Very cool to see you two playing this! One tip, when you opened that first door, you actually pause as soon as the door is opened to set up the next room and draw ability cards for the monsters. Then, if you have any movement left over, you can keep moving if you want. You can also use the boots in the middle of moving, you don't have to decide to use them right away.
I don’t usually watch playthroughs. It’s a combination of lack of time (videos are typically long) with, often, little familiarity with the game, but this was a breeze to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed following along and there may even have been a fist pump or two… Well done, Monique and Naveen!
I don't think you can use Follow Through bonus +2 at the same time when you put your favourite token on the enemy at 21:00. It's supposed to be a stronger attack on the enemy that already has your favourite axe - hence the name of the card "follow through". You move the token 'after the attack is resolved'.
I am very delighted to see you play this game, it is one of my favorites (like Hatchet’s Favorite!). Don’t forget you can trash a card to ignore damage. The Demolitionist did not need to take all that damage early on. Great job on the play through!
Hatchet is such a great character!! We played through as Hatchet / Red Guard. Love how JOTL is so much more accessible - much easier to get to the table. Great playthrough guys, you always do such amazing content!
Thanks FtM - I was also so happy to see the addition of playing right out of a book - simplifies setup AND gives you unique art for the different locations.
This game seems really interesting. Anybody can suggest other games with similar details or more? Nice video by the way ^^ I love how each one of you have a different way of organizing their cards.
Great video and a fun watch! I totally forgot about that rule where you can lose a card to negate damage! That would've been critical in my last fight!!.. Well, live and learn. lol Thanks!
Around 21:40 I don't think the condition for having the token on the monster applies when you are using the hatchet on that attack. The token is not on the monster before after the attack, but correct me if I'm wrong ;)
another mistake they made (and i used to make it always) is that when paying 1 health to pick another card to discard, you must put back the one that just came out, so it can come out again
@@ezunino1711 I do not think this is correct. You put the card on your hand and draw a new random card from the remaining. See JotL rules page 17 (upper right corner). This rule is the same for Gloomhaven. "If the character would rather keep the card that was lost, they may suffer 1 damage to lose a different random card from their discard pile instead, but this can only be done once per short rest."
HI Daniel, we have a full tutorial series on how to play Jaws of the Lion, and I'd have to direct you there, as I don't recall off the top of my head (but my memory says yes).
This was great! I clicked thinking it would be on Monique and Naveen’s channel but what a surprise - a fantastic partnership if I may say so. I’ve been diving deep into the original Gloomhaven recently so it’s fun to see the updated release without being super spoiled on a later scenario.
Glad you enjoyed! Yes, this is part of the original 5 tutorial missions in the game, and we figured the last one would help us show off the full rules, without giving away anything outside of the tutorial missions.
Not that it matters for final result (well done Hatchet!) but boss should heal 1 when Monique got hit by zealot at 36:15. Edit: No, it shouldn't. All heals were prevented.
When entering new room at 13:40 I believe you can pause your movement on the door, set up the monsters (including their action cards with initiative) and then decide how far into the room you go.
Hi! Thanks so much! We haven't had much experience with these genres of games prior to playing JoTL actually, but now we are in an active campaign to finish it out with another friend. So maybe the start of something new? haha
Nice video!, So I have a question, when Monique made a long rest, she was at 2 health due to the wound, so, she heal 2, 1 is used to get rid of the wound token and keeps 1 to heal herself, so, her health should be 3. Instead she get rid of the wound token due to the long rest and heal to 4!.... Is that a mistake or I'm missing something?
@@WatchItPlayed you know, I just re check the rule book, and it says that just with healing, the wound is retired, and you heal all the amount of the own heal... So, Monique was right!, Due to the healing she remove the wound token and heal 2 points, ..... My mistake
Monique charged it, but she's not the one using it, the enemy is, right? Had a quick look at the segment you referred to, and I think that's what I saw.
Hey Tope, the card I'm seeing on top for the Zealot doesn't show any movement that I can see, can you double check the card you're referring to, to make sure you're not mistaken (you might need to watch on a larger screen to see the smaller print). For your other question below, it sounds a but more like a strategy question. When it comes to questions of why a person did one thing instead of another in a game play, that's harder to answer several months later. That said, if you are concerned about ensuring you have the rules correct, we have a full tutorial dedicated to teaching the rules right here on the channel, which you can check out. Hope that helps!
@@WatchItPlayed thx for the anwers. For my first question: the Zealot stats card (where you can see their HP, movement, attack , etc) shows that Zealots can move 2. Additionaly, the have "Unholy flame" which gives them 3 range. If I understand this correctly, the Zealot could have moved 2, this would put him in range. Then attack with: 3 (from the stats card) + 1 from "Unholy Flame" - 1 from the mod deck = 3 attack, which would have killed the demo.
@@MexicanMaggot Ah yes, this is what I mean about directing you to the tutorial videos. The game plays don't teach the game (though you may pick up on some of the rules here), these are better appreciated once you know the rules of the game, and want to see them in action. For example, this the section you'll want to check to understand why the monster doesn't move in that case, taken from the tutorial video: ua-cam.com/video/2BKuCmPCVu0/v-deo.html
There is a great app that allows you to track health, experience and coins, as well as elements and enemy stats. Saves having to pull out a lot of the cards and bits. A must have IMHO. It’s called Gloomhaven Helper.
@@zero11010 The app automates some of the fiddly tracking stuff and keeps some of the small cardboard pieces and monster attack deck in the box (when playing with younger players this is a huge plus). The map, minis and cards are great. As you can see from the video, there is a lot of interaction between players that might be lost in a digital format.
@@zero11010 there is already a gloomhaven digital game, in steam. its good, but i rather played it the old way, it may take longer, but it's just better in my opinion
