Incredible movie that is still as relevant today as it was back in 1972 and still for me the best film exploring how an "honest" man slowly sells his soul for power and success.
A half-century later it's saddening to consider how badly things have turned out.
From 1965 to 1976 Redford made superb film after superb film. The complete movie actor.
Sure did, and was pretty savvy in the content & rolls he hitched up.
Haven't seen this underated movie for at least thirty years, but i wouldn't have described it as a comedy. I'd say its exactly like US Politics is today.
It's dark comedy. Love the ending!
Social media makes it exponentially worst and also funnier. How masses go like sheep. Brain washed by faked news and propaganda
If Kevin Spacey were in it it could classify as a comedy.
So it’s a comedy then. Because Biden is hilarious. Barack Obama and his husband was hilarious. Trump was deliberately laughing and being a troll. George Bush jr’s intelligence level was a joke. They are all funny
@@martinsolomon5500and they make their money by trafficking children . Politicians live in a very dark world .
Love the small bit with Natalie Wood. She looks terrific.
Robert Redford, beautiful, handsome actor. Good film
Mostly with politicians it's just uttering words during campaigns. The one that puts his message across the most dynamically and smoothly wins the race. They seldom deliver what they promise to the people after the elections."What do we do now".Well that's exactly the question.A really fine movie and well acted.❤
I have been a big fan of Robert Redford ever since I saw his movie " This Property Is Condemned "long back. However,, I did not know that he had sideburns better than Elvis! It suits him.
Robert Redford is always fantastic. The sunshine boy.
Yeah but with brains not like some Hollywood acts I could mention 😂🧏♀️
Robert Redford at-his-best
For me, this movie showed the awesome range of Peter Boyle.
for those who missed it, Natalie Wood and Robert Redford were in one of almost their first movies together, Inside Daisy Clover.
He always chooses the best films .
Another great movie starring Robert Redford. He really dosnt have to do much.He is good looking and cool and the acting comes so naturally to him.Great supporting cast as well. Thanks for screening.❤
That was a time when the practice of electioneering interference and denial included tactics like following the other guys' volunteers and swapping out their door tag promos. It nicely addresses the former reality regarding the level of trust that could be assigned to a politician's words. I bet we never thought we'd miss that level of trust.
"He's not going to get his ass kicked. He's cute." ❤️ Love that line.
Robert Redford NEVER disappoints‼️💯💖💖
💯❗️
Jättebra att få se denna film med min älskling robert redford I den ❤❤❤❤❤ tack så hemskt mycke ❤❤kram pia
When Politicians who ran for office were younger than 87 years old....
I was hoping for a speech that said:
My fellow Ameicans
I stand here before you tonight to try and say whatever it is that you want to hear so you will vote for me so that I can protect the interests of those who gave me the money to run for office.
Thank You and God Bless
Superb film. Love the comic element. Great script writing.
" What do we do now ? "
Always delight to watch young Robert Redford .First I saw him in cinema was in "3 days of Condor" . I think this movie was few years before Condor .
Ah! 1972, when our style of speech, was closely aligned. 👍
Unlike today, when I need subtitles to understand it
👉 🇺🇸
Best wishes nonetheless. 😉
Salutations from Kensington and Chelsea; in London.
🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸
some Americans need subtitles now for our own stuff, or else we watch Marvel movies where the dialogue can be safely ignored.

@@vickynomikou4005 😉 👍
That was a time when people still listened. Now everyone is just screaming and demanding, ignorant of the facts...not personal facts, but collective, agreed-upon, empirical facts. Today, opinion - loud, ill-formed, stupid, polarizing - is king. We ll survive, because we inherited a great rule book...the constitution, unless we burn it on a pile of other rule books.
Another timeless classic..
Redford at his finest..
The Chase is another great Redford flix 🎬📽️🎞️🎟️🎭
Thanks. I'll check out "The Chase" based on your recommendation. 😊
My favorite Redford film, "Little Fauss and Big Halsey." Maybe the most unique role he ever played.
Tim, I checked out The Chase. Redford had a pivotal role, but there was E. G. Marshall, Robert Duvall, MARLON BRANDO, Angie Dickinson, Jane Fonda, and a slew of others! Good recommendation. Thanks 🥰
the best movie about election phoniness ever made
Primary Colors based on Bill Clinton's presidential campaign is as good if not better.
In the US, nothing ever changes. Never-Never land.
Great. Thanks DDF: Film Magazine
thanks for the upload!
I didn't know about this movie but I am loving it! I admit I didn't know anything about the director, Michael Ritchie, but he's great! And the DP, Victor J. Kemper just passed away in November 2023 at the age of 96.
