Hi. I was wondering if you've ever built a bigger screen, approximately 60" H x 36" W? If so, did you need a center brace to help hold the middle width from pulling in? Since the kits don't come with that, what did you use to make one? Let me know please. This will be my first bigger screen I'm making and want to do it right the first time. Thank you.
I built the frame and used new screen and spline, but no matter how hard I trird the long sides bowed in a bit. I ended up just buying 1/4" wooden square dowel, cut it the right length to hold the sides apart and painted it black to match the screen. Its a temporary solution. But thats why you typically see longer screen windows with a center metal brace to hold the shape.@@Future_Legend_Told_Me
Do you find that types of screen material (fiberglass vs. aluminum) make a big difference in the quality of their life, preference in tenants? Do you just use standard?
@@EverydayHomeRepairs Thanks for your reply. I bought the Screen Tight window screen kit from Home Depot. If I install the screen from inside where the pull tabs are, the spline is facing outside. If I install it from the outside, the pull tags are visible outside. I need to install it from the inside for 2nd floor rooms because it is much easier.
There are springs in the top/bottom of the frame, just push the frame upward, and gently pop the bottom of the frame loose and take it out. Reverse to install
Oh , I was describing a patio door assembly. There should be plastic locking tabs at the top of the screen, you'll have to tilt your window in as well , to get the screen out from the inside
Hey Heidi, at least from my point of view when you have a large hole like this it is just easier to rescreen the entire screen. Best of luck on your repair.
@@HG-ol1tq if the frame is in good shape then I prefer to just rescreen the existing frame but if the frame is damaged/bent then I agree the screen kits are a good option. Thanks!
@@EverydayHomeRepairs ... I edited my last comment because your video has value to most ppl who want to replace the whole screen. Unfortunately, i live in an apt on the 3rd floor and the screen is stuck in the window pane and i was looking for an easier way to repair it. Thanks for replying.
Thank you I'm using this as a tutorial for the "E-Z-To Make DIY Screen Kit" I bought from the home depot. My husband is gonna put it in, but this seems too easy.. I might do it myself
I DID IT! 8/14/21. My First Window Screen Repair and I only custed four times, for me that's not bad.😊💗 Thanks for SHARING your video.
Fake
I’m curious…when installing the screen does the spline face out to the outside or in toward the house?
The tricky part is installing the screen without ripples, while not making it so tight that it bows in the frame. It’s the tough part.
This is helpful to me thank you….
You bet 👍

@@jaydee.4388 Aha! Seems like you found a good solution. Thanks for the response.

More like a replacement than a repair?

Il just use a pizza cutter😂🍕
A landlord who actually repairs things! Good stuff. I've gotta do my own
Good presentation You "ex-plined" it very well!ha
Helpful but definitely took longer than 10 minutes. What do you use to cut aluminum?
Shall you install the window screen from the inside of the house or outside? I saw some videos from the inside and others from the outside.
It does depend on the brand of window but the majority are from the inside.

Is that the screwdriver that comes with the Nest thermostat? I love that thing.
U gotta pre order for ur window size?
The gap for the rubber strips at flame is 0.5MM...so what is the diameter of rubber I should I use? 0.4MM, 0.45MM or 0.5MM?!?!
This is a good question..curious to know too.
2:40 is that screen repair patch?
Thank you!
How do take the whole screen and frame out of the window opening?
There are springs in the top/bottom of the frame, just push the frame upward, and gently pop the bottom of the frame loose and take it out. Reverse to install

Deadass do things step by step smh
Nice & detailed explanation. Can you please let me know the tool to cut an aluminum mesh instead of fiber like you used? Thanks!
What id that you put every corner? A long black one?
Thanks
Thank you much! Now i know how to do it.
Glad I could help!
Thank you
Where can I buy the tool (inserting the plastic)that you are using in this clip
Good job
Thanks for your help.
This didn't show repairing the large hole. It showed replacing the WHOLE screen.
Hey Heidi, at least from my point of view when you have a large hole like this it is just easier to rescreen the entire screen. Best of luck on your repair.
Home Depot has some cheap kits to repair that.. just replace the whole thing. It's not expensive.

It’s 5 dollars Heidi
Where do you buy the screen it self ?
i don't wanna replace the whole screen, just the rip/ tear.
To each their own but way easier just to replace the whole screen. Best of luck.

Do you pull the screen tight? How do you get the tension to be even all the way around?
Truly appreciate the info!
You bet!
Will home depot re-screen for you?
Hey Adrienne, I don’t think so but if I remember right ACE Hardware might re-screen.

This is not helpful because 1) you are using terms that we don't know, and 2) your camera is too far away!!!!!!
