This fight was really chaotic for us on PTR. Watching this guide...especially showing raid placement on Valanar should be very helpful for our progression.
The most dangerous part of this fight, not covered, is that their special abilities are offset from the health swap. It can swap to Valanar and he can immediately cast empowered shock vortex while you were still stacked up for Taldaram fireballs. It doesn't always do this, but it is possible. The health switching to Taldaram and getting an immediate empowered fireball when you aren't stacked and ready for it is also possible, but at least is somewhat manageable with good boots use and situational awareness by the target.
Yeah, weve had a few flame orbs "upgrade" mid cast so there was no chance to stack up 🥲 We solved this by not stacking on 10man HC. We have a melee run with it instead and that we've found is enough to weaken it. Also helps healers as no one is moving and getting the debuff. Just a lil rogue 😁
this fight is a prime example of why i hate the parse crowd. so many fights in ICC require that you do shit correctly over doing high damage. i'm sure someone is thinking "i parsed high and still got a kill, those other people suck" and likely because everyone had to work around them not doing the mechanics, healers healing extra etc.
For those of you who dont remember what water walking is... the way (pre TBC)... regaining mana from drinking used to work is you would only gain main during the server tick every couple of seconds... water walking was a method developed for healers in speed run type environments... essentially what you would do is walk, and just before the server tick hit, hit a keybind to drink (which would get you mana)... then resume walking... guzzling 100s of mage waters to keep the raid moving and mana full. This server tick thing also applied to something known as lava jumping ... essentially lava damage would only go out during server ticks... (back in classic, lava did 600 damage flat... which was a lot back then)... so you could theoretically traverse great distances in lava without any damage ever being applied to your character if you jumped out of the lava during the server tick. basically what you can do for this fight is walk.... then stop walking at the server tick... then resume walking again... and you wont pick up stacks from the aura debuff.
@@matthewmisko6535 Hey Matthew, yes this works (I got it working on PTR) but its not super reliable and the mechanic isn't super dangerous to begin with so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just move as little as you can and you should be good.
Your Videos are something else! Really like the depth of it and its easily understandable whats happening. Are you by any chance able to make a video about comparing 10man to 25man regarding differences? That would be a huge contribution to week 1 pumpers Keep up the good work mate! 💪
You could do that! Theres a lot of different tanking options on this fight - for prog I like having two tanks on each mob and then the caster on a separate character - evens out damage some, but this is really just preference. We did it a few times as you describe as well and it works great.
Yes this should be the default for most groups, especially if you normally use a DK as one of your main tanks. Splitting Valanar and Taldaram to two different tanks means you you've split your healing, and the damage each of them do is pretty high. I'd suggest having both on the same tank and concentrating your healing. Otherwise you may fall behind on healing split tanks as we did when we tried it on PTR.
I do that. I took acclimation just for this fight, and I was sitting at near 400 Shadow Resist. He was hitting for almost nothing, Avg bolt was ~3k, and ~10k when enraged. You don't have to do this though. On live, I'll probably try with my blood spec and see how it goes.

I might be missing something, but I cat really figure out from the video, if the OT or MT take over threat and the black orbs, when switching to purple orb boss. Or the warlock or who ever had orbs from phase 1 is just permanently tanking that boss. I'd appreciate it if you could clarify who is tanking him at what times. Thanks!
They simply aggro the last damaging ability to the person who did the ability. There is no threat manipulation with them, and things like taunts will not aggro them (not taunts that dont do damage)
Prot Paladin can easily do it. Hand of Reckoning glyph makes handling the Nuclei and Keleseth a breeze. You don't need your taunt on this fight, so you can do your rotation on him + spam Hammer of Wrath on him and Hand of Reckoning any Nuclei to bring them to you or other ranged abilities.
I'm in a guild that killed Anub H week 1, clears TOC+Uld in ~90-100 minutes and in a guild that still goes 4/5 some weeks and has killed Algalon twice, spends 6 hours to not even clear both raids, we both just happen to have 3 locks, 4 isn't a huge amount?
@@Booth- no im not, when did i deny using pets on the bombs, we were only using half our pets I wanted to use the dks too when we were struggling with the boss on the first day and received pushback.
@@Booth- If you're going to flame me at least flame me for my gameplay or something else cause there's easily 100x things because I was a proponent of using ALL pets on the orbs immediately so idk what you are referring to, but I am going to assume its taken out of context.

Great point, I definitely missed mentioning this.
Our raid group has had this issue a few times as well, resulting in a wipe but it's mainly from Tals fireball (We're a 10m group)

Please upvote. supposedly... you can avoid the aura mechanic... using a water walking WA. The stacks only apply on server tick.

Any reason for not just having a DK tank keleseth with IT spam and OT on the other two. Worked really well on pservers with boss buffs

Does using Distracting Shot work with the Nucleus ? i.e. the Hunter uses DS to shoot the Nucleus onto the Tank that needs them ?

Pro tip: if you have a weak aura to show server ticks, you can move in between server ticks on heroic and not stack ur debuff.
We were wiping on this boss over and over on PTR, and then it just clicked. Half the melee died, easy fight.
