you forgot the music concert shooters using their crappy cell phones. They're holding up their cameras in vertical mode so they get only 1 person in the band in frame, but they get everyone standing in front of them and the ceiling, instead of the entire band. And they're jumping up and down so that camera is shaking all over the pace.
You missed out my genre - back garden photography. This is popular with people who have too much money and embarrassingly poor photography skills and spend it on expensive cameras but can’t be bothered to leave the house. They pretend they’re just comparing cameras and lenses and will one day definitely pick a proper genre when they’ve found the perfect camera which a friend of mine on UA-cam used to search for (I miss those days!). My pro tip is not to use telephoto lenses when practising this skill as your neighbours may get entirely the wrong impression as to what you’re doing (according to someone I know).
Yes, old and retired, cannot walk far, had time to accumulate gear once I retired, old enough to appreciate digital compared to film, have some money to add new (used) gear (come on R7). Had foresight to leave city I was born in and earned enough money to buy a house with a nice yard surrounded by meadows and woods on the glacial moraine of the driftless area. My wife plants flowers hummingbirds like and fills the bird feeders. Sitting here with coffee watching morning birds coming in on a cloudy day with diffuse light. Oops, gotta go have my new (used) canon 2xII with my old (used) 500 f4 I on my 7dII and a rose-breasted grossbeak just landed on the new branch stick I put up yesterday. The front branch is lower than the back, so yhou will be able to see the fn bird. Be envious you young bucks, my backyard is somewhere you would walk to....
I belong to the genre known as the wannabe. I wannabe all those genres of photographer and I watch every UA-cam video I can to learn how to do each and every type of photography. And I am spectacularly useless at all of them. But every camera review, every lens review brings new hope - this will make me better at last! You know the saying 'all the gear, no idea'? That’s me and thousands like me, and we all watch your channel and laugh and laugh till we fall asleep and dream of becoming a videographer instead.
On a roll in this one Kasey 😂 had me cracking up multiple times. And by the looks of these comments, you can do a second installment. Photojournalists, food photographers, macro photographers, etc
I pretty much agree with your assessments! You forgot sports photographers who obsess with gazillion frames per second and pay fortunes for the heaviest gear that exists.
I bet that people used to walk those trails -- to enjoy nature, get away from the concrete and steel, and commune with God -- but now they are frightened of the plaid-hat wearing guy who talks to himself on the trails....
Yeah, your mind must have froze up at the end there when you couldn't think of any more genres. Here are a few. Sports photography, event photography, macro photography, astro photography, environmental photography, journalism photography, pet portrait photography, architecture photography.... that's probably enough for a part 2.
Thank you for mentioning Astro photography. I got into regular photography just Street and wildlife because of my interest in getting into astrophotography. But astrophotography is just way funner and the things you can capture in the night sky to me are way more beautiful than anything mankind has to offer at the time. Partially joking I mean I've seen something fantastic street photography and landscape photography and I love some macro photography. But man when you process your first image of a nebula or a Galaxy it's a feeling you will never ever forget.
@@JoseHerrerawl not like I take photographs of them you don't. I take photographs of the great Orion Nebula with the running Man nebula the horse head and flame nebulous side by side. I photographed entirely different galaxies with red greens blues in them. I'm not talking about taking pictures of the sky at night talking about astral photography completely different thing. And if you have seen real photography and don't think it's impressive then I question your judgment. Not to be rude or harsh just saying.
@@JoseHerrerawl oh man I'm really sorry dude I didn't pick up on that. That's probably cuz I'm an idiot LOL but my apologies I didn't mean to take it the wrong way. I should have picked up on that. I've never heard of anybody seeing images of deep space in the stars like that and not being amazed LOL
You forgot astrophotographers. I'm on a couple of groups but I can't take it anymore... Every picture is like. "I took this picture at noon of a landscape at 12mm. Then I photoshopped in a night sky image I took 6 years ago at 200mm. It was tracked and stacked. It's basically what the eye sees at night". Bunch of liars. I'd like to hear your opinion on that.
I can see the that some people are rightly excited to master the technical challenges astro poses. As to the outcomes I wonder how today's picture is different to the one made 10 years ago or another person's 100km away. Therefore I assume that astro's excitement lies mostly in the process that precedes the final picture which then serves as validation. But isn't that the case for all photography?
