Due to a persistent battle with pride, Mike Dunmore has spent his entire life safeguarding a secret he believed would only bring shame if exposed. This clandestine aspect of his life has strained his personal connections, particularly with his son Patrick. The sole confidants in this matter were his late wife and his close friend and colleague Thurgood. Both had agreed to help maintain the secrecy for as long as possible. However, as Mike's cherished grandson starts facing similar challenges, he realizes that continuing to conceal his secret is no longer feasible. This becomes even more apparent when he receives endorsements and volunteers to run as a candidate in the local election.

my mum, passed & didn't know to read or write. My dad read all the news to her, so she was up to date with was was going on around her. My mum was a very smart & kind human being & I was blessed to have had the best mum in the world.❤
My mom was exactly the same . God gives wisdom to those who love Him even if they didn’t have chance to go to school.
Sorry for your mother. Feeling so sad.
Great movie! My nephew was thought of as being slow when he was a little boy. He was bored in class and seemed disinterested. Later he was tested and told he was dyslexic. Once the dyslexia was under control, he was tested again and was found to be a mathematic genius!!
👍
This was such a good movie! Thanks for the upload.💜
The casting director did a good job casting Kirk Douglas and Bruce Boxleitner as father and son. I never realized how similar they looked until I saw this movie.
I have dyslexia. I was accused of being lazy and stupid. I was told I was pathetic. I always had a hard time in school, barely passing each grade. I even had two years of kindergarten. It wasn't until I was a senior in high school that I found out I had dyslexia. My mom was watching one of those daytime talk shows and the guest was talking about dyslexia and was naming off the signs. She said to herself "That sounds like Lisa!" She told me about it when I got home from school and what was suggested to be done. I started using rulers to keep my eyes on the line I was reading. Then I would drop it down to the next line. I also used my finger to run through each word so I didn't lose my place. Another thing was to put the colored see through report covers over my work. It would cut down on the glare and made the letters stop dancing around. These things helped me tremendously! I went from barely passing to making the honor roll for the first time in my life! I'm so glad that lady was on the show and I'm so glad my mom was watching! I hope these tips help others with dyslexia. You are not stupid or pathetic and you are not alone! Godspeed❤
Good for you and your clever mum .👍
I am very happy for you! Nobody should be denied the right to read! And if they don’t know how, they should absolutely never be told they are lazy or stupid; they should be taught how.
By the way, you wrote this “reply” very well 😊
Thank you for sharing your story.🩷
My Father could not read, but he kept trying, until I was 4. I sat next to him and I learned to read very quickly. I think he thought he was just stupid. Turns out dyslexia runs in his family. My son had dysgraphia, and could not write or spell. He could read anything and remember everything he read. He was extremely ADHD, but we found ways for him to learn. He graduated from high school and went on to get a Bachelor's degree in theater. He worked in professional theater with some very well known actors, directors.
Whoa!!! I’ve cried so much over the ending with this movie! Thanks for sharing, I have always like Kirk Douglas old movies, but this is really a great one thank you so much!
Wow !!!! This is me a child. Then adult who always thought she was stooped. I was not formallydiahgnosgd with dyslexia. And ADHD THIS MY LATE YEARS.
I nearly passed over this film, very glad i watched it though. Mase me understand my dad much better. I wish he still here so i could say "Sorry" to him
There were no learning disabilities classes in Canada until the 1960s. As I tried to explain was told by doctors my children were handicapped or retarded, but my children did not have dyslexia, Funding was granted and medical as with Autism.
Wonderful film! Beautiful story! And the unforgettable Kirk Douglas!🥰🥰🥰
Great thanks for your movie one good movie is Viking the music is out of thisw
Of this world
Such a wonderful film. Does it not show us that anyone who has a disability has as much value as anyone else. God does not make mistakes He challenges us on how we treat our fellowbeings around us. After all He loves each and everyone of us and not one of us is without faults in his eyes.
❤
indeed, also exactly why more people need to start using the hearts&brains He gave us and be kind to all kind, not just arbitrary ones of arbitrary species
Thank you for sharing this movie. I have that illness and yet I learned to read and spell . It was hard as a child.
I definitely understand! 👁️👁️ Children should be taught about Dyslexia. I knew I was different than other children, when it came to reading. The letters kept moving around, that made reading difficult. I kept my secret, growing up thinking I might be crazy. Because no one else, talked about the letters moving for them. I found out I had Dyslexia, in my early 20's, and I got my children diagnosed early!
Dyslexia is not an illness.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful testimony.
Feliz año nuevo 2024
Not an illness but more of a normal abnormal like ADHD.
My son too. He is as blessed and got a blessed teacher.
ANOTHER Good movie from DDF - Thanks for Uploading & Sharing!! What a Handsome "Dude" this Kirk Douglas was (R.I. P.) IS just the right fit for this movie. Good old fashioned values & such a fine movie!! Another Well Deserved👍from me toooo!!
This was a really good movie! Despite his disability, he was a smart man in the way of the world. The Goldilocks interpretation was funny. Im glad the truth came out in the end.❤
WOW very well written. I got teary eyed with ‘’ I miss her hairpin on the sink.
Loved this movie,thanks UA-cam.
