Mike is still my favorite keyboardist. While he’s totally an accomplished classical and jazz musician, he really shines with these beautiful melodies, whether they be lead or support, they’re always just warm, bright, and lively. His sounds speak to me more than words. Thank you so much for being yourself and giving yourself to all of us.
Level 42, for me easily the most important band of the 1980's! Mike is a legend and a fabulous player. together with Mark they are the 2 key parts to the 42 sound!
You, sir, are a legend, Mr Lindup. Level 42 is easily one of the three most important bands that helped me carve out my skills as a musician. Thanks, man. OH...and pleeeeease convince the guys to come to Toronto someday! 🇨🇦🙂
@@MikeLindup42 You are very much loved in America!! My mom and I have enjoyed your music since World Machine (although I was still a twinkle in her eye then :-P) and sure hope you can visit Chicago (closest big city to us!) someday, we would love to have you!
She may be old but her "soul" has been maintained - she's tuned to perfection and still singing like a bird. Everyone needs more Rhodes in their lives, and everything just somehow sounds better with a little bit thrown in. RIP Tony Smith, George Duke, and Cecil Ramirez ❤
Thank you Mike for helping create some of the great soundtracks of my life...sooo happy when you rejoined Level 42!!.just wasn't the same without you!!
I keep coming back to Mike's videos, as they're really inspiring to me. Such a kind-hearted cat, putting down such lovely ideas. I feel like these songs are part of my DNA now. Best wishes to him.
Mike, that was an excellent explanation of the different keyboards you use - its not often you see a band member demonstrate the instruments used to play the various parts of a track and I found it very helpful. An excellent keyboard player - keep up the good work - you're a star!
Mr. Lindup first got my attention on Dominic Miller's album November which for me, was a landmark album. I think I now understand how some guitarists feel when they first heard Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow. Simply in awe of how effortless yet complex the whole thing is. Truly more than the sum of it's parts and 'Still' will always remind me of my brother in law since his passing. Thank you...
Mr. Lineup, Thank You for sharing your busy side as a musician with your fan base as some of us are also musicians. The band's name is Level 42. But your all's level is much, much higher than that. Stay Well!
SOOO awesome seeing on of my all time fav legends share this intimate footage. You truly are everything I tell everyone you are. Something rare - a truly good person with massive talent.
I could listen to Michael play all day ! He is an awesome musician and writes and sings beautiful transformative music. A true musicians MUSICIAN ! I LOVE YOU MIKE !!!! 🩷🩷🩷
I never knew Mike covered the bass lines as well, respect to such a talented and nice guy, I had the pleasure of meeting you at Liverpool in 2010, hope to meet again.
Whilst I have no ability to play a musical instrument ...whatsoever....just to watch someone like Mike who is clearly at the top of his game is enthralling.
Hi Mike could we have more of this please this is absolutely fantastic! its brilliant hearing all of the layers within the music, been a fan of L42 since the early 80s keep on touring!!!
I love these videos that take a "backstage" look at the rigs used in gigs. As a fellow keyboard player and falsetto vocalist, Mike Lindup was someone I looked up to, and one of the eighties greats. The Chinese Way and Love Games were such great tracks from the perspective of what the keyboards are doing.
Mike Lindup is my FAVORITE player. His lines are so signature and his tone is my favorite. The bridge on Can't Blame Louis is so amazing !!! I will always treasure my photo taken with him in San Francisco in 2010 at The Regency Ball Room before the show. I had seen RUSH three weeks earlier, or after, I forgot. BEST MONTH, EVER !!!!!!
Dear Mr. Lindup, your sound and playing style on the Fender Rhodes and your synths was one of the most important reasons i fell in love with playing keyboards and especially the Rhodes piano at the age of 14 or 15, more than 30 years ago. Since then the i called about six of them my own... You still have the magic - thank you for your inspiration and for this video.
i love the sound of your Rhodes Mike and the parametric eq is a great addition to have fitted. I bought my mk 1 73 back in 85 and have recently just had it recovered and serviced. These instruments all seem to have their own character and play differently so good ones can be hard to find, all the best and thanks for sharing.
Followed 42 from the beginning! I havent got a Prophet yet nice sound. It is about time all the guys got a Knighthood!! Chatted to you briefly after a gig Mike great stuff!
Mike, you are the MAN! I love this behind the scenes stuff with you playing some of my fave L42 songs! I would hope to be 1/10th as good as you someday. :)
I heard Wally B. give a talk today and it was really interesting to hear him discuss his use of the Prophet 5. Great to get a brief "tour" of some of the parts Mike plays in L42 here. :)
Marks playing is of a time where really great british music started boiling up again and his style is at the forefront his skill levels are off the chart.....mark you are awesome.
Wow,Thank you mike for this look behind scenes, just love this what you do,lovely gentle man.i was at l42 first gig at regent Ipswich, was a fantastic night, star child days, phill was and still is a massive influence on my drumming, glad to see you still have yr lovely f Rhodes,p 5,take care ,,,big respect to you,,,is there any way you could get phill and boon back for a uk tour say,,,respect to you all chaz,,,
Brian Shensky I’ve owned 2 mk1s - a suitcase and a stage - they were lovely, but for various reasons I had to sell. I use the iLectric VST now on an iPad, with an 88 key weighted mother kbd, which is pretty good, with some nice EP sounds - but it’s not the same as a mk1 Rhodes!
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful! I Sooooooo Love, Respect & Admire Mike Lindup! He's one of my All-time Favorite Keyboardists & Singers!!! x♡x♡x♡x♡x♡x♡x♡x♡x

World Machine and Lying Again and Two Solitudes Chinese Way and Children Say and Lessons in Love. Would love to hear all these songs again live on Level 42s next tour. Hope Level 42 will release a live Blu Ray of the next tour. Kind regards 😁👌
lol i was sitting there waiting and saying please play the sun goes Down please please and then you did. And then you added the bassline, i've seen professional bassplayers play that bassline less groovy than what you just did and they didn't play the chords at the same time. Awesome, fantastic, worldclass. and do some more vids we love them :)

That EQ is an active preamp made by Dyno My Piano. It also has the Tri Stereo Tremolo installed on the right side of the namerail, which is a stereo panner. I also believe it came with a percussion pedal mod where you could alter the harp position with the use of knee lever installed underneath the piano but Mike Lindup might share some more info on that... Cool that he brought it back!!
