Coming from a black man whos been with a Hmong girl in the past. Her mom was very against it. Until she actually got to know me. Then she was ok and actually looked at me as her son. Even tho the relationship ended her mom still checks on me to make sure im ok. She adores me. And i really do love the Hmong culture youre a wonderful people.

You guys articulate your words so well lol. I would be very emotional talking about this. Not only am I in an interracial relationship, I am also in a same sex relationship. My family has been very welcoming to it but also like not? They call her my "phooj ywg." They love her but we're not married yet so they don't view her as my partner. The LGBT Hmong community is not very big, I only know 3 other Hmong people who identify as queer.
The rest of my siblings who are married are also not married to anyone who is Hmong. Out of my cousins, my siblings are the only ones who haven't married anyone who is Hmong. Thank you for putting your stories out there and helping us relate to it!

On the subject of interracial relationships & marriages, beyond America the Hmong ethnic group has for millennia been having interracial relations with other ethnic groups.
@6:30 - adding to what Dochi says my sister was in a cohabitating relationship with her bf who is white for 18yrs although they didn’t officially get married he loved her as if she was his wife complicated for another day but point is that he loves her very much. As for me I did married my Hmong husband like my mom wanted but at the end he did not love me in fact my ex always felt like he was forced to marry me bc my mom gave him an ultimatum. Fast forward, we married for 10yrs went through 2 infidelity both during the time of my pregnancy and in the end I did us both a favor to part ways although he never said it but based on his actions his heart was not in it anymore. As we got older and accomplished our goals the more we grew apart. Happily divorced now. I’m more open to a outside race now especially I don’t want to deal with the name of divorcee and I would not want to come between my future man with his family shaming me for being married once with 2kids. And outside race seem to be more open to accepting my past, I hope.

It's weird that most interracial relationships are between Asian women and non-Hmong men. Why is it so disproportional? I don't see a lot of Hmong men with African, Mexican or White spouses. But I see a lot of Hmong women with White, Black and Hispanic men. Why is that? Hmong men do not like colors of the rainbow perhaps?
That's a question for future research.
The way outside race views Asian men and women are very different. Outside race men view Asian women as exotic. Outside race women view Asian men pretty low we aren't a "prize" we are below average 😭 Ive seen asian male with non asian gf/wife but only a few enough to count on one hand and those guys all have a really big bank account lol
It isn't that. It's hmong men are very traditional. It is the guys who had the responsibility to. When the women get married, traditional mind thinking, you are marrying into the men's family. It is the men who leads. Us men are proud of our culture and too proud to a fault, I must say. Old traditional men are more closed while the new tradition, Christians, are more open to marrying outside of race
A lot of hmong sisters are marrying outside. Almost half the numbers. It is an astonishing number. If this continues the race will eventually be all mixed. I understand that the beauty standard is different. But it falls much much deeper. It is a topic that needs to be talked about.
The Hmong as a ethnic group is mixed. We are not a pure race.
Isn't it okay for mixed races to be the majority?
Yes I agree that high percent of the hmong women are scoring higher then the hmong men. I see alot of single hmong guys who isn't having any luck. I feel like if you want a wife and have kids? You'll probably have to go to Laos or Thailand to find a wife there. It's just my thoughts but if this keeps up alot down the line the hmong last names will slowly die out here. I'm having a hard time finding a really good non asian woman.

Very informative as a BM i ve started to be more curious about Asian women. So such information helps i come from a country where we dont have many asian people around us.
The negative stigma behind interracial dating in the Hmong community is: “You date outside your own people because you can’t do any better in the Hmong community”. Hmong people would rather have you date/marry a random in the community, and it’s “better” than marrying someone who is perfect for you who so happens to be a different race. It’s backwards and traditional thinking.

I had a different perspective growing up. I felt like people date in their community because they can't get anyone outside of it. I certainly didn't feel like I was suited to date non hmong people... until I did, and then I found that I preferred other races because of the contrast in cultural views. Currently in a happy healthy relationship with a white man. A partnership should be based on shared values and goals. I like the idea of the world being all "mutts".
Ive dated outside hmong girls. I mean outside of asians. It is really no different except they just not asians 😂. My first amwf was in 6th grade and im 36 yrs old now.
There’s nothing wrong with dating outside of your win race but I do think in the long run it will end our own race.. we’re already losing our culture as we are, language and tradition.. in 50 years we won’t have black hair anymore, we will just be mixed.. hmong will no longer be unless your in Asian countries.
What are you doing to ensure that you carry forth Hmong traditions?

I am a Hmong woman who has been married to an Italian-Polish man for a little over a decade now. I can speak on only my own experience. The difference can be exciting & adventurous, especially in the beginning, but the challenges can pose difficulties in communication & long term commitment.
