keegan773 these people know in advance what time the ship leaves. You are right. I have seen these ship wait a half hour for people. If they miss it oh well
He was not abandoned, we've done many Disney Cruises and even with parents, grandparents, friends, kids and now grandkids, we managed to get back on time. I hope he had to pay for all the extra trouble.
As a veteran cruiser, YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE SHIP BEFORE IT EVER LEAVES THE DOCK! It is your responsibility to keep track of time, and manage your time correctly. Not the ships.
+m16chick i agree. im always very aware of getting back to the ship 1/2 hr before its leave time just in case your cab gets a flat tire or the bus breaks down on the way back.... the thought of being left behind is a problem i dont want. btw, always have the tel# for the ship on you , always carry your passport, credit card, etc. & always check your watch.
R.C. not after they drop you back off at the dock. They drop you off where the ship is docked, and then you need to survive all the vendors. Once they drop you off, it's still up TO YOU to get back to the ship.
+m16chick oh yeah that's the fun part.. lately some ports have on shore security scanning now, so you are at their mercy. we ALWAYS make it back early.
With more than 20 cruises including Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. More than 50 dockings, walking off the ship and back on. In every case the ship has ALWAYS made stern warnings "do not be late, we will not wait for you". He was late, they didn't wait for him. Gee, what a surprise! Hey! DON'T BE LATE!
62 cruises and never missed the ship except before it began because of snowstorm. Watch a girl miss the ship in Skagway , Alaska. Ship was barely 4 feet from dock. She retained a helicopter who flew her to next port. Only cost $800 she said
Cruises always tell you the exact time their leaving AND will warn you with loud horns to tell you that there 15 minutes away from leaving then 10 and then 5, and if you miss them all your either deaf or you traveled to far from the port and it your fault for not getting back on time. Disney and every other cruise line always states " If you're not here at the time we depart, we will leave without you " so next time pay attention and plan ahead on where you wanna go instead of just winging it.
It's obvious that the ship did not abandon the running guy. Running guy hopefully counted himself lucky that even though HE WAS LATE he was still accommodated to get on board.
As a veteran cruiser, I know this- Always arrive way before the time the last people are called or make sure your excursion comes back earlier than the ship leaves.
This is like when you get ditched by your connecting flight because you hanged out at the airport and didn’t keep track of your time, it’s up to the passenger for keeping time
You are told a million times the night before and the day of when to be back on board 🤷🏽♀️ it is completely his fault. We were told cruise lines get fined for not leaving the port on time
I've been on many cruises which includes Disney. The ship will wait as long as they possibly can for latecomers. But at some point, they have to leave to maintain their schedule. Depending on how long they waited on this person, the captain will have to cruise at a higher speed and burn expensive fuel to keep his or her schedule on trip back to US. As far as I'm concerned, there is no excuse to not be back on board for the departure. This guy was lucky. He should get a bill from Disney for the cost of the extra port fees
It's not the fuel it's the port charges. I worked on the disney wonder and out ports were all very close so leaving late wouldn't be an issue. But paying for an extra hour port fee is extortionate!
Exactly and the port charges are hefty. Can the cruise lines afford? Sure, but it does add up and if they waited for every dingbat (and there are many) it becomes a problem for any cruise lines. I don't think I have ever been on a cruise where they didn't wait for some passengers at least 20 minutes to a half an hour.
This is not uncommon. I was on a cruise to Bermuda and a couple from our private group completely missed the ship...they had to FLY back to NYC and it was not cheap!
f your late for the train plane cruise ship its your own damn fault. Plan for any delays. When I cruise I plan to be back onboard at least 2 hours before the ship sets sail if not on excursion or right after the excursion returns.
I wish someone had compiled a List of their finest excuses and/or interviewed them and posted those. Now that would be seriously amusing and a painful lesson to some.
I heard from a couple that put up a video of cruise tips that their cruise director has a "most wanted" poster of repeat offenders! 😂 The morons missed the first port so he finally broke. He posted pictures of them with their room numbers! Savage... Worse: some of the passengers KNEW these people and were furious to see who was holding up the ship!
A cruise ship has an itinerary to make. If you're not on that ship, and you're not with a Disney excursion party, then they'll leave your ass behind. They don't know where you're at, and if they're waiting for you for hours they'll get behind a tight schedule. I'm surprised he actually managed to catch that ship and get back on board.
