Been going to Great Adventure all my life, and while this season was a disappointment for multiple reasons, the final day of Kingda Ka was one of my favorite days ever at the park. Seeing and talking to coaster enthusiasts from around the country and waiting in line for Ka was an experience that I will never forget. From opening to closing, seeing the appreciation for one ride and how it has impacted so many people was special.
I appreciate all the effort the Coliwod Studios crew put into bringing us al the updates at GA. I grew up in this park but don’t live in the area any longer so I live vicariously through these videos. I know this was a trying season. Nothing is ever perfect but man I expected so much more for the 50th. Oh well, on to the 2025 season!
they really dropped the ball on the 50th but in a couple years its gonna feel like a different park, and thats something that really can't be done without a bad season
Honestly, 2024 had become the worst year ever for GAdv as a whole. Not only their 50th was an absolute dumpsterfire, they’ve lost 6 rides all at once, and soon to be 7 with Cyborg rumored to be on the chopping block. SF closing down Kingda Ka for good with no announcement and no proper send off basically became the nail in the coffin for the park.

Don't forget that there 2024 coaster (flash: vertical velocity) didn't even open and joker trains crashed on the lift. Also I'm not sure if it was great adventure but I'm pretty sure a kiddie coaster (Harley Quinn coaster?) derailed or some thing. So yeah a pretty bad year for great Adventure
The Six Flags Great Adventure 50th Anniversary year with the Good, Bad, and Ugly. The Good: Dream Street: A great looking brick pathway with better flow and sightline of the park because of the removed paintball building. Log Flume: Completely refurbished and got cleaned up nicely. Carousel: Everything got Repainted and it came out really good. Giant Wheel: The big standout here is the new light package which is incredible. The rest of the ride got repainted and refurbished as well. Toro/Ka Pathway: While this might seem redundant now this was a really good improvement instead of having to walk all away around. Savanna Sunset: I will bring up the price in the bad section but the resort itself looked pretty. The rooms didn’t look bad and the outside was done well too. I also like how it’s implemented in the safari so you get to see some animals. 50th Entertainment: For what they could do within the budget they did a good job. All solid shows and a cute parade. Retro Bar: I will never complain about more history being honored and that’s what this is. However the lighting in there clearly wasn’t meant for that but it was still good. Entrance Overhaul: When they removed the turnstiles, I was like what are they going to put here? Well Putting the looney tunes with the flowers actually came out nice. Also they did a little work repainting the top of the entrance and they changed the abbreviation on the entrance from “SF” to “GA”. Definitely interesting. The Bad: The Brick Price: People thought $150 for a brick was insane and I do agree. Words on a brick does not qualify for that price. They did cut down the price to I think $75 and even then I think that’s a reach. Most of the bricks on the pathway are still empty and I think this is one of the main factors. Brick Delays: For the people that did order one of these bricks well some came in early at the beginning of the year but for others well you had/have to wait a long time just to see it installed in the park. 50th Delays: While I loved the things that they did with the giant wheel and log flume, they took too long to open. Especially log flume opening in like the last week of August. Ride downtime: Now this wasn’t a huge thing for me but it was for other people. This year there were a few too many rides that were closed at the same time. I think this has to do with all of the stuff they did for the 50th that maybe some things got neglected due to the budget. More trains on coasters: It took a little longer this season to get more trains on the coasters so I hope this can be improved next year. Savanna Sunset Price: I do really like the resort but the prices were just too much. I don’t think great adventure was at that point where you could charge those prices. The Ugly: Flash: This delay did hurt and I was really excited to ride it. But 2025 it is then. Ride closures: Kingda Ka, Zumanjaro, Skyway, Green Lantern, Twister, Parachutes, and Cyborg all bit the dust. That was not on my agenda for the 50th. It’s just one of the most devastating things. No announcements for the closures: Everyone deserved to know what was happening and Six Flags not saying anything until after the fact is just wrong. Ride Incidents: What happened here is just not acceptable. Especially in the year that they had. This just can’t happen.
