  • Lately I''ve been streaming my putty applications as I work through retesting everything on my Improved Testbench 2.0. Feel free to hit Subscribe and customize the bell notification the "All" if you would like to tune into future streams.
Last night the audio went bad for the first 20-30 minutes until someone starting watching and let me know (Thanks T.Sharp). Instead of torturing you guys with the sound of Darth Vader choking on a bread crumb I've trimmed it down and made it into a short and fast timelapse of the TH949-1 Putty Application to the Test Card (Results to be updated in the Google Drive folder later today.

    Application Notes:
The LiPoly SH-putty3 that I applied and tested yesterday was a lot stickier than I expected, especially for what I consider a clay like putty. It sticks very well to VRAM and Cooler. It's not the highest performing putty, but may be ideal for some situations.
We then applied MX-4 paste to the Core, and Penchem TH949-1 to the VRAM, leaving TG-PP10 everywhere else on the card.

Thanks for all the testing you've done. Have you tried K5 pro?

@aleks138 I'm guessing Kitchen-Custard? Yeah, I've got 2 Reddit accounts. I forgot to change the name when I first made it, then also made the Snarks-Domain account. Can't remember why I didn't delete the Kitchen-custard one then, but now I keep both for posterity and to not lose the posts and comments.

Zotac has come a long way. My first was the GTX 480. Doubled as hot plate.

Hello. Thx you for your videos. I am wondering how many grams of putty are usually necessary for GPU memory modules and VRMs ?

For just the VRAM on this card (8 chips), and core side only U'm using 15-20g of putty. Each card takes a different amount of putty.
I need to make a calculator sheet where folks can enter sizes of stock thermal pads and it'll say approximately how many grams you need, and what diameter of "log" to aim for to replace each pad.

    Hey quick question...
What happens if let's say i have just applied new Putty, and then have to re-open the card later down the line ?
Like a month later the putty was still kinda malleable not solid yet, do you have to re-apply or vram will make contact again regardless ? (Provided that while separating the card, no putty fell down or anything of the sort).

In this scenario I would likely reshape the putty around the VRM woth a little spatula, like I have been doing with the TG-PP10 on this test card.
For the putty on the VRAM I would remove, roll into logs and place it back on. This way it gets good contact during reassembly of the card. I wouldn't clean the putty off though, since you'll be reusing the same putty. Just remove bulk and roll into logs (with gloved handa) or use syringe to squeeze it out into logs (this method would be easiet with a messy putty)

Currently away from home for the holidays. Will get back to testing when I'm home again. Gotta finish up with the Laird TPCM7250, then continue testing other solutions.