I was once late on a Hurtigruten ship in Norway. However, that was on an excursion booked on the ship. We were about 10 minutes late and we became 'pier runners' as we did not want to hold the ship further. In such cases the ship will wait or will have the excursionists brought to the next port.. When I went ashore on my own I made sure to know when to be back on the ship. Hurtigruten has a very tight schedule, as these ships are multipurpose working vessels: ferry, freighter and cruise ship. I enjoyed travelling on the Hurtigruten.
I was on the NCL Getaway in mid April and we had to wait for people at each port of call, twice it was for only about 20 minutes, but St. Thomas we waited nearly an hour only to find that the person who they were looking for was already on the ship. I guess that the ID reader malfunctioned and didn't register the guy back when he returned. He was in his cabin and couldn't hear them paging him over and over.
Carnival Cruiseline did the same to me and my two children. We WERE on a ship-sponsored excursion and it ran late. We hustled back to the ship (I can only walk/run so fast -- I have severe osteoporosis) we were 2 (TWO) minutes late. The boat was still there -- we could almost touch it -- but they would not let us on. That's why Carnival has had all the problems since. My curses work REALLY well!
You were 2 minutes late, the boat says board at 6, they don't leave till about 30 -40 minutes after, they wait a touch longer if the system acknowledges missing passengers, you were not 2 minutes late.
+Kate Hawkins I have to believe there is more to your story: normally if it is a ship booked shore excursion, they wait for you. Also, when they say "all aboard at 5 PM" they typically don't even take up the gangways until 5:30 PM. They usually have a built in 30 minute grace period, on something around it. NEVER heard of a ship departing 2 minutes after specified time.
Everyone has a time to get back on ship, if u don't make it, it's not the crew's problem, and if u are worried about arriving late, from where ever you are going, either don't go so far away or leave early, it can't be any simpler
yep they do give u enough time to shop , etc , no excuse for missing your ship! We went on the Carnival Elation back in Feb and I'm going again with hubby and kids next year again sometime! I can''t wait!
after 14 cruises and who knows how many ports this happens at every stop and sometimes they leave the people on sure to fend for themselves LEARN HOW TO READ TIME
Kim Smith Yes they do. Cruise ships are fun. For some days you are on the ship at sea. Just make sure when you are in ports, you have a watch because your phone may have some wacky time and you could miss the ship so always be back on time, but when you are out there have fun.
+Kim Smith Not only do they give you a time, but they usually don't depart until 30 minutes after the time they say. Of course, they don't publicize that because they don't want everyone thinking they have 30 minutes more than they do. Chances are, though, this guy was more than 1/2 hour late getting back to the ship, not even close.
Can't the ship just wait a minute for me to get there? NO. Absolutely not. The cruise lines are fined if they do not leave at their scheduled departure time. It is thousands of dollars. It is not worth it for the ship to be nice and wait for you.
Cruise ships don't incur fines for staying in a port a few extra minutes, some captains will wait a few extra minutes for passengers who haven't made it on board.
That was interesting. That must be the worst feeling to miss your ship. When I was in St. Thomas a family almost missed the ship. We ended up waiting for them to return.
That makes me mad. Because the bloody fool won't learn from his mistake, he will probably do it AGAIN. Let's hope that he gets left behind if this is a habit of his.
Good on him. I like to see people like that get the consequence of poor time keeping. Good for the ship. Keep up the good time keeping guys. Leave anyone who dont know how to follow simple rules.
As horrable as Carnival was Disney was as good as it gets! Great food, even room service, entertainment light years better, you will LOVE a Disney Cruise. I honestly can't find a bad thing to say and we were on the oldest Disney ship. It is light years better than Carnival. I don't know how it could get any better than Disney. Just make sure you bring a video camera to film all those memories. You are in for a treat!
that's his fault for being late, not Disney's. he's responsible for getting on the ship at the right time. Disney makes sure everyone knows when to be back in by, so it's obviously his fault for missing it
Yep. P&O does this too. Everyone is warned what the cut-off time to re-board is, but there's always some idiot who runs late. On Pacific Sky we left some people behind on Port Vila, passengers as well as crew. Tough.
@jgraef919 Its the Pilot boat that brought him, when big ships approaches harbours, there are ''pilots'' from the local area that board the ships and help the captain navigate to the pier, they usually use rope ladders to board and leave the ships. Hope it clarifies :)
My family almost missed our ship...but it wasn't our fault. The baja buggies tour guide (in Mexico) said that the tour would take only 2 hours when it took 4. We were 10 minutes away from having to call a helicopter to fly us back onto the ship.
