I really enjoyed this video. I think that Buckshot Teardrop is one of your favorite Rough Riders. It shows up in a lot of videos and I wouldn’t mind having one too. Spear point blade knives make a good looking knife. The little Doctors knife that gave you a kiss; I couldn’t help laughing about. No shame of that happening once in a while. Band aids are required if you fool with knives.🍀🥔🔪✨🚑

Enjoyed your video Paddy, just picked up an old Imperial prov, $20.00 Aud.( had one similar as a boy in the late 1960's) not the same as the one I lost back then, this one has a glass cutter ! Instead of a second blade, also liked your statement and the End of your video, Also a Very beautiful young Arbourist told me once, "Some Cutting tools require a Blood sacrifice "

I usually carry a Trapper. I use the Spey blade for food (cutting fruit or sandwiches, etc.) and the clip point blade as a utility knife (opening boxes, sharpening pencils, etc.).

Nice affordable traditional knives, I have seen a lot of Marbles traditional folding knives that look nice on ebay.

This is a good summary of some traditional patterns and what is available in the budget category. I am 100% a traditional guy and at the risk of bringing down flames on my head I'll say that, except for tradesmen, farmers, military, and outdoorsmen types who might really need them, people who carry larger modern flippers and tacticals probably never outgrew playing ninja when they were kids! (That's intended as a joke folks!)

I think the canoe is the best first knife. Its more slimline for the pocket, more anesthetic and more comfortable than many other patterns.

This made me think about my attitude towards razors as opposed to knives. I've always seen knives as tools and acquired them to use as such, and whilst they can also be objects of desire that's just a bonus. Accordingly, the cheapest item which will last and do the job is just fine by me, and Rough Rider et al have done an excellent job catering for that market. Razors on the other hand are absolutely luxury items, and I've been much more extravagant on that front. Yes please to something on quill knives, by the way.

I have never looked into the budget range of knives, thinking they were not much good as mostly made in China. I have focused my collection on USA, German, UK and some Spanish blades since the early 80's. I now have a Rough Ryder and a Ruike in my collection and they are very good value for the price. Thanks to your videos I am now finding interest in the budget range of knives with particular interest in Brother knives of which I think are excellent. Take care, all the best mate.

@Sam Robert I only have one RR and I've carried and used it for a couple of weeks and so far it's been OK. I have looked into the Brother knives and they have some great reviews. How many Chinese made knives have you carried and used, what were they like, what are some of the things to watch out for?

Really accessible and informative video for those dabbling in the traditional end of the pool. I wish I had been more aware of the level of value and quality available at the budget end of the spectrum when my interest was rekindled.
I only own two RR's(both carbon steel)and both are more than acceptible in fit, finish, edge holding and walk and talk. Great video Paddy!

I would love to own a GEC one day I don't like how much of a hassle they are to get hold of so I tend to stay away from them so I stick to case, boker and victorinox when it comes to traditional knives .... I also feel with traditional knives are less scarey to take out of your pocket and use here in the UK with our silly knife laws and how scared people are with knives

Great Eastern cutlery has really become a joke the only way you can get one is by stalking their production schedule or paying four times the price for one on eBay because somehow people think that just because they touched it means it's worth more money pretty much what's happening with great eastern cutlery knives is exactly what happened with the Xbox series x people are just buying them up only to resell them for four times the price on eBay

I’ve quite a few Rough Rider /Marbles etc. Chinese made traditionals and I love them just as much as my expensive knives. They let me collect the odd and unusual without breaking the bank. And some of them, such as the Grandaddy Barlow, 5” Toothpick, Cotton Samplers, Cub lock-backs, brass Cowboy , the Sous-Chef etc. are just great fun! And then their Wharncliffe bladed micarta work knife is just a really good knife!!
Or you could just collect RR sodbusters - large, small, Slipjoint, liner-lock, back-lock, bone, delrin, aluminium etc.!

Very interesting - though I have liked knives for years I don't know too much about the technicalities & styles.
I echo your comments about the implications of today's 20th anniversary. Thank you.

If I said it once I'll say it again you have a great collection and you are wealth of information thanks again always. I didn't know a doctor's knife was so dangerous but I digress. See I knew you put your all into your vids, blood, sweat and tears! Take care Paddy thanks always!! See a RRR is just as sharp as an GEC

Great video Paddy! Lot of nice knives shown today. I love the history of traditional patterns as much as collecting and using them. Again, thanks for a great video on some nice knives. I have 3 of those Queen knives and they are really nice and very usable. Take care Paddy. And I will never Forget!

Firstly a prayer and a big thank you to the heroes who keep us safe 🙏🙏🙏🙏. Great video Paddy. I have most of these knives but the best for me is the little peanut you showed, it is my main knife for fine detail when I’m whittling as it can be sharpened to a razor. I’ve just ordered the RRR Whittler after watching EagleEyes review. Keep safe brother 😎🐸👍.

An interesting video. There are many great slip joints at reasonable prices. Mind you I have been punting in the "wraffles" to try and win me a gourmet model.
It makes sense to focus on traditional knives in the UK as you can actually carry them. I live in Spain where the laws aren't so fussy. But it's also true that most Spaniards don't carry knives and I need to be careful. The "sheeple" are entitled to their opinions too, hence I tend carry smaller blades.
Whilst I have and carry modern locking knives , I agree that a Cívivi (for example) has little or no personality.
My world is from the cheap to 100 euro level. My last purchase is a RR small toothpick which I am looking forward to.
I was trading my Manix2 s110v recently but the package got lost in the post. Goddamn Spanish postal service and I hadn't registered it. More fool me.

I love traditional knives they are all you need, if they are good enough for old timers their good enough for me. Rough rider's are brilliant along with A Wright, Otter messer, Buck, Victorinox, opinel and GEC. Case sucks their quality is just shit for what you pay. 👍

You gotta be careful with those Rough Riders . I've been bit good a couple times and both times by a Rough Rider and I'll tell ya , every one of my Rough Riders came far sharper than any Anerican made traditional I own . They know how to put an edge on that blade over there in China that's for sure .
You should put a band aid on that finger Paddy .

Your thoughts on 9/11 and its aftermath. Second that. I am disappointed ,nevertheless, that Taliban was given a chance to go back to power. I believe it wasn’t a wise move but days will tell.