I saw a picture of a person standing on a hill top silhouetted against a gigantic moon - and I tried to work out what telephoto lens could do that. That sized moon... the proportions, the sharpness of the person's outline. Scratching my head. It never occurred to me it was more likely a composite piece of B.S. foolery. There should be a law.
"Why don't wedding photographers ever film the divorce?" 👀😆😂🤣 That joke, but in Jerry Seinfeld's voice!! BTW you forgot architectural photographers, most of whom would be unemployed without Zillo.
Street creep here, lol. Street to me the most challenging because you’re not in control of ANYTHING. Not the weather, the people, the lighting, etc. Almost nobody is a model, the timing is always crucial and everything is done on a whim while at the same time being very methodical with where you’re gonna be and why. Shot my first wedding this weekend so I guess that makes me a loner as well. Thanks for the laugh, Kasey. 😂
Was about to say this haha, that's the part that makes being a Street creep the best though! The process of getting a great shot despite all the unknown variables along the way
I'm gonna go ahead and guess that commercial product, sports and fashion photography is more demanding because there are actual requirements, no hiding behind "capturing day to day life and pulse of the city". Then there's wildlife that's a lot more uncomfortable than walking around with a latte in the city. Or astro and nightlife with several hours long timelapses that need to be set up perfectly. They reap rewards though, street photography has a low entry barrier but it's incredibly challenging to do something interesting with it. I don't think i've seen a single interesting example of the genre, really.
Street photography is about unique moments. Life at an 'extreme'. It requires alertness to see the moment. It is wildlife photography with humans as a subject. It is about capturing the subject's essence. That requires that one literally faces the subject in its natural and as far as possible unrestricted environment. So no pictures from behind unless the object of interest is on the back like e.g. a tattoo. With living things the essence lies mostly in action, a bird sitting on a branch doing nothing but sit there IMO does not capture 'essence'. Neither do the average pictures of animals in a zoo, the human equivalent being portrait photography. No matter what your genre is to transcend the boundaries so that one also captures some of the things beyond the obvious is the photographer's challenge.
@@fredriksvard2603 It's not a contest, you're equating the worth of photography to deadlines or monetary compensation. We can't all do the same thing and most of us don't do it for a paycheck. Even if you have such disdain for street it's still a form of expression and an art form worth respecting.
People who have seen my photos have said I should be a wedding photog. No way. The same applies to portrait photography. Your description of portrait photogs is exactly how I think of them.
That's it. I'm getting into divorce photography. I hear it's quite lucrative. Maybe. I could make some business cards and get my wedding-photographer friends to hand them out at their next gigs. That will go over well, I'm sure.

You left off the best genre of all - FINGERNAIL photography. I've built up a large portfolio of fingernail pics over the years. I've even started incorporating fingernails into other genres too - there's nothing like a beautiful landscape with a fingernail in the upper left corner! True composition! I usually ask people in the park if I can take a pic of their fingernail - some agree, and others say "Get away from me you f_cking freak!"....oh well, just remember it's not only wedding photographers that have it tough!
What no knocking sports photographers? Carrying their $50,000 + 200lb gear around? 3-4 camera's minimum? 100mm-1200mm lenses . Hunched over messed up backs, big old beer bellies from all the hot dogs and beer they consume at the sporting events?
Perfect content for my lunch break. Nailed it on the landscape photography. Since I've learned about post production alchemy I can't look at landscape photos the same.
Glad to see my genre, which I'd like to call "back to composition basics" isn't mentioned here. Years ago when I started learning photography, I was kinda obsessed with street photography. Capturing those candid, "decisive moments". These days? Not so much. I tend to think on the very basics: light, shadow, texture, shape, and color (color is mentioned last which is intentional. I typically shoot in B & W). That's how I start composing. Well you might call me "fine art wannabe". Fair enough? :D
street photography appears exactly as you described to me. i find some of it interesting on youtube, but when i attempt street photography i feel like a creep.