Always. Book. Your. Excursions. With. The. Ship. People from foreign countries are out to get your money in any way that they can, and they know that they have 0 liability to you if you miss your boat. Tourists are the easiest targets.
I've been on almost 20 cruises and the rules have always been the same. Be back on board by the time they told you or you get left behind. The only exception is if you are on a cruise-sponsored activity. THEN, and only then, they will delay the departure. If you booked your own tour with a local company or you went beaching or shopping on your own, sorry, it is your own responsibility to get back on time. Too many people have grown up feeling entitled and they expect the ship to wait for them. It won't happen. We always planned to get back on board one hour before the deadline. Then we get drinks and lean on the rail and watch the latecomers sprinting down the dock. Passengers actually lay bets on the runners. LOL Take some ID and a credit card ashore because YOU may have to buy an airplane ticket to fly ahead and rejoin your ship.
I have been on 2 Carnival cruises. The first was wonderful. The second one my mother got food poisoning on. The boats doctor tried to say it was potassium shortage. It was for her birthday and Carnival never offered a dime back. When we returned home a day later the doctor confirmed food poisoning . I will never go Carnival again. She will never cruise again.
When planes say they take off at a specified time, they won’t wait for you. Why should a cruise ship be any different. They have schedules to keep too.
sometimes it not always their faults. when i was on a cruise, my tour guide decided take us to a cricket stadium where they were hosting the cricket world cup. Two problems: the stadium was on the other side of the island and it started raining coming back. there was mud of the road so the bus had to drive slow -__- we were about 15-20 minutes late! and i sprinted faster than usian bolt!! lol
I was on the Disney ship and they were paging someone right up until the last minute. They make it very clear that if you don't get back in time, the ship will leave without you. The time in Cozumel was 1 hour earlier than the ship's time, but there was a sign at the end of the gangway as we exited reminding us of that. Maybe he was going by local time....?
@xPownzor Disney cruise may look like a small ship on the outside, but when your inside of it you don't realize how that it's a small ship because it's extravagant. Trust me, I've been on the Disney cruise before and it's a beautiful ship. It's awesome and fun.
Where's the disney ship? How late was he? And disney does say on the beginning of the cruise on the frist night before the show that "if your late then take out your camera to take some lovely pictures of the ship sailing away"
It`s amazing how many of these videos take place in Cozumel...however after wondering about that and also having been on a cruise there, figure it must be because the city is not accessible right at the pier...we went into town and everyone was required to take a taxi in and it was at your own expense...so it`s up to you to “catch” your own transportation and figure in the amount of time you need......maybe?
They tell you in real clear language when the ship is leaving. If you can't get back to the boat before it sails, then that is just too bad. Nobody's fault but your own. Catch an airplane to the next port of call, and meet the ship there.
If you're not too late, most ports have some sort of pilot boat that will get you to the ship. It is much cheaper than to stop a large ship, bring it back to the pier, get the mooring lines back out,etc.. Not to mention the crew is busy stowing the lines and getting the ship ready for the open sea, so then to have to undo everything they just did for the past half hour-hour. Trust me, this guy won't live this down the rest of the cruise.
I was on that Disney cruise ship and got a video of the same thing! I did not know, however, that he was able to get on. He was an employee, I do know that. My wife and I returned this morning from a carnival cruise and saw it happen again, only this time it was 15 passengers on the Carnival Dream in Nassau. BTW, the cleanliness of the Carnival was horrible. We will never sail anything but Disney again! Disney cruise #9 is in six weeks!
It all depends. Sometimes cruise agents stand by for emergencies like in this case, and transport the passanger back on a small boat, but the cruise ship will have to pay money.
We were here last year in august and saw two people running to the ship. Found out later they were our dinner table partners. Only if I have my video camera
The ship didn't "abandon" the passenger. The passenger failed to return on time. His fault.
The poster is having a pop at Disney. Of course its his fault, of course he wasn't "abandoned", but the poster wants to rip Disney.
keegan773 God bless you! Yes you are 100% correct! Nice to know common sense is still alive!
keegan773 these people know in advance what time the ship leaves. You are right. I have seen these ship wait a half hour for people. If they miss it oh well
He actually "abandoned" ship. lol
VERY NICE OF THAT BOAT TO TAKE HIM TO HIS SHIP; THEY DID NOT HAVE TO DO THAT!
He was not abandoned, we've done many Disney Cruises and even with parents, grandparents, friends, kids and now grandkids, we managed to get back on time. I hope he had to pay for all the extra trouble.
A big thumbs up to the dock staff, the pilot boat and the captain of the ship!
