as someone living in Switzerland someone saying "the Swiss language" made me cringe so hard. There is not ONE Swiss language since depending on the region people speak German, Italian, French, or "Rätoromanisch". Also, Swiss German is a dialect which is different from the region as well. People living ins Zürich speak quite different from people living in Bern etc. You can communicate fine in the German speaking parts with "normal German" (Hochdeutsch). Just because we speak in a different dialect doesn't mean we can't understand "normal" German. BTW: I agree with you totally- V.E. Schwab always comes-up with great ideas but fails at the execution.
About the Western-centered thing, I found it funny when Addie says she speaks French, English German, Italian, Spanish and the "Swiss" language...like instead of wanting to learn an Asian or African language no, she had to learn a European language that doesn't even exist.
Thank god there are other people out there who are like me and either don't like the book or don't understand the hype. I personally didn't like the main character. She made a choice, had to deal with consequences of said choice, and then proceeded to lowkey complain about it throughout the entire book (as in, all 300 years of her life). She just wanders through life without really doing or trying to do anything because "woe is her poor, cursed life". Definitely a neat idea, but it was executed poorly and weighed down by the main character.
It’s the little hilarious laughs before the cut that gets me all the time 😭 THANK U SO MUCH FOR REVIEWING THIS BOOK IT BORED ME TO DEATH and it was so fun watching you roasting it HAHSHAHAHHSHSHA
Honestly, Sophie is easily one of if not my favorite book tube reviewers. I will never tire of her angrily ranting about the plethora of mediocre to terrible YA novels that infests the genre. Never stop, peace and love
I agree, you can tell she is supposed to be seen as this ethereal amazing goddess of a woman but I don’t know about all of that she seems pretty basic besides her being immortal. Personality wise she was basic
I have five freckles that look like the Cepheus constellation on my back and my boyfriend basically never brings it up. No one should bring this shit up that much it’s a freCKLE
Thank you for this correct opinion. I read the digital ARC and almost couldn’t make it to the deadline lol imagine having a good hook and completely wasting it. Wait I also have to say that the Beethoven scene made me laugh hysterically.
I was waiting for you to make this video 😂👏 I gave it one star, because I had so many problems with it and that includes a lot of the points you mentioned. I could not believe how boring and shallow the MC felt. A backpacker on a budget could cover more ground in 30 days than what Addie covered in 300 years and their journey will definitely be more interesting.
gonna watch the video when i get the chance (final exams 😭😭😭) but i did really hate this book and DNFed it. i liked the premise but it literally took so long to get to the damn point. like it was supposed to be super sad and dramatic when she ran away from the wedding and the Devil wannabe cursed her but i literally did not care. the writing style was really simplistic too and chalked it up to being YA, until i found out it was in fact not YA
'm not gonna lie, I liked the book mainly because of Luc. But What I couldn't stand about Addie LaRue is that she didn't even bother to use the right words to make her wish; sHe never specified it, and later she complains about the result and throws the blame at Luc, who only fulfilled his job by giving her the wish she asked for. She is supposed to have been alive for 3000+ years, which would have to show that she has matured mentally at least, but she still behaves like a child
I'm 10:53mins in Ya know, I have right now ideas, how I would handle the curse: 1. Do a Fantasyworld, not our world. Yes, it's the reserch and how easy to is to fuck it up + we don't know everything that happend in the past. So create an own world to put events in. 2. So now to the actual curse. Let the character explore every corner of the world. I mean, because everyone forgets her, she literal doesn't have to pay for shit, so she just can sneak in and be a blind passagier. 3. She gets confronted with morals, because stealing, murder, etc. she could get away from it, because nobody will remember her. So probably she will be reallx fast conflicted and needs to create her own morals... Or just become evil af and has fun at it 4. She literal can go naked all day, nobody will remember, but maybe she will have panic, because it's still privat and she doesn't know if the curse lift and if yes, will people get the memories? 5. Give her an inmortal raven. Maybe cat. Or maybe a freaking lil dragon, idfc. just give her something 6. Learn every language with grammar and all... And heck, even learn flirting, she can go araound, flirt with random people. (She could even have one night stand.) She would be unstopable
I just finished this book, and honestly, if you like the idea of this book, but want something with more substance, look for R. Raeta books, specially Ladybirds (contemporary) and Peaches and Honey (historical). They were inspired by this one, but I feel like Raeta has a more lyrical and flowy way of writing that this author didn't quite reach. Plus Raeta is an (amazing) indie writer to support
Exactly! The story was interesting. However! There was a great beginning and end- the whole book in between making those two ends meet was boring and so hard to finish. But I did… because I wanted to know how it ended
Omg new Sophie video? Yes pls Just finished the video- another slay achieved!! Keep it up Sophie! :D (Also, have you read The Selection? It’s one of my favorite book series but I wouldn’t mind hearing you slander it 😆)
Finished the book and kind of blocked the memory of it. I just remember the exhausted sigh I would let out whenever I saw the chapter was about her past, and also thinking if I have to read another "seven freckles = stars" comparison or anything related to curls, I will spontaneously combust lmao
I wanna see a video of the books you do like even tho I love your rants lol 🤣 I just found your channel and I'm already obsessed your videos are so entertaining 💗
3rd comment from me on this video! But PLEASE… someone tell meeee… - Am I the only one who thought it had a great beginning… the ending was predictable.. but picked up at about page 250ish… but the entire middle of the book for like 200pgs plus, was just a filler?
300 pages into this book and its so fucking boring. The "Swiss" language part completely destroyed the last fuck I gave about the story. But this video is hilarious so at least theres one positive.
I thought it was boring but I thought I was being mean and waiting for the pace to go faster. By page 100 I stopped reading maybe that was a bad idea. Now watching maybe it is a good idea.
Just finished this book and I’m the biggest Henry hater. He really was a looser, I say that as someone with rlly bad anxiety and depression. I hated his “representation” and found him insufferable and just obnoxiously poetic in the jug head from riverdale way.
her name is larue because she belongs to the streets
lmao 😂

