i have never cared to have a dreamy villager because villager hunting it way too much, all i try to do is get villagers that are remotely not ugly because my island always seems to autofill the ugliest villagers 😭

SAME! lol i got stuck with knox for so long and while hes not the ugliest, i hated him so much that i put barbed wire around his home so he couldnt leave and built a sign that said get out. but then cherry replaced him so it was fine in the end

I remember not too long ago, I was trying to get some cool villagers, so I used something called “The Campsite Method” which includes time traveling, I did it and once I got a villager at the campsite, I was really hoping I’d get a cool villager, and when I walked in… there he was, the legend himself, Raymond.

Ever since my sister and I bought ACNH we tried to get Tangy on our island. She's absolutely my favourite villager so I searched for her every chance I got. But as months went on, our island filled up by villagers we didn't even want, so I couldn't really search for her. I eventually caved in and bought Amiibo coins from Etsy (I could choose the villagers I wanted and it would be easier to carry them around). Three days after the Amiibo coins arrived, Tangy agreed to move in. Wish I could've found her myself, but I'm just glad she's on our island now lol

Luckily you can go to hacked islands with villagers moving out that refill automatically

If we count New Leaf, the rarest villagers are Holden and Filly since they were only obtainable in Japan for a limited time, and weren't able to be brought to your town. So technically the only way you can get them now, even in Japan, is through save editing.
This makes me proud to have Raymond, Ankha, Tangy, Punchy, Mitzi, Merry and Tom, all cats. I’ve been playing since the beginning!

I’m messed up about my favorite… Mitzi is not the worst, but I had her in my first OG island back on GC and love her because back in the day villagers were default kind of assholes and she was the first one to be nice to me.
I have the cat odds against me and I’ve never even seen her at the 400+ nook tickets islands much less campsite.
I know people are skipping her on islands all the time and the thought drives me crazy. 😔
I have judy on my island too. I think shes the only really popular villager I have rn, but I had Coco and Kiki for a time.
I got confused about Marshall being rare because I've had him in 3/4 of my islands! He was once the first villager you get on the campsite and twice one of the first few villagers that I found from the mystery islands! I really thought he was just very common one to find at the beginning!

So a few months ago I got Rosie at my campsite and I was super sad because she was one of my top villagers to get and my island was full. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago I found out she actually could've replaced one of my current villagers if I hackled and played games with her long enough.
It still haunts me to this day and I can only hope Rosie comes back to me.
wow that sucks, best of luck on that, i keep hoping my villagers will want to leave at some point but every time they have a thought bubble its cause they want to visit my house or they bought two of the same island
Rosie is my fave too! I love all the cats but Rosie is my overall fave. I have kiki and bob. Might just cave and buy her amiibo card.

The rarest villager are the octopus but to get the octopus you want isn’t rsre
i didnt notice that you always start with a sisterly and a jock, thats really interesting! also explains how i managed to get my favorite as one of my starters this time around, since shes sisterly type lol
I spent 3 hours and 20 minutes resetting my game to get Reneigh as my starting villager. She came with Biff. Whitney has always been one of my favourite villagers, and I literally squealed when she showed up as a camper. I got Marshal while hunting, and Raymond and Sasha via amiibo card.
I have a list of villagers that I like aesthetically but my absolute dreamy villager is Diana! She just looks and feels so royal and regal, I can’t wait to access terraform and more custom options to change my island for her!!

I recently found him, and I actually screamed, because he was my first "rare" villager
I actually got two of my dreamies through random move-ins. Stitches was my first move-in and I got Genji after someone move out after looking for him on mystery islands.
I just got Wendy like 2 months ago and I was hunting her ever since the game came out, so many nook miles were used. You can imagine after 3 years how hype I was to see her.
i want ankha, it’s not because of yk.. it would just be so cool to have a egyptian cat as a villager!
I had her in my first village on GC in the first game the year it came out (I still have that GC memory card I visit every once and a while) but haven’t seen her in any game since, now I never hunted for villagers so it’s not saying much, but it’s kinda crazy looking back when I was a teenager playing AC/wind waker and had one of the most famous characters ever.