The Biggest disappointment for me is that if it weren't for the merger Ka would have completed its rehab project that the old management was in the process of doing and operated for many more years.
This channel and a few others inspired me to shrink my bucket list. This past year I rode two gigas, four RMC's and figured out that Intamin is my fave (I'm looking at you Skyrush and Maverick). On GA's 50th I rode Toro with your Dad and Johnny and Ace were in front of us debating if cheesecake should technically be called a pie. Thanks for keeping us all up to date with excellent content.
2024 was definitely a crappy year for Great Adventure as a whole, but I fell in love with this place during the 4 days I spent here (3 days in the summer and 1 during Ka's closing weekend). It was my first time visiting the park and I loved the rides and thought it was generally well-kept with fast operations (better operations than Hersheypark IMO). Kingda Ka, Green Lantern, and Jersey Devil were all closed during my 3 days over the summer, but I'm so grateful I got to return to the park and ride all of them during Ka and Lantern's closing weekend! Here's how I rank the coasters at the park and how many rides I have on each for both the year and lifetime: 1. El Toro (21 rides): Top 5 ride in my book and only behind The Voyage for woodies. The best pure airtime machine in the world (but still has positive Gs) and better than any RMC I've ridden! WOW! 2. Kingda Ka (6 rides): It's just as good as Top Thrill Dragster, but I still prefer TTD slightly. Phenomenal ride and will forever miss it! 3. Nitro (9 rides): One of the best B&M hypers! I think it's better than Mako and Candymonium because the layout is better and the airtime is still really good. 4. Jersey Devil Coaster (2 rides): Least favorite RMC, but that's still a top 50 coaster in my book! Super fun ride with fun airtime and inversions! 5. Green Lantern (3 rides): Definitely underrated in my book. Great layout with some STRONG forces. Will be missed! 6. Batman: The Ride (7 rides): It's a Batman clone, which is a great thing! Still one of the most intense coasters around! 7. Superman: Ultimate Flight (2 rides): Fun flying coaster. Not on the level of Tatsu and Manta, but still provides a unique ride! 8. Medusa (2 rides): Enjoyable, but feels kinda bland. Normally I love B&M loopers, but much like Scream, it doesn't deliver on the goods. 9. Runaway Mine Train (2 rides): One of the best mine trains out there. That hill at the end feels like Magnum and it feels illegal! 10. The Dark Knight Coaster (3 rides): Wild mouse in a box, but fun! They don't trim it much which is a hoot. 11. Skull Mountain (3 rides): I liked this ride, rave or not! Definitely a unique family coaster. 12. The Joker (2 rides): I'm not a big free spin guy. They run smooth, but I'm not a fan of flipping like that. X2 does the 4D concept much better! 13. Harley Quinn Crazy Train (1 ride): Solid family/kiddie coaster! Has a decently long layout, which I enjoyed. 14. Lil' Devil Coaster (1 ride): Only got this credit so I could make Wildcat's Revenge my 200th. I rode this before Jersey Devil, which is pretty funny.
Not only had this park not gotten any real or original additions until Jersey Devil (which isn't that much of a standout coaster), we're removing the most iconic one. And before Jersey Devil and the Flash, we hadn't gotten rides for awhile Great Adventure could have easily been the #1 park. But we're gonna need more than one replacement ride now, and I hope they start actually getting coasters. The park improvements are the one good thing to have happened
Sadly I only got to SFGA once this year which was during Fright Fest and only got on the signature rides once (Ka, Toro, Nitro, Medusa, Batman, Superman etc.) and thank god I was able to get a ride on Ka one last time before it closed. I went with a group of friends and one of them decided not to ride Ka due to a fear of heights but said she wished she went on it that day (this was before they announced it was permanently closing) and now she's totally regretting it since it's now permanently closed and I feel so bad for her and everyone else who never got to ride it. This season was a disaster for not only closing a signature attraction but for not announcing it to the public until after it closed so more people couldn't get one last ride on it before it closed. Also their 50th anniversary celebration sucked and delaying Flash until next year was also terrible. 2024 was not a good year for SFGA and sadly 2025 does not look any better. Wish I didn't purchase my 2025 seasons pass because 2025 looks to be like another down year and wish I could get a refund because if I could I would. So sad what's happened to this place it's not the same place that it was when I started going there back in 2006 and back then it was the place to be. Wish it could be great again like it was nearly 20 years ago!
