I noticed at the beginning ppl were taking normal size steps... then they realize what's happening and the ones in front start taking the teeniest tiniest baby steps forward and bigger steps backwards trying to hide the gap they represent
This exercise didn't take away anything from Ms. Espinoza's success, and I wish it didn't make her feel that way.
It should have made it more impressive. That she did not have the privilege and got there

I completely understand where MS. Espinoza was actually coming from. I'm ethnic and I'm successful, but my journey to reach where I am right now was so hard. I know that if I were born with "the right look" and came from a better socioeconomic environment, then I would have been way more successful than where I am now. Not to mention the huge factor that ethnic people can and do achieve success, but will have to offset all the hurdles and obstacles along the way (as this video outlined), which also means that it would take them much longer to arrive at their destinations.
The whole point of the exercise is a guilt trip set up by the (now communist) democrats to keep dividing us as a people. Where's the ACTUAL SCIENCE behind the questions? The questions are meant to separate the room łike this.

I'll say. She made out like her CIRCUMSTANCES were something to be ashamed of. That's exactly why we're in so much trouble: we make out the color of somebody's skin or the condition of their clothes or hairdo is "the content of their character," and we turn children's bad luck into a personal embarrassment instead of a problem for adults to get together and solve.
@@celticandpenobscot8658 Agreed. No one chooses the circumstances of their birth and no one should be blamed if it means they need a little extra help because of it. You don't blame someone for being born with a disability or illness. If someone is born into poverty that's not their fault either. We need to offer solutions not condemnation and stigma. Finally, we shouldn't care about someone's skin or hair color. Those are superficial features.

Free people aren't free because of being members of any particular group (e.g., whites, blacks, tall, short, intelligent, cognitively-impaired, disabled, abled, etc.).

My mom took me to a play once. I was so happy. She found a local theater who had written and were performing a play based on the Redwall stories. The author was even there and signed books. I was so happy that she paid attention to what I was reading and recognized it when she read about the play in the paper.
I told my English teacher about it and then my elementary school decided to bring all of the honor students to see it, so I got to see it twice.
**They did ask a question about whether or not your parents took you to plays, so this is still on topic.
This video misses so many questions.
1) If you were ever homeless as a child take a step back for each time.
2) If you were ever subject to emotional, physical, or sexual abuse take a step back for each type.
3) If you ever lived in a location were there was less then 200 square feet per person take a step back and if it was less the 100 square feet per person take two steps back.
4) If your parents ever made less then $10,000 per child take a step back and if they ever made less then $1,000 per child take two steps back.
5) If your parents encouraged education take a step forward.
6) If your parents paid anything for your college take a step forward.
7) If your parents paid for any extracurricular activity take a step forward.
8) If your parents ever kept your money or charged you for room and board take a step back but if they returned it to you in college take a step forward.
The simple fact is that privilege is a sign of wealth not race. This white male even without my questions is negative eight on "their privilege walk". And here is the major point none of my questions involve race but theirs do.

I have to agree, there are still many questions missing. I listened and responded and I am very curious what the goal here was. As a now, middle aged white male, whom acknowledges that I have had both hardships and also blessings based on any of the criteria mentioned (age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, etc...) I am amused that when answering those thirty questions, I am at negative six from the starting line (0, -1, 0, -1, 1, -1, 1, 0, 0, -1, 1, -1, 1, 0, 0, -1, -1, 0, -1, 0, -1, 1, -1, 1, -1, 1, -1, -1, 0, 0 respectively of their questions listed in the video). Adding your questions into the mix, I would be negative eighteen (-7, -3, -1, ?, 0, 0, 0, -1). To look at where I am now though, I do not think for a second that life is hard or that it is extremely unfair. I am fully aware that my choices in life as an adult has paved where I am both successfully as well as debt (financial, relationships, work, etc...).
As a Sunday School teacher many years ago, I used to teach my class the principal that material things, yeah, they bring happiness, but it is momentary. Making sound choices about life, that means maybe playing roulette and getting lucky, but more often than not it means making sound choices that also come with sacrifices, and that, that is where you find long term happiness.
Privilege is best defined as unearned advantages. Both sets of questions are valid- your set of questions as well as the questions in the video are valid because they bring awareness to unearned advantages. Therefore, privilege is typically associated with W.E.I.R.D. people (Western Educated Industrialized Rich Democratic-thinking) which are usually North American-born white men and women.
Race is ONE of the factors.

Yet we fought for 800 yrs for our freedom, wrote our constitu, worked very hard though very poò, didn't victimise ourselves, sang our own songs, played our own music, prayed to God everyday. Now we are being replaced with people from all over the world through our corrupt politicians who tell us we are all sorts of bigots, racists, homophobrs etc we will soon be minority in our own land because of these bs ideologies, one world government and great replacement.
These markers have nothing to do with race. They’re markers of wealth and social status.
I mostly took steps back or stayed in the back as I was doing the exercise in my mind. And realized as an asian immigrant I have to work harder and obtain all kinds of degrees and experiences to qualify for a job.

@@cryptoforeveryone2689 yeah, well I’ve never had an advantage by filling out the quota questions. On the contrary, when I skipped those questions, as I got older and wiser, I actually got interviews. What does that tell you? But, hey, you keep beating that dead horse.
I agree with you Diana, I actually got up and started participating with them and ended up near the back of the room. There were only about 3 questions where I actually moved forward, but then the next set of questions moved me back again. There's a certain threshold that I've seen where degrees/experiences, etc. can only take you so far in your career, the rest is all about who you know and referrals. Most senior level professionals got there opportunities not because of their education, or being the most qualified person, but because of their connections or if they have "the right look" to run the company. The bigger issue is that people who have "the right look" are able to form certain type of connections which can thrust them further in life compared to others who don't have that same appearance.