I went villager hunting yesterday bc one of them moved out and i had like 400 tickets. I was mainly searching for tangy or marshall because i already had my favorite villager (bob). On the 6th freaking ticket i got raymond and i was so happy.

WOW the timing of this video, Lopez moved out recently and Judy moved in outta nowhere to replace him, I was so happy and I didn't even know she was popular/kinda rare (just loved how dang cute she is)
The only cat villager I wanted for my island was Ankha. Went on a villager hunt with no expectations, found her on my third ticket. Guess luck was on my side, ngl I almost cried
I'm currently looking for a villager to bring to my island, and I apparently will have a 0.18% chance of getting Maple (She is my favorite) I wonder who I'll leave with... I had also gotten Raymond in my campsite recently

I like that you not only told us what the rare villagers are, but you went into the "why" and "how" too.
Technically all of them are rare, but more villagers of a specific personality you don’t have on the island will show up more often then ones you already have
This only applies for the Campsite and autofilling, not Nook Miles Tickets
im not sure if judy is even considered rare but alot of people want her.
i sold her to nookazon for a 100 nmts and LITERALLY on my first ticket i got judy again.
i like her but she doesnt match my theme. i actually took her again for purely invesment and got another 70 nmts. so in total from judy i got 169 tickets (excluded from taking her)

There’s actually one piece of information about the move-in queue,
If you have friends/other players friended on animal crossing and they move a villager out, that villager they moved out went onto the top or near the top on YOUR queue. So you could use that to your advantage or a disadvantage depending on whether they moved out a good or bad villager in your opinion!
I got my dreamy naturally, and had no idea my odds were the worst in the game. I love you Lolly!!!
I ended up getting 4 of my dream villlagers naturally through random move-ins, campsites, and a couple nook mile tickets (Papi, Ankha, Blaire). Recently got Fauna from another person's island, and just moved in Shino, Maple, and Beau. All I'm looking for now is Sherb, Lolly, and Olivia :)

the first compulsory campsite villager is always smug so the villager pool for getting Raymond then is a lot smaller
I remember how crazy people went to get Raymond during the early days of New Horizons. I saw several FB Marketplace listings selling him anywhere between $5-$200 but FB removed them as they weren't physical items. Now his Amiibo card is out and is easy to get him.
i didnt realize how lucky i was to get both zucker and marina while dreamy hunting😭 they are both now on my island and marshal was my first campsite villager and also my most wanted dreamy :D
I tried doing an island hunt for Merengue a while back, but I never found her, and I came across Fauna while looking for her, and was pretty happy to bring her back to my island :)

My mom and brother's island have Merengue. Very nice villager, and was happy to tell them that she's wanted a lot. Also happy to know that they had Audie.
Off topic, but one of my all time faves is katt, I started out with her and sprocket, and didn’t really like her at first. But soon, she really started to grow on me. She was always in such a good mood, and so nice to me! She is a forever villager in my town, no matter what.

I spent an entire year looking for Raymond, on 2 different switches. One of my islands I wanted solely pink villagers and the other one was villagers I wanted. Needless to say he appeared on my pink island hunt and I think it's funny how he's basically the only guy (besides Dom since I started with him) that lives in a town full of female pink villagers 🤣 this was before his amiibo card was released so I couldn't just buy his card. He was the only reason I kept coming back to NH and didn't drop off of it after awhile
I remember in my first ACNH island the first villager I had to get to move to my island was Sherb. Later I found out that he is one of the new favorites and I was so happy bc he is so cute😭 every time I made a new island I got him very early when going hunting. But I guess the only “rare” one I have on my island is Marshal and I had him on every island of mine every time I started new.