Why? You are just capturing what everyone can see. I have a simple rule for myself, a firm resolve to "not to show people in an unflattering light". I discard such pictures even if they are funny or amusing. It is one reason I keep away from shooting homeless people, beggars, etc. One needs to respect people and their circumstances. I belief if that is done then there is some instant mysterious communication and people often 'help' with some spontaneous gestures.
I do have to say I love your blogs they're very unique and creative and you speak your mind what's this a good thing a lot of people out there are so fake and try to stage s*** you're the real deal keep up the great blogs
As a landscape and wildlife photographer, I kinda approve this message. Guess what, Kasey: good wildlife photographers edit a lot, too. We both subscribe to Jan Wegener, who takes already beautiful birds and edits them into epicness. Steve Mattheis and Morten Hilmer are also great wildlife + landscape shooters BTW. Check them out and mock them at your leisure.
Lmao, this video made me realize just how bad I need to niche down. It's like you were scrolling my instagram feed while you made this video. I feel attacked on all levels. Lol
Astral photographer here. Best genre, work while you sleep, set on automatic. Cheat the results as much as you like. Photoshop out the yin-yang. Call yourself 'Digital Artist'. Easy
I llike your attitude! living in a world that is immersed in lies and deception, for me the genre that works is telling the truth! political, religious, historical, social, cultural, and so on. I haven't produced much material yet because I am working alone and it is hard. my message is : stick to the truth.
I'm a street photographer with the Fujifilm flip screen, except it's the X70 because I'm poor. We rely on zone focusing, not auto focus, because we shoot Fujifilm. Get your shit together, Casey. 😂
Thanks for your informative and awesomely entertaining videos. They’re about 72% of the reason why I come to UA-cam. Here’s an odd one: would love a camera with respectable ability to shoot nice long range photos/videos with a proper zoom lens but also take nice portraits with a good prime lens. Do you think I need a high count of megapixels for this or am I better off with something in the low 20s in terms of MPs? I don’t know. You should. You’re the one with the channel and a line of apparel. Thanks, Kasey. Love your videos!
I'd look at a few other videos talking about camera sensors and their ability to still take amazing pictures. Megapixles describes only one part of photography so miniscule that you'd be fooling yourself thinking that a higher megapixle count leads to "better" photography. That sounds pretty harsh, (sorry about that), but I don't want you to waste your money on something that won't fit your needs. All the best! :) Okay so I realized that what I said had little to do with what you actually asked. Yeah I'm in the same boat 🤣
Macro photography ? Food photography ? Or things like here in Asia such as: Pubes photography ? Armpit photography ? Toenails photography ? Legs hair photography ?
Landscape takes less skill than Street photography, I do both so I should know. On a serious note given your political views street photography is important as it gives a true picture of that city or town. Many countries that look to oppress their people and give out fake news/propaganda make street photography illegal because “we’re protecting your privacy” yet the same people look to spy on your emails/social media and spin you the line “if you’ve nothing to hide you’ve nothing to fear”. Street photography is truth, those that value free speech and democracy should support it
"Street photography is truth, those that value free speech and democracy should support it " It's not absolute though. There needs to be sensible restrictions on what ya'll can take pictures of.
@@david.stachon did I say that? No, in fact I’ve never been a fan of super close invasive street photography a la Bruce Gilden as it isn’t a real depiction of life and it’s also rude. But absolute bans on Street photography is something that should worry people. The worst countries in the world have always had this “no candid photo” policy in common as it lets police arrest people taking photos local authorities may not want the world seeing (of protests for example, this happened in Manila just last year). I have seen some pretty ridiculous bad press on street photography, as I said the same people that will say it’s okay for social media to be manipulated (as long as it supports their agenda) or monitoring of emails is okay (if you’ve nothing to hide…) they make people afraid of a guy carrying a camera taking pics when all this is going on. A friend of mine was worried about street photographers when I asked him why he honestly didn’t know and then realised it wasn’t that big a deal. There are very simple existing laws to stop perverts and creeps in most countries around public decency and personal space, ie jumping in front of someone with a flash is low level assault and not something I would ever support, but then again this bad behaviour is less than 1% of street photographers.
Hey! I'm a photographer, age 59, and I won a clay sculpture contest in 3rd grade!!! Well, I was a runner up.... OK -- I get your point.......................