Do speak any african language? Like yoruba or something?
2014 and she doesn't even mention the kardashians 💀 asking the real questions
I hadn't thought of that👀

omg🥺 thank you so much
The irony of Addie LaRue being one of the most boring, forgettable characters ever 😭😭😭 but Schwab acts like she wrote a masterpiece

This book was just full of big words and no substance. I WAS BORED TO DEATHHHHHHH with it!

I’m currently reading and Luc is turning into my favorite character as well
I almost bought this book two days ago! I'm glad that I decided differently in the end😅
I actually really liked it😓
i love your rants but can you make a video about your favorite books of all time?
valid review as usual! if you want schwab’s good writing but without the repetition and an actual good story, i recommend reading vicious
YOU ARE HILARIOUS I LOVE YOU 👏🏼

This book should be named " the empty life of addie larue". This girl sucks.
I really disliked this book, and I could not understand the hype. Happy to see someone who agreed with me!

I wanna see a video of the books you do like even tho I love your rants lol 🤣 I just found your channel and I'm already obsessed your videos are so entertaining 💗
I read the book and found it boring. Did you get food at least?
i literally was forcing myself to read this book then your video showed up. im glad.
Thank YOU. I saw “boring” in your description and immediately clicked. Was the same for meeee.
3rd comment from me on this video! But PLEASE… someone tell meeee… - Am I the only one who thought it had a great beginning… the ending was predictable.. but picked up at about page 250ish… but the entire middle of the book for like 200pgs plus, was just a filler?

I loved the second half of the book
I thought it was boring but I thought I was being mean and waiting for the pace to go faster. By page 100 I stopped reading maybe that was a bad idea. Now watching maybe it is a good idea.
I personally enjoyed the book but you still make good points😂 please read kingdom of the wicked it's trash
This made me laugh so much, thank you for your review.
I LOVE this rant!
i think the demon took her to places.. so Luc does not believe in Asian countries :P Also, I agree that Luc was the best character.
Just finished this book and I’m the biggest Henry hater. He really was a looser, I say that as someone with rlly bad anxiety and depression. I hated his “representation” and found him insufferable and just obnoxiously poetic in the jug head from riverdale way.
I love your remarks on if she can take shit :D Hilarious! Yes one might wonder indeed! And can she walk in mud? Since she might leave footprints?
You’re hilarious and I agree with you on some of these points
❤️❤️❤️
Literally just checked out this book from my library this week, so I’m about to read it and will return here once I’m done 🫡
I’m so glad you talked about this, hands down I hated this book, I literally had to force myself to continue it 🥲