As a veteran cruiser, YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE SHIP BEFORE IT EVER LEAVES THE DOCK! It is your responsibility to keep track of time, and manage your time correctly. Not the ships.

R.C. Well and if you don't make it back in time, that's on you. It's easy to get back in time, it takes discipline and responsibility at that point.
When they say over the loud-speaker to be back aboard the ship by a certain time......THEY MEAN IT!
He was extremely lucky to be helped. Not always the case.
Absolutely ! This one will never ever do this again ever !
With more than 20 cruises including Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. More than 50 dockings, walking off the ship and back on. You can bet he had his nose buried in a bar it never fails. I find it strange these people never see the other passengers leaving the area.
Yep ships seldom leave port on schedule. You'd have to be very very reckless to miss your ship.
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. Goodbyeeeeee..... Jerk.
Omg i was on that cruise when that happened i remember it exactly because my mom and I were laughing so hard! wow can't believe it
This is not uncommon. I was on a cruise to Bermuda and a couple from our private group completely missed the ship...they had to FLY back to NYC and it was not cheap!
probably the same guy who kept our dive boat waiting for an hour
I love Disney crusies and never messed the ships because I always book excursions ON THE SHIP! Or online when your booking it
f your late for the train plane cruise ship its your own damn fault. Plan for any delays. When I cruise I plan to be back onboard at least 2 hours before the ship sets sail if not on excursion or right after the excursion returns.
+Daniel About the same thing I do. No excuse for missing a ship.
same, but when im on a disney cruise i go on the aquaduck because theres no line since everyone else is on the island
Yes, they are expensive, but they are so worth it. They treat you like kings and queens. I would sail with them again in a heart beat.
I wish someone had compiled a List of their finest excuses and/or interviewed them and posted those.
Now that would be seriously amusing and a painful lesson to some.
I heard from a couple that put up a video of cruise tips that their cruise director has a "most wanted" poster of repeat offenders! 😂
The morons missed the first port so he finally broke.
I'm surprised he actually managed to catch that ship and get back on board.
if it was a cruise sponsered event then it is their problem ,not the clients ,moron

They are not on tight schedule. I don't even know why people care.
some idiot is always late. it never fails.
I was once late on a Hurtigruten ship in Norway. However, that was on an excursion booked on the ship. We were about 10 minutes late and we became 'pier runners' as we did not want to hold the ship further. In such cases the ship will wait or will have the excursionists brought to the next port.. LOL
I rebuke your curses in Jesus name you witch.
DYNO DON Lol, you believe in witches?
You were 2 minutes late, the boat says board at 6, they don't leave till about 30 -40 minutes after, they wait a touch longer if the system acknowledges missing passengers, you were not 2 minutes late.
+Kate Hawkins I have to believe there is more to your story: normally if it is a ship booked shore excursion, they wait for you. Should have run faster. Next cruise maybe he should spend more time in the gym, less in the 24hr restaurants, and buy a fucking watch.
Leave him there, why should the others, who can tell time be held up
+Michael T why would the others even care? Just relax on the ship.
im sure the church of mickey mouse will be wanting them to re marry
the water is beautiful!!!
Everyone has a time to get back on ship, if u don't make it, it's not the crew's problem, and if u are worried about arriving late, from where ever you are going, either don't go so far away or leave early, it can't be any simpler
He was not abandoned. He was late.
come on, he totally could have made that jump
he is VERY lucky...
He learned a lot that day.
They can't wait much, they are on a tight schedule so, it's the passengers fault, IN MY OPINION, they should've watched their time.
I agree
I have been on 12 cruises and every port there are people who can not make it back on time most are left behind were they belong
never ever miss ships movement, it says what the ship leaves on the pamplets they hand out to you before you go on shore.
yep they do give u enough time to shop , etc , no excuse for missing your ship! We went on the Carnival Elation back in Feb and I'm going again with hubby and kids next year again sometime! I can''t wait!
after 14 cruises and who knows how many ports this happens at every stop
and sometimes they leave the people on sure to fend for themselves
LEARN HOW TO READ TIME
Learn how to spell shore

Agree 100% - and I bet he got heck when he got on the ship.
Cruise ships don't incur fines for staying in a port a few extra minutes, some captains will wait a few extra minutes for passengers who haven't made it on board.
Captains have schedules to make for the other 3500 people that can manage their time.
Agreed
@@Anonymous501 maybe the person was really late
What a nice pilot. He lucked out on that one
That was interesting. That must be the worst feeling to miss your ship. When I was in St. Thomas a family almost missed the ship. We ended up waiting for them to return.