Could be the worst seasonal effort on the part of Great Adventure in my membership history. Running rides at reduced capacity with one train and ultra slow operations, rides closed, broken, or delayed for reasons under the park's control, failure to complete off-season projects on-time, tight-lipped and delayed communication practices, serious food and beverage deficiencies, lack of consistent and transparent pricing, reduced operating hours, and unannounced closure and demolition of 7 rides including Kingda Ka. Management, corporate or otherwise, should be ashamed.
Colin- Although I dislike telling someone what to do, you should try to get onto Swashbuckler more often. Who knows how long it’ll last? It’s also a classic.
Very true! What tends to happen during the main season though is that I focus so much on the headliners that the supporting cast gets a bit lost in the chaos
My daughter and I drove up from Ohio to visit GA this past August. Overall it was a great experience and a great park. Fortunate we both rode ka for the 1st and last time. Disappointed in El Toro,the ride experience doesn't match the hype,,I found the restraints are terrible,they push in and up on your insides and hated it. Hoping 26 brings something special,not a Boring and Mundane copy and paste launched wing coaster
Things I’d like to see in 2025 Medusa original paint scheme, Mine Train & Nitro’s original station music but I’d like to see to see either a lake or a movietown arena show comeback but again Mineride is on top
Overall, I think it was a poor season from start to finish, unfortunately. At the start I became PISSED at the one train operations that were happening on most of the coasters. Seriously, WTF? Was there really no way to avoid that for the 50th anniversary? This was especially bad for the JD coaster. Talk about testing your patience. No Skyway and the refurbished rides (Log Flume, Big Wheel) took quite awhile to open. The Flash did not open either. The closure of 6 rides, including Kingda Ka. This will only be made right if they can get a world class replacement for Ka. I have my doubts though.
I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. And if it doesn't I think they should spend the downtime completely refurbishing it unless they plan or removing it soon which, if they don't use the space if Ka AND lantern, they just might.
Genuinely one of the worst years for any park ever, let alone for a 50th anniversary celebration. I am fully expecting the GAdv 2024 season to be used as an example in the corporate side of the amusement industry of what not to do and of the worst possible condition that a season can go. Just an absolutely pathetic display from start to finish.
I feel Like 2025 Will be a much More Liked Year for me bc Well 2024 They shut down the 2 main rides I've been waiting to ride because I was to short but I lost my opportunity To ride green lantern and king da ka Zuman Atleast I got about in 32 Rides And Yes King da ka I am tall enough Just right now 4'5 Feet but Toro ummm..... I got only 3 rides Which I am not happy about last ride of the year is which I loved it in December But I'm really excited for the 2 main rides the breaking coaster And The most excited For Is..... Flash Vertical Velocity I'm going in spring Hope I see You there Collin And that's how my 2024 Half Season was Byeee!!
Am I the only one who likes Superman 😂😂 I would rather them invest in another train and maybe a duel loading then take it out. We can’t afford more ride removels 😂
2024 has to be the worst year for SFGAdv in the past decade. Losing 6 rides all at once to only have 1 ride opening next year. Six Flags better have some big surprises for this park in the coming years or it would be a massive failure on their part
I haven’t been to Great Adventure since 2008 and I doubt I will ever return. The park has changed for the worse in my opinion and has gotten way too expensive.
It actually wasn’t cedar fair fault, goes back to Selim, he locked the funds and back the budget down to prepare for merger, cedar fair is at fault for the ride removals
CF made their 50th even worse by closing down 6 rides all at once with no announcement, or should I say 7 cuz Cyborg was rumored to be on the chopping block. It was old SF’s fault for making the 50th being a dumpsterfire.
It's very boring and forceless besides the pretzel loop. Especially having ridden much better flying coasters like Tatsu at Magic Mountain and Manta at SeaWorld Orlando.
Yeah, I bought a 2 tickets for 2 days and I was very lucky to ride Kingda Ka & El Toro in June which was 5 months before Ka closed forever. The previous year in 2023, both of those coasters were closed, and I thought that I just had to ride them, so in 2024 I accomplished my dreams and both were amazing and are in my top 25.