Wedding Photography is one of the only ways to make an honest living with a camera. Do five or ten gigs, and you're good for the year. But, boy do they earn it! You're constantly up-ending your routine, trying to network while also being invisible, always stressing over the next contract... Weddings chew up photographers for breakfast. I've known a couple and they sag at the memory. The successful ones need to have a very particular personality, and then they end up being seriously over-worked, their lives one long extended wedding party, endless tuxes and brides maids and the Pogues walking 500 miles. What does that do to your perception of reality?
What about Macro photographers? The true introverts of the photography world. We take pictures of really small things hoping that they look bigger...but it's not a personal reflection of ourselves (I swear)
Not mention that we slowly wander through public parks and alleyways, staring intensely at the grass for hours. Doesn’t help that when we actually take a photo, we have bizarre diffusers attached to our cameras and we slowly rock back and forth like Rain Man trying to get the focus right. We are not normal people.
I laughed so dang hard! LoL 1st, I am a squirrel photographer. 2nd. I am an outdoor, natural light, nude photographer, and I do it all with an SL1. 3rd. I have pugalistica dementia, so I'm just weird ! LoL LoL 😁
At first I thought this was a video posted from Toronto just a couple weeks ago, but then I realized I was actually on the Camera Thoughts From Siberia UA-cam channel. Silly me.
Kesey ! What happened to your city bro ? What’s it look like that ?? PS . This video was old school Kasey , classic Kasey ! I was on the floor dying ! 😂
Hahaha you’re spot on with the modern portrait goofs. The post retouching and manipulation of EVERYTHING in the photo Is so over the top it’s ridiculous with the glowing bullshit everywhere. Someone make it stop.
Just for inspiration for the next genre video. Astrophotographers spend hours in cold dark nights just for getting an image of space objects even though you can find thousand better pictures on Google instantly.
Landscapes lies... I remember I used to dowload thousand of photos from webshots (2001) wandering on what kind of camera they used, then flickr showed that, then I knew, I bought and I got very disappointed. Till one day the true was reveal, photoshop wizardy. What a... shame.
I'm glad I wasn't on the list. I mainly photograph motorsports, and it's actually hard to get good panning shots that are in focus and show the movement.
0:45 Oh, you’ve done it now, boy…Gavin Hardcastle (Fototripper) will be notified of these slanderous remarks against Landscape Photographers, you are in for it now.
agreed. i asked so many times, when ppl just showed new pictures of new relationships or wedding photos, if they can make also divorce photos when its all over. thats WAY more interesting.
I'm about halfway to the video and I haven't heard you say anything about astrophotographers one of the most prestige levels of photography. I could show you some pictures of the cosmos that I've taken that will blow your lid off.

I discard such pictures even if they are funny or amusing. It is one reason I keep away from shooting homeless people, beggars, etc. One needs to respect people and their circumstances. I belief if that is done then there is some instant mysterious communication and people often 'help' with some spontaneous gestures.
Just use a bigger rig and people will get in front of the camera lol.
@@hydromaniac7117 true, some people like to pose and be photographed.
Loved the beauty tip and the stupid face edit. Reminded me of your editing video which made me laugh hard
Ohhh, the beauty of spring time in Canada 🇨🇦 😍.... looks like you're walking through a bomb site!
Oooh boy, thats hits me in several ways, and I love it. Thanks
Love it, a great new rant to listen to, made my morning.
I feel personally attacked on all level, just the way it's intended for photographers.
Don’t be bro-
Dope name btw

I am here the 100% facts you relay. Refreshing. Thank you. Some real Gold today 👍🏼
More of this! And that sweet plaid camoflage.
Portrait Faker in the basement was the greatest. 😄
Lmao, this video made me realize just how bad I need to niche down. It's like you were scrolling my instagram feed while you made this video. I feel attacked on all levels. Lol
The hat reminds me of Holden Caulfield.
"like you know love" - lmfao, good one man!
This was really good today! Thanks 😊
We need a part 2 of this👌
My favorite CC post so far.
I have a feeling Kasey has heard the call to become a photographer and is desperately trying to talk himself out of it.
