0:06 "I have quite the audience here..."
Of course. They're getting ready to watch a mooovie. 👀
The fact that yellow jackets sting Shawn in most of his videos about nest removal and he still doing this without being afraid just show the determination that he has.
Shawn, get yourself a swimming pool vacuum pole. These are telescoping aluminum poles, reasonably priced, that stretch out to about 15 feet in length (longer ones are available). Attach a 10" hook made of 1/4" diameter steel rod to the end. Perfect for pulling down wasp nests. Much more safe to be on the ground than on a ladder too.
Better to just use molten aluminum and make art out of it. All fun any games till you drop it and see a spilt in half wasp in the middle of the broken piece…
Probably does it for content. The video's would be much shorter if he uses a pole to pull it down.
@@external316you understand this wasn’t underground right
@@narrowpath9491 yes, yes I do. Just making the comment here so I don't have to dig for hours trying ton find a video where the nest is underground. For mud dobber nest(s) (the one(s) my papa deals with the most) one of the best things to do is put a little bit of gas in a cup and put it over the nest, those idoits come flying out straight into the gasoline or just get taken down from the fumes (aka the reason they rush out anyways). Works like a charm, But heavy duty wasp/ant spray works too.
@@external316 aah I understand, thank you for elaborating
You’re crazy!!! The “dumb ways to die” song was perfect. Thanks for all your great videos!
Hi Shawn,
I live in Montréal, Québec and this summer for some reason we are overrun with wasps and hornets too. Long story short, my neighbour's property had some renovations done recently, removal of a rotted wooden balcony. There was a paper wasp nest inside, poor workers got attacked removing it. Some of the wasps are lingering.
I use concentrated peppermint oil on my gallery to deter them, it works.
I wish I wasn't SO scared of them. I've been stung lots of times in the past, it's not fun, their sting hurts worse than a bee IMO.
Thanks for your video. You're a brave man.
I'd be curious if you brought the yellowjacket nest to the bald faced hornet nest, would the two groups fight.
That would be awesome like a little insect war
This question need to be put to the test, im curious as well 😂
You keep evolving with the pests of the time and places.
Awesome Shawn.
Just in the off chance you are trying to hire me as a cameraman. I respectfully decline.
Would be an interesting video on how fast they rebuild.
Those drones and workers will all die off. Taking the nest like that with the larvae and the queen seals their fate.
@@frank234561thanks - u explained it for me
I’ve had a bald faced hornet remove a yellow jacket from my leg while camping.
Lol, what the heck do you mean? A bald face snatched a yellow jacket of your pants leg?
What?
Today I saw a video where a guy prayed expanding foam in the nest and they all died very quickly. chat GTP told him to do it.
Now we need a full version of you singing dumb ways to die 😂 whilst juggling
The sources I've read said to wait until after dark when the critters are back in the nest to do something to get rid of them, and to put a bag over them so they won't escape. Otherwise, the remaining bugs will go somewhere else and just start a new nest.
Been watching for like 8/9 years now ever since your spear videos. Watched your mousetrap videos all throughout my childhood. I’m now 17 and I’m coming back after a few years of not using youtube
Wonderful videos I'm in the UK We're getting more of these pests great work
You got quite the audience behind you Shawn.. Very cool..!! 🐮🐄🐮🐄
Hey there I just wanted to let you know that you could use starter fluid it kills them immediately and less chance of getting stung. I’ve used it for years with 100 percent success.
They are all underground near me this year. I’ve stopped 4 or 5 so far. I used a vacuum on two of them.
the cows are so intently listening.
Would be nice to see a mouse or rat trap contraption with the Yellowjacket pupae as bait, and the Hornets enraged finishing the rodents off. Like in a micro gladiators vs wild beasts fighting arena.....
Dude !!! Way too much time on your hands.
@@WillPOnya I was suggesting for a scientist/friend....😆
@@jfakoggl - LOL
@@jfakogglwho the backyard scientist. Dang it's evil, I kinda like it
🐝: 😡😡
Shawn: these guys are angry… I am going to juggle them.
That's quality entertainment right there! Thank you sir for going above and beyond just to entertain us.
Your videos are always so entertaining. You are crazy! My theory is the amount of rain everyone but us is getting! We have been catching about 100 a day in funnel traps I set near our hummingbird feeders! It is a year to remember!
Thanks for the video. Question, what happens to the hornets after the nest is removed? Do they starve? Will they go make another nest or join another colony?
Some of the hornets group up and make a new nest while some others die
I immediately thought of Blue Bell ice cream when I saw those cows, lol! 🍦
You sure are a brave man!!! 👍❤..
As always Shawn, gloves Shawn, gloves. Protect yourself and your family. And sometimes a whole bee suit.
I’m not far from figuring out who you are. Just wait.
Funny thing, over here in (this part of) Yurp, very few wasps around and haven't seen a single hornet all summer. They must have emigrated over the winter.
As for why there are sometimes more above ground nests or underground nests: It depends on two things:
-Ants. if there are a lot of ants somewhere wasps will be more likely to nest in trees because they struggle to compete for nesting places with ants. I am not certain enough to explain why there would be more or less ants at any time
-Temperature. Wasps want warm but vented nests. When it's very warm ground nests will overheat, making tree nests the cooler option.
Hi Shawn! Just curious, why don't you bag team so they cannot escape and create a new nest nearby? Thank you for the awesome videos!
I was thinking the same thing 🤔
The drones and workers are useless without the queen or the larvae. They will all die off.
That's not how wasps and hornets work... They go off and die without a nest.
I don't think they'll create a new nest without a queen, and the queen won't leave the nest that he took down.
He's done that in past videos, I don't know why he didn't in this one.
