I have owned the V6 GT model for 2 months so here is my take on it.
The exterior styling was one of the only midsize SUV that my wife and I could both agree on liking because its subtle and elegant without looking like its trying too hard to get your attention by being too flashy or aggressive like some other models, (Mazda/Kia/Honda). Cant really complain about the exterior look because thats subjective. Some people find "plain and simple" boring and others find it clean and elegant. Can't really complain about the 3rd row either because it really should be considered just an added bonus for extra kids (your kid's friends etc,) instead of a proper viable everyday solution for big families, you just lose too much cargo space when the 3rd row is being used. Mitsu should should not market it as a "true" 7 seater. Also as far as I know most other midsize SUV don't even offer this option, you need to go to the bigger SUVs to find it, so its an asset, not something to complain about. The flexibility of the seating wasn't mentioned here really because the 3rd row is divided into 2 and you can effectively have 1 up and 1 down, meaning you can still keep someone cargo space if u seat 6 people. (my small dog owns one of the third row seats and I still have loads of room for our stroller and groceries on the side of it). You Can't really call the V6 GT model a fast car by most standards, but you can't say its sluggish either. but it does have a 0-60mph time (8.7) similar to a lot of european "hot hatches," which is not bad considering the size! its faster than the old Citroen Saxo VTR I used to have back in the UK and that was considered a "pocket rocket" back in the day. The 6 speed gear box is manual tiptronic (mentioned in the video?) so you can have some fun with it if your really wanted to. Easy to overtake on highways. GT model has Xenon head lamps (mentioned in video?) The Sat Nav system has SD card and USB inputs for media and you can also connect your phone via blue tooth to control music, calls and sync your contacts wirelessly through a fully voice controlled system. Tried and tested the ACC and will change how you drive during long highway trips. No need to constantly increase or decrease your speed to adjust for a car entering or leaving your lane, it will always maintain your preset distance to the car in front. feels weird literally letting the car do all the driving apart from the steering! (although it does keep an eye on that too with the LDW!) Tried and tested the S-AWC up here in snowy Canada and I have to say the Snow mode is outstanding even in the worst conditions. Felt safe and solid with no twitching or slipping on Snow and Ice. Makes me actually miss driving in those conditions.
Also not really mentioned is the Rockford Fosgate 710 watt 9 speaker package available. Obviously not the same as a true after market system but a massive increase in sound quality and bass than what you are used to with a standard system. Not bad for daddies like me. Very flexible equalizer also.
Another big plus for me was not feeling like just another mid size SUV on the road. Mitsu has an extremely small market share with this vehicle (less than 1 percent in NA?) which means you won't be running into someone else with the same car as you on a constant basis. I literally see hundreds of Honda CRVs, Santa Fes, Mazda CX5 and Nissan Rogues daily. Obviously this is a testament to their popularity and success and Mitsu would love to have more of their vehicles on the road, but it makes me feel a little more unique, and I like that. Would like to see this little car company make a comeback, hopefully my support (however small it is) will help contribute toward some kind of revival for NAs smallest car manufacturer.

I have an identical version. Same color. After six trouble free years I can say it is a good car. I get 27-30 mpg. the rear most seat is a child only seat but my ten year old son still chooses to set back there. The middle seat does fold flat unlike what the reviewer said. It’s not a one lever deal. You have to flip the middle seat cushion up and forward, flip a lever that is located under the seat cushion, remove headrest, then the seat back folds flat. For some reason Mitsubishi chose to have a different headrest design for the USA versus the European version. They have headrests that don’t need to be removed to fold the middle and rear seat down. Driving is smooth and quiet most of the time. I find that accelerating is adequate. If you need more put the shift lever in Ds which provides good acceleration but makes the engine loud. Now the negative things about the car. The infotainment system is slow to start. When you start the car it takes 15 seconds for it to load. By then you have already backed out of your driveway and then reverse camera grid is just popping up as you shift into drive. The rear window wiper is switched on and off via the lever on the steering column But, some stupid committee thought it was a good idea to put the intermittent time adjustment in a sub menu in the touch screen infotainment system. That means that you have to be stopped and scroll down a menu to find the settings. For example it’s raining lightly and you have it set for 16 second sweeps, then it starts pouring down rain and you want to have the wiper on all the time, you have to stop the car before you can change it. All the menu is grayed out when the car is moving. The seats, while very durable and have held up well are totally lacking of lumbar support. I have to have a cushion for the small of my back. The heated seat is nice and has two temperature settings. My car, like the one reviewed does not have a roof rack or bars. Going through a car wash with the heavy cloth strips knocked the rubber strips out of the roof . Mitsubishi charges $50+ for replacing each piece. I used windshield adhesive to put them back in. Over all I like the car and would recommend it to everyone.

