Yes, gaskets and seals failing is a primary cause of old car problems. You got lucky with the cheap fix this time. Just hope the next gasket that fails isn't a head gasket. Been there, done that. Life is fun!
I'm getting rid of all gov't emissions related parts and lines asap. If nothing else it'll make it easier to address any REAL problems that are occurring.
Don’t let any cleaner get on the rubber parts of the EGR valve, or anything else. Don’t let it run into the ports of the intake manifold. Also, if an EGR valve is stuck, you can usually free it up by actuating it like he did, with his fingers. A 13 mm wrench for the bolt heads, or if you don’t have metric wrenches or sockets, use a 1/2 inch.
@@schomminater I have a 1987 Caprice Classic, purchased new by my grandfather here in Canada. It has the 307 olds engine, carb with no CCC. It's an old school Rochester 4 barrel complete with vacuum (hot air) choke. Yes, all original.
Thats not how u test an egr u need to pull down with 2 finger and one finger on the port were u plug ur vac hose then remover ur 2 fingers and keep 1 finger on the port if the diffram stayd closed then u know its good but if it moved back then its done
