When spiders hit an obstacle they will always curve around, that's why hitting the slightest edge of the barrier hole pretty much grants you safety.
HOWEVER, there's a perfectly spider-sized gap between each hole that you use to jump across. If you happen to lead the spider in that specific direction they they can thread the needle and knock you out.
Happened to me 5-6 times during my 1.5 hr run, so I'd say about 10-15% chance.

If you get a multi layered island, dig holes in every spot on the cliffs. This will prevent tarantula spawning on the cliffs which means that they will only spawn on ground level.

This might be pretty wrong to you guys, but I’ve literally bought the ticket and fly off to different islands for 11 times now and still don’t get to Tarantula spider island. It’s really hard to do it but I’ve still got the patience 😬

Tarantula tip: you can walk up to them and they won't bat an eye AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT HOLDING A NET. The moment the net comes out they go on the defense. I like to walk up to them until I'm like one space away from them and then pull out the net. The tarantula barely gets a chance to react and it's already in my pocket

I ran into this problem when I tried to sneak up to it multiple times with a net, it ended up walking right into the river before I had a chance to catch it, I'll def try this next time! Thanks for the advice!
You don't need to make the spider jump while you sneak up, as that is a very dangerous timing game. It's much safer to play red-light-green-light with the spider as they make their intimidating stance. After staying still for a bit they back down, then you inch further with your readied net, and repeat the process until you are at catching distance. This is the way to avoid making them charge towards you.
And then of course there's the chase game. I love running into my U-shaped hole fort and them getting caught on the outside
i think they wait till they jump so then you know youre in catching distance because sometimes you can miscalculate how far away you are and they will bite you if you miss
I found you don't even have to ready your net till your close enough which speeds up the catch greatly

They're the worst...
I was able to fill up my inventory while ignoring them. They seem to max out at 2 on bamboo island at least, which allows for about 3 other things to be present on the map at any given time.
I swear they keep respawaning, I could only find two tarantulas in the span of an hour
that sound will never leave my head...
Seeing this whole process for only 8000 bells a bug makes me miss tortimer island even more

If you hear cricket sounds, it means a mole cricket has spawned underground. You need to dig holes to uncover it in order to scare it away.

soooo I learned the hard way you have to arrive AFTER dark, I went to an island in the daytime and it panning out to be a boring island led me to try this, but all that spawned for me was /daytime/ butterflies, so apparently the bugs that spawn are set on your arrival time and won't change :/

It can be easy to miss since they only say "7 pm to 4 am" without clarifying that they mean nighttime. 1:00
Conversely, I left a spider island I created on overnight and they were still spawning in the middle of the day today.

tip: the weeds prevent mole-crickets from spawning, so keep them as much as possible
Mole crickets don't affect spider spawning though. The underground and overground bugs have separate spawn "slots" so to speak. So just ignore the mole crickets, they don't affect this.

An easier way to catch Tarantulas is sneaking up on them, waiting for them to stop being in the defence and then move closer.
The way they were designed to be caught lol
That's not easy when there's multiple tarantulas that will attack
It's more foolproof but so, so slow if you're planning to catch so many lol, I lose my patience every time

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE MOLE CRICKETS
as they said only a few bugs can spawn at the same time and the maximum amount of mole crickets that can spawn ( at least from what I've seen) is two. So you can ignore them, preventing hours of frustration. I have learned from personal experience

The diamond pattern of holes is NOT completely effective. I’ve had the occasional tarantula break through so I just use the 8 hole square method just to be sure!
Another tip. You don't have to shovel the flowers. Just pick up petals and throw them on the beach. The stem doesn't affect bug spawning. Also, you don't have to cut down bamboo like shown in this video. Just got on a bamboo island and spawned tarantulas just fine. Sure, they affect visibility which can be annoying but if you don't have an axe and don't feel like chopping down all that bamboo, don't bother.
I was literally on bamboo island for like 30 minutes and not a single tarantula spawned >:(

Yeah that's what I was told in another video. Unfortunately there are so many regular crickets and mole crickets but I seriously only got one tarantula to spawn and I haven't even done nothing to the island yet but step off the dock a few feet and then got knocked on my butt LOL. I cleared the entire island picked all the flowers been running around like a chicken with my head cut off scaring hermit crabs and trying to catch the crickets so that something else was bomb but I can't see it because I'm blind and it's very hard to scare the crickets away so nothing has Spond yet Well no tarantulas anyways
I did this on a bamboo island like in the video but there were soooo many mole crickets I just left it got annoying lol

You guys CAN in fact do this if you have a villager on the island, they do not effect the spawn of the tarantulas

A better method to "fortify" yourself is to just dig 6 holes in a line. Run to get the attention of the tarantula, and run behind the holes.

I'm currently hunting tarantulas and created a cricket-proof island; collect weeds beforehand - preferably small ones so it doesn't interfere with visibility - and plant them everywhere, this will ensure no crickets can spawn on the island since they can't spawn under weeds.
Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about waterbugs except for catching them or waiting for them to naturally despawn after sometime, but with my strategy I know crickets can't take up slots for the bugs that appear on my island anymore (and I don't have to deal with their annoying sound either as a bonus)!
I made my own CRICKET ISLAND with this method HAHAHAHA

If you end up with a bamboo island, you don't actually need to uproot or even cut the bamboo for tarantulas to spawn.
There are no bugs currently that spawn on bamboo.
It's still worth at least cutting them down though for better visibility.

