i recommend adding a glow effect when the lightning bolts are touching any surface, it gives it a more realistic effect.

Awsome tutorial. Its always better to have the project at 32bpc it actually make a difference especially with the glows. Also for the advanced lighting suggest to add a solid composite after each advanced lightining effect but since you precomposed it add a solid to the bg, like that the glows will look better. Also to have better glows stack some of them and change the radius and thershold after each one lile that the lightining effects and glows will look better
I doubt you guys are still checking comments on this video but I just want to let you know that this tutorial is fantastic! I am just getting started with AE and it's such a fun thing to do.
Wow, you are so good with After Effects! I don't understand how you figgure these effects out so fast. I'm not that good in After effects, so I picked up some new tricks.
For the last shot from when Jordy is running, it's a very wide frame. Did you run all the way, or did you just animate it to start from point A to B?
With practice you'll get it I used to ask these type of questions when I first started

Increase original video contrast to better clash with the lighning. You can also add quick flares off screen to give a edge shine.
