Sophie, I just found your channel but this rant is epic. I appreciate all you have shared today, makes me as an author unsure about joining booktock at this rate, but the rant is well worth it. I made sure to subscribe because this was so fun. You will do amazing on your exams, I know they seem overwhelming but it is like writing a book. It looks impossible at first, but eventually you realize it is by far not as bad as it looks at first. You got this, thank you for making me smile and have a wonderful day.
I'm about to self publish my first book and... I don't know. I think it's a little weird that authors are trying to pay for reviews. It sounds shady on both sides. Why not just pay for ads that people know are ads? I'd gladly give an ARC to a reviewer for free, and let them say what they really think about it good or bad. That these authors were willing to pay kind of feels like they're down to be deceptive to viewers as well. Not that that makes it ok to rip them off, but still questionable.
I get where they're coming from. Truly, I think the situation was that they were paying her to READ the ARC with a promise for public feedback (the whole "Any Press is Good Press" idea). I don't think it's too deceptive, but I can see how it would feel that way.
@@jabberwockybooks yeah but even if they're not specifically saying "make sure the review is positive" once you bring money into the equation, it throws everything off balance. Book reviews are for readers, book ads are for authors. The two should not mix. If I ever found out that a book reviewer got paid by the author they're reviewing, I would not trust them anymore. That's why I trust Sophie, because there's no way in hell any of the authors she reviews paid for these rants lol
@@brickcruz5325 You know, the more I think about it, the more I agree with you. If anything or at the very least, it should be marked as a paid advertisement and not a review.
@@jabberwockybooks yay I accomplished something today! I'm gonna go call my mama lol. But yeah I agree with that last part you said. The fact that they DON'T state it's paid says everything that needs to be said about the situation. It's a trust issue, and they know it
As an author I can understand where you are coming from and many high profile authors actually pay for reviews from high profile people. As indie authors it can be a true struggle to get your books seen through booktube or booktock (understandable given the amount of books, but also sorta sad). So there is a lot of conflicting information out there on what new writers should do when it comes to reviews. With time and experience every author finds out about ARC's but not all in time before they pay for reviews. Good luck on your new book. What is it's name so I can pick it up and support you.
I don't care if reviewers are paid for reviews, as long as they divulge it's an ad. Whether or not they're lying about their review, it'll be up to me if I believe them, and I can still choose whether to get the book or not. I don't watch much paid reviews (unless they've hidden that fact), so Idk how much I'd be swayed by said review.
Ich liebe deine Aussprache 😍 ich lerne Deutsch jetzt und ich denke dass deine Aussprache in Englisch sehr gut ist. Ich hoffe dass eines Tag ich so gut auf Deutsch klingen kann
"Ugly love" Oh Red flag "and Credence" OHHHH RED FLAG
Until yesterday, I thought your Funko Pop was Jungkook. I now know that he is in fact Eren Yaeger
😭😭😭😭 there’s even two of them
love when you give me all of this tea on people i've never even heard about 😌
She seems like a major red flag, so major in fact that I question if her mom actually passed and if she actually has heart troubles/health issues.
I have a hard time believing anybody's favorite book is Credence
some people just want to be different
@@honestlysophie then again, some people do have genuinely bad taste 🫡 that's life....
Wouldn't be my favorite even if it was the only book i ever read

“nobody cares about bts” bestie you were almost cancelled 😭
I feared for her life for a second😅
43:30 i wonder if she couldnt find examples because Calli so rarely actually did any of them, and didn't label them correctly when she did 😬
Congrats on passing your exams 👍
