  • @matthewtaylor3301
    @matthewtaylor3301 6 місяців тому +33

    Lithium Ion refers to all different kinds of lithium chemistries, including LifePo4 chemistry, and NMC. Both LifePo4 and NMC still use lithium ion transfer as a means for providing power. The older Jackery uses NMC chemistry cells, which certainly have their place. Higher energy density for their weight, something I have use for. For my use case, I'd actually opt for the NMC version, being that it is more compact, lighter, and I won't be cycling it much. NMC is the same chemistry used in things like your phone, tablets, and other portable devices as it offers a higher energy density than LifePo4.

      Throw a solar panel outside and run your cord into the house to charge the battery box. Our energy efficient / large capacity deep freezer would run forever on that if necessary. Not with the Jackery 1000 but another unit with 3,000kwh. Even considering a cloudy day or rainy day we would still get bye. If you’re charging with grid power then there is no point to using it. The power may be back on in a day, or it may be a week. If it's winter refrigeration isn't a problem so that's a saving. But you do need to keep that furnace running. Dad had a little gas powered generator installed in the shop that was enough for the basics. And a bigger PTO driven generator if we needed to run more equipment.

    Jackery Sucks: I recently purchased two Jackery Explorer 1000 v2, and one 200-watt solar panel. With one of the power stations, if I want to run my 550-watt window air conditioner the power station turns off when the AC compressor turns on. This is NOT supposed to happen, and I can't find out online what the problem is. The second power station doesn't have this problem. I've had the power stations and 200-watt solar panel for only one month, having used it around 10 times, and one of the two kickstands is already beginning to break off; I'm guessing it's because I live in central Arizona and the plastic fold can't handle high summer heat -- the kickstand fold is up at the top where it's exposed to sunlight/heat whereas other brands have this fold lower so it's in a shadow. I'm also unhappy that there is no kickstand in the center of the panel, only on the ends, because when set up the center always sags and doesn't face the sun the same way as the ends do, so you need to use something to prop the center up; I use a cynder block. Lastly, the two-prong connector to the solar panel is extremely finicky because after connecting the cable to the power station it often registers as 0 watts input, so after going out and fiddling with the two-prong connection to the solar panel about ten times it will finally work properly; the connector to the solar panel should be some sort of click-on attachment rather than loose fitting since that end of the cable cord is always bent/curved at the connection point! Customer support gave me a lousy 5% refund on this solar panel. I later contacted their marketing department (with photo of breaking kickstand) since I have a UA-cam channel and plan to make a review of this product, and never received a reply from them, so now I'm going to make a harshly critical video about this power station and the solar panel. My advice is to purchase other brands like Bluetti or Oupes because you cannot use other solar panels with a Jackery -- Jackery makes everything proprietary so that you're stuck using only their overpriced solar panels and cables/connectors!

The two batteries connected together can power a 240v washer and dryer or any 240v appliances

    Li-FePO4 is a trade-off versus Li-ion, not an upgrade. Yes, they have more cycles and are a bit safer, but they also have less energy density. I charge my Jackery 500 once a month, so 500 cycles will last me 40 years. I don't need the new chemistry to increase that to 300 years. I carry these 15+ lbs. power stations everywhere, so I want the lowest weight and I don't care about the number of cycles.

    Regardless of fine print or location of the details of a item in the specs, if Jackery lists the battery "type" of each unit, it's not shady. It's up to consumers to do their homework before purchasing. Being dishonest as a buisness however, would infact be shady. The lithium iron phosphate batteries are cheaper for them to buy. They make more money off you when you buy the lithium iron phosphate. Unless they spent more money on the other parts and then it's a wash. The older lithium ion is lighter for the same capacity. 500 cycles would be 5 years of using it 50 weekends a year draining it each day you use it.

    It is good to see them switch to the better chemistry. I don't have a home battery system but I do use Bluetti and Jackery devices daily to work from home with solar energy. As such my original Jackery Explorer 500 gets the job done but it doesn't have 60+ watt USB C for direct DC laptop connection forcing me to the comparatively inefficient inverter. It also gets discharged to about 30% then recharged about 4 times a week so that 500 cycles is a meaningful limitation.