Hamm's beer product placement-classic!
What a system we have. Many things have changed since early 70's, but the political "show" is still very much alive. This movie was about reality vs show and how so much of our politics is just...theater.
All of it is a show!
Wow he is one gorgeous man! He is a great actor too, though!
Who? Crockery Jarmond?
HAHAHA ! AND YES , HE IS GORGEOUS !
Terrific--TY!!!
Thank you 🎉
Great movie, still pertinent to today's politics.
Excelente film🎉
Un bellissimo expansivo Robert Redford ...felicityyyyyyyy..wonderfool film❤
thank you so much!!!!!
Oohlala
The days before CGI😂 thank you!
Always, absence of the dates of the movies is your important shortage
Jättebra film se den ❤
great film.
Remember, In politics, there are 2 paths to success, Psycho and Socio.
Good Movie 🐊Cheers
Nice little Mike Wallace cameo...
"Human beings are by nature political animals, because nature, which does nothing in vain, has equipped them with speech, which enables them to communicate moral concepts such as justice, which are formative of the household and city-state...." - Aristotle
To cite a quote more than 2000 years old as any direct explanation of what is happening today is ridiculous because people in Aristotle's time had a completely different image of reality than we do. Consider that Aristotle believed that the Sun and the stars revolved around the Earth and that the Earth was Flat.
The point is simply that some of them such as him were aware of this 'condition'; and that it is not a new phenomenon....
This along with Downhill Racer are great Films both starring Redford and Directed by Michael Ritchie. I think Ritchie really could have become one of the Elite American Directors but unfortunately he ending up doing a lot of very middle of road films in the 1980's that didn't have the intelligence or social commentary of his earlier films.
The stars of this movie were the fabulous production team, the editors and the director....just like being there and a real feel of a campaign. RR was, as the script says, 'cute'...but lacked the fire of a candidate who WANTED it....but...you gotta have a male lead who looks great...right? Along the way, watch out for the MacGuffin....
Redford wraps it up.
Every advertisement promises me thousands and thousands of dollars for absolutely nothing 😂😂😂😂
Let's see, if memory serves we've got Kenneth Tobey, Karen Carlson,Allen Garfield/Gorwitz,Quinn Reddeker,Peter Boyle,Don Porter, Melvin Douglas, cameos by Howard K Smith and Natalie Wood. If I've left anyone out give me a f#cking break as I haven't seen this movie in over 45 years. Jeremy Larner won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The following year Redford starred in a movie that won the same Oscar for David S Ward. Redford made 2 films with Natalie Wood in the mid 60s. "Inside Daisy Clover" and "This Property is Condemned". Redford was the 2nd male lead in the former and the male lead in the latter, which was also his first collaboration with Sydney Pollack. Trivia question; which actor only made 5 movies in his career and all 5 were nominated for Best Picture and 3 of them won? That's one helluva good movie trivia question.
非常喜欢这个电影! I like the Kay’s better way!
This movie and THE STATE OF THE UNION should be shonw every election year.
I really experienced it!
Always thought RR was somewhere related to Robert Culp. They move alike, have similar bone structures, facial expressions and so on. Both were/are awfully handsome, fine and believable actors.
Wait till you find out that Brad Pit is Redfords Cabal love child!
@@steviem8466 😂 Wouldn't surprise me one bit!
Never believe what comes out of a politicians mouth.
The only time they lie is when their lips move.
50 years before today we were talking bout the environmental crisis. the politicians did nothing.
But that is not true ...as a lot of '' smart people '' say ...:)). voters , in different countries . Just a gimmick. So is it ...or isn't it ...hm;))))..Also people did not do anything . It would matter , you know ....just trying to change some habits and bla bla . would have had a huge difference . But people are equally stupid everywhere and wait a miracle solution from '' someone up there'' or ''who's' in charge '' or etc ...projecting frustration and own failure on someone else . It's everybody's fault for the general state of things . Upper echalons , average people , etc . The whole society .
@@cooltrades74691. Politicians are mostly crooks. 2. Politicians get the money from the rich to lie to and to steal from most Americans.
too right!!
Pay attention child. The world is in far better shape today than then. You have been lied to. The 'crisis' is that people are realising there is no crisis, and so can't be manipulated. Except you.
RFK Jr did plenty which is one of the reasons I’m supporting him for President
I wonder if this movie was made because of what was taking place in American politics back in 1972?
Amazing parallels in politics fifty plus years ago compared to 2022/2023.
California is probably the worst state in the union. Did you see the fire scene?
They are still burning...good ole politics and lazy wind bags!
Absolutely love Robert Redford!
I can tell you don't live in Ca
It's interesting how this film is so much like the Doc. of Bill Clinton becoming President.
