Has anyone else got an older piece of tech that they hang onto because it’s just so great?
I also have a 13” 2013 MacBook Pro that still works really well for me. I’m looking to buy a new MBP, but trying to decide if I should go for a refurbished 2015 model or take the leap for the newest model. 🤔
Actually bought a new 2020 pro and have gone back to my upgraded 2012 pro love it
Thinkpad X230 with a X220 keyboard. Cant find anything better.
I have a US Robotics Palm Pilot that still works.
@@markevans3284 I got a spec out version, haven't didn't much video editing to talk about just a bit and it works fine,, I think the latest 2022 mbp 14 looks like it ,with better spec screen and chip (display is damaged ) hdmi port helps alot to 4k TV one is oled and it looks and works great still latest Catalina on screen but battery is also faulty now it powers down and it's still got plenty of charge , mite replace or update to later device or fix both display and battery
i got a high(er) end 2013 modal with an i7, 16gb ram, and 1tb ssd for $600, the shop also did replaced the battery before i got it. i certainly agree it kicks ass for an older piece of tech, despite not having features you spoke of that some people have come to expect with modern macbooks
Very nice. Pretty fully specced out!
Had one since it was first released. Still works like a charm!
I bought mine since it was first released too. It still works but the sad thing is I use my computer for editing content and I don’t have much space. What USB HDD do you use? Any suggestions?
@@Chidoh719 Well, I just use the stock drive it came with. I never modified anything besides replacing the RAM.
I use it to edit videos too, but all I do to save space is either save the separate video contents on USB sticks I have or delete them. (The separate video contents used to put the video together, not the end product which I of course keep)
How about battery?
just bought one a few days ago on ebay for $369, nervous cause ive never spent this much on one item before and hope i made the right decision lol! thank you for the vid!!
You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it. That's a pretty good price for it 😁
@@2inz what?
So Newegg currently has the MacBook Pro, late 2012 retina I5 3rd gen 8GB memory with 120gb SSD on sale for $303
what macos do you use?
@@ihsanAgaz catalina
One of the most underrated UA-cam channels thanks for the video I just bought one today! I’m excited to see how it performs!
Thanks! Glad the video helped and hope you enjoy your new MacBook! We were thinking of doing more videos like this and getting hold of other older macs, so hopefully they will be as useful to people 😇
How it is performing after 2 year
Im actually looking for one of these. I have a non-Retina 2012 Macbook pro I love. But id love to have the better resolution. Thanks for the video :-)
one I got has two USB 3 ports, one Thunderbolt 2 port, one FireWire port, one Ethernet port, an SD card reader, headphone jack and a DVD/CD drive that can read and write. All this with 16gb of DDR3 ram (1600), an i5 3rd gen clocked at 3.1 and a 1tb SSD = PERFECTION
You must’ve gotten the thicker MBP cause after the retina they stopped including a CD drive
Just bought one for 300€ on eBay! Loved the vid, thanks!
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy the Mac
Hi, do you think it’s worth it?
How is laptop on eBay..I have plan to buy Mac book
just bought mbp non retina 2012. 16gb ram. 1tb ssd & new battery for 650. value for money even in 2021
I'm not going to lie to you man, that's kind of a rip off unfortunately lol. Definitely a good machine, and I'm glad that you like it, but you overpaid by about $300 to 400 bucks, you could upgrade to 16 GB of RAM for like 40 bucks, get a one terabyte SSD for like 80 bucks, and the battery for like $50, and a lot of the time you can get an i5 2012 in a really good condition for like $150, total would be around $350, and it wouldn't take you more than a few minutes to do the upgrades. At the end of the day, at least you're not paying like $1,400 bucks, but it hurts me to know that you paid so much for it lol. You should try looking for one for like $150, putting in 150 bucks worth of upgrade, and selling it to someone for 650 lol I'm thinking about buying a few and doing that
Rip off you could get 2017 macbook pro with that price with touch bar
A $56 16GB RAM upgrade, and a $49 Kingston SSD upgrade does magic!!!
I got a mid 2012 with an i5, for $150.
I did the desperately needed upgrades. Runs like a new MacBook!
It originally had a pathetic 4GB of RAM, and a shotty 10 year old HDD.
What a price! Some very nice upgrades there. Might have to try it ourselves.
@@BaldingGamers Most definitely! It is a great machine!
Hey there can you plz tell me about its battery timing
Do you think upgrading the SSD boost the performance? My Current SSD only read/write around 400mbps.
I've had one since 2015 and it's still good
i still use this for my daily , what do you think the best macos for this device?
Personally Mojave was best for me. After upgrading to Catalina it slowed down a bit.
Sonoma.
@@mehere8-32 this one already gone. I use M1pro for now
Purchased a June 2012 model for $240. USD. It's all fine, except it will not upgrade to any usable OS. UA-cam, Facebook, or any creators software will not work. Please make a video showing how to overcome Apple' s abandonment to these older units.
just picked one up for $203 USD!!!! Couldn't be happier
That's an awesome deal!
I just buy one today! I’m so happy ! Hope thats gonna works well !
i just bought mine just a few days ago ❤️ it really performs very well
That’s awesome! Hope you enjoy it
I have 2 both - i5 - 16 gb ram and ssd one with Sonoma the other runs Ubuntu Budgie. New batteries. Great Machines.
Hi, I'm also thinking to buy 2012, i5, 8GB, 500GB. Should I buy? I just want to browse things like opening websites for orders. Should I buy it? Kindly inform me when you are free.
@@Believe-mi If you can find a good one buy it. Cheers.