Just got a 2015 Outlander SE. Awesome car for the price. 4-cylinder engine is plenty powerful and I am getting 26mpg combined. Btw the second row does fold completely flat, you have to flip up the bottom cushion first and then the seat folds totally flat. I got a great deal and it is very underrated in my opinion.

I recently purchased an outlander GT and I'm very happy with it. for the money I pay around $29000 I got adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning forward collision mitigation navigation ( although no the best system I had) and a in general good looking car. Granted the style is not edgy but the driving is very comfortable and smooth. As per the lack of power is very relative, the car weight 3500 lb compared to to other vehicles like the Jeep grand Cherokee or Nissan rouge which are much heavier so the pounds per horsepower ration is similar to many vehicles in its class. As for speed, I have a 5.0 mustang that takes care of my needs. it is really stupid to think that a 7 passenger car will be faster, this class is about safety and comfort and for the money there is no really another car that compete with it.

I have a 2011 Outlander XLS (3.0L, S-AWC) and still love it. I just passed 135,000km with nothing other than regular maintenance and a brake job so far. If you live in a climate with snowy winters, I highly recommend the Outlander. There were a few times I would have loved to have an actual locking diff, but for normal driving in the snow, you can't beat the stability of the S-AWC system. I drive 100km each way to work every day, whether it's clear or the worst kind of snow storm, and this vehicle has not left me stuck, stranded, or in the ditch once.

Great video Dave with lots of information. The only item missing for me was a 0-60 test or at least a mention of general 0-60 times.
As for the vehicle all of the engine choices seem to be down on power and fuel economy compared to its competition. Although, the safety features are pretty amazing on this vehicle, so good job Mitsubishi.

We currently own a 2014 Outlander SE S-AWC 2.4 with CVT. I feel the power is more than adequate. We are more than happy with our purchase.
The CVT does have one nice feature. When the gear shift is moved to Ds mode, revs are kept higher, which gives the four-cylinder engine a little more punch when accelerating and also serves to slow the vehicle with engine braking, such as when you are downshifting with a manual transmission

@Woodcote, generally speaking, I don't bring up 0-60 times UNLESS it's a high performance sport car. Also, the equipment/device needed to do it myself is kind of spendy. I have considered it. If I do perform 0-60 test (which I may in the future) it'll only be ONE element of my videos. I appreciate the comment - Dave

    Not a bad review.
You know what would be a good idea. Finding some measurable snow (1' ft+) and comparing how the AWDs of the small suvs fare in them. I have a faith that my 2014 Outlander will ace that test.
Also, you guys gave the Outlander Sport a 7/10. What's your grade for the Outlander?

  • @foxtrot685

I agree! But I'm speaking specifically to this vehicle, and other compact CUV's with a 3rd row seat, like the RAV4 when it had the 3rd row. It was never designed with 7 grown adults in all 3 rows in mind. It's designed for children/temporary use and children for some reason LOVE siting in the 3rd row of a CUV. Ive seen them fight each other over the 3rd row, its bananas!

  • @hnnotyy
    @hnnotyy 10 років тому

Mitsubishi also requires you to use premium fuel for the 3.0 V6 engine. Wow 22MPG Mitsubishi has said they have gotten 26 mpg combined with the AWD system and V6 23 mpg with the AWD. Mitsubishi better set up their game if they want to remain here in the US their sales numbers are way way down. Ya if those ECO buttons aren't helping with fuel economy then its time to rethink their strategy and go back to the drawing board. Like the new look need to work on MPG and V6 fuel requirement no 93 octane

That's not how you fold down the 2nd row seats. They fold completely flat. Do your research lol.

    And at what price???!!!!
For $35k I'd rather buy 2-3 y/o luxury full-size suv like MDX or RX350. It will definitely outlast the Outlander (and my neighbors won't look at me with pity) :-)

Gutless 4 cylinder, cheap JC Whitney taillights, laughable 3rd row legroom, the same in the 2nd row if someone is in the 3rd row, the paint color is the same as the skin color of 'Tanning Mom', the nasty plastic wood trim, a non-integrated infotainment system, V6 requires premium, ALG rating is a 3 star, the Mickey Mouse method of getting the 2nd row to fold flat, I could go on and on ...

Well it would be more expensive to produce from a cost standpoint, and DOHC engines usually need more frequent or sooner maintenance, for example dohc typically timing belt needs to be changed at 60-70

What is Mit. doing?!?!?!? This suv looks like it belongs in the years 2003-2006. It is ugly, It is plain, it is no stylish, it lacks all the nice lines and flow that Japanese cars are suppose to have. Id much prefer the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford, Honda Pilot. It is soo uglyyyyyyyy!!! Even Mazda have better looking cars now.
