Unpopular opinion, the outdated atmosphere is nostalgic and reminds me of simpler, better times and is actually the driving force making me want to come back.
@ThemeParkMotivation lol ik it sounds weird but it's the truth. Don't get me wrong, repaints and repairs are definitely welcome. I just don't want the part to lose it's identity and atmosphere, even though it looks like after this season I think it already is.
I wish i could go to action park when i was probably 8 and allowed jump off the cliff into the water when only taller people were allowed on but a bit of convincing from an adult to the attendant. Here were are. Times were different for real.
Your are absolutely right. It's a Union shop , they don't care cause they are Union workers and they work on their schedule. If an non union employee says anything or tries to help , they file grievances like toilet paper.
It hurts my heart to hear that as a teamster truck driver I know all too well how some union workers can get very complacent and lazy. I also know the great adventure along with all the other Six Flags parks constantly cuts the budget for maintenance when that should be the first thing they’re spending money on. The proof of it we don’t have to look too far other than El Toro constant issue after issue every year rather than spending the money to get it fixed properly they just put a Band-Aid on it.
Matt, you inspired this video all that talk about Busch Gardens it makes so much sense. Wouldn’t it be great if Busch Gardens would take this park over it probably have to invest $200 million in it, but it would probably be the best park in the world.
This park was incredible back on the mid to late 2000s. They had Kingda Ka, El toro, Rolling Thunder, Medusa/Bizzaro, the minetrain, nitro, Batman, great American scream machine and even with the Batman and robin ride. This park was incredible back in the late 2000s and I guess the first 5 years of the 2010s but after 2015 . They could’ve RMC’d rolling thunder and turned it into a mobius coaster like with twisted colossus but no they decided to take it down for a ride that didn’t even last a full 10 years lmao. (AND IT ENDED UP GOING DOWN! So no drop tower either). And yk JDC was good but tbh they deserved something much bigger. And now they’re gonna take down Kingda Ka??? Their draw???? WTF is wrong with you six flags. Do better.
I do agree with you with that suggestion of Busch Gardens taken over that park because they are more animal friendly. They have more of that antique older look an aesthetic. They can easily turn that into like a theme place based on animal or London.
Don’t think new company will spend the money to fix it. Park president said 50 million over two years. That’s not enough to redo an entire quarter of the park and replace 6 rides. New coaster alone to replace ka should be 30-40 million. They are really making risky decisions right now. They ideally should sell the park if they can’t get capital for proper investments and renovations. Should be a resort destination well themed so much potential with safari. Cedar fair has no experience with animals as well. However, I do believe ceder fair will be better than old six flags and looking forward to see what they do.
Yes, I am optimistic that Cedar fair will do a better job with their leadership team in charge now however I just think this park needs at least a $500 million investment to really refurbish update bring new attractions and I don’t see them with that kind of money not for one park
SFGA is my home park and I finally bought a season pass this year. On the day of its 50th anniversary most of the top rides were either closed or had delayed openings. Sums up 2024. This year was also the first time I went to Cedar Point (speechless!), Hershey Park (this is how you do it) and Kings Dominion (305/Pantherian solidifies Intamin as #1). For Great Adventure to attain a ranking that is comparable to these parks, they will need a one-two punch rivalling them. Ka's replacement needs to have a full scale Mack Ride to Happiness layout in addition to a 400 ft tower. Toro needs a RMC 208 track refit and for goodness sakes fix the food options! Fantasy wish - replace Nitro with a from the ground up RMC steel giga and name it Super Nova (ala supersize Arie Force One), potentially best coaster on Earth.
This park has been negated by sixflags and definitely would have been better by bush gardens. They spend millions on high quality themed attractions while sixflags is cheap and only gave clones preventing this park from standing out since toro.
You introduced a LOADED topic with this one Rich. There are as many opinions about Great Adventure as there are thrill seekers. Brandon has been saying for the LONGEST time this park has huge potential that is just going to waste. But what I see happening is kind of like renovating a building. Gut it out and then start from scratch with a (hopefully) well thought out plan to make it awesome and reach the potential it deserves, ESPECIALLY since they have branded this park a "resort." Can you imagine Great Adventure raised all the way up to a standard that (rivals) Cedar Point??? That would be, at the very least, a monumental task that would take quite some time but even if they could come close, that would save this park from sinking into obscurity. 👍👍👍
I'm 44 years old, and I remember back in the 90s up into 2010s. Great Adventures was the go to spot. The world has changed. Everything is overpriced. Every time I visit, it feels like a shell of what it once was. I wish they stop cutting corners with everything.
Highly disappointing to say the least I try to be positive and have a positive outlook for these parks because I absolutely love theme parks, amusement parks, and most of all roller coasters but I think this park needs way too much investment to really qualify as one of the top parks in the country
Walking around Great Adventure feels like walking through a dying mall, its kinda sad, ride after ride closes, things get worse. The jaw literally broke off of skull mountain, this park is in jaw droppingly bad shape.