Shall I get one of these as my music production device? I mainly run Avid Pro Tools 10HD and Logic 9, will this be a good choice? A local store is selling these laptops for around $270-$350, they are in good shape and around 300 charge cycles. What do you think?
just got one 1 week ago ,put a 500gb ssd might solder 16gb ram in the future...
Very nice!
@@BaldingGamers thanks buddy
What if I’m just using it for writing mostly and basic browsing? I just found a used i7 2012 model and I don’t care about OS updates in the future since I’m only using it for basic functions. Would it be worth to buy now as far as battery and screen longevity
For that use case this will be perfect. I still use mine for writing on as it's a little more portable than my 16 inch Macbook Pro. Still a great machine.
@@BaldingGamers yayyy this is wonderful and thank you so much for thee fast reply. Quick question...I never understood those thunderbolt ports so if I were to get a portable mobile external monitor that has usb-c would I be able to connect the usb-c that comes with the external monitor into the MacBook that has the thunderbolt? And if so would it be enough power for the external display to not have to connect the external display to a power adaptor?
Just curious....
Got mine MacBook Pro 13’ mid 2012 16 gb ram and 512 SSD use for music and videos production run🔥🔥🔥
I just bought one for $420NZD. It's got 8gb ram(might upgrade later) and 128gb ssd (very happy with that) and the battery cycle count is at 960 which is okay, but overall very excited :)
How's the overall performance, Miss? I am looking to get one myself with the same specs actually. Would it run Photoshop decently?
Unfortunately you can't upgrade the RAM as it's soldered onto the board, I bought a 16 GB kit before I even got it and then I opened it and realized lmao
Is it worth it to buy it right now? Considering I'll be using it for at least 5 more years for music production
Honestly, probably not. It's a competent machine, but as of right now it won't be getting future OS updates, so in five years time you might be facing compatibility issues. If it was a short term stop gap, then maybe, but for a longer period of time it's probably not worth it.
@@BaldingGamers how abt 2 years?
i wish to buy this as my first laptop. what is your opinion? i heard pros from everywhere. let me know its cons sir
There is none😎
This is quite a very informative video, I'm planning in buying one macbook pro late 2012 i5 8gb and 256gb ssd for $350 USD it's a refurbished mac A- grade , just wondering if the price it's right any thoughts will be appreciated it, thanks!
Seems like a reasonable price!
@@BaldingGamers thanks for replying, I will get it tomorrow!.
Nice! Hope you enjoy it.

Can you make a tutorial on battery replacement
Is that the A1278 ?
Anyone know which USB HDD works best for this MacBook Pro 2012?
Its 2024 and im going to get it now
Hi, How is going your MacBook 2012? Did you buy? I'm also thinking to buy.
@@Believe-mi yes I bought it had it 7 months now and I just use it for assignments at school no games or fancy things so I wouldn't know how they perform with games etc But I'm happy I do love it.
@@topshamahs I'm glad to hear it's working well for you. I'm similar to you, I don't need it for gaming or video editing. I just want a reliable laptop for browsing, opening websites, and occasionally creating simple websites or landing pages. I don't need any fancy features, just something that can handle basic tasks smoothly. Do you think the 2012 MacBook Pro i5 would be sufficient for that?
@@Believe-mi absolutely! Give it a try you'll see that reliability is tops 👌🏼
If Sidecar is an issue, then Duet Display works on this machine, and a wider range of iPad and Android tablets
That's a really good shout. I used to use Duet and it was pretty great. Also used Luna, but that required a separate dongle. Thanks for the comment!
@@BaldingGamers I have a 13" non retina 2012 MacBook Pro (with 16 GB RAM and an SSD) and connect an iPad 2 with Duet Display!!! I think the battery is much easier to change on the non-retina version..if anything breaks the spare parts are easy to find, and often easy to replace.. if I need higher resolution display just add a monitor
plus with Apple's Thunderbolt 32 adaptor the new world of Thunderbolt 3 devices opens up to the old world of the 2012 MacBook Pro.. Thunderbolt 1 is still 2x speed of USB 3.0
Still good this 2023?
i’m about to buy one for 150 i hope it’s worth it
That seems like a pretty reasonable price!
@@BaldingGamers okay!!
I got a Late 2012 Retina acbook Pro
I just bought the Late 2012 13" with an i7 and upgraded 512GB SSD for $300 CAD or about £175 in September 2021.
Close to mint condition and under 300 charge cycles on the battery (reporting it needs service regardless). Really got it on a lark, as a way to get back into macOS after 3 years away and while I wait to order a 14" Apple Silicon powered MBP.
I think the fact a 9 year old MacBook demands about 15% of the original new price means buying a brand new MacBook and taking care of it is a winning proposition. So long as you take care of it / don't lose or break it, you'll be able to sell it at any point for a reasonable return and the longer you keep it, the better value it becomes.
I figure ordering a new 14" MBP this fall will be a decent investment as the new form factor will remain in place for 5-10 years. Glad I was able to skip the whole 2016+ butterfly keyboard and of course anyone who bought an M1 powered machine in the last 12 months really didn't do themselves any favours. Like me they should have bought a really old used one and waited for the new industrial design.
what bluetooth dose this support
stop waving the MacBook around, we cant see it ..
My bad! I really shouldn't hold things otherwise I fidget.
Hey mate if your looking to sell this I’ll be happy to negotiate it from you ? I kinda need a laptop for college ahaha
The smart side of me knows I should shift it, but me and that MacBook have gone through so much together, it's like part of the family 😂
@@BaldingGamers ahah fair enough mate was worth the try
Very good thank you
Can I get one in 2024?
get keeps, bro. Start microneedling that scalp bro
it useless. even youtube stutters and doesnt play in hd
