I was *this* close to bursting into tears in front of my wife and kids because I couldn't pack up a board game. You saved my pride. My family. My life! ;) Sincerely though, thank you for this. I would have had no bloody idea how to pack this beast away.
We finished recording our first few videos and was like "how do I put this back?" and my wife was like "wait I saw a video earlier about it" Wasn't surprised to see it was you. :)
Thank you so much for this video. The two keys were to take the minis out of their boxes (I also flattened and tucked them into the side like you did) and to stand the monster cards/bags sideways. Without those two tricks, I don't think it's possible to get the components back in the box!
I definitely used this to get my stuff back in the box tonight, thanks! The only change I made was to put the enemy stat cards and their sleeves on top of the baggies...that way I don't have to remove every single baggie for every scenario.
Honestly, I have no idea why this didn't occur to me. I think it may be that I felt they wouldn't rest nicely on the bags, or because I'm anticipating the release of Gloomhaven Helper's JOTL update so I won't need to use the enemy cards & life trackers, period. But, even still, I may make the adjustment. Thanks for the feedback!
I haven't opened my copy yet bc I was afraid I might not be able to manage putting the stuff back in. This is going to help a ton!! Thanks for taking the time to post this vid.
I had just received my copy today and this really helps and i even manage to return everything without removing the a single component including the minis still in their boxes. Everything's Neat and flush! If i could just share a pic of my work hehe
What I did was remove the card board standees from the monster bags and put them in a small bead container from the crafts section in a big box store. It’s not everything back in the box tho, haha. I like the bead containers because I think it makes for easier and quicker access to components. I’ve done the same for Mansions of Madness and Android and it works really well but like I said this method means not everything goes back in the original box.
Nice work! In truth, since I haven't painted my minis, the boxes are a bit of an inconvenience. My fat fingers bend them a little more every time I open them, so even in base GH, active characters I kept outside of the boxes.
Hi From France. Just unboxed and first triage... For me i'm near sure i'll buy an "organizer" or "insert", just need to find which one i'll take... so many models, and price and France delivery equation to solve. More i'll buy the removable stickers, for me impossible to make a permanent modification that damage the board of want to replay again. And sleeve some cards if not all.
Bonjour! I totally get it hat you mean about wanting to sleeve your game and get removable stickers to play again, even if it’s not how I play. I was just playing Frosthaven last night and thinking about how I’ll replay it some day, which I think I’ll be able to do but we’ll just keep a journal instead since the hidden content will already be known. Hope you have an excellent new year!
How I managed to do everything was I downloaded Gloomhaven Helper, which made ~30% of the components in the box completely irrelevant. I removed: Status tokens Damage tokens Elements board Monster cards Player dials Monster big square cards Monster envelope thing And I’m sure some other stuff, but I can’t remember right now. After removing these things (Gloomhaven Helper tracks all these things) I was able to get it flush without any issue. The monster standees just go into the bags. The tokens I had in the component tray were then split up in a way that seemed better. TL;DR Gloomhaven Helper is the best and if you don’t download it, you’re making your life way more difficult.
Watching this video on its one year anniversary, going to be starting Jaws of the Lion in a little over a week. Already have "real" Gloomhaven ready to go after that, and removeable stickers for each! No Solo Scenarios or Forgotten Circles yet, but I figure I can wait a while before I worry about those.
I made one easy mod to the insert that allows me to fit everything (except the health/xp trackers) into the box without bending dividers, squishing the standee bags... ets... I'll have to make a vid... :D I pretty much cut out the bottom of where the city events go, so the divider doesn't sit up above everything else... Also I cut underneath the player boxes a little pocket/shelf for the square enemy cards to give more space for the standees to sit lower... This worked well as the player boxes slot is actually slightly elevated... This setup works perfectly... Give it a try...
I keep the monster cards all in two zip bags and have the standees in their separate bags. Everything fits with minis in tug boxes. Standee feet and monster events go on top of the monster floppy disks and then all the monster standees on top of that and between the card empty spots on the left. The health dials then in the original box position. Have space for another two rule books.
Thank you goood sir! We're starting the game tomorrow, so I just started punching and sorting everything, but couldn't really put all the stuff back. Sadly, there's no room for sleeved cards
Hi there, Greetings from the UK! My game arrived yesterday and I haven't played it yet although I have bagged the monsters etc. I'm having fun just boxing and unboxing until I get time to play - everything fits exactly as you say!!
I was able to get it all back in without any problems. Lay the monster baggies flat, laying one on top of the other at 90 degree angles so they maximise space. Then slot the dials wherever they fit (two under the token tray, two wherever) and the manuals fit back in fine.
I removed the insert and used 6 Upper Deck card storage boxes. 4 hold all of the character decks and information, separated between active saved player and additional decks. The 5th holds battle cards and city cards. The last holds items, blessing/curses, and monster modifier deck. I removed the tuck boxes for the 4 classes. Doing this, I can easily store everything in the box while having easy setup for the characters.
I can't fit everything with the insert. Sleeves, maybe a mix of sleeves and ziplocks causes it. I removed the insert. Everythings piled in the box in various ziplocks. Filled to brim (and minis are stored separately😅). I do appreciate how unbelievably dense the box is.
I added the each monster initiative token to the corresponding monster bag. so i need to open only one bag. In each character box there is a bag with all the active actions cards + tokens + init tracker.
Just got the game today _/love_ I'm having no issues getting things back in the box while getting the box to fully shut. It's nice you made a video for anyone who's frustrated with this though! Happy gaming! :D
Only the Supplementary Scenario Book? Where is the main one? Having to stack those two ring binders on top of each other is what does my packing in at the end.
Nah, I have no concern for them in there. It's not loose. I'd have some concerns if they were painted, but if that were the case I would put enemy bases lengthwise at the bottom of that area, then roll the minis carefully in a felt strip about the width of the opening, then tuck them in there safely. Or, individual baggies would do the trick too, but way more of a pain in the butt.
I love the idea of storing the cards with the standees. I don't know why they couldn't just make a bigger box and make it easier to store all the content. Just an inch more would've made a big difference. (That's what she said)
The only thing i do different is i have individual baggies inside each character box that holds their abilities and combat modifiers, and the little tokens. This way i know everything that i actively use is in one bag. Also, i use this as a component organizer. This fits perfectly in the box and keeps everything secure. www.michaels.com/craftmates-lockables-organizer-3xl/10314887.html
in a legacy/campaign game, I kinda like to see how it wears out and the cards are not too terrible. Since it is coop it is not as bad when you notice a card from its worn out backside unless maybe the modifier cards. But I think the game tells a story by its worn out components itself and you will have memories with some components, so I say it adds to the flair in this game.
Following your vid I managed to get everything back in the box even with the figures still in theirs! Seems ridiculous that they make the box so stupidly small for the quantity of items in there. Surely it’s not a cost saving?
Holy crap I'm a noob with these board games. I'm going to pick this one up, I like that this can be played alone, but I'm hoping my 11yr old can play this with me. Maybe even the wife?
I played through with my wife and had a blast. I have no doubt that an 11 year old who has familiarity with basic video or tabletop game mechanics could pick it up pretty easily. Feel free to hit me up at cardboardherald@gmail.com if you need some tips on getting started or making it easier to on-board friends & family when it comes to this big ol' world of board games.
Storing the monsters' bags was my biggest challenge. This helped - thank you!
I was *this* close to bursting into tears in front of my wife and kids because I couldn't pack up a board game.
You saved my pride. My family. My life! ;)
Sincerely though, thank you for this. I would have had no bloody idea how to pack this beast away.
I’m here to serve. Glad it worked out!
We finished recording our first few videos and was like "how do I put this back?" and my wife was like "wait I saw a video earlier about it"
Wasn't surprised to see it was you. :)
Hah! That's awesome. Hope you guys got it figured out. Let me know if you got your own hot strats!
Thank you so much for this video. The two keys were to take the minis out of their boxes (I also flattened and tucked them into the side like you did) and to stand the monster cards/bags sideways. Without those two tricks, I don't think it's possible to get the components back in the box!
Nice job, thanks! I'm gonna have to give some thought to the miniatures since I hope to paint them.
I definitely used this to get my stuff back in the box tonight, thanks! The only change I made was to put the enemy stat cards and their sleeves on top of the baggies...that way I don't have to remove every single baggie for every scenario.

