the scope of this video it was more focused on $10-15 sets. A lot of people enjoy the tuxedo set and it definitely worth checking out. But if you want to do it the best way I would suggest ordering individual picks.
@@HelpfulLockPicker i want to buy the set from banggood but with all this sad events with virus and stuff don't know if they are gonna ship anything out of the country, the same is for site wish, didn't receive anything for a month now. i have found the same product on ebay but the cost is $25.31 + 4.41$ shipping. i'll try my luck with banggood, thanks for the video.
@@HelpfulLockPicker i think not even the authorities know what type of virus it is, there are viruses that live, die and then in contact with the live-tissue, they start to live again, now it may sound like resident evil, but the world of viruses is weird and really dangerous. if i get the product and survive, then i'l make a video of my own on how i pick a lock. :D

Thanks for checking it out. You still ended up with a good set :)

does anyone know if it's possible to pick a medeco xt t-handle cylinder this lock looks super hard and i don't know how you would go about tensioning it?
Maybe Huxleypig69 would have a better idea. I've never dealt with one personally
Yo I don’t know if you gonna answer a comment on a video that’s over a year old but I was wondering what exactly TOK tensioner you would recommend for a beginner
It depends on where you live. If you are in the United States I like the one from Peterson but the one from Sparrow is good as well and a bit cheaper
Nice My Friend, are you home from France? Or is this another pre made video
I have a few more pre-made videos to go

What Is Best Cheap Beginner Lock Picking Set?
Top of Keyway tensioners, .015 Sparrows short hook, and a tron..and or Attila.
Thanks for sharing!
How about this kit

Do you have a link to the case you are mentioning?
@@HelpfulLockPicker no I looked at your link
and this cost a bit more than yours
link to buy it?
You can find it in the description or you can go to the website and search for it.
Where can I buy it from? I'm from the Middle Best
I am not sure
Nice
Thanks for checking it out!
You are the man brother!!!
What about the Sparrows Tudexo set. Is it any good?
It's not a bad set but for the scope of this video it was more focused on $10-15 sets.
A lot of people enjoy the tuxedo set and it definitely worth checking out. But if you want to do it the best way I would suggest ordering individual picks.
@@HelpfulLockPicker Alright, thanks mate! :)
Please can anyone in the comments spell out the name of the set? I didn’t hear him properly.
There should be a link to it in the description
right now the cost is US$11.22, really good price.
That's a great price! It's a great set if you're first starting out
@@HelpfulLockPicker i want to buy the set from banggood but with all this sad events with virus and stuff don't know if they are gonna ship anything out of the country, the same is for site wish, didn't receive anything for a month now. i have found the same product on ebay but the cost is $25.31 + 4.41$ shipping. i'll try my luck with banggood, thanks for the video.
@@mihaithemystic2890 that is a fair point but I also do wonder how long the virus can live outside the body
Is this set also suitable for European locks?
These might be a bit thick but you could always try to send them down with some sandpaper. I don't know of a thinner profile set for this price range
@@HelpfulLockPicker Thnx for the responds :) Do you perhaps have a video on doing that with sandpaper? Also do you have a suggestion of a set with a bit more price range?
yea well how do i convince my mum to lemme get it lmao
Thank you for sharing
This video is more like flexing your lock picking skill rather than a review lol
Thanks
As someone who has been picking since ‘05 and after wasting my money on a lot of stuff I didn’t need lol, I think that the MPXS-08 from Southord is the best choice for beginners
www.southord.com/products/lock-pick-set-8-piece-metal-handles-mpxs-08
Thank you for sharing! That is definitely a very nice set :) The big selling point on this set for me is that you can often get it in the $10-15 range which is hard to beat for someone who doesn't know if they are going to stick around in the hobby or not.