Still,fewer commercials PLEEEEEASE!👌
We have to remember that all of us anyhow have some disabilities so we shouldn't need to get ashamed of it rather try every source to get out of it and take it easy👍
We all have disabilities, talents and hang ups, but mostly we all have misconceptions about our own lives, especially what happened when we were children and how other people experienced the same events.
Innocent of all book learning but very blessed with common sense 🙌 🙏
This is a great movie. It's educational. At least we should make our children read and write every day
beautiful and I’m just glad it’s not about paedophilia or being a child predator…
Right!
Wonderful movie, heartwarming with an important message. Thank you for sharing this movie with us ❤️
My parents didn't know how to help my brother , he couldn't read or write, he used to throw his mail away and say if they want me they can ring me ! He would never let me help him just angry all the time , he became a plaster . The practical side of life was easy
My dad can't read or write it's very hard no phone no books no computer no instructions.he gets by but modern life is hard for him
He is a warrior and he will always be fine❤
the ones we're fortunate , we should read more, however we don't.( sorry if if my English isn't good) 🤭. I'm 69 and i don't give up to learn English language well.
That's why i watch English movies ok?
That's one of the most unforgettable magnificent movies of our time. Thank you! I finally found it after decades!!!! ❤
And the black man, his loyal employee as well as his campaign manager is my true hero in this movie.
There's a movie with Dennis Weaver called " Bluffing it " a grown man who couldn't read or write either this movie reminded me of it. Excellent movie !!
Great upload. Never allow your disabilities to overshadow the greater gifts that God has seeded in you. Your imperfections are what makes you different, unique, and positively AMAZING.
No ‘gods’ and no imperfections.
This is really an excellent movie in which dyslexia was brought to the forefront of our minds. Statistically more children and adults like struggle with dyslexia and reading issues. It is a shame that teachers pass children on to the next grade when they could. Have the courage to hold him back and give them a chance in life and what really matters. I hope that this can become. Norm instead of a teacher, rarely helping a child with dyslexia and other handicap issues such as ism and Asperger disease, etc. I know we are improving but we have such a very long ways to go.
Thank you for showing this movie.
Teachers can only do so much. Dyslexia can be very difficult to diagnose and a teacher cannot just do it by themselves. It takes a team including parents and doctors.
Holding back a child is NOT the answer; it can actually exacerbate the problem.
Great movie, thoroughly enjoyed it. I imagine this would be one of the first movies tackling dyslexia.
Very warm and wise movie straight to the heart. One that shows true friendship and love.
Very impressing peace. Well delivered emotions with so many important topics. Great cast too, so pleased that I came across with this movie.
I enjoyed actually everything about this. I thinked the homosexuality more as a friendship, not erotically.
Beautiful screenplay, music and acting. Thumbs up for this one - if you're not a homophonic person - which you shouldn't be.
A very enjoyable movie with a great moral theme.
I learned something from this movie thanks
Dyslexia is more common than people realize, & people have it in different levels. Some more severe than others. Absolutely NOthing to hide or be ashamed of!! 💖🪔
A great movie to watch. Thank you for uploading it
a great show and the truth is always the right way
Even today, some of the parents aren't ready to accept that their children are dyslexic or slow learners. They are worried about 'what other people will think '. Meanwhile their children are wasting their years. I pray that the society, the teachers learn to accept these individuals who are otherwise gifted.
Thanks for the lovely movie.
My husband couldn't read i never found out until I married him i tried to teach him but he never had the patience to sit and learn he always promised to do something about when we had children but still he didn't we had 3 children and from them being little taught them to love books . they have all grown up and constantly read in their spare time i think school teachers should make sure children are not lagging behind with read i think it's the most important subject to learn .
You might like "The Pride of Jesse Hallam," with Johnny Cash.
Heart warmomg story . Thank you for posting .
Sure, the language is English, the cast is American ,Kirk Douglas portrays the part brilliantly and the story is believable. Someone stands corrected though.
What a beautiful story ❤

Wonderful movie, thanks from Germany

Great movie!
Great movie! ❤😊
WOW, great! Thank you!
I think it’s sad that movies from the 30s 40s and 50s are preserved much better than this one. This one is not clear it must’ve been on a VCR tape or something. So sad.😢

Kirk Douglas looks great in this movie
"The Pride of Jesse Helms" has a similar theme.
The correct title is “The Pride of Jesse Hellam” Jesse Hallam” Jesse Helms was a conservative Republican from North Carolina.
@@CatONeal-b9g😅 You're right. I should have looked it up first.
@@CatONeal-b9g i looked that one up so i can see about watching it as well online it is actually "The Pride of Jesse Hallam

It's a shame that Kirk Douglas' last words on the subject were that it's too late for him to learn to read.
I enjoyed this movie, although quite sad near the end

Dyslexic?
You might enjoy "The Pride of Jesse Hallam" with Johnny Cash.
How do you speak without knowing words. In order to speak, you need to read, and understand sentences.
People have been speaking without writing for hundreds of years, they got by just fine
Speaking is learned by infants.reading and writing is taught

Once in a decade does a movie so lame that it reminds one of Hall Mark offering. This poor excuse for a movie is one of them.
