    Thank you for this video. My wife of 41 years marriage is a Malaysian citizen. We live in the UK and are both now in our 70's. Due to my wife's ill health and my disability I have accepted sooner or later one of us may need full time care. I am really concerned of my wife ever entering a residential care home in the UK. Many cases of ill treatment to the elderly have been documented by the media. We are visiting Malaysia this year and will seriously research the residential care market whilst we are there.

    Thank you for covering this important topic. In Australia, full time aged care is $5000 - $20,000 per month, per resident. It’s wild and there are so many elderly people who won’t be able to afford this (but need the care). Thank you for the detailed coverage.

    Such an important but little-covered topic, and so well done. Cambodia doesn't have any facilities like this yet, so this could be an option for people who need extra help or care and want to stay in the region. The prices are great given that you'd have barely any expenses outside of the monthly fee. Congratulations on a fantastic video! 🎉😊❤

    I'm Chinese American. I've been to Malaysia before, and I'm traveling there again to test out their healthcare system. I've arranged a few appointments which usually take weeks if not months to schedule in my town in the US. And that's not even considering the long waits for tests and any procedures following doctor visits. I'd rather pay out-of-pocket in Malaysia (which isn't much compared to America) and have everything completed within a week or so. We'll see how it goes. If this trip turns out well, I'll seriously consider retiring in Asia.

      Thats weeks & months waiting usually happened only in Malaysia GH if the patients’ condition wasn’t considered serious. For fast result, choose privates which I think affordable costs for most expats. Usually Malaysians will need their medical insurance to cover that if they intend to opt for private hospitals, but of course I think its a best alternative on the basis that almost zero waiting time, available specialists, comfortable surrounding & great facilities/ services. May your experience go smoothly & getting great results

    I'm so glad you showed this. I'm right at 62 and I've been concerned about needing assistance in years to come but haven't yet starting to investigate the subject. I'm still in the US caring for my elderly mother but I plan to eventually live in Vietnam, Thailand or Malaysia. When I have given Assisted Living a thought I guess I assumed I'd have to come back to the US. That was a dreary thought because I don' t want to live in a home with old judgmental Americans. I don't even want to think of the price of it. That one place you showed had peaceful and lovely grounds. I can see myself hanging out there as long a there's some expats to exchange notes with.

    My uncle had a live-in helper to help out with my late grandfather's day to day activities. My grandfather had a stroke and had trouble moving around by himself. So it became more difficult for my uncle at that point to handle everything by himself (he is a bachelor and living alone btw). So having a male live in helper was the best option for his situation. Just mentioning this to say that a live-in helper would also be an option if it comes down to it.

    • @garyt7232
      @garyt7232 10 місяців тому +2

      I hope the elder person and their family will do their due diligence when vetting a live-in helper. A distant cousin of mine hired one for his elderly parents. When the wife died, the live-in helper married the husband. He died shortly after the wedding under "mysterious circumstances", but not before he had his will changed leaving everything to that woman. She ended up sponsoring her whole family to come to America. I was told she and her family are living in their house living off of their lifelong savings. Buyer beware.

    • @ridzz
      @ridzz 10 місяців тому

      @@GUITARTIME2024 what does that have to do with anything?? my grandfather had mobility issues. There's no point in getting a female helper if she couldn't help him move from one room to another? There's a difference in getting a helper for cooking and cleaning and helper for mobility. My uncle didn't need any help with the cooking or cleaning. He just needs someone to help prevent injuries and move him around the house when he's not around. Unless u are that cruel to get a single female helper to bear the weight of a man around the house. That's ur preference, I suppose to get a female to do a man's job, but we prioritise safety from injuries from falling down for our late grandfather and that's what we did.

    Well Taylor, you should also find out if they offer long-term care insurance as well. I think my sisters (Malaysian citizens aged 52 and 58 and still working) paid RM$600/month each with RM$2 million annual limit. The catch is that they will most likely check for pre-existing condition to qualify or pay higher monthly premium, which makes sense.

Seem’s like a good alternative to the US senior care facilities in the states, not to mention the US prices start at $7,000 USD per month. I lived in Chiang Mai for 16 months and noticed advertisements for senior living facilities there as well. The SEA options look promising compared to the US.

    In the U.S., the monthly rent for assisted-living is over US$5,000 to $7,000 per month. It includes only one meal. Medical insurance takes care of your medical needs.
    US$650,000 is required as a deposit in an upscale assisted-living facility close to my home. It is returned to your beneficiaries once you are dead.
    Some facilities in the U.S. require only US$10,000 - $15,000 entrance fee. This is not reimbursable as far as I know.
    The prices of the nursing homes in Malaysia are high for Malaysians as you pointed out. Few people have $5,000 - $8,000 per month lying around.

