One word: utility. Dodge offers one of the most versatile minivans on the market (with a lot of close seconds from the Japanese). VW needs to not only equal that, but surpass it in some unique and distinctive way. Not just for the interior, but accelerating, braking, and handling. From what I can see, its not even close.

I owned one of the new Beetles back in 1998. People were very excited over it back then. I have to say this new ID. Buzz is giving me similar vibes again. It's almost perfect except for a few things. Wish the rear seats folded flat so you could sleep back there while camping. VW needs to add lighting to the volume and climate controls. Also, hope that VW puts in a larger battery, say 100 kWh.

the 5 seater version will sell like hot cakes, the passenger row seats folded height wont be any issue as they or many companies will make a camping pod to match it, so you then have usable camping bed platform... with under neath slide out ply box housing your stuff (to include cooking equipment / solar, mains, UPS, leisure battery's).

I just sold my T6 kombi and loved the versatility as a day van but I used to store the single seat in the garage most of the time fto allow for easier access to the rear and to load surfboards and longer items inside easier. Not having removable seats in the Buzz seems a bit of an own goal, unless it's a weight-saving thing due to being electric?

I was told that the head of VW R&D was “let go” recently, mainly due to the horrendous infotainment decisions of the latest crop of VAG cars. Audi have nailed the infotainment but even the Q4 E tron has horrible capacitive buttons on the steering wheel still. It’s enough to not recommend the car entirely. VW were the master of perfect ergonomics. They know how to do it.

The concept car version of the ID Buzz of around 4 or 5 years ago had an ingenious rail system embedded in the floor… allowing you to move / remove seats at will. Really sad that this didn’t make it to the production vehicle. Maybe it’ll make the cut in the longer wheel-base editions that are expected to debut next year.

When I see what VW did with this car, I ask myself how they managed to loose all space in the front for the ID4 and ID5. How can they do that and just let the front of the ID4 full of cables??

    • @UhOhUmm
      @UhOhUmm 2 роки тому +8

You need to open your eyes wider then. It's the exact same design as the ID4 and ID5, it's just that the front glass is put extremely far forward, so all the cables that are in the hood of id4 are under the two kilometer long dash of ID.Buzz.

The rear bench is disappointing it should have 3 proper seats for the width. Ideally a 2/2/3 seat arrangement with rotating chairs like a caravelle would be better - it’s achievable in a caravelle short wheel base, why not in this instead of a long wheel base?

the inability to remove seats in the back seems like a big oversight - surely safety related, but it compromises the useability a lot. drove a rented golf this week with the touch controls - couldn't see anything on the motorway at night to change temp or volume. - who is designing this risky interface...really not the peoples car..

But the buzz has more options in the computer, extra subwofer, heating for back sidewindows, different centerconsol, so not easy, and still unknown price but if it was 390 000 NOK for the cargo and 520 000 for the buzz it would be hard. 0-60 and the non sliding rear seats are a serious concern for me. A non flat floor for a van? I really do not understand it. And the software user interface: how easy is this to fix...touch slider buttons have always been a bad idea on any device.

Great video again. Thanks! The Buzz is really cool but one thing I really don’t like is the small monitor behind the steering wheel. How can you offer such a tiny and so not modern feature? The UI and UX is awful.

Saw the interior. Love the two tone color and hope that the yellow two tone has the two tone color seats too.

I like the cargo version because I want to camp, but it will be interesting to see a camper version one day.

i think the dash in the panel van version would be a good option for the passenger van as well for salesmen who use the vehicle for work and family.

My dad had the T1 when it came to Western N.A. , then he bought a 1959, a window van which he got camperized by a camper shop - then he got a 72(which I totaled and he got a 1974, then a 1979. The van was good for off-road use to go fishing or hunting because it had the ground clearance...with the stock 15" tires. Hopefully you DID NOT LOWER IT because they are useless as highway vehicles. Underpowered. My dad drove manual transmission 4 speed in all of them. It also was his WORK TRUCK, his weekend camper, It could take 2 motorcycles INSIDE IT. I am not sold on the CHEAP BLING OF ELECTRONICS ON IT. I watched how it is put together on another video, (basically glued together.) This is better than spot welding? A couple of HEAD ON CRASHES SHOULD TELL YOU. [I WAS DOING 60mph AND THEY WERE DOING 80mph IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. I LIVED AND SO DID THEY. NO SEAT BELT.
But the spare tire bolted to the front helped a lot in that collision and was 100 yards off to the side of the road.

The vw cargo van would be perfect for the single or couple, its more versatile for camping, or whatever and I like the color, blue/white, only no specks were given, so I gather they’re the same as id, the question is what’s the approx charging times, and is this model available in the US…

IMO the ID family is very nice, I would like it even more if it had some distinctive quirk or feature like Tesla's toy box, videogame, possibility to watch media content and more!

Dunno had a couple vanagons, the vibe was always analog, chill, holiday, disconnect. This thing shouts look at me I want to be cool but I ain't. I'm always connected with all my devices. I don't have surf gear in the back, but I have my kids 🤣

I have a vanagon with surf gear in the back. Planning on getting this one for the kids when it comes out. The best of both worlds.

Was just sarcastic dude. But hey, I forgot, we live in the '20s now, you can't say anything anymore without someone feeling offended (can I say someone these days, probably should say something, you never know).

@@Ralfscho Nah bro I'm good😎🤙🏼. This van is for 90's kids that grew up watching that 70's show, and now have kids of their own. Time keeps passing and I'm glad VW planned for that. Better than a Honda Odyssey with a soccer sticker on the back. If you're 25 and single you might not appreciate what VW did here. If you're nearing 40 plus you'll think it's awesome.

Please Thomas confirm if there will be short version with 7 seats? Please, say yes:)

  • @toyotaprius79

A 6 seater is needed. All what the VW engineers need to do is facilitate the cargo version's front passenger bench seat into the passenger version. PSA does it with their electric vans.

Thanks for the great review. Can the seats be removed easily if you want to use it as a camper for the weekend? I think it's going to be a couple of years before I see a camper version of this in my region. :(

Underwhelming is an understatement. Interior design is still stuck in 2015, reusing old vw parts. Screens and design looks already outdated. No modularity of space. It's like a T1. But more expensive.