I’ve been thinking that same thing
lll-lOOOZer!!
I died on the portrait photographers 🤣
Divorce photography sounds like a genre made for me
I'm a street photographer with the Fujifilm flip screen, except it's the X70 because I'm poor. We rely on zone focusing, not auto focus, because we shoot Fujifilm. Get your shit together, Casey. 😂
Keep up the great work, from group 2 Street Creep.🙂
As a train videographer... I don't know how to feel right now...
Okay so I realized that what I said had little to do with what you actually asked. Yeah I'm in the same boat 🤣
hahahaha so offensive yet so damn frigging accurate lmao
Macro photography ? Food photography ? Or things like here in Asia such as: Pubes photography ? Armpit photography ? Toenails photography ? Legs hair photography ?
Great weather you got there...
I enjoyed my time years ago photographing sporting events!
Street photography is truth, those that value free speech and democracy should support it
"Street photography is truth, those that value free speech and democracy should support it "
It's not absolute though. There needs to be sensible restrictions on what ya'll can take pictures of.
How did you get the bannhammer emoji? What black magic is this!

Best video ever! Thank U !!!!
Hey! I'm a photographer, age 59, and I won a clay sculpture contest in 3rd grade!!! Well, I was a runner up.... OK -- I get your point.......................
"Divorce Photographer". I think you just gave me my late calling in life. :) And of course portraits of those who got stood-up at prom.
It's funny cause it's all true! How about food photographers? Or band/sports photographers?
What about Macro photographers? The true introverts of the photography world. We take pictures of really small things hoping that they look bigger...but it's not a personal reflection of ourselves (I swear)
Not mention that we slowly wander through public parks and alleyways, staring intensely at the grass for hours. Doesn’t help that when we actually take a photo, we have bizarre diffusers attached to our cameras and we slowly rock back and forth like Rain Man trying to get the focus right. We are not normal people.
missing a bus was funniest part
I laughed so dang hard! LoL
1st, I am a squirrel photographer.
2nd. I am an outdoor, natural light, nude photographer, and I do it all with an SL1.
3rd. I have pugalistica dementia, so I'm just weird ! LoL LoL 😁
As a wildlife videographer I .............................................100% agree
You’re a real genius. Thanks for the laughs
At first I thought this was a video posted from Toronto just a couple weeks ago, but then I realized I was actually on the Camera Thoughts From Siberia UA-cam channel. Silly me.
I mean the portrait photography bit was like 1471829% accurate 😂😂. Weird you did not mention Toneeeh 🤔
You identified them so well .. imagine doing all of that ;p lool
Kesey ! What happened to your city bro ? What’s it look like that ??
PS . This video was old school Kasey , classic Kasey ! I was on the floor dying ! 😂
Man, this was really funny. 😂
You are born for this, for sure. 😂
Hey man! I would loove to see you in Macro photography and video after this wild life episode of yours. Lool great comments on all genres...
What a... shame.
That's good content!
the great deceivers of the sky
😂😅😂😅
I take it as a compliment
🎉😊📷🖼️
Great breakdown. What genre would baby and abstract photography fall under? And product photography?
Babies are a product…
lol dude your the best
Kasey is that the hill you nearly died on?? divorces are more like action movie😂😂😂😂😂😂
Asstrophotography, ! Hundreds of pictures of tiny points of light and hours of sitting in cold nights for a few blurry shots of Uranus!
What about photojournalists?
I'm glad I wasn't on the list. I mainly photograph motorsports, and it's actually hard to get good panning shots that are in focus and show the movement.
0:45 Oh, you’ve done it now, boy…Gavin Hardcastle (Fototripper) will be notified of these slanderous remarks against Landscape Photographers, you are in for it now.
Oh, also, I'm subscribed now, prick!
Keep 'em coming!
Toneh.
I hate some street photos. They look goofy when someone is looking at the camera funny.
agreed. i asked so many times, when ppl just showed new pictures of new relationships or wedding photos, if they can make also divorce photos when its all over. thats WAY more interesting.
I'm about halfway to the video and I haven't heard you say anything about astrophotographers one of the most prestige levels of photography. I could show you some pictures of the cosmos that I've taken that will blow your lid off.