I always hear about the diversity of whites and blacks . Im Hispanic and I feel like the diversity is not talked about when it comes to us. To me I see white and black more equal than Hispanics.
We should all be compassionate to those in need but this is a shaming experience for those who don't move forward. Someone should think of an exercise that would NOT be shaming!

How would you know if your getting paid less.
This showed promise, but, a more diversified sample should have been used. Specifically, a Latino and Latina, an Asian male, persons from the Middle East, another Black male and another Caucasian male. It would have been great if Native Americans, our forgotten people, were included. Still, this was a good effort!

From a large amount of the questions I would say its not privilege that gets you more to the front but more a case of the more your parents loved and cared for you the further forward you move?
A lot is dependent upon how much money your parents had to spend on improving your chance of success. Like taking out a loan for school. Or having enough to eat.

Actualy, there is diversity in Latin America. For example those that are descendent from the Spanish colonists, those who are native, and of different tribes, and those European who immigrated more recently.

But also the questions would be interesting, for example: do your family teach you how to act of the police stop you? Here we are all afraid about the police so every family should teach you how to avoid them, specially at nigh.

You are NOT defined by where you start in life. Regardless if you are at the front or the back it is IRRELEVANT.
What matters is the steps you take in LIFE. The ATTITUDE that you have.

Your comment mentioned above is a nice inspirational statement; however, in life you are actually defined by where you start in life. An ethnic person from a lower socio-economical background is less likely to have access to proper nutrition and quality education (this is the facts); it can take years to offset these setbacks. If you're way far in the back, then you have to work 3x's harder to try and make it to the front. The woman in the far back was not only black, but she was much older and was probably born in the 1940/50's. Black people had limited opportunities in the 1950s, 60's, 70's and 80's (and in a lot of ways they still do now). You can be a black male who never got into trouble a single day in your life, you can work hard, obtain a great successful career and still be followed when you go into stores or certain communities, or accidently killed by the police "if they think you look like a suspect".

I am English born and bread, I am one of 6 children brought up in the 1960,s and we were not very well off. My parents did their best but we lived hand to mouth from week to week , my Father was a bricklayer and with the nature of his work would struggle in the wintertime, but his pride would not allow him to seek any government benefits. I had an average education, very few clothes and my first holiday at aged 17 when I paid for it myself. That was the reality.
I realised that I was the only one responsible for me and my choices in life. I worked hard and educated myself and went on to run my own business. One of my sisters made bad choices and has spent her life living on benefits. Same home, same education, same start.
It's about culture and above all your choices.
For example Jamaica has over 3 million people with natural resources of Bauxite, Gypsum, limestone etc that are exported and the country just about survived.
Singapore has over 5 million people and no natural resources and has more millionaires per capita than almost every country.
Jamaica had 7 graduates go to Oxford university last year, Singapore had 182 undergraduates and 127 graduates. Its culture and attitude.
To address your point about Black people more likely to be stopped by the police.
In the USA in 2019, 91% of blacks were killed by blacks, and the per capita offence rate of blacks was 8 times higher than that of white. Culture and attitudes.

I call B.S., & who in the hell said we were supposed to be equal other than jealous or envious people? I'm white & answering these questions I would be in the back, yet I'm yelled at for having "white privilege". I couldn't care less. God placed me in the home & city & family of my youth. God chose my color. God gave me the intelligence & wherewithal to figure things out, work industriously, don't borrow or lend, don't steal, remember the Golden Rule, & "sticks & stones...."

in 2021, Privilege based on race is a lie, only rich privilege exist, yes there are singular people who are racist, causing one race or another to believe that this is one of todays biggest problems. but take 2 poor men of different race that get a charge rather it be felony or less they suffer the same consequence, if you don't think so, ask 2 people who have the same convictions you will see. Now take 2 men, again different race, who are rich or in most cases very well known and/or famous, in most cases they will receive a lesser charge if any at all, and will have higher chance for freedom.

As a fyi, I'm a 66 y/o white female who was born in poverty, raised by a single mom, had 7 siblings, & was emancipated at age 16. I would have been in the back of this group & proud of it. I have been married to the same guy for 46 yrs & have one child, a JAG officer in the USAF. We own our home w/ no debt, paid for with our own hard work, making double payments until we owned it outright. We paid for our university degrees one semester at a time. If we couldn't afford that semester, we'd work extra jobs until we could afford the next. I now have 2 masters degrees, a doctorate degree, & an R.N. license. Sweat, blood, fidelity to first principles, love for God (Jesus Christ), & never giving up! That's not "privilege", it's grace & love.
My 5 "white" brothers & me & my sister were all given "the talk" about respecting authority, saying "yes, sir" & "no ma'am". We were told not to talk back to a police officer & to do precisely what he/she told us to do, & that we would sort it all out later when she got to the station.
We were made fun of at school for wearing hand-me-downs, for sometimes not smelling good because we ran out of soap or couldn't wash our clothes. I was stabbed by a black girl in 1969 because I was a "white cracker", & this was during the race riots (similar to today).
I could go on & on. We each have our own stories to tell. The thing is, I think a lot of this evil, "white privilege" crap come from a place of envy, greed, & jealousy, 3 of the "7 deadly sins". God never created us to be "equal". We will not be equal in Heaven, either. Born equal, but after that we're on our own to make of our lives what we will, & to become the best person that we were meant to be, come hell or high water. It's called "life". Live it & stop the hate, bitterness, jealousy, vindictiveness, & victimhood.

You know what would be more interesting? Get a group of people from the same ethnicities and backgrounds and do this test. What if instead of comparing yourself to others, you could see the privileges you have more or less than people that look exactly like you. Then you would see how useless this comparison is.
