Just ordered mine. It's almost like it's a requirement to get the full ability out of the synth. I've had my D-05 since around the time it was released. Been looking at the DT-01 the whole time. Finally ordered one. Can't wait!
Hi..I would like to know if the DT01 is really a real time control. I know that moving a knob without retrigger a note..or play a new note..don't hear the variation in sound. Is It true? Thanks...🙂
I don't know if I understand the question but for some knobs you have to re-trigger the unit. Some knobs do work real time though for example the filter seems to working real-time. Other then that it's not a real time control in the sense that it sometimes gets stuck on MIDI notes "bricking" the device.
@@NickHabermehl interesting..!! Thank you... i'm still waiting the d05 at the end of the week. I bought It for 400€. A Great work of programming wait me. ✌🏻✌🏻🙂🙂
Not automatically. You have to select the menu you want to edit to see what you’re doing. Usually not a problemen except for selecting partials and effects etc.
@@NickHabermehl sorry to bug again, I have done that, but all my midi ports on the d05 are being used up by the dt01, leaving me with no way to plug in my keyboard to control it!? I tried through usb but it’s not working.
@@michaelmoore537 No worries you can ask me anything about the DT-01. Here's how mine is setup Arturia Keystep (MIDI OUT) > DT-01 (MIDI INPUT) > DT-01 (MIDI OUT) > D-05 (MIDI INPUT). If you set them all to the same MIDI channel your setup should work. Also turn on MIDI Excl. on the D-05 (in the function menu go to MIDI) otherwise it won't work.
@@NickHabermehl Hey Nick, can you please tell me how to set DT-01 midi channel? I read the instructions and I'm having trouble setting the ST-01 to midi channel 11, which is my D-05 midi channel. I followed the instructions, but there is no way to confirm the DT-01 midi channel has been set, and it doesn't seem to be controlling the D-05 when I turn knobs.
Regarding the stuck notes, the manual actually recommends NOT playing the D-05 while programming with the DT-01. Seems counter-intuitive to me and I came back to your video after reading that to try and see HOW you were playing and programming at the same time. So, it seems the device might be better suited for the actual D-50 with the keybed. I own the D-05. But, you were doing it, so I will try. The addition of a control to stop midi notes would have been great!
You are correct about the manual. It is counter intuitive to not be able to play. The DT-01 is more like a hardware editor then a normale controller. I noticed it gets stuck when setting an arp or something like that (lots of midi at once). Other than that it’s been stable.
That is true J, I read that too and I own a D-50, of course the problem isn´t there and I am glad I saved the money on the D-05. Yes it´s true the the D-05 is now more expensive than the D-50. This world is crazy in a bad way. Cheers
Im using the old orig. D50 rack version and since DT - 01 has been released I was always looking for somebody who could share his experiences with it and if this sticky or hanging notes are that bad or even often. Thanks for the Vid. :)) Cheers
I made a long video showing every feature of the DT-01. ua-cam.com/video/ePfA2dKbarU/v-deo.html I explored the functions more in a context of to edit the D50 patches in real time in live gig situations rather than how to slowly and meticulously program a perfect custom patch to store for later, but I still go through every knob and it's function nonetheless. I gave found it works most of the time but if I am running a sequence from my external midi keyboard and I twisting more than just a few knobs simultaniously or doing lots of editing really fast, then it crashes/gets sticky notes.
Great video, you making this helped inspire me to dig deeper into my DT-01 and set out to fully examine how it works. Cool to see other people who own one. As you know, there's very little info on these. Probanly because they assume thr only people buying it are PG-1000 experienced people or are people who already understand Roland D-50's very specific architecture from hours of menu diving . Lets be honest this controller is horrible and there is no useful manual or tutorial on how to use it. At least you showed me how to use the Cut Off Freq... Thanks!
Can you explain why you say it's horrible? I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely interested. I'm an old guy who bought my D550 new around 87 and given that my Kiwi Patch Editor doesn't have a D50 map, am finally(!) pondering either one of these or paying the stupid $ for a PG1000, and honestly wonder why you say it's horrible. Do you or have you owned one? What about it made you not like it? Respond or not as you please, kind regards either way.

Lekker praten
thanks for making this, pg 1000 is more expensive than the actual synth itself. DT01 is a great addition
Thanks for sharing I have module D550. It Drtonics DT01 works whit this module?
that was super helpful! thanks dude!
No problem. Feel free to ask any questions of you still have them!

Hi. Thank you for sharing.
Does the D-05 shows the parameters changing while dialing the DT-01?
Not automatically. You have to select the menu you want to edit to see what you’re doing. Usually not a problemen except for selecting partials and effects etc.
How do you connect it and control it with a MIDI controller simultaneously?
Set the MIDI channel of the DT-01 and D-05 to the same channel.

Does the Controll works over USB?
Have you found issues playing the D-05 while tweaking parameters on the DT-01?
I've heard of stuck notes and other issues.
@@kennymester Yes in the video at 10:30 you'll see it happen. My guess is its not meant to be played live but is more of a hardware patch editor.
@@NickHabermehl that’s slightly unfortunate. I’ve been looking at one of these to tweak live but it seems like this may end up having issues.
@@kennymester yeah I wouldn’t recommend it for that usage. I still wonder if this was also like that ont the D-50 with the PG1000 programmer.