Tarantulas are not easy but it is quick way to make bells. I just use the glowing spot for quick bells. Place in 10k and I make the 10k back before the tree even fully grows. I’ll get 30k back along with the money rock. Within a week, counting the voucher ticket, you could get 500k bells or more. I prefer to play leisurely and I’ve been able to upgrade my house a couple times already. Easiest bug harvesting is the Man Face Stink bug. They appear so frequently, on flowers at night, that you can make 8k bells in less than 10 minutes. (Each one goes for 1k)
I saw my first tarantula on my island and I caught the demon easily, it scared the crap out of Becuase of how real they look omg

People on the Southern hemisphere cannot do so. Don't bother trying, a couple of friends and I have wasted enough time on it

Even with the underground crickets I’m able to do this. I just remove everything and put it on the beach, then run around the island/rocks scaring away whatever other bug spawns above and ignore the cricket. Got my tarantulas, does take a while though so patience is key lol

I had it work just fine today
My catching tip: Go to tarantula, with max speed ( but not sprinting with button ) and when tarantula jumps after seeing you, you just press button to catch. Press it when you see them jumping. It works for me.
But how about mole cricket, they spawn underground and will affect bug spawn if not clear out

The tarantulas can't go through straight rows of holes, I've seen someone on twitter fill about a quarter of the island with holes with only one space to jump in. It's a tarantula-proof way of not fainting.
If you get a multiple tier island, can you use the cliff permit to break away the cliffs?

What do you do if only damselflies spawn? I did all that, removed all trees, flowers and rock, and for the next 20 minutes or more it was just damselflies.
You can place fences and such on the rocks to keep wharf roaches from spawning too

Another tip is to dig the upper levels full of holes so no ground bugs can spawn there

yes eventually you'll be able to move houses and other buildings on your island but it costs 50k bells to do it. 30k bells if you're moving your own house

Do mole crickets affect the tarantulas fron spawning? Also ive read some comments saying weeds can prevent mole crickets that are underground, does that mean you just have to plant weeds from where the sound is comming from? And dont weeds stop tarantulas from spawning?

bug also do not spawn on holes, so you can dig an area full of holes to limit the land that the mobs can spawn on, so you don't have to run around aimlessly
Running around the island while equipping a net on hand greatly increases the chances of being attacked as you can't be sure if its nearby. That's why after every capture I always make sure to put away my net and carry on scaring away other bugs.

here hope this helps but you don't have to dig holes if you want to capture one . Tarantulas will rise up like they do in real life. this is there aggressive stance. If you hold the use button you will ready the net now walk toward the spider when it is in a non aggressive position. now its just a game of Red light, Green light till you can get your net close to capture it.
You can also trap one tarantula, which is already chasing you.
Dig a 'G' and make sure you leave a corner on the bottom left for you to easily jump out of. Proceed to go to the right and up so the spider can't escape, then close off possible escape routes. Only one spider can chase you at a time, so every other spider which is spawning on the island can be farmed without fear of being attacked!
It took me a few tries, but when it worked, big money was made

your in the southern hemisphere or chose it at the beginning. it doesn't work too well as you get one scorpion (thats what is in season in the southern hemisphere) about every 10 mins. but crickets can't spawn if it raining, so if you go to an island tour and its raining follow these steps and it should work
Ignore the crickets; scare away the rest.
Note: sometimes they only show up during april-november i did this in febuary and didnt find a thing

Okay, so I realized the hard way that the time you go on the island will stay the same critter wise. For example, I go to an island at 6:40 and tarantulas don't spawn, when it's 7:15, tarantulas still don't spawn because You went on an island, Its 6:40 so it stays at 6:40. This might not be true but I wanna state my case if someone does the same thing as me.
And I found that out when I had stayed on one island for about 40 minutes to figure that out

Such a pain, did this with the same island type, no tarantulas or scorpions, just crickets and tiger beetles, I have more spawning at my island than the mystery islands..
You need to do it from 7pm to 4am.

if you leave the weeds on the islands it helps prevent the mole crickets from appearing so all youu have to do is run around and scare the other bugs away

butterflies or moths, butterflies will usually only spawn during the day. You need to make to do this AFTER 7:00 pm. I hope this helped

I had done this last night and had a lot of irritation with bugs spawning on the flowers and trees that had been moved to the beach, so I recommend bringing a garbage bin with you. I had originally figured that bins were just decorative, but if you interact with them you can actually throw stuff away in them.

The shape I use is a 4 by 4 but leave on of the sides is open so when you get chase go around the trap and soon the spider would get trap on one of the opposite sides from you and you able to get it bc their trap isn't spider proof bc I killed me lots of times

I still had mole crickets but I dug random holes where the bamboo was and other areas. I also had 3 of those diamond spots to protect myself (btw the diamond hole doesn't work all the time so I added two extra holes opposite each other so it's harder for the tarantula to come though) but I didn't have any problems

Why is everyone trying to cheese Animal Crossing? This is a game meant to be played over years. You all are going to cheese it and be bored in a week while I'm still playing a year or 2 from now!
I agree on the fact that the game gets boring by cheating. However I don't see this as a mayor cheese. It requires a lot of work and resources to do, sometimes up to 1.5 hours to get your inventory full. I find it a fun way to complete my bridges and inclines in a day. Ofcourse this should't be exploited to the max and only be done once in a couple of days. But the overall process is a lot of fun!

they didn't patch this, they patched a money duplication glitch. Which is completely different
Let me show you how:
1: Bring your Net,Axe,Pole and Leather because you dont know what island they take you there
2:Start clean up whole island
-Chop all tree and remove stumps
_Pick all flowers(just pick not dig)
_Eat fruit and remove all rocks
_Dump all resources on beach
Option:remove all grass if you want
3: Clear island of all bugs (jusst walk or normal run dont dash because that fucker can spawn any time and attack you)
4:Patient,keep clean all bugs on island until the spider spawn they can spawn one or 2 or even 5 at a same time
(My englissh is bad but i hope this can help)
I forgot one thing they only spawn at night about 7:pm and stop at 4:am