I don't know about that sure because sfga 10th anniversary there was 8 deaths with the haunted mansion fire.

The eel toro is a wooden death trap and it makes a noise so unsettling

I’ve learned to keep my expectations very low with GADV. I think once we all let go of what this park used to or could be, we’d be less disappointed.

This year I rode Nitro 30-40 times so that was good for me. Also got 5 rides on ka.
I personally had the best summer at Great Adventure. That’s primarily because of the nice people I met.
Yes there were some ups and downs but overall I had a great time at the park and I went around 50 times.

2024 was the year GA made me cancel my membership finally. jsut utterly disrespectful to quietly close zum and Ka.

Was there really no way to avoid that for the 50th anniversary? This was especially bad for the JD coaster. Talk about testing your patience.
No Skyway and the refurbished rides (Log Flume, Big Wheel) took quite awhile to open. The Flash did not open either.
The closure of 6 rides, including Kingda Ka. This will only be made right if they can get a world class replacement for Ka. I have my doubts though.
How do you keep track of how many times you ride a particular ride?
I have each visit's ride count logged in my notes
I've got a question, how will people navigate to and from Superman without walking through a construction site, will it open at all this season?
I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. And if it doesn't I think they should spend the downtime completely refurbishing it unless they plan or removing it soon which, if they don't use the space if Ka AND lantern, they just might.
There will probably just be a construction wall blocking the demo site and leading to Superman
Genuinely one of the worst years for any park ever, let alone for a 50th anniversary celebration. I am fully expecting the GAdv 2024 season to be used as an example in the corporate side of the amusement industry of what not to do and of the worst possible condition that a season can go. Just an absolutely pathetic display from start to finish.

I feel Like 2025 Will be a much More Liked Year for me bc Well 2024 They shut down the 2 main rides I've been waiting to ride because I was to short but I lost my opportunity To ride green lantern and king da ka Zuman Atleast I got about in 32 Rides And Yes King da ka I am tall enough Just right now 4'5 Feet but Toro ummm..... I got only 3 rides Which I am not happy about last ride of the year is which I loved it in December But I'm really excited for the 2 main rides the breaking coaster And The most excited For Is..... Flash Vertical Velocity I'm going in spring Hope I see You there Collin And that's how my 2024 Half Season was Byeee!!

Maybe we can all chip in and “tip” the demo crew to take out Superman, go karts and that basketball game while they’re on site.
Am I the only one who likes Superman 😂😂 I would rather them invest in another train and maybe a duel loading then take it out. We can’t afford more ride removels 😂

It was terrible but lines were mostly doable most days I’d go so it was a win lose
2024 has to be the worst year for SFGAdv in the past decade. Losing 6 rides all at once to only have 1 ride opening next year. Six Flags better have some big surprises for this park in the coming years or it would be a massive failure on their part
I haven’t been to Great Adventure since 2008 and I doubt I will ever return.
The park has changed for the worse in my opinion and has gotten way too expensive.
TL:DR of the 2024 season, not good. Hopefully 2025 is better.

It actually wasn’t cedar fair fault, goes back to Selim, he locked the funds and back the budget down to prepare for merger, cedar fair is at fault for the ride removals
Someone said on the tenth anniversary 8 people died in a fire.
CF made their 50th even worse by closing down 6 rides all at once with no announcement, or should I say 7 cuz Cyborg was rumored to be on the chopping block. It was old SF’s fault for making the 50th being a dumpsterfire.

It's very boring and forceless besides the pretzel loop. Especially having ridden much better flying coasters like Tatsu at Magic Mountain and Manta at SeaWorld Orlando.

2024 had to be the worst year to buy a season ticket LMAO...
Yeah, I bought a 2 tickets for 2 days and I was very lucky to ride Kingda Ka & El Toro in June which was 5 months before Ka closed forever. The previous year in 2023, both of those coasters were closed, and I thought that I just had to ride them, so in 2024 I accomplished my dreams and both were amazing and are in my top 25.