I found Lolly so adorable when I was playing NL didn't knew she could be counted as "rare", I just wished that she'd move to my island so I can have her back. I ended up with some grey office cat.
I remember when everyone was going crazy for Marshall and Raymond and I just happened to get Marshall as a villager while still putting down villager houses a few days into having the game.
Wow, just crazy! I went villager hunting just for fun because I had opened a plot and I found Raymond on my second nook flight. 🤩 I also found a penguin (Aurora) and a frog ( Prince) the first week of playing the game. I feel so lucky.🥰

Marshal was my first visitor at the campsite and he moved in pretty quickly. I know he’s supposed to be smug, but damn do I love him. He is never allowed to leave, lol

I got Judy as my second camper and at that time I didn't know she was so popular/rare in the community, I just thought "oh she's very cute I'm going to keep her!" Guess I was very very lucky! She's one of my favorite villagers now
I got Reneé and then Cody as my starter villagers and then the first 3 times I went to visit mystery islands, I met Zucker, Marina, and Pinky and immediately invited them to my island. I later learned that both Zucker and Marina were some of the most sought-after villagers, haha. I guess i lucked out
I've had the luckiest run with villagers on my current island. First villager I ever found on a nook miles tour was Rosie. I've haven't done a hunt longer than 4 tickets and I have Rosie, Stitches, Judy, Molly, Julian, Gayle and Vivian. There were some rare popular villagers I left behind just bc I didn't want them, idk what's going on this time around
Fun fact: raymond decided to randomly join my island after julian moved and the fact is that I was actually looking for raymond and I already have tangy and bob
I usually let the autofill do it's thing and it gave me 2 more penguins even though I already have Aurora. On the 6th time I relied on autofill, it gave me Cookie the pink dog! Then when Vic (the Viking Bull) left, I started villager hunter on my 3rd island I found Marina the pink Octopus! I had Merengue as a camper once but I didn't know any better then so I let her slip away. :(

The day before I restarted my island my empty plot said raymond was going to move in. a week ago on my villager hunting for cookie i found raymond twice. ( I ended up with bones ) too bad he doesn't match my themes 🤷
When one of my villagers moved away, Raymond just showed up on my main island. It was a long time ago, so I can't remember if he showed up in the tent or if he just moved in on his own. I love cats, so I just had him stay. I didn't even realize he was a rare character for the longest time. 😅
I recently restarted my island. I’ve never had good villager hunting luck until now. I got Shino on my 18th ticket, Molly on my 2nd, Sasha on my 3rd, Rosie on like my 15th, and i’ve gotten villagers like Fauna as auto fills.
I remember making a list of villagers I wanted and I put raymond at the bottom of the list because I thought there was no chance of me getting him. A few days later he was visiting my campsite.

i didnt go into acnh wanting certain villagers but ended up seeing filbert (squirrel) and rosie (cat) who happen to be some of my favorites from both species, lolly (cat) was also just randomly in my move in que and i feel very happy with the villagers who moved in, my starting 2 where louie (gorilla) and sylvia (kangaroo) they weren't my super favorite but louie definately grew on me
Ankha turned up in my campsite the other day but I didn’t invite her because I find her creepy. I had no idea she was rare or popular 😬 The visitor queue thing is also really interesting to me because I’m a new player, I have no online play or friends, but I keep getting told I’ve been extremely lucky with my move in and campsite villagers so far.
My starters were Pashmina and Hamlet (not what I would have chosen but they grew on me.) then my three who moved in automatically were Audie, Midge, and Lucha (who is one of my favorites!) My first campsite animal was Bob, followed by Sylvana, then Marlo, Tank (another one of my top 10), and lastly Ankha. I’m really crossing my fingers for Antonio or Eugene next but I don’t know many animals so I’m happy to explore 😊 Sorry if my English is bad

I've been super lucky on my hunts and have Marshal ,Raymond, Coco, Stitches, Lucky, Merengue, and Beau with Cephalabot and Shino as my new additions!