I stopped going to Great Adventure in 2008. The management concentrated on bigger, faster, first ever, record breaking rides and never bothered with upkeep on the existing rides. They tore down rides that might still be there if they took the time to care for them. Rolling Thunder was a unique dual track coaster that needed a bit of an upgrade and new track. What did they do? They tore it down to make a queue line for a drop ride. Bad decision after bad decision is what is wrong with this park. Cut down all the trees, remove benches, charge a ridiculous amount of money for a bottle of water…. The list goes on. I will never return to Great Adventure. I prefer Dorney Park, Knoebels and Morey’s Piers.
I totally understand i prefer Hersheypark myself only because it’s close but the park is well maintained and in my opinion has one of the best maintenance departments
Did you see that they’re taking down parachutes as well? I am an old time employee. My dad and both my uncles also worked at the park. I worked from 86 to 96. I worked in many departments.
You noticed that when they turned Bizarro back to Medusa, they did a terrible job retheming it by keeping some leftover Bizarro theming, including the Superman/Bizarro sign on the first drop and the metal thing on the corkscrews. They should remove the leftover Bizarro theming and add more haunted western town theming. And the former motion simulator building near Superman could be used for a MACK Airific Flying Theater.
This is my favorite place and the only amusement park I go to because I live in New Jersey. I like riding roller coasters and especially the Wonder Woman ride.
I went to great adventure and the park is just super outdated. The Boardwalk area is super outdated. Food courts are falling apart, concrete walkways are falling apart, the arcade half the machines were broke or just old. The whole park needs overhaul but, maybe they don’t have the capitol. It’s ashame because the park can be up there. It’s just mismanaged.
I went there one time with my 8th Grade class, and will NEVER go again. There is so much walking, and I am not a fan of the theming. Several rides were closed, including Saw Mill Log Flume and Congo Rapids, and it was almost 90° out.
I grew up going to this park and still live in the area. The park has really gone down hill in the last 8 or so years. Just the little upkeep and cleanliness of the park started to lack and so did the clientele, as time went on it got worse and worse and here we are today. People don’t feel safe taking their families there like they did in the past, they feel like it’s a hassle and not worth the risk with so many other options in the surrounding areas anymore. It’s sad but shit crowds and shit people kill parks.
I 100% agree I would rather pay more to go to a park knowing that my family is safe. I also wouldn’t want to pay more just for that though given this current situation of the park and it being a total turd but if they clean this park up and got some security in there And wanted to charge more, I’d be happy to pay it
@ if they followed a blueprint of what Hershey park has done they would be successful. Hershey imo is one of the best/cleanest/safest parks in the country and I go every year to their campground bc of it. They’ve earned my yearly business bc every time I go I have a memorable time and experience.
i come down from RI multiple times a year for the last 20 years, sadly it just keeps getting worse for this park, we went from going down monthly to just going down 3 times a year for brief 1 day trips. every trip this year was a major let down in one aspect of another. I think this year they just had too much going on construction wise at one time. more than they could handle. consumers paid the price.
@ unfortunately, I don’t think Flash will save the 2025 season after the disastrous way the handled the closing of 6 rides in 2024… thanks for the video man 👍🏻
I liked it a lot this year. Next year, maybe, although I'll be there (for the first time on my KD all-parks pass). Some recent years have been worse, esp. as they closed up stuff before I could go. As to low attendance, I have no desire to ever see the crowds maybe they "should" get.
The park has been in a decline for years. They have the worst maintenance crew. The Park looks terrible and is need of a refresh and some TLC. The rides are old and actually needs more rides. I have been going to GA since 1977 and can say it awful!!
I use to love great adventure. But I got tired of just horrible guest behavior and incompetent staff, stopped going in 2021 and probably won’t be back until whatever is replacing kingda ka is open

I agree this was a rough season for Six Flags Great Adventure. I went there in June and there were numerous rides closed (Zumanjaro, Ferris Wheel, Log Flume, Sky Ride), Flash was unfortunately incomplete, and the Safari was unavailable for in park guests. To make it worse, their discount system in the retail shops were malfunctioning the day I went, so I was told I couldn't use my season pass discount. Many of the rides in the park had only one or two trains running, causing extremely long lines on rides such as Superman, Green Lantern, Nitro, and Medusa that I had never seen that long in previous year's trips to the park. I had a really fun time at the park, with amazing experiences riding Justice League, the two Batman rides, Kingda Ka, and El Toro. I'm super thankful I went this summer to ride Kingda Ka one last time and even got to ride it numerous times due to low wait times for Kingda Ka that day.

Gave kingda ka a farewell season while construction begins at green lantern twister and parachute site. Get rid of other empty places, theater that is never used. @AmazedBunion no they haven't had even a full season of owning it all and the restructuring. Legacy six flags was heading towards bankruptcy without the merger, six flags would of been going under in 2025. Look at the last two year of financial reports and statements on revenues and guest attendance figures across the chain. Also the rest of the Six Flags parks are all doing decent so far and many are spending a lot of money improving stuff already. Six flags over georgia is doing tons of repaints, magic mountain is painting attractions, new sign refurbishments, and etc.
2:33 zumanjaro closing wasn't related to save money.. it was the structural failure in the amount of money it would have took to fix it. And also you could not run ka while it was being fixed
