    Two suggestions I can make that will help you out. If you notice the pipe that holds your log clamps has a little slack from side to side, and this slack can deter you from getting a good bite on your log clamp allowing it to come loose. I put a steel shim between the end of the pipe and the frame to take up that slack and dogging problems are greatly reduced. The other thing I did on the log loading system is I mounted a 3500 lb Harbor Freight electric winch on the post in place of the winch. I also mounted a 50 cal ammo box behind it to house and store all the electrical for the winch. The ammo box is waterproof and can be out in the weather. I drilled holes in the side for the plug in for the remote cable, and store all inside the box when not in use. The electric winch is so much easier on your back than the manual one and easy to use the hook to turn large logs with as well. I have tried to post picture of my set up to the Norwood forum but alas as an old guy I am not smart enough to figure it out, maybe one of my grandkids can help me. Hope that helps you a little. I love my LM29!!

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  5 років тому

      I had never thought about the electric winch, that sounds like a great addition. I had noticed the slack on the dogging system and pay attention to it when tightening up a log. Thank you for the winch idea and thank you for watching. :)

    Great Job explaining this Norwood Sawmill. I haven't heard much negative about the LM-29 or any of the Norwood brands. I have a quote from Norwood for the LM-29, I think I have my mind made up, was looking at other brand names, but from what I see and hear from people who has the Norwood, everyone is very happy with the performance of the Norwood mill. I'm going with the Norwood LM-29 and will order it this coming week.

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  5 років тому +1

      I do not have the adjustable legs. There used to be a little mix up on the Norwood website, don't know if they have fixed it yet or not but in the LM29 demo video it had the adjustable legs as standard equipment but on the LM29 page had the legs listed as optional accessories you could buy. I mad my own stand out of pressure treated 4X4's. Works great for me. :)

    I have that mill and the same issues with the holding the logs in place. I wish they could solve this issue for us. If you firm a log into position it should stay put. So the bar the clamp slides on, seemed to be hard material. I replaced mine with a piece of pipe. Still not satisfied. I also have the smaller dog to hold the squared lumber in place. It too has problems. They are helpful but the dogging is a problem. Here is the solution to the plastic. Pop rivet a quarter inch of plywood to the inside the plastic guards. Your plastic will be safe. And the aluminum rivets cause no damage.

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  3 роки тому

      Nice fix for the guards, hadn't thought of adding a layer of plywood to the inside to protect them. Thanks :)

    Great video you from Canada? Could you do a in-dept up close video on your scale I bought a norwood mill after I built my own mill. Got a good deal on it plan to make it portable and perhaps sell it down the road. My mill is a lumber mate 2000 I wasn't able to get a manual with mine would you be able to also do a video on blade tension the lumber mate has a aluminum guard for the blade.

      @KoalityofLife  5 років тому

      I am not from Canada, I can try to get a more in-depth video on the cutting scale but it might be a while as I am building our house right now and want to get it sealed in before the rains come. As far as the blade tension on my mill, I just crank it down tight as it goes and make sure it tracks correctly. lol :)

    A 5 gal. Gerry can (with a filter in the spout) filled with tap water would (wood?) solve your problem of getting debris in the water tank. Also, in the summer, try adding a little dish soap to the water, it acts as a lubricant for the blade, it can also reduce rusting. I used to live in lumber country (MI, upper peninsula) and all small mills did this.
    You can dispose of most of your scrape by selling it to people for fire wood. My father used to by it buy the dump truck full and we would cut it to length. No splitting needed. You can also turn it to charcoal for use in BBQ grills and/or bio-char which is becoming popular with home gardeners.
    A set of adjustable bunks will allow you to do precision cutting for straight grain and quarter-sawn boards. Both produce beautiful boards but the process is too involved to discuss here.

    My deign was really simple for cam lock. I welded two 1 1/4” black iron pipe nipples about 2” long together to make a cross, slid that on a 1” pipe and welded a plate on each end to bolt on to the tracks. I then welded a 1” x 18” black pipe to a 1/2”x 12 black pipe to make a L shape. And for the cam I cut a egg shape plate out of 1/4 plate and welded it where the two pipes meet. The pointed end faces the 1/2 pipe side of the L pipe. This is the handle. The 1” pipe slides into the 1 1/4” cross nipple that is on the cross pipe. You slide the pipe to the log tight and turn 90 degrees and that wedges the log against log stops. The length of the 1” pipe can be adjusted to you set up. Hope this makes sense

    O also for the bolt that is used to clamp down. sharpen the bolt head a lil kinda ad a point maybe so it digs into metal a lil ? also can prob add nylon strips to inside so blade cant rip through the plastic. and wont hurt blade.

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  6 років тому

      That might be a little hard to do. When the blade breaks it kinda comes off in a different place each time so you would have to line the entire thing. I don't think the outer covers are that expensive, but I will definitely be looking into the price soon so I know what I'm in for. Thank you for watching. :)

    I'm thinking of purchasing a Norwood saw, not the 29 but the next one down. Honestly, how hard was it to get off the delivery truck (I don't have a tractor or anything to lift it off- have to do it by hand) and how hard was it to put together?? I have read some reviews with people saying it was horrible trying to get it together and they had bad experiences with customer service. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on the delivery company and if they will let you take a pallet apart and off load it part at a time or if you will need a forklift. As far as putting it together, it wasn't that hard just a bit time consuming. Customer service for me was great but that was before Covid. I had friends that bought during Covid and had a horrible time with customer service, mainly because Norwood was really backed up with orders and people calling in with questions. I have had a great experience with Norwood. :)

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  4 роки тому +1

      The V2 is a newer model and I don't know how much different it is from the LM29 but I remember the LM29 being easy to put together. The only thing I would change in the assembly instructions is that they tell you to tighten track as you put it together, I would loosely put the track together and then level and tighten all the bolts at the end. To answer your question about videos, no I couldn't find any step by step videos out there. :)

      Wolfgang, I have the trailer system on my LM29 and it is very sturdy and performs perfectly for towing and moving around. It even makes setup and leveling easy. My biggest complaint is the log rests, they are not heavy enough. I made a set out of 2x2x1/4 square tubing, ground the mount on the mill to fit the square tubing and they work perfectly. Also the end bunk was to far back, so I flipped the mounting bracket end for end and remounted the bunk and now the blade on the sawhead go past it about six inches. Hope this helps.

    Did Norwood say to put a little soap in the water to help it keep the blade clean? A buildup of sap might slow it down. In my little experience some soap was used. I would like to see a real showdown between some of the major brands and put it up against one of the super cheap ones vs one that was home built from scratch.