I agree ith you completely. Nobody does it like Disney!
When debarking, I always put on my 2 mile leash.
Ship is going nowhere without me.
Tip #1 ALWAYS ALWAYS stop at the open door BEFORE U GET OFF THE SHIP..MAKE SURE u have the SAME TIME ...PLUS get back 1 to 2 hours ahead of time
Bloody hell, he was lucky. The pilot tender actually took him out to the ship.
That makes me mad. Because the bloody fool won't learn from his mistake, he will probably do it AGAIN. Let's hope that he gets left behind if this is a habit of his.

Ya if u book thru the ship and the excursion is late they will be forced to wait for u no matter if ur a day late or 10 minutes
but helicopters are fun :)
That's interesting, because most cruise ships don't have helipads. You would have had to rappel down like the Navy Seals.
HDaviator Hmm, idk, my dad was saying they wouldn't have left us behind/we would have gotten a helicopter

The magic is being re-imagined and will be like new again with a lot of what the Dream has.
Right now I'm sure he's in the process of blaming everyone and everything but himself. Once again, the pure definition of entitlement🤨
I was on the Carnival Elation in Cozumel over the Thanksgiving break but were docked at a different port next to the Ruby Princess.
Caitlin Nguyen Cool
Hardly Abandons him .... they clearly take him back to his ship
Naomi Mckinlay I’m sure the scare set him straight though.
The people filming are on a different ship. The Disney ship is clearly marked on the funnels.
Are cruises fun?? I've never been on one
When planes say they take off at a specified time, they won’t wait for you. Why should a cruise ship be any different. They have schedules to keep too.
If the airlines held back planes for morons like this guy, they'd be going bankrupt every week...
This isn't a car that you just stop and start. This ship was already warping away from the pier. It's done. The procedure has started.
sometimes it not always their faults. when i was on a cruise, my tour guide decided take us to a cricket stadium where they were hosting the cricket world cup. Two problems: the stadium was on the other side of the island and it started raining coming back. there was mud of the road so the bus had to drive slow -__- we were about 15-20 minutes late! and i sprinted faster than usian bolt!! lol
RUN FOREST, RUN!!
LOL
That's why you book everything with Disney, they will not leave till you are accounted for.
The Running Man ? If that was Arnold, he would have just swum out to the ship and climbed aboard. This other guy wimped out and got a free ride.

Always book your tours or activities with the cruise line. If they missed the boat then it their responsibility to get you back.
Looks like you had fun!
Your title is deceptive, they didn't 'abandon' him the boat brought him back.
The filming is taking place from the Disney Fantasy
I'm going in 4 days so exited!!!
How was your cruise?
It`s amazing how many of these videos take place in Cozumel...however after wondering about that and also having been on a cruise there, figure it must be because the city is not accessible right at the pier...we went into town and everyone was required to take a taxi in and it was at your own expense...so it`s up to you to “catch” your own transportation and figure in the amount of time you need......maybe?
It is also a very long pier. Takes while to walk back to the ship.
They tell you in real clear language when the ship is leaving. If you can't get back to the boat before it sails, then that is just too bad. Nobody's fault but your own. Catch an airplane to the next port of call, and meet the ship there.
I wonder if he got a bill sent to him from that port authority for the use of that boat that took him to the ship?
+AdstarAPAD yes he did $$$_$$$$
If you're not too late, most ports have some sort of pilot boat that will get you to the ship. It is much cheaper than to stop a large ship, bring it back to the pier, get the mooring lines back out,etc.. Not to mention the crew is busy stowing the lines and getting the ship ready for the open sea, so then to have to undo everything they just did for the past half hour-hour. Trust me, this guy won't live this down the rest of the cruise.
wow he's lucky. if it had been carnival he would have been buying an airplane ticket to the next port.
I imagine this happens pretty often...
He must be important no ones gets on board after ship pulls out
the small boat picked him up to take him to the cruise ship in the end of the video. did you watched it all?
So, you factor that in. Late:= book a flight to the next port.
because of a car accident in Jamaica we were late 30 minutes and Royal Caribbean waited on us
If they say we are leaving at 5 ... Be there. Not their fault you can't keep track of time.
Absolutely! Good on the captain I hope the ship left him !
We were here last year in august and saw two people running to the ship. Found out later they were our dinner table partners. Only if I have my video camera
I guess he forgot to have his mother call him and tell him it was time to go.
"Mommy, where's Daddy?"
Here's your passport, the airport's that way.........