I think that also, but I was afraid when I close the box the enemy stat card bend, did that happen to you?
In the character envelopes, we put mechanical pencils too. Thank you, you are a life saver
I haven't opened my copy yet bc I was afraid I might not be able to manage putting the stuff back in. This is going to help a ton!! Thanks for taking the time to post this vid.
You are most welcome! Thanks for watching.
dood, ching im having that issue now. Did you end up playing?
Thank you for helping me get all that back in the box.
Terrence Miltner you’re welcome!

Thanks man, very helpful. I actually did get it flush without breaking down the boxes with a little TLC.
Nice work! In truth, since I haven't painted my minis, the boxes are a bit of an inconvenience. My fat fingers bend them a little more every time I open them, so even in base GH, active characters I kept outside of the boxes.

Having the physical pieces feels better to me 😂 props to you for making your life easier, guess I just like to do things the hard way
This is so much helpful. Thank you. I guess I won't be sleeving the cards then
You are very welcome!

Helped me & saved the money for an insert - thanks alot!
I could fit the enemy standies somewhere between the cards when I separated them into two bags (one for the white and one for the yellow)
Thank you so much, followed your guide exactly and everything fit just as you described!
Thanks, I'm gonna try this! I'm tired of seeing a gallon size Ziploc baggie rubber-banded to the box, sitting on my shelf.

Hint: use the rubber band that comes holding the plastic bags to hold the tray lid.
Thanks for that! One year later and I purchased a new copy in my native language and had to do It all again, plus the rubber band tip 😂
@@marlonsantana21 huh, talk about lending yourself a hand

Glad it worked out and hope you enjoy the game! Cheers from Alaska!
Thank you! This was extremely helpful!
Glad it helped, have a great new year!
I actually manage to get it fully closed without removing anything. I think its because how i tetris the enemy baggies into place each time.
Thank you!! Good thing I checked your vid before opening the box!!!

Happy to be of service!
A 10 minute video on how to store a board game.
Idk what to say but saying this must mean something lmaooo
The video I never knew I wanted so much.
This was great. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Perfect. Thank you

OMG thank you this was so helpful I was getting so irritated!
amazing video, thank you!
Aasem Ahmad glad it helped!
Super helpful! Thanks so much.
Very helpful video, thanks.
Thank you! Your video really helped us out!
Pretty useful! Thanks!
Thank you for that. Very helpful.
hschwarz75 you are very welcome. 😀
Overall, great video. My only concern would be the storage of the miniatures. They won't get damaged/bent?

Love it!
There's no hope for sleeved cards, I guess.
Sadly, no. RIP the insert if ye be sleeving cards.

anyone whos watching this just started playing Jotl, also already had preorder gloomhaven/frosthaven
Awesome mate, thank you
You're welcome!
I've managed to fit all the content without folding the boxes, using a method based on yours. I can share pictures if you want.
Following your vid I managed to get everything back in the box even with the figures still in theirs! Seems ridiculous that they make the box so stupidly small for the quantity of items in there. Surely it’s not a cost saving?