    Thank you for the video!!!! It would be wonderful to continue this as a series since so few people cover it. At 57, I just found out that my long term care policy will work overseas. Of course, that is were all the details ended. Other than the price, it would be great to hear more details like how long does it take to apply and move in (waiting list?), organized activities for the residence, onsite health professionals, access to transportation (is it included), distance to shopping, can I automatically pay using direct deposit from a US bank? There is so much to learn about this stuff. Keep up the great work!!!

    Thanks Taylor. Like your style! I’m subscribed.
    It certainly a beautiful environment where you visited. I’m in Australia where a good standard of genuine care is scarce, particularly in high care nursing homes. Shortage of qualified nursing care here is a real issue.
    Waiting times for admission is an increasing problem here but what is most alarming is the history of significant cases of elder cruelty and abuse as outlined by a Royal Commission held in 2018. In this country I’m afraid you send your loved ones to these places in order to die a lonely and miserable death. We treat our pets better!

    Selecting a nursing home is similar to selecting a hotel. It depends on the type of facilities we need and how much you can afford to pay. We must pay more the more facilities we require. Having someone come see us on a regular basis and take care of our needs is an additional option we can think about. If we choose not to live in a nursing home, we may also arrange for daily food delivery and for someone to clean the house every two or three days. If we need someone to drive us to the hospital or clinic, there is also a voluntary service available. The most crucial requirement is that we have sufficient funds to cover any necessary services when they are needed.. So, don't worry, just be happy !!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving your insights on living as an Expat there in KL! I plan to become an Expat retiree in the foreseeable somewhere, but I am doing my research now. Wish I could make it happen tomorrow, but I am caring for my 86 year-old mother here the mid-south USA. I have been here for 22 years after leaving my native (and expensive) state of California for economic reasons. Some say California is a country of it's own in a way, so perhaps you can call me a "Californian Expat". 😀
    Malaysia is on my short list of Expat locations, and you helped make that happen! I should be able to quality for the new MM2H guidelines when I am ready to put the USA in my rear-view mirror, but I will do the Tourist Visa first to check things out when the time comes. P.S. please say hi to Earle Gray for me! 🐈

    Wow Mr Andrew, you are thinking so far ahead and preparing for such eventuality which prompted me to think of my own too.
    However there is one thing i'd like to share here. While writing my will, i found out that Malaysian Law do not recognise a "living will" (ie donee to be able to execute the will when the donor is alive but lies in a vegetative state or is so ill to be aware of his/her surroundings). So the donee (beneficiary) would not be able to use the money/assets to pay for the donor's medical costs. I hope the law will be revised soon, but until then, need to think of a way to get around it. Take care and all the best. 🙏🙏

    my partner says he would rather die at home than go to a nursing home. i kind of see what he means, it's a depressing end to life with your last memories on earth being mundane and "assisted", dragged on for years if you are unlucky. The best is just to drop dead at home with wonderful memories.

    Hello Taylor. 70? You look great! I’m moving to hua Hin Thailand in 15 months! Retiring at 56! I enjoy your videos. You are a good soul. I hope you weren’t harmed, but I was in hysterics watching Earl Grey take a little nip at you. Your reaction was priceless. Hope everything is copacetic with you two. I have a cat too. My biggest stress moving from LA to Thailand is getting my cat there! Fortunately I have found several pet shipping professionals. $4500. for the first class attention she will receive but I think it’s money well spent. One more thing… I loved the place you visited recently outside KL. The town started with an H. Anyway, it looked perfect! (Other than a lack of WiFi) ✌🏻and ❤ to you.

    Thanks for this video! Before you ever sign on the dotted line, please get full clarification about the conditions for going out from the facility. You mentioned that somebody must escort you outside. This may be a rather cumbersome rule as it would involve you signing a power of attorney. (There would need to be limitation in the powers, especially regarding your money) The other thing to watch out for is what would happen if the company becomes insolvent. From what you mention, this company has a good reputation. Good luck!

    Thank you so much for this information. It was exactly what I was looking for to answer some questions. We are trying to prepare for retirement and move to a place that we can afford to live in dignity. The US is getting so expensive if you are older -you must begin to prepare for the future years ahead and it is not affordable to get old in the US unless you have millions and know that the govt or corporations/health care will take it all.