I used to play Animal Crossing New Leaf. I don't remember all of the villagers I had, but I do remember these:
Rowan (tiger), Clay (hamster), Hopper (penguin), Cherry (dog), Ankha (cat), Chrissy (rabbit) and Canberra (koala). Canberra actually kinda moved out, but hung out in the upper part of the map where Timmy+Tommy's store was.
I didn’t realize I’ve had so many rare ones in my various playthroughs. My most recent started a week ago and I was given a rhino and a squirrel to start. I’ve had cats and horses in my last run

Raymond made himself at home in my last villager spot and I got extremely lucky! I just celebrated his birthday today on my island.
I got so lucky. My first villager was Muffy, the one I wanted, without me having to reset. And both Marina and Zucker moved in on their own before I knew about the mystery island trick.
I got Muffy and Sterling as my first neighbors.
My newest island is wildly dope. I brought over Marshall from an old island, he was a mystery island find, and the randoms were Ione, Dom, and Merengue. Blew my mind.
I have Lolly and Sylvana, I found both in my villager hunts, I love them VERY much (but my fav will always be Bones)
The fact that the first villager I found was Marshal shocks me to no end

I just started playing 2 weeks ago, with my only experience being Muffy from Happy Home Designer on my 3DS. I was so excited when Muffy was my first villager. Now that I see the odds, I'm even more thankful luck was on my side.
I remember everyone was nuts to get Raymond, and suddenly he came to one of my free houses because I forgot to go hunt. That day I felt really lucky. 😂

The past three times I've had an open plot, I've tried to get Skye the wolf. First time, I ran into Marina on a deserted island and had her move in since she's popular. Second time, it was taking too long for me to find Skye, so Judy moved in and she happens to be one of the hardest villagers to get. Third time, I found Marshall on an island. I still do not have Skye.
If we’re talking from a standpoint where amiibo cards don’t come into play, any specific villager from a species with the most characters.

I was lucky. I found Zucker on my first mystery island, he’s pretty rare, but like you said, there are higher chances of getting a specific octopus.
With amiibo cards, Raymond is the hardest cat to get. The other cats have amiibos, he doesn’t, so getting him is entirely luck based.. if you aren’t gonna buy your way out.
I only have Lolly’s amiibo card. If I wanted any other cat (I want 3 more, Purrl, Kiki, and Raymond, they all look like cats i’ve had) It would be entirely luck based.
I would have to rely on autofills, campsite, and mystery islands.
I don’t use Nookazon to often, and I’m broke, so I can’t buy any.
It’s not a super hard concept once you get a little bit experienced.
But I’m still dumb so I don’t go on hunts..
The rarest has to be Blanca.

I got marshall very early as a campsite villager and my friend freaked out about it. I just kept him because i thought he was cute and i didnt have a squirrel yet. I didnt know, he was popular lol
I actually feel pretty greatful hearing my 2 bunny villagers are pretty rare. I also just got Marina to move in too!
The villager im searching for is Anabelle the anteater. I know its odd, but Anabelle was my favourite villager in ACNL, so it would be nice to see her again.
In New Leaf my first villagers were Melba, Eugene, Eric, Poncho and Bianca. And also Frita who was the first villager to move in after I opened the town. I was hoping that when I moved on to New Horizons I might get to start with some of them on my island again but I think the chance of that is very slim now lol
Update: I bought New Horizons on Christmas Eve, my first two villagers were Coach and Hazel, sure didn’t expect those two to be the first 😅

When I was at my friends island, she kicked out Poncho. The next day, the villager I got at my campsite was Poncho. I love Poncho so much 😂
I’m still watching so I’m not sure if this will be mentioned later but you don’t actually have to hoard one species type or get rid of lots of villagers if you’re trying to get one specific villager of a specific species. The same applies for keeping all of the options in a species to remove that species from the total number you could get. You won’t get the same villager again once you’ve already had them right? That was a mechanic in older games so I assume it’s the same here.
You can just cycle out or replace one villager/plot until you find the one you want. For example if you want a specific dog, you won’t get a repeat of a dog that already moved out so you just keep cycling through them until you find your desired one

Somehow I’ve fallen in love with every single villager I’ve found so far, I guess I’m not very good at being judgmental. My favourite though is rocket, the tracksuit gorilla. She’s awesome and you can’t change my mind