I must say, I’m really starting to enjoy the hornet nest and wasp nest videos. Do you have any of those giant hornets yet?
Tbh, all that hype for the juggling, and that part couldn’t have been more of a let down. The actual nest removals on the other hand… definitely didn’t disappoint!
I worked at a zipline tour company and during a tour while hooked into a zipline my tour group asked if I could get some up close pictures of a football sized bald faced hornets nest. After I got the photo I started to get stung and the whole group watched Thier guide freaking out screaming for his life while trying to pull himself to the end of the zipline.
I hate wasps. This gives me the absolute horrors
That balloon one was hilarious bty.😂
Shawn, fun fact - bald faced hornets are indeed yellow jackets. They aren't yellow, but they are still yellow jacket wasps (not hornets).
you are having way to much fun ! so BEE Careful 👍👍👍
Shawn, You probably should add Bee Suits to your online store.😂
The balloon one was great would like to see that again.
i love how you broaden your channel, keep up the good work. LOVE WATCHING THESE
What happens to all the hornets and yellow jackets that were outside the nest? Do they just go start another nest?
What happens if you put 3 different wasp nests and put them in a empty glass tank, would they kill each other?
We had a HUGE bald faced hornet nest stuck to our cottage up in northern Ontario. It was easily the size of a large watermelon. It was outside of a screened-in porch, so we got to watch it from safety on the other side of the screen. One night while we were asleep, we were awoken by a loud noise that sounded like something was trying to climb up or get through the metal screens. We looked out the window with a flashlight, but didn't see anything. The next morning, the hornet's nest was a mess. Something had climbed the screen and torn it to shreds. So somewhere out there, there's something that eats hornet larvae in the middle of the night. Maybe a Marten? We still don't know.
Betcha it was a bear
Another beehive larvae smorgasbord for the chickens!
0:26 quite the opposite here in NH. Haven't even seen a nest all year
Best to remove hornet nests at night when the bugs are all inside and asleep.
Things are certainly "buzzing" this year! - lol
Not so bad up here in Ottawa Canada (it seems to be very regional) - probably less than usual here so far - same for ants too.
Without that suit you'd be a candidate for a Darwin award.
Good work Crawdaddy.
I’m like to see you hit a nest with expanding foam
What were you doing with them once you cut the branch off?
Roll them up tight in a tarpaulin and fold the ends maybe ?
Your a Braver Person than me !!
Shawn is always entertaining!!! What a cool channel!!!
Shawn, Does removing the next get rid of the bees/wasp on the property completely or just reduce there numbers for the moment?
Hmmm. Just an idea. Go during the night. They will probably be all in and calm. Get a thick plastic bag , put it over and pull the whole thing... of course I take no responsibility if something bad happens
What happens to them in the winter? Do they hibernate? Would that be a good time to remove them?
This is terrifying
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming please.
will yellow jackets and hornets fight when you put the nests together?
Good job I am going to try the chicken trap you posted once
What's the purpose of just taking down the nest and leaving them to roam free to rebuild. Thought you would want to get rid of both the nest and it's occupant.
Use butterfly nets or larger for capturing all sizes of pests rodents to wasps
Just need a yt short of that performance XD
Great video!!! Stay safe tho 😅❤❤😊😊
Does removing the nest kill the colony? I know it is late in the season and that affects the time they have to rebuild.
Thanks Shawn.
Workers have limited lifespan and the queen will be removed
Also, it gets rid of all the eggs and larva.
Hello from Romania
Been wondering whats good to use in hard to get places that cant be opened. Behind wall. Used 7dust and sprayed but no luck.
Thank You 🫡
I'm enjoying this wasp story arc
Was from the massive water and rain last year
I would think you'd want to catch/exterminate the wasps/hornets to there's less of them to rebuild the empire.
Even with the suit, I wouldn’t be comfortable.
What happens to the all the insects that escape the nests that you remove ?
They have no where to go and no queen to serve and they die. Much like a soldier guarding a castle. You defend or die. These insects tried but failed and they died.
They apply for immigration or visa for another nest.
@@bbcringegaming😂
warmer temperatures make more above ground nests.
I really miss the piano at the end of your videos 🎶
God I hate these nasty bugs. Second ONLY to mosquitoes which are much worse in dealing with imo.
Shawn, now listen to me carefully, it is called mouse trap...
what about all the yellowjackets that still flying or returning from foraging ?? they will still fly around were the next was for a few days ?
Great video
chickens are happy I am sure
You really trust the manufacturer of that suit 😟
Cool video!
youre my hero
Pruning shears?
Those were bald faced hornets in that one nest
Amazing! Thank you for these videos!!
I seen them to sell upto 300 bucks on ebay
Who else is watching shawn on while they at work?👨🏾🔧
Best videos ever 👏
Isn’t it better just leave them alone?
I've never heard of bald face hornets before so thanks for posting that but still shocked that you don't collect the whole nest in a plastic bag or something instead of letting the drones fly out to protect their nest. Just wondering how many more hornet or yellow jacket video's you'll post since everyone has been writing in your comments that it's been the worst year they have seen. Would love to see you use dry ice to kill an underground nest before digging it up.
I don't think you need to continue with the exit of how many video's you've made and to like and subscribe, maybe try another shorter line or just have it in writing at the end instead? Still another great video though.
Shawn, Where do the yellow jackets and hornets go when you take their nests down?
I think to put those nest in a plastic bag and in a freezer for 2 days
You should sing in all of your videos.
mouse
Won't they just come back😕
Here I am again asking for a video on Mosquito traps! :)
Yellow
I wonder if global warming has something to do with these hornets and wasps seasons.