The best moment is at 1:13:05. It was said here fifty years ago, and needs to be said again. Even if it is too late.
This is the most important film to watch in America Now!
No one makes campaigns in open space malls anymore with sound mixing problems
Making of a politician!!
This is the movie Donald Trump based his hairpiece on
Exactly what I was thinking 😁😂🤣
Sorry but this is a pic about democrats.😊
@@amafirenze-vi1uh It doesn't matter to Donald. He's not strictly a Republican , more of a crypto fascist. He just loves Robert's look and how that won the public over.
A good movie. When I first watched it years ago I would have voted for McKay, now Jarmon. My politics have changed.
Me too !
Hard to watch Peter Boyle without thinking of Young Frankenstien
...and John G. Avildsen's 'JOE'! 👀 (I happened to see that one prior to Mel Brooks'. So...).
These's a Great movie!!
Just like Politics today😮
The extreme of anything is bad. At the end of the day we need to leave the green better than the way we found it. We owe that to ourselves and we owe that to every man, woman, and child who follows us on the course. What kind of turds would we be if we left an outdated petro state for the children of this magnificent country to navigate from a second or even a third place position on the geo political stage?
nice, awesome full movie soo cool one the classics...if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!!!!!!!!!1 Haley!!!!1 drop out by Monday!!!!!!1
The story of Adam Schiff.
A partir de 1:28:06 : "...George Abitbol...la classe, top of the pop !!!! "
And so it goes. Older movie, but on target. Left if course.
what is old ? You're toastt.
👍👍👍
Unwatchable, too many Ads.
I would have voted for Crocker Jarmin
🤩🤩
5': Did Robert Redford eat and drink that kind of stuff at the time? He's got quite a lean figure for someone on that kind of diet!
he has a pofessional taine keeps him fit and when making movies
It's A MOVIE, lol. Characters in movies are rarely similar to the real people, i.e. Bill Cosby, "America's dad", was a rapist in real life. Understand it now?
😊
At the time this movie was made, sonography wasn’t developed enough to determine when the fetus has intact nerve endings that feel pain. The 15 week deadline is based upon sonography.
"representative democracy" is a contradictory term
Yes , profound but as yet an unfulfilled promise ! We as a Species are all in this together ; as a World Citizen I mean and not just in the transitory tribal and national interests that bring about alienation , conflict , wars , social unrest and Injustice and the squandering of our material , natural and human resources when we ought to be applying them to the benefit of all ! And we must come to this most simple and profound realization before we bring about our own potential annihilation !
A movie that reflects the times it was made in?
You must be young. HA!
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI 1972 Wasn't Nixon relected?
That is exactly the beauty of these movies
Loosely based on the 1970 US senate election between 1st-term R incumbent George Murphy (Jarmon) and D challenger J V Tunney ~
What happened from 1:14:53, where Hymie (I think that was the name McKay called the brown-haired guy with the mustache) saw the young blond campaign worker, looked disgusted, and left without a word?
Its because he thought McKay had become corrupted by politics and become a sell out, basically going from fighting against the "Man" to becoming the "Man".
Best movie ever!
no disagree now it is the best at representing the old democrat party playbook of race baiting , class warfare, divide and conquer the Demonic Socialist totalitarian party (DNC) still trying to use it today.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is an uncomfortable movie to watch. But that's kind of the point, isn't it?
A lot of the best literature (including, in a broad sense, films) makes us uncomfortable.
the part when he couldnt stop laughing on 'point of view' was stupid ..didnt make sense
Make perfect sense to me.
He was frazzled from the constant grind, the mic being stuck practically in his face seemed went from startling to annoying to absurd. And that brought the absurdity and pretentiousness of the whole thing into focus. Laughter was a natural release.
🤔💚🙏😇🙏💚🤔
39:32 Black Woman smacked A BABY!!!!!!
just started the movie. looking forward to that scene😅
Has this ever been considered a Peter Boyle film? 🤔
Not when Robert Redford is in it. Come to think of it, of all the great films Peter Boyle was in, only "Joe" was considered his.
@thejerseyj5479 good point 👍
What's right and left?
Ha ha ha!!!!!!
Should be called the U.S. Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. of Delaware story
Why RR hasn't applied for a role in politics anyway? Too old now
19:20 - his wife had more political ambition then he, and is pushig him to do it.
She was supporting him. And he was not supporting her.
Almost a documentary about what made Cali a craphole.
I lasted about half an hour before concluding the same. Very un-nuanced, let's say
Robert Redford's political opponent wasn't even that bad.
@@brettsinger9565 Yep, his closing TV debate speech was spot on, lol.
