    I mow our steep hillsides at work with a skid steer. It is spooky and when you hit a little divit and the skid steer rocks, that's no fun either. One of the hill sides I have to mow has a 150 foot cliff down to Puget Sound. No fun. We have a Cat 299D3.

    On your svl65/75 ever run into oil starvation concerns/issues on steep slopes?
    I currently have a ventrac for mowing my hilly land but I have a bunch of dirt work I need to do. Thinking about getting a svl65 with mower.

    Excuse me if a repeat question.
    We run Kubota 97 skids on 3:1 / 100-200ft slopes roll out sod horizontally. That slope looks 3:1, but may be wrong.
    Couldn’t you run horizontally to speed the cutting up? Would be a lot faster.
    Just wondering

    • @skidco
      @skidco  Рік тому

      I grade 3:1 slopes all the time and its steeper than 3:1. Its hard to get grade on camera. If I mow it again ill measure it. I can take a level with me and I also have an angle finder that I can use and convert it. The SVL 65 really surprised me that day. Ive mowed that hill with multiple other large heavily weighted machines and slid to the bottom. The 65 hardly slid at all going down it.

    With the 2,000 mower up front, would you feel safe cutting going uphill?

    • @skidco
      @skidco  2 роки тому

      It is so steep it won't go uphill. Its we better going down hill normally. I mow allot of steep areas. It always seems to go better down hill. Normally I loose traction going up and then if you slide backwards you are done being in control. If you slide going forward down the hill its easier to control the slide.

  • @restoreclassics
    @restoreclassics 3 роки тому +1

    Nope......I just turned down a slope like that. And I can tell that's a whopper of a slope. I mow with a 4wd tractor and 3 point mounted finish mower. Not worth losing a life for. Your setup was exactly what I suggested they try. They already tried it with a 60" ZTR. Not gonna happen. And my slope had trees scattered across it so you hardly had any straight paths up or down.

    • @skidco
      @skidco  3 роки тому +1

    Do you feel more comfortable brush mowing going downhill or uphill?

    • @skidco
      @skidco  2 роки тому

      Yes. Most times I feel better about going straight down if I can't go sideways. If I go up the hill it burns for fuel and if you slide it harder to control the slide. If your going straight down it thens its much easier to control. 45 degrees isn't good either for me.
      Thanks for watching.

      There are steep hills in Kansas? Lol jk I’m in Arkansas and I do lawn care and brush hogging, I use a kubota mx5400 I have the rear tires loaded and I have it spaced out as wide as I feel like I can have it without stressing axles too much. I do a lot of steep mowing as well and usually go straight up and down. The little tractor surprises me all the time on what I’m able to do with it! But I’m looking into adding an svl65 to my fleet! Enjoy the videos!

    Sort of a newbie with skid steers, what is the greatest concern here? You have a very heavy front mounted brush cutter so there is very little chance of flipping backwards due to the low front center of gravity. Going down hill, the attached equipment would also keep you from rolling forward. Additionally, it seemed to me that you went up the hill just fine later in the video. I'm not picking or criticizing you, as I said I am new at this. I have a hill at my house I first tried out my skid steer (half'ish the slope of this hill) and I was crapping peach pits the first time I was on it. The second time, I relaxed a bit and was soon turning circles while maneuvering/pulling trees. I had to trust the machine more and slowly learn the capabilities (operating a Cat 289D tracked). It comes down to this, how far can one safely discover the limits of the machine...or their nerves?

    • @jimharvard
      @jimharvard 2 роки тому +3

      let me offer a thought Getsum... going down a steep slope frontward may seem to be "no big deal", however, there still is the DANGER that one of the tracks will start slipping and cause the machine to turn sideways on the hill. on a slope this steep, you would not need to have the machine turn very far left or right for it to roll over and end up down against one of those large trees that were in this guys video. at least going down the slope you would have more time to react if you felt one side of the machine starting to slip. and going "up" the hill forward presents an even greater danger. if one track begins to spin, it will cause the machine to immediately turn sideways which will again result in the machine rolling over the hill and because your back is "down" the hill and you can't see anything, you would have a very hard time correcting the slide before the machine rolled over. every tractor site will tell operators that you ALWAYS mow DOWN a steep slope and never up or worse - sideways!!
